Battery draining fast, hot, no more warranty

I just noticed my battery is losing 1-2% every 3-4 minutes, it's only 6 months old but my second phone in a year. So it's out of options, when I charge ( out of the case) it gets pretty hot, beyond the norm. Theni get the plug symbol in the battery bar. After unplugging then replugging it resumes charge but slow and still hot. What can I do? Replace battery? I don't/can't afford a new phone now. Is it most likely the battery? I'll see once I fully charge over nite how long it lasts

  • Iphone 6 battery draining fast

Jus bought my phone and my phone battery become hot even I only use it for 5 min and the battery draining fast is it my phone battery have a problem?

    Hi Mqchew,
I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with your new iPhone. If you have a new iPhone 6 that you are concerned may be having heat or battery issues, you may first want to try restoring it to factory condition (if you have loaded any apps or data onto it) and testing it in that default state to see if the issue persists:
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings - Apple Support
If the issue persists after the factory restore, you may want to take it in to be evaluated and/or serviced. You may find the following page helpful:

  • IPhone 5s battery drain fast with iOS 8.1.2

I have iPhone 5s from 1 year. After updating to 8.1.2 battery draining fast. I needs charge the battery 3-4 times a day. I did the restore as new, but no change. Stopping the apps does not help. Please for advice.

I have also experienced this, but I think I have started to narrow things down. First of all, I am on an iPhone 5S 32gb, and I did NOT have any of these battery issues under 8.1.1, but since upgrading, the battery drains more quickly for sure.
What I have noticed, however, is that there are some strange correlations going on with what appears to be ridiculously severe battery drain - my phone will show 50% battery, and minutes later (of normal use, taking photos, screen at about 50% brightness, no overt internet or GPS activity) it will suddenly shut down completely. This seems to happen most WHEN IT IS COLD and I am using it outside.
When I try to turn it back on right after, I get the "plug me in" screen, as one would expect with a dead phone. However, if I wait a few minutes and let the phone warm up a bit, I hold down the power switch and on it comes, and when it comes on, the battery indicator will show 50% battery life again. I think of this as my FALSE BATTERY DRAIN problem, possibly unrelated to the actual battery life. I have only noticed this happening while running the Camera or Safari apps. Looking at my usage doesn't seem to turn up any surprises.
So Apple... what the heck is going on here? Is this an OS problem, is it an issue with your apps, with app conflicts... what is going on?
This is unacceptable. You know after being an Apple user for 35 years now I am not going to switch to Android lightly, but this is pushing me that way, and it is certainly going to keep me from updating to a newer, shinier phone until you show some commitment to supporting your users, who seem to be experiencing battery issues rather frequently these days.
Please at least show some INTEREST in being involved in this solution... I'm not seeing any indications of effort to fix this.
    Thank you.

  • Re: Battery Drains Faster in iOS 5 ?

    Hello,
I have marked that Battery drain faster if using apps in iOS 5 then the previous version, but the idle time is better in iOS 5.
In my case after fully charged, my phone show 100%  if its in idle mode for 7 hours, but as soon as i start some apps the battery drains faster, like if i use the apps for 15 min the battery remains at 80%.
    Have anybody experience this ?

@dimoff: I didn't experience the same thing with other mobiles, even of Nokia. I have Lumia 525, Moto G(Dual Sim). My wifi is always on and i use the phone without any problem for 1.5 days.
But where as Lumia 630, without any phone calls, only idel phone it could stand only for 1 day.
On the contrary what i have experienced is when i use 3G, battery is consulmed more tha wifi.

  • Iphone 5s battery drains faster on ios 8.1.2

    Hi,
Facing problem of battery drains faster after 8.1.2 update. Phone low signals, App store low signals

PPhone low signal? Are you saying your phone is having issue getting a strong cellular data signal? If so that is why your phone is draining battery at a faster rate.

  • My photo want sync and my you tube doesn't work after update and my battery drains fast.

this new update doesn't work like i should work my photo doesn't upload my you tube doesn't work & my battery drain faster than ever now

Synching new photos from iPhone to the new Photos app on the iMac is incredibly slow. Placeholders for the photos do appear but the content stays white (initially) then black. As an example, I started the Photos app some 15 minutes ago and am still waiting for the synch of merely 11 photos to complete.
Since I agreed to pay 4.99 euro per month to extend online storage to 200 GB, I would expect flawless behavior. I am disappointed.

    Moderator note: Added text

You can see what app drains your batter in "Settings -> Power Manager -> Power consumption details". You can analyze that for a bit and adjust your phone accordingly. Factory reset would delete all third party apps that could drain your batter or readjust the phone settings, but you don't need to do that as long as you can find out what apps are draining your battery.

