Batch Process increases file size from 230kb - 5044kb

I'm currently using Acrobat 7 Professional.
I want to use the "Batch" process to re-convert pdf documents that were watermarked using the batch process. We're talking 1000+ documents.
The reason we need to re-convert them is because the watermarked documents are taking more than 4min/page to print, if it prints at all.
I've manually re-converted a few of the documents using "print to pdf", kept the file size at 230kb and with no printing issues.
However, since we have 1000s of these documents to do, most with multiple pages, this would be a very time consuming project.
I've "Batched" "print to pdf" and it also takes care of our printing issues, however, the file size has jumped to 5044kb. Having literally thousands of files to do - this is an issue on our file server.
I've done multiple tests with adjusting the pdf settings in the batch process... some work (and again the file size is large) - some don't allow for printing or slow it way down again.
I understand that it's a "layer" or "transparency" thing that's slowing the printing process and when I mess with it in the batch process, it takes care of the printing issues but not the file size.
Can someone help me please??? I've been working on this for a couple days now and I'm at my limits.
How can I batch process that will flatten layers but give me a manageable file size?
Your help would be GREATLY appreciated - Michelle

I don't know if it can help here, but don't I recall that wayyyy back in Photoshop 7.0 the last File - Save As you have executed sets the JPEG quality for batch File - Save As commands?  I am not sure when the "Override Action Save-As Commands" became functional, but try this:
1.  Uncheck "Override Action Save-As Commands".
2.  Remove the "File - Save As" step you have recorded in your action.  The action should NOT save the file.
3.  Save any old JPEG file at the quality level you prefer, just to set the "memory" of the quality level.
4.  Run the File - Automate - Batch, specifying input and output folders there.
I'll bet it will work.

  • Reduce File Size and Optimise PDF both increase file size

    Hi All
I have exported a pdf (our college mag) at smallest file size from Indesign CS4 for online use. The problem is the resultant file size is a little under 19Mb. Using both or either Reduce File Size or Optimise functions simply result in an increase to 22Mb. The document is packed with images however I would have thought one or both of these processes would have helped reduce the file size to a more manageable download file size.
A pdf is also produced to go to print so simply compressing all images prior to imcuding them in Indesign is not a preferable option - this would mean creating two separate Indesign documents, something which I would rather avoid if possible.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as always.
The file reside here if anyone cares to take a look http://www.ayrcoll.ac.uk/index.php?name=UpDownload&req=viewdownload&cid=11&orderby=dateD  It's the latest release (September 09)
    Thanks
    Colin

You might want to do an audit of the PDF (button in PDF Optimizer) and try to figure out what the various parts are. It shows 58% is content streams (sorry, but I am not sure what that is), 26% is overhead, and only 12.7% is graphics. Since you are not storing bookmarks and such, you might want to try going back to ID and printing to the Adobe PDF printer for a comparison. It may be one technique is more efficient than the other.
When I used the optimizer, the file did get larger. When I used Reduce File Size, it got slightly smaller. The key may be in figuring out what the various parts are from the audit. You might try copying one page of ID to a new document and play with various versions - different fonts (all were embedded and that is probably best), variations on graphics, etc. That is all I can suggest since I would simply be playing with different ways to produce the document and looking at what is causing the bloat. When the Images are only 12.7% and the fonts less than 1%, there is something going on to produce the size, and those 2 are typically the killers. I would mention tags that tend to bloat, but you do not have any (normally used for assessibility).
You might want to try some of the preflight checks to find issues. I did the transparency check and got 170 instances in 22 pages. Flattening the page may help. There were some pages that seemed to be very bad. However, I did not get a big file size reduction. I did not get a lot of improvement by printing to a new PDF either. Certain pages seem to be part of the bloat problem. The print took a long time around pages 11 and 22.
One troubleshooting technique would be extract pages to separate files and look at the details of each page to see what is causing the issue.
    Need to go. Good luck.

  • Help!..CS4 IS INCREASING FILE SIZES.

    Hi all
Wondered if anyone has had a problem with increased files sizes when opening a document up in Photoshop? Anything i open up is increased by two thirds  in file size and i've no idea why ( e.g..8MB doc opens as 24MB doc)
What is even more strange is that it won't let me reduce a  file size to anything under 1MB.
Has anyone ever come across this problem?...would appreciate any help.
    Thanks
    Bri

    Hey Noel
    Fair Play.
    This is what is happening.
I’ve got a standard JPEG file that viewed in Explorer and Bridge reads as a 2.70MB (2838,796 bytes) file. Pixel dimensions 797x1000. Document size  6.75 x 8.47cm .Res 300 PPI.
When I open it in CS4 it reads 2.28MB. (This is the first thing I don’t understand)
Either way my simple( so I thought ) objective is to decrease the file size.
In the image size box I have re-set the resolution to 72ppi as I just need to post the image on a Website. My before and after calculations in the image Panel reads (was 2.28MB...now 134.3k)
Great! .this is what I want, However..... when I ‘save as’ and the JPEG compression box appears it has suddenly increased the file to 1.8MB Large file...and only allows me to reduce it to 1.7MB small file.
Admittedly this is not my area of expertise....I’m doing something wrong so any pointers would be much appreciated.

