Battery draining without being used..

Hi,
I've got one of the new aluminium macbook, and i've noticed the battery is acting pretty weirdly. I havent yet actually used the computer without it being plugged into the mains, so the battery should remain charged, as it used to with my old ibook.
However, i've noticed twice now, today being the best example, that sometimes when i turn it on, with the charger plugged in, the light shows orange and it tells me it's only 93% charged. I mean, since the last time i used it i haven't turned it on without the adapter, and it's telling me it needs to charge for an hour?! something's not right there.
i heard there were issues with the battery, but is anyone having this problem?

I have the aluminum MacBook as well, and I have a major problem with my battery.
I sometimes leave the computer playing a movie at night, and it goes to sleep when it's finished. The next day I packed it up and later found the battery completely dead (I thought oh well I guess something happened and it drained during the night)
Same thing happened a few days later when I closed the lid, came back and found the battery dead.
I looked up the battery in the Profiler, in the utilities folder. It said maximum charge 504mah (I belive it should be around 1500mah) and for condition it said "check battery"
So at this point I hook it back up to the charger, time left til charged 1.5 hours or so. Once it finished charging I took off the charger to check the charge remaining time and it read "10:00" 100% charge (but it never goes down, and within 1 to 2 minutes the computer will shut off)
When the computer is powered off and I press the battery level check button on the side it reads as full green.
Obviously there is a major problem but I wanna know if it's just the battery that was faulty, or is there a problem with the computer that caused the battery to go bad. The computer has been working fairly well. Having it checked at the Apple store tomorrow.

  • Battery Draining Without Use

I purchased a Nano for my husband for Christmas. it seems that even when he is not using the unit the battery drains. He hadn't used it for about a week and went to turn it on today with no luck. When he is not using it, it is not plugged into any charging device. Is this common for these units? My shuffle can go for a very long time without being used and holds it's charge excellently. Should we get it serviced? Does the battery drain even when not in use? Any help would be appreciated.

well, its sort of like any battery if its not used for a period of time it will start to lose its charge.

  • Screen goes black, and battery drains without using

Well, I noticed this from the first moment I got my iPod touch (first generation.) The screen would go black or freeze on white. sometimes it shuts off on its own when I'm not using it. I figured out what was causing it. It was Wi-Fi. I had it on Push, and it gets mail automatically. But when it lost the connection as it was trying to get the mail, it would cause the problem. So i set it on Fetch and everything was fine for a few weeks.
then I updated to the 2.1 software. for the past couple of weeks, i noticed that the battery would be drained even though I know I had it charged fully just that night. I thought it was strange but didn't know what was causing it.
The other day, I took out my iPod and saw it was frozen on a screen when it really should've been sleeping. For some reason, it turned on itself. Yes, by itself, because I left the iPod on a table and there was no way I could've accidentally touched any buttons or the screen to wake it.
It was frozen on a screen, sometimes it's just a black screen with lines across. Sometimes it's a white screen. But in any case, I think that's why my battery has been drained without me using it. It's using it up when it gets frozen on its own.
I've restored the iPod so many times and it has not fixed the program. Should I be going in and getting it fixed or replaced? ...Cause I don't think this is normal and nothing I do is fixing it.

Hello Alexdon, I have the same problem with my phone (Xperia T2 Ultra Dual), it restarts by itself at least 7-8 times a day. Today, before I thought of ringing up the customer support, I thought to get some help from the Support Forum and landed at this thread. I did what you said (reboot in safe mode) but still the problem is same. Within 5 minutes of getting into safe mode, my phone restarted and got into normal mode. What do you suggest now? As a first time buyer of Sony mobile, I feel hopeless and disappointed (and you can understand why). Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

  • My iphone 4s restarts itself and kills the battery when not being used, what is wrong?