  • IPhone hot, Battery draining fast, dataaccessd crashing repeatedly

I have been having problems where I find my iPhone battery has drained more quickly than normal, and I find it warmer than normal. Digging into it, I found that 'dataaccessd' and 'ReportCrash' are starting and stopping in the pid list. I am using a $2.99 iTunes Store program called System Activity Monitor to see the pids & CPU load. The CPU load is spiking every few seconds, which I guess correlates with the heat and battery drain.
I followed the recommendation below exactly with this afternoon's episode, and it is still running the processor and burning battery, looping through 'dataacessd' and 'ReportCrash' afterwards.
+Have you tried this simple tip?+
+1) Hit home button twice to bring up active applications+
+2) click and hold down mail until the red minus sign appears+
+3) click on the red minus sign to quit the application+
+4) hit the home screen and re-launch the mail application+
+This has always fixed my mail issues. Note restarting the phone does+
+not help, you need to do the above procedure.+
I also cycled power, and it came back up with dataaccessd still crashing & cycling with repetitive spiking CPU loads. I also turned 'push' off earlier today (Fetch New Data / Push -> Off), apparently with no effect.
I have the EAS profile installed per http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3398 with the DefaultEASTaskTimeout at 240. And it doesn't seem to matter whether the phone is on 3G or WiFi when this condition happens.
As usual, the "fix" was to delete my Exchange e-mail account and re-install it. After that, I don't see 'dataaccessd' and 'REportCrash' coming and going in the pid list. This "fix" works, but going through this procedure 3-4 times per week is getting old, not to mention the unpleasant surprise of finding my battery has unexpectedly drained when I need to use my device.
This is the first log entry (earliest) today at 13:39, when dataaccessd started crashing, before a slew of 4-6 entries per minute in the log directory on my Mac (after syncing) - see below.
Question - any ideas how to fix this ? It was happening before the latest iOS upgrades so I don't think the standard "reload the os" answer is the fix....

dataaccessed crashing repeatedly here as well, only when syncing with Exchange Calendar, regardless of push/fetch setting. Disabling calendar on this account stops the crashes. Re-creating account doesn't help. Problems started 2 days ago. More info on the crash from iPhone console below, collected using Configuration Utility, in case it can help someone. I suppose Apple automatically receives crash dumps for their own applications through iTunes ?

  • Iphone 4 battery draining fast and yellowish blobs on the screen

So I got my iphone 4 today. 32GB. Came home charged it full powered down for battery memory and left off for a few minutes like instructed.
I have not done much with the phone and I am already at 85% within an hour of using it for texting. maybe 30 texts so far. Wifi off, no tethering connection made, Brightness turned to max push every 15 minutes 3G on. For a battery that is 40%n bigger it is really draining fast.
Now I am noticing yellowish blobs on the right side vertically and a few on the top horizontally. I read in a post that it was because of not cured residue and should go away in a few days. DOES this make sense to you folks. Where does it say that on apples site.
I am about to call a tech about this and have them send me something in writing.
This is just frustrating as I was hoping for a great experience this year. From the let down from the white iphone to my battery being drained to now yellow blobs..man can anything else go wrong.
What say you??????? any of you have battery issues yet

If my past experience with iPhones and iPods is any indication, you'll find that over the next couple days as you use your iPhone the battery indicator will become more accurate. My habit (as I've done with my new iPhone 4) is to use it until the indicator shows red and then charge it fully and then do that twice more. At that point the indicator should be 'calibrated' with the battery and be more accurate. Yesterday I used my phone for about 5 hours before the battery indicator gave me 20% warning. Today I've used it as I normally would in a day and, as I always did with my G3S, I'm currently home from work with a 40% charge showing. Guess I'll have to play a little Angry Birds tonight
I've seen nothing official from Apple about the yellow splotches but I read either at Engadget or Gizmodo this morning that a worker experienced with this process claims it is the bonding adhesive which hasn't finished curing. It has been widely reported second hand. Don't know if contacting AppleCare this early in the game will get you anywhere. Since iPhones are in short supply at this time and you have a year's warranty, I'd wait a couple days and see if the report is correct. If the yellow defect goes away it was true.

