Battery goes from 100% to 43% in 7 hrs with no usage (iPhone 3G OS 3.1.2)

So I charged my phone up completely last night before I went to bed. It was showing 100% battery life. Normally what I do at night is I'll put it in Airplane mode to disable all the radios in it, not only to preserve battery life, but also so it won't wake me up in the middle of the night when I get email. I woke up this morning, turned it on, and found it was showing around 43% battery, and it wasn't doing anything all night!
The only thing out of the ordinary was I left it on the dock overnight, but with the computer off (obviously.) Would the dock actually drain power from the phone? Or do I have something else going on here? It's been exhibiting abnormal battery drain throughout the day, and I've hardly used it.
I just got this thing a few weeks ago (refurb through AT&T). I'm sure out of all the things Apple might refurb on these things, the battery is not one of them.

If the device is connected to a computer that's not turned on or is in sleep or standby mode, the battery may drain.
Don't leave your iPhone connected to your computer when it is turned off tonight, and there should be a difference especially when enabling Airplane mode.
I believe a new battery is installed when an iPhone is refurbished.

  • Macbook Pro battery goes from 100% to 93%?

Upon charging my MacBook Pro 13", it fully charges to 100% but not even a minute later, suddenly drops to 93% and then resumes depleting normally.
Anyone know of anything happening like this before? I recently just got my battery replaced so nothing should be wrong with it.

  • Battery went from 100% to 0% and won't charge :C

Hi guys i need some help.
About 15min ago i was reading an article on a website when the screen 'blinked' it turned off going completly black then turned on again. Then i noticed that it said i had 0% battery but i have my MacBook Pro is plugged in right now, the battery was fully charged and its plugged in?
    So.2 problems
    1. Battery went from 100% charged to 0% in a matter of seconds WHILE PLUGGED IN.
    2. Battery is not charging at all now, just stays at 0%
Is this a common thing? like has this happened to lots of people before and is a known issue?
What info do i need to post up so you guys can more effectively help me? also might need to show me how to get this info.

    How old is your Mac?
Open System Info and look at the battery section. If it says Service Battery then take the system to Apple and have it serviced.

  • IPod Touch Goes from 100% Charge to 20% within minutes

My iPod Touch is a little over two years old.  It is now going from 100% battery charge to 20% within minutes of usage.  However, when I plug it in to charge, the battery shows that it almost fully charged.  Yet when I unplug it, it will immediately say the battery is at 20% again.  Is the battery at it's end, or is this a different kind of issue causing the problem?

First try to reset your iPod and if that does not work, try restoring it to a backup and finally to factory settings.  If that does not solve the problem, your battery is probably a goner.  Two years is short, but not unusual; my battery failed after a little less than two years.  Apple will replace your iPod with a refurbished one for $79 (USA) or you could do a Google search on "replace iPod battery" for a local or on line repair place that will replace the battery for less. You can even find a replacement battery (same search) and install it yourself if you're up to it.

My iPhone overheats. Battery drops from 100/90% to 10% sudenly. Got the device 20 days ago. I'm currently living in The Hague, there is no Apple Store in this city, took an appointment in Amsterdam, after 3 hours drive and 60€ travel cost got into the Apple Store, 73 minutes delay on my appointment the Genius  tech tells me I should leave my device for further checks in the store and come back in a week or two. Not presicely the answer I was looking for, plus he did not have any device to lend me until my iPhone was checked. Quite dissapointed, Apple was standard for quality on customer satisfaction, in the last 10 years I bought 3 MacBooks, 5 iPdas, 7 iPods, 5 iPhones and 2 iMACs... please don't let me down. Dear Ocean, one is a complaint about the quality of the device.
The second about the quality on response from Customer Service.
No worries, I'll delete both post since it seems that won't bring anything productive.
    Good bye Apple!

  • My iphone battery goes from 90% to 1% in 10-15 min  sometimes even without using it

My iphone battery goes from 90% to 1% very quickly sometimes in 10-15min, sometimes even if im not using my phone!
I may have 50% left at times and the phone will shut down and I won't be able to turn it in again until I charge it. When i charge it it turns back on with 50% battery! I don't get it.
I tried doing a reset and it didmnt help.
    please help!
    thanks

It sounds as if a process is locked. Since the reset did not work, then try a restore. First restore from a backup, and if that does not work, then restore as new. If a restore as new does not work, then make an appointment at the Genius Bar or Authorized Apple Service provider, depending on your location, and have the hardware checked.

  • I just upgraded to iOS7 on my iPad4 and found it got bettery drained. Followed online tips but not working. In 2.5 hours w/o doing anything, the battery dropped from 100% to 77%. Help!

I just upgraded my iPad to iOS7 and got battery drain problem. I followed the tips online to turn off all the unneccessary features and seems not working. Because this morning, the battery drops from 100% to 77% in 2.5 hours and I didn't even work on it yet. The smart cover is already closed.