If I'm not using the phone it dies and then restarts by itself, then when I woke up this morning the battery had died and it needed charging, it was fully charged when I went to bed, I have restored it with and without backup and hard restarted it, the only time it seemed to behave was when it was restored as a new phone with absolutely nothing on it at all apart from what it comes with.

restore the phone as new if it still does that then replace it

  • Optical out shuts off after some time without being used

    Hi,
I bought a Mac Mini to run XBMC on my TV. I connect the video out via HDMI to DVI and optical out to my sound system. It works great when I first start using it but when I return (usually a day later), I don-t get any sound. Restarting the application doesnt fix the issue and neither does logging out of my profile. A software reboot fixes the issue.
Has anyone encountered this issue? Any suggestions on possible fixes?
    Thanks, -d

    Hallo Tobias
You must understand that nobody here will be able to offer exact diagnostic and say what is wrong there. We can just speculate what it can be.
Such power problems are not easy to repair and mostly it has something to do with motherboard and power supply electronic or something else.
If you think BIOS battery is empty connect your notebook to the AC power supply and leave it ON about 48 hours. RTC battery should be full charged.
To be honest I don't believe problem is RTC battery. There must be something else. Anyway try to load RTC battery to see if there is some change to earlier situation.

  • IPhone Battery Drain, 7.1.2, I Have A FIX!

Hello everyone!  My name is Gabriel Chen and my iPhone has been having trouble with battery draining, and overheating.  I'm here to tell you how to fix it.  This is completely different from the rest of the posts because I've discovered something interesting and new.
Background (I'm a little long-winded, sorry. Just skip down to "What-to-Do" if you are pretty sure you've had the same problems as me):
I got my iPhone 5s when it first came out.  It's battery life was amazing, then the fire nation attacked.  Jokes aside, the battery became worthless about a month ago after I updated to 7.1.2.  I thought the issue was 7.1.2, but now that I fixed it, I don't think it is.  I took my phone into the apple store about a week ago because I was off to college and needed to fix this problem before I left.  They ran diagnostics and found kbd and backboard errors.  They immediately replaced it. I was happy because I had a brand new phone, but the battery issues came back, and this time even worse.  My phone was burning up, even hotter and it even froze sometimes.  I then took it to a store near my college–which was difficult because I have no car here–where they did a reset because that's what they always do.  I sat there and played with the phone to make sure the problem wasn't there.  Turns out it was still there.  I love apple genius bar employees, but not all of them are very knowledgeable about the products and how they work.  I don't blame them because: updates can always cause new problems, it's probably above their pay-grade to memorize what every single error code means, and they don't necessarily have knowledge that lets them troubleshoot any problems that involve hidden processes that their apple-issued easy-button diagnostic test doesn't tell them about.
I then approached another employee who helped me immensely.  He knew something was wrong, which was awesome because most employees do tend to blow you off, so he decided he'd try to help me fix it.  He had a lot more knowledge about the phone.  This time he found kbd errors again so he replaced it.  After that process, he disappeared into the back of the employee's only part of the store.  I tried playing around with the phone, and it was clear that the problem persisted.  I then went and got help again.  This time, the new person who was helping me went to the back, and I waited around for about an hour and a half not knowing what was going on.  The whole time, I was wondering where the first guy who helped me disappeared to.  For the sake of convenience, the first person who helped me in this paragraph will be Ian, and the second will be Will.  Will eventually came back out, this time bringing Ian along with him.  Turns out Ian had been doing research for me in the back for the last 1.5 hours and found that the problem probably had to do with iCloud.  My phone was draining and overheating due to its attempt to download some sort of data with no success.  So each time it failed, it would retry over and over again.  This explains the overheating and battery drainage.  We deleted some stuff from iCloud and it got a lot better.
The next day though, the problem came back.  I was so frustrated so I've been trouble shooting for the past 5 hours.  Eventually, after 4 hours, I tried using different iTunes accounts.  There was no battery drain when I used these.  When I used my original account, there were still problems.  So I tried turning off iCloud on my account.  Still, I had no luck with it.  I eventually tried something else which finally fixed it! My phone now no longer has problems with battery drain and overheating.
    What-to-Do
    1. Go to Settings —> iCloud —> Delete Account
Don’t worry, as long as you click “keep the stuff” or whatever it says, you won’t lose stuff
    2. See if your batter still drains by leaving it on and watching the battery.  Touch it and see if it’s heating up.  If your battery is draining 1% every 2 minutes, it definitely is still having problems.  It’s your own choice, but even if it does drain, I would follow the next step anyways.  If it doesn’t drain, the issue definitely had to do with iCloud.  Now, log in once again.
    3. Make sure all of the iCloud data that you care about is stored some where other than iCloud.  For example, make sure your Pages files are on your computer.
    4. Go to Settings —> iCloud —> Storage & Backup —> Manage Storage.  Then delete the stuff under Documents and Data.  I REPEAT, DO NOT DELETE WITHOUT FIRST MAKING SURE THE DATA IS ON YOUR COMPUTER IN SOME SHAPE OR FORM
Why?  What is probably happening is that there is probably data that is trying to get onto your phone.  This data is failing to do so which is causing an infinite loop of effort and failure which drains your battery and makes your phone work really hard.  Apple should code a fail-safe into this to stop the loop, but they haven’t yet.
    5. You’re done with this part!  For some of you, like me, your phone will stop draining.  If so, you’re done!  For some of you, it will start draining again!  Here’s the part that took me 5 hours to figure out, mostly because I was just frustrated and venting.
    6. If you’re still draining, go to Settings —> iTunes and App Store, and turn off SHOW ALL Music and Videos.  What this feature does is it will display the purchased items that have not been downloaded, but are on your iTunes account, specifically Music and Videos, within the the corresponding apps.  I understand that you probably like this feature and that you’re probably unhappy that I’m telling you to turn it off.  This is a glitch or bug that Apple will probably come to fix if it comes to their attention eventually, so don’t worry.  When they do fix it, you can turn these back on.
Why? For some reason, the battery drain was being caused either: by the phone failing to fetch data from your iTunes account, pertaining to purchased items such as songs and videos; or by the phone repeatedly fetching the data, instead of just holding it in place.
So, this fixed my phone completely.  Please rate me up if that’s even possible.  If you’re an Apple dude, I’d love to receive rewards if this was actually useful to you guys (haha, sorry I’m just a little proud of my accomplishment.)  If it doesn’t work, try to trouble shoot and figure it out.  If you would like clarification, feel free to comment or whatever it’s called. If this doesn't fix it, maybe try getting it replaced in an apple store because that might be the issue.