  • MacBook Air Mid-2013 Battery Draining FAST (about 5-6 hours at best)

I have been having problems with my Mac's battery draining very fast even on light usage. Simply using Safari will drain my battery in 5 to 6 hours, when my laptop would last the stated 12+ hours before when browsing the internet. I followed these steps yesterday...
    Reset com.apple.finder.plist, com.apple.sidebarlists.plist and com.apple.desktop.plist
    - Open a new finder window
    - Choose Go > Go to folder. Your destination is ~/Library/Preferences
    - Locate com.apple.finder.plist and rename it to com.apple.finder_backup.plist
    - Locate com.apple.sidebarlists.plist and rename it tocom.apple.sidebarlists_backup.plist
    - Do the same for com.apple.desktop.plist. Note: This file was missing in my folder. If so: nevermind.
    - Open Terminal and type: killall Dock
    Reset your SMC:
    - shut down your system
    - plug in the magsafe
    - hold down shift+ctrl+alt+power for a second, then release. Your magsafe should blink
    - do this three times
    Reset PRAM:
    - turn on your mbp and hold down alt+cmd+p+r immediately
    - hold down the keys until you hear the startup sound the second time
    - release the keys and let the MBP boot.
Give your system some time to adjust to the changes: after a while it should show you a much increased battery time.
...but to no avail, it didn't have any effect on my machine. I'm not sure what to do. :'( Activity monitor shows Safari as having a "10.7 average energy impact" (I don't know what that means in all honesty) and is the highest consumer on the list, with Dropbox being number two on the list saying the average is 1.9 at the moment. I quit background applications so I know that's not an issue — I don't know where to go from here. Also, my battery max/health is 6909 at 97% health, so I do know it's getting a near-full charge. I miss having 12+ hours of battery as that's what I bought this for. Should I go to the Genius Bar and see what they can do?

    Hi hawknelson24,
It sounds like you have been on the right track. If you are looking for more options for troubleshooting your battery issue before potentially taking your Air in for service, you may find the following article helpful:

  • Iphone 4s battery draining fast

I recently updated my iphone to software IOS 8, however my phone heats up very hot and the battery does not last more than 6 hours, even when fully charged beforehand. I have followed all of the guides online on how to reduce your battery usage, but they don't seem to work.

Had the same prob as everyone else.  18-month-old iPhone 4s had good battery life until IOS 6.1.3 update.  Started draining at 7% per hour in standby -- Siri off, location services off, etc.  Went to local Apple store last Friday.  Phone slicked and IOS restored.  Walked around the mall for 45 minutes, and battery drained 7% in that time with one email (text only) and one 1-minute phone call.  Returned to Apple store and got another appointment on the spot.  Replaced phone since I have Apple Care.  What I didn't know is that the replacement phone had IOS 6.1.2 on it (realized that when I got a prompt to install the update).  I haven't done the update and battery life is fine!  So, if you can get back to IOS 6.1.2......

  • Iphone 5 battery draining fast

My 22 month old iPhone 5 has suddenly started draining its battery really fast. It loses 70% in 3-4 hours. Nothing has changed in my usage and I haven't upgraded to IOS 7 or 8.  My serial number doesn't seem to qualify for the replacement scheme for certain phones bought in 2012/2013. Is there anything I can do?

You're iPhone probably is working too hard.  If the iPhone is in hot conditions, the iPhone actually works to try to cool itself down.
-Make sure it's in a cool atmosphere.
Also, all the apps you've ever used, the phone is still running.  To clear this off in iOS.6.1, you would double tap the home button and swipe up on the apps you don't want you're iPhone running.
Delete usless apps, songs, photos, or anything that's usless!
Do all this and I'm sure it'll help you're battery life! Hope this helps!

  • Iphone 5s battery drains fast after ios 7.1 update.

Am I the only one who seems to be experiencing this? My iphone 5S battery seem to drain much faster than usual, and charge longer. I heard that the new update is supposed to increase battery life, and read comparison threads regarding other iphones that are capable of a much better battery life than mine.
I've had my phone for 3 months, never have dropped it once or anything of the sort, if that matters. My battery drains to 50% within an hour or so after intense use on the lowest level of brightness, and I seem to lose about 5-7 percents when on standby for 5 hours or so. Is this normal? Is it perhaps due to the fact that I am mostly using 3g, and applications that require more processing such as tumblr (graphics and gifs) as well safari? I'm just worried that my battery may be draining to quick, despite the update which's supposed to make it much better according to many people.
    Thanks.

    Me too.
I went from plugging in to charge at the end of the night, around 11pm, to barely getting through a workday with very light use.  With less than 10 hrs of standby and maybe 30 minutes with the screen even on I am rocking 15% battery life.  I'm also connected to wifi whenever at home or in the office, which accounts for over 9 hours of the standby time.
I know people are suggesting turn off features... but eff that, 5 days ago I'd get through an entire day without any issue, under much heavier useage.  I don't want to have to turn on bluetooth everytime I get in my car and back off when I get out, I just want it to work when I turn the car on... I don't want to manually check for emails, I want it to tell me when an email comes.