If you followed these steps : http://www.apple.com/ie/batteries/iphone.html , you can attempt to restore your device (back up your information first ,if you don't have a backup) and see if that changes anything. If issue persists , you can contact Applecare and explain the steps you followed . Don't forget to mention that this started happening after you updated to iOS 7 .

  • Am I the only one experiencing battery drain with the 6.1.3 upgrade?  It went from 100% to 63% in 7 hours WITH NO USE!

Am I the only one experiencing battery drain with the 6.1.3 upgrade?  It went from 100% to 63% in 7 hours WITH NO USE!  I've had worse luck with the i5 than the i4.  This is the first time I regret being in a two year contract.  I might add that this is my 3rd i5

So now 12 days later and another replacement I'm still having issues and apple still isn't helping. My phone has started shutting off unexpectedly again today. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to go from here?

  • Battery going from 70% to 0% in seconds.

I've been having a problem lately with my PowerBook going from a decent battery capacity to zero. Usually I am watching something on YouTube or another video. I've had my battery settings at "Better Energy Savings". I got a new battery during the recall...could it be my battery is on the fritz? My computer is working just fine save for the battery issue.

There have been issues with the recall batteries not lasting a long time. One sign of a lithium battery on it's last legs is when it drops to zero without warning. Typically this happens below 50%, however, as opposed to yours dropping from 70%. You might try contacting either Apple support or your local Apple store to see if they would replace the battery.
You've probably already read how to maintain the battery at http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html

  • My iPod has recently begun to lose charge at a rapid rate, going from 100% to 10-15% in 24 hours, where it used to be above 60% in the same time and use.

As the title says, my 4th gen iTouch has recently (last few weeks) begun losing charge at a rapid rate. I charge it fully until I go to bed, wake up it's at 85%. After about 12 hours, with moderate usage (browse the web for roughly 2 hours of the time, a few IMs), and by then it is either at or below 20%. This issue has not been present long, but it's becoming increasingly frustrating. I used to use it to play Netflix overnight, leaving a movie or tv show playing, and it would use about 10% (depending on the length). It now loses 10% in sleep mode over the same time.
I have a few thoughts as to why, but no idea if they'd be correct. One is that we've recently had a lot of network issues, we had two routers going at one point, and one of them had a strong signal but never allowed access to the internet (weirdly) and the other worked normally. We have finally gotten rid of the problem router, but it was around the same time this issue began, so I was wondering if different wifi signals could require more work for the iPod? It sounds stupid to me, but it's one idea.
The second is that I have not synced to my computer in over 3 months. I recently built a new computer, and never got around to transferring my music files to the new computer. I know I've had numerous app updates, new downloads, deleted a few apps, and at least one software update. Do those files linger on the iPod until synced with a computer?
Before suggesting, I have turned off location services, notifications, Bluetooth, and my backlight has always been at about 20% of the slider.
I appreciate any and all help anyone can offer, thank you in advance.

First, try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose data by resetting. If the problem comes back, try to set it up as new device, explained here:
How to back up your data and set up as a new device
It might be necessary not to restore from the latest backup, in case it contains corrupt data causing the drain.
Deleting the mail account and setting it up again might also help if your account uses push service.
Sometimes switching iCloud off and on again also does the trick.

  • Can Apple Support Help - My Battery goes from 40% to 0% if i take a picture, when recharge it goes back to 40% within 1 min.

    I have a iphone 5.
I have noticed that when I do anything that could drain the battery, such as take a photograph, the iphone shuts right down and I get a picture indicating I have no charge and that I need to plug in and recharge.
Within 2 mins of doing this the battery indicates the same power level which it was when I started to take the picture, say 30%.
Do I have a battery or hardware or a software problem, if so is there a fix.

You should get your phone checked by visiting an Authorized Apple Service Provider or Apple Store next to your place.
You can also contact Apple Support and talk to them. They can check the battery online.
You can also visit this page to do that: iPhone - Contact Support - Apple Support
Click on Apple Support, then on ->Battery, Power &Charging ->Battery questions and troubleshooting, and follow the instructions.
Also see if your phone could be part of the iPhone 5 Battery Replacement Program

  • My iPhone 3GS battery goes from 65% to nothing and crashes. What cani I do?

AFter my battery gets to around 65% it just shuts down. What can I do to fix this problem?

My 3GS is almost 2yrs old and only has 1 small minor crack next to the dock connector.  It's barely even noticeable.
Going through 10 seperate devices in 2yrs is ridiculous.  I could see 3 or 4 being bad luck... 10 is the user being too rough on the device.
Frankly, your posting is the first I've heard of "Apple using inferior materials".  If that were truly the case, there would be postings all over the Internet and it would be big news on TV and in the papers.  You saw the fiasco over the supposed antenna issue on the iPhone4, correct?
If you are going to continue to use iPhones, I would strongly suggest you get an Otterbox case to keep it in and never remove it from the case.