Thought it had worked but soon found out it had not.
after further days of trying finally, solved it for me Yesterday.
turned off notifications when locked, and bingo, wow.
i have not turned off iCloud but location services are also off.
best thing to do I found was keep checking your usage, settings, general, usage, and flip down to bottom, if the standby and usage are similar there is a problem, if there is a big difference then all is ok. Just keep turning things off and on until the difference is very apparent.
something on my phone was keeping the phone alive even when turned off, and I think this was the phone repeatedly trying to update continually.
to me this is definitely down to the iOS, my wife has exactly same phone and iOS but hers doesn't have any problem and the battery lasts for days.
the guy at the Genius Bar told me to restore the phone via iTunes, not iCloud. This is because iCloud remembers the exact info from your phone and simply reinstates it when you restore, and this includes the iOS too.
when I get home from holidays that's what I'll do, or wait for iOS 8 in few weeks. But I'm so pleased I finally made it work, I was beginning to think ditch the phone and buy Samsung.
anyway anyone out there please try my final solution and let me know if it works for you?

  • Battery draining overnight

The last two nights, my iPhone's battery has run down completely without being used. Does this mean the battery needs replacing?

This should not happen even if you have 20% battery life left before going to bed unless you have something running like push email. You said you did not but double check. Also, are you in a solid 3G area? If your phone is between Edge and 3G where ever you place it when you go to bed, it will drain because the phone is working constantly to find a network. Try setting your phone to Edge (turn 3G off) at night and see if your phone then drains.
    Is wifi turned off?
    Is blue tooth turned off?
    Is locations turned off?
Email set to manual? not still running after you close app? Push is set to off?
    Phone solidly connected to 3G?
After a full charge my phone is about to go dead by force (monthly time to calibrate). I just checked usage: 2 plus days of standby with over 7 hours of total usage.
If something isn't causing your phone to drain, you might have a bad battery.
Let us know what you find out. It can be helpful to others.

  • Re: Battery Drains Faster in iOS 5 ?

    Hello,
I have marked that Battery drain faster if using apps in iOS 5 then the previous version, but the idle time is better in iOS 5.
In my case after fully charged, my phone show 100%  if its in idle mode for 7 hours, but as soon as i start some apps the battery drains faster, like if i use the apps for 15 min the battery remains at 80%.
    Have anybody experience this ?

@dimoff: I didn't experience the same thing with other mobiles, even of Nokia. I have Lumia 525, Moto G(Dual Sim). My wifi is always on and i use the phone without any problem for 1.5 days.
But where as Lumia 630, without any phone calls, only idel phone it could stand only for 1 day.
On the contrary what i have experienced is when i use 3G, battery is consulmed more tha wifi.