  • Type on a path that gradually increases in size from left to right

I need to create type on a path where the characters gradually increase in size from left to right. I know that I can manually change the size of each character, but does anyone know of an easier way to do this -- possibly with a script?

  • Increase File Size

After converting CR2 Raw files to Jpeg the size of the files is too small. How if possible Can one increase file size in Elements 9? Thanks

Why on earth do you want to have "larger" files?
JPG uses compression to reduce the size of the resulting files.  If you're concerned about the picture quality because of JPG's lossy compression method, simply set the JPG "Quality" setting to its maximum.

  • Reducing file size in batch processes (multiple files)

I am now using a canon XTi 10.5 megapixel camera. I'm loving it, taking tons and pics, and see my memory on my computer shrinking rapidly. I'm not too worried about hard drive space as I can simply buy another hard drive. Where I'm running into problems is on my iPod. I have an 80gb video iPod. It is suddenly full, Almost 1/2 with audio, 1/2 with photos. I'm realizing that I need take the 5-7 megabyte files each (photos) in iPhoto and reduce them down a bit in dimensions and/or jpeg compression.
I use photoshop elements and am familiar with the multiple files option. I've used that a bit, nice feature.
    Heres my question:
I know iPhoto is sensitive to manipulation of photos/changes if the changes aren't done through its interface. How can I go about taking the original pics for a number of events (talking about perhaps 2000 pics right now) and batch process them down in size a bit without weirding out iPhoto?
Does iPhoto have an option to batch change files in such a fashion? Is it as simple as finding the originals in the finder and simpy reducing them in size and making iPhoto update its thumbnails?
and how do I make iPhoto update its thumbnails, I forget...
    Thanks

If you just want displayable image files on the iPod and not the full sized files then a very good solution, IMO, is to export those photos you want on the iPod to a folder on the Desktop. Then use Resize! to batch change the pixel dimension and the jpg compression level of the files. For my iPod Nano I use 640 x 480 and have Resize! compress them to medium. That gives me files in the 100 KB size range. If you want a smaller file just increase the compressions level a bit. Resize! automatically creates a new folder for the resized images so you can try different levels on the same folder. You can get a lot of photos on your iPod at that size. I then put that folder of resized files in my Pictures folder and have iTunes use it instead of using iPhoto.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Batch file size reduction is increasing file size

CS3 on G5 dual. I am prepping images from my clients catalog for the web. Large image and thumbs. I batch converted the large images for web and have a bunch of images at roughly 24k-56K. I duped the folder, renamed to add a T to end of file name to signify thumbnails. I have an action to reduce file size 50% which is about what I want. I ran a few test files and all 6 of them blew up to 96K-124K even though the file is half the size (5x8 to 2.5x4) while remaining 72 dpi.
Client *thinks* the hosting software will generate thumbs for images from the larger images but isn't sure and is requesting I supply thumbs just in case.

The client has a shopping cart and I would have assumed giving her one size (5x8) which strikes me as overly large but she specified that size (or the nearest proportional equivalent) would be sufficient and the database for the web store would generate thumbs on the fly but the support at the hosting company is abysmal and she doesn't want to pay me to spend a few hours figuring this out.
I don't know what SFW is. Here's a screen shot of my settings for 50%:

I posted this over in the Lounge as I didn't get a reply here. Here's a link that shows my action in a QT movie. Weirdly enough, I accidentally deleted my save for web action and can no longer batch export a folder to web jpegs:

  • Increased file size results when migrating from RH6 to RH7

    Hi experts,
Not sure where to post this message, so I appologize for
repeating myself. I am a Frame Expert, but a RoboHelp Novice. I
created a new help project in RH7, based on an old one in RH6. It

Im sure that most of these file extensions were created in
the previous version and that the file name itself (which I didn't
list) is what is new, but before I tell this to the engineer I want
    to be sure.
Size is an issue because this software is being deployed from
a flash card. the extra 10MB in space could be considered a blocker
    and stop our development.
    Any help is great!
    Laura

Those are files from the source. Your application only needs
the files in the ouput. By default, these will be in a subfolder
    below !SSL!
Sometimes people ask if all the output files are required.
The stock answer is only if you want the help to work. :-)
Do note though, you only need to deliver whatever is in the
    output you generate.

  • Batch Process: Add Alpha Mask From File

I did a search for this, but couldn't find anything.  If there is something, please feel free to send me in that direction.
I use Photoshop a lot for my 3D work.  Usually, when I render an image sequence out, I have the mask saved in the alpha channel.  Unfortunately, ZBrush doesn't allow me to do that, and instead saves the mask out as a separate image.  I need to add the alpha mask to the color plate file.  Is there any way to do this with batch processing?

Thank you for your response.  I guess for now, I'll just add the masks by hand, since I don't know scripting at all.
It would be worth asking in the Scripting forum. There may be something available, in which case you just copy the file into the appropriate folder in PS and it's there on the menu to use.