  • 6D battery drain temporary 'Work Around'

6D battery drain - "Work Around"
    Install the Canon Battery Grip.
Step 1.  Turn the battery lock to 'Open'.and leave it unlocked
(Batteries are now disconnected from camera)
Step 2    Use a rubber band to hold battery tray in.
    ====================================
NOTE:: If Canon will not make a fix, possibly the after-market suppliers of the 'Grip' will make a three position latch.
A 'Modified' grip could easily be manufactured by modifying the tray and latch assembly.
Position 1.  Power disconnected and tray locked in (6:00 clock position)
Position 2.  Tray unlocked (Similar position as present)
Position 3.  Tray is locked and power is connect. (Same position as present and battery drain will continue as it does now..)
GET WITH IT CANON....   Or let the after-market fix it with their 'Grip'

6D Battery drain "Fast Stop" using the Canon '6D Grip'
I am enjoying using only one switch movement  to turn my 6D ON/OFF and not having any battery drain.
    1.   Leave camera switch in the ON position
    2.   Place a sturdy rubber band around the Canon Battery Grip to stop battery tray from coming out
    3.   Turn the Grip battery tray 'Latch' to OPEN/CLOSE (Effectively ON/OFF)
    4.    Making my Grip latch as my on and off switch for the camera and stopping the battery drain by the GPS operation
    5.    My 6D camera is now always ready for that one of a kind picture

  • Battery discharging despite being plugged in.

So I recently got a new battery the other day. I had the same problem with the old one as I am having with this one - although this is not the reason I exchanged the battery...
Even while the computer remains plugged in, my battery is discharging. It's very slow - losing 1% ever so often until it gets to 95% and then begins to recharge again.
I have noticed that it only does this while sleeping and not when the computer is shutdown (although the battery still does discharge if the computer is NOT plugged in, but I kinda expect that). Is this normal Macbook behaviour?
    Thanks in advance.
    D.A.M.O.N

This is not so much MacBook behavior as it is normal battery behavior. Batteries have a self discharge rate. That is what you are seeing. Even though the battery is not being used it's charge will slowly drop until it gets low enough for the charger to kick in.

  • Mysterious battery drain

Around once a week my ipod completely discharges it's battery. It's kept constantly charged through my compatible car stereo and always shows full charge. There's no problem when I use it away from a power source, it can DJ an all night party no problem. I've tried turning it off when not in use and using 'Hold'. When it has discharged, sometimes it doesn't even start charging when I plug it into my computer. It can discharge in as little time as 12 hours. It'll probably mean a new battery, but any help or advice would be apreciated (I've already checked the Apple site and there's nothing relating to this problem I can find).

    The steps below should help.
    - Make sure using the latest BIOS. (They always include fixes for battery drain)
    - Make sure using latest Thinkvantage Power Management.
    - Go to BIOS Disable Wake on LAN, Wake on Link and anything else wake on related.
    - Go to Device manager and disable Wake on Lan on Network card.
    - Go to device manager and check power management settings, allow computer to shut off option, on all usb items.
Issues are most likely BIOS/Windows OS configuration not the battery.
    - If you want to go further, double check the Windows OS wak_ armed devices in CMD "powercfg -devicequery wake_armed" Then check all the power saving options listed in device manager.
    - Also to diagnose battery issue, disconnect AC and Battery. Then reconnect the battery only and wait to see if the battery drains at all, probably not I bet. If not then you know its BIOS/Windows OS related.
    Good luck.
    Happy to help

  • Since I upgraded to iOS 7.0.4 on my iPad 3, battery capacity has drained almost 10%/hour without any use of the device. Prior to the upgrade, the battery charge would hold during periods of inactivity. What can I do to solve this significant problem?

Since I upgraded to iOS 7.0.4 on my iPad 3, my battery capacity has drained almost 10% per hour without any use of the device. Prior to the upgrade, the battery charge would hold during periods of inactivity. What can I do to solve this significant problem? Is there a way to uninstall iOS 7.0.4 and return to the previous version?

    Downgrading isn't supported.
You can poke around in the settings. There's a lot of stuff defaulted to on that you may not need, such as notifications.
You can also look into background app refresh and background app updates. They can be running in the background and drain your battery.