  • Log Configurator - Increase log file size from 10 mb to 20 mb

    Hi All,
We have implemented custom logging in our implementation using custom Log Destinations and Locations.
The log destination (inside log configurator service) we were using earlier had size of 10 mb for each file and the file count was 5.
Now, as the log files are getting archived very soon we changed the log file size to 20 mb and file count as 5.
After restarting server, the log viewer in NWA and within Visual Admin does not show updated logs. We have monitored this for sometime now so that new logs are written to the log files still the situation is same.
Strangely, logs are getting updated at OS level in the log files but the entries are nto shown on Log Viewer in NWA or Visual Admin.
Are there any restrictions on the log file size or any other parameter needs to be changed to make this work ?
Looking forward for your inputs and suggestions.

  • Batch Process Change Canvas Size Buggy

I have 300+ products shots that need to go up to our website.
Using FW CS3 I was able to resize and optimize both full size
images and the thumbnails. The issue is due to our website setup
the thumbnails are expected to be exactly 100x100. If the canvas
size is irregular the image gets stretched or squeezed when served
    up on the site.
So I created a custom action to set the canvas size to 100 x
100 with a white background and to expand from the center out. When
I run this manually everything is ducky. But when I add it to my
batch process the actual content of the thumbnails moves from image
to image. Some items are centered fine, some are too far left or
too far right (or high, low) some are shifted so much that they are
actually cut off to the left or right. There seems to be no rhyme
    or reason to it.
Here is how the batch is set up:
It grabs the original file ( a press resolution PSD file) and
fit to size to 100 x 100. Then I run the command to set canvas size
to 100x100 white background. And then it exports it to optimized
jpeg. I have tried running the actions separately. And when I just
run the fit to size and optimization as a batch the thumbs look
fine no weird positioning. So I know it is the command.
    Any ideas?

    Thankyou Heath
If I choose scale > scale to fit area > then choose a maximum width or height, that works for that part of the process.
Percentage doesn’t work, because I need them to be a particular size (either width or height, doesn’t matter , as long as nither of them exceeds 00px)
For the part that I then want to find the smallest measurement (width or height) and make a particular size, there doesn’t seem to be any way that I can find in FW to do that.
But, after searching on line, I found an app that does all that and more, its brilliant.  It will find the largest side, the smallest side, or whatever and change it to what you want and rescale the other side to fit.

  • Batch processing different files or not?

Hello, I would like to know if It's possible to batch processing feature with the Acrobat standard version 9.
I want to securize a bund of pdf files from their filename. What's the best version to deploy this subject, standard or professional? I'd like to do a similar shell where I can define a password per file and to establish a security policy.
Do I need the SDK or API or only needed Acrobat Professional?
How can I realize this one?
    How would you do that?
    Thanks

Hello, ok, then I must adquire the Professional version. Even so, I'd like to know if it's possible secure the collection files with different passwords in an unique process with other ways, ie. from SDK that's free now... or the best good option is batch processing with Professional edition.
In other words, Do exist other ways to do it that I haven't contemplated yet?
    Thanks!

  • Acrobat 7.0.9: Optimizing PDF increases file size?

Audit Space Usage in the Optimize dialog shows "Color Spaces" ballooning from 0.8 MB to 22 MB when a PDF is optimized (goes from 3% of the file size to 58%). File size increases from 23.8 MB to 35.6 MB.
What exactly is happening, and how can I fix it?
    Thanks for any info.

    Hey, Jon
    Interesting...
Original file (300 dpi CMYK images) 23.8 MB
    Images 19 MB
    Color Spaces 0.8 MB
Optimize with flattening (72 dpi images, low quality) 68.7 MB
    Images 49 MB
    Color Spaces 18 MB
Optimize without flattening (72 dpi images, low quality) 68.2 MB
    Images 48 MB
    Color Spaces 18 MB
Not sure why color spaces are down to 18 MB from 22 MB, I used a preset that I THOUGHT was the same one I used yesterday. Regardless, it's bizarre that both images and color spaces are getting huge when optimized.
I used Create PDF from Multiple Files to bring in a bunch of pages, but I'm reasonably sure that all those files were already flattened before I brought them in.
I'll file that transparency tip for next time though, you never know when it might come up.
    Thanks.

  • BUG: "Save and compact" increases file size by 1KB each time?

    Flash CS4
I noticed that when I do "save and compact" on a .fla file, it causes the file size to increase by 1KB each time--even when no changes were made.  Can this be fixed?

Yup. It works perfectly in CS3. Now the problem you will have is that you don't have CS3 installed. Even if you will save your files as CS3 format, you cannot (as far as i know) "save and compact" it as CS3, it will prompt that it must be converted from older version CS3 to CS4 and you end up with the same problem. Perhaps there is a setting to force CS4 to save and compact in CS3 version but i doubt it. The only way i know to solve it is save the file as CS3 format (But you will lose some XMP file info metadata, i'm not sure if that is necessary though) then close CS4, and open CS3 then "save and compact" it there. This is definitely a bug where some information might have been duplicated in the file's info or history. If you are lucky an adobe employee might be able to give you a solution to this or just confirm this bug.
