Battery Problem on Macbook pro 15 inch

Hi,
I having some issues with my battery. I had recently upgrade my snow learoard to the new lion os on my old macbook pro that I have now. When I did that. My hard drive makes some noises when I have muilple applications that I do run. I also do videos and it makes wierd noises when I'm uploading and downloading videos. So my question is how can I save battery life on my laptop when i'm using muliple prolbems that I use at the same time? Also I do charge my battery all day and all night and when i went to the apple store my cycle count is 5. The condition of the battery is normal but I just want to saved battery life on here. So I just need help on how to do that.
Thanks

Finally, I solved it!
I don't know why but when I did a file check, at the "Unix environment" (with commands + S I think), and a repair permissions it is OK.
I have to say that it did not solved when I reset the SMC.
I hope my problem and the solution to be useful to others.
Cheers!

  • Power and battery problems with MacBook Pro intel core duo

Hi there, I've been having this problem for about a week now with my macbook pro where it shuts down a second after it's unplugged, even though the battery is full. I tested the power cord with another that works, and the same thing still happens. I've zapped the p-ram, and reset the MPU where you take out the battery and hold down the power button for 5 seconds and all that. I think it might be the logic board, or something within that? Any suggestions before I send it in to Apple for investigations?

I started having the same problem several days ago. Unplug the magsafe connector, and the MBP powers suddenly powers off, even though the battery shows a full charge on both the menu bar and the battery leds.
I decided to try a new battery after reading a number of posts here about the same problem.
Back to normal with the new battery. So now I'll go back to Apple to get the non-functioning battery replaced under AppleCare. (I wanted a second battery anyways)
    Hope this helps.

Apparantly there were some compatibility issues with the Sims3 and Lion. I believe there is a Sims3 update available if I'm not mistaken.

Slow performance after installing Yosemite on an older Mac is often caused by inadequate memory. Although you can install the upgrade on a Mac with 2 GB of memory, experience has shown that at least 4 GB is needed for full performance.
Select About This Mac from the Apple menu. If you have less than 4 GB of memory, and your model has upgradable memory, install as much as it can take, or at least that much. Any reputable RAM vendor will have a web form in which you can select the Mac model and be directed to compatible parts.
Memory in the MacBook Air is not upgradable. If that's what you have, you should restore the previous system from a backup, or replace the machine. Ask if you need guidance.
The Etrecheck report clearly shows that SylvieRose has a Macbook Pro, not a Macbook Air and that there are only 2 GB  RAM installed.  The Etrecheck report can be very informative if one takes the time to examine it.

  • What is the problem on MacBook Pro retina 15"?

I just bought a new MacBook Pro retina 15". After unboxing, I turned it on and there was no any problem. But the second time I turned it on and charge battery, I got 2 problems, 1. The machine made noise loudly and 2. The charging is not working. What is the problem on MacBook Pro retina 15"? However, after about 1 hour, it works normally. Should I still use it or sell it before it has more issues?

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

  • Battery issues on Macbook Pro 15" A1286 (late 2008)

I am having battery issues with my Macbook Pro 15" A1286 (late 2008) model. My battery does not hold a charge for more than about an hour. It only has 287 cycles, so far less than the suggested 500 cycles, and something seems to be wrong with it - the back panel that holds the battery seems not to be attached as it should, as if the battery is pushing the cover out a little bit. Even my trackpad seems to be acting a little funny - it doesn't click in the same way or as easily as it used to.
In my use of the computer, I have routinely let it run on battery power only and cycle out, but most of the time, I am running it with the power cord attached.
Does this mean I need to replace the battery? I am out of AppleCare, and did not want to pay for a support question if I'm only going to be told that the battery needs to be replaced.
I do not have an Apple Store very close to me - it is a long drive that I cannot make on a business day because I have to be at work. I ordered my computer online and have not had any issues until now - though I once contacted AppleCare with some questions.
Has anyone had a similar experience, and can offer some guidance?
    Thank you very much.

    J G B,
Did you purchase an 'official' Apple battery? Batteries do some things well and have a long lifespan if well cared for, doesn't do some things so well (playing games, watching videos, etc.) and you can shorten the lifespan of a battery by how you use it.
But you should be able to get more than 2 hours out of a new battery (depending on how you're using it). If you're within 90 days of purchase, I would return th unit and ask for a new battery.

  • Can I change a new battery for my MacBook Pro 15' Retina? How?

Can I change a new battery for my MacBook Pro 15' Retina? How?

    Hi!
About a month ago, my MBPr 15", mid 2012 (Model Identifier10,1) showed, at first, Battery Service warning and on the next day X over the battery icon with Battery Not Available message in the status. MBP would run only and while the charger was plugged in, plug led would be always green, when connected. Battery test third party sw would not detect the battery, any longer.
Replacing upper case with battery/keyboard/trackpad, as per Apple,  in my country was too expensive, over 1000 USD, did't make any sense to me, so I've chosen DIY option (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pLhHSIej9fs) with all necessary precautions like tools, ESD protection grounded pad in place and ordered "new" replacement battery from Hong Kong on Ebay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/400699766989?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STR K%3AMEBIDX%3AIT).
Yesterday I came in new packing/sealed, I installed it, plugged the power cable on, plug led would turn green and then orange, I thought it's ok, but once system booted, I saw again X over battery icon and "Battery Not Available". I checked all the hints on internet, tried several times SMC and EPRON resets, no success. I filed complaint to Ebay supplier, he replied that battery undergone test prior the shipment, but ready for return and refund.
So, I can make another try and buy the battery from Ebay but what if the problem is with my logic board? From one hand charger plug led lights orange when connected to MBP, on another hand System doesn't see the battery at all: No battery in the System info/Hardware/Power. it works absolutely fine when plugged-in to charger. I ran extended AHT (over pressed "D" key while powering on) twice with No Problem in return. So, my question is does it ultimately mean that Logic Board and power circuits are all fine and the whole thing is about "new bad" battery? I there any way to entirely test Logic board and narrow down problem origin?
Thank you for attention in advance,
    Nurlan

  • How do i know if I need to replace the battery in my MacBook Pro?

How do i know if I need to replace the battery in my MacBook Pro?

There are a few ways (none of which are covered in the above link). On more recent OS X versions, when you click the battery icon in the menu bar you may see a "Service Battery" or "Replace Now" message. If you aren't seeing that, the system probably thinks the battery is fine.
Also, in your System Information utility, there is a Power section that provides Health information for the battery, with a Condition status and Cycle Count. If the Condition is Normal and your battery is under 300 cycles (for removable batteries) or 1000 cycles (for non-removable batteries) it is not time to replace it yet.
But of course, the other time to replace it is if you don't think you're getting the runtime you want out of it.
If none of those is a problem, don't worry about it.

  • Battery Problems with MacBook

I've been following the various threads about battery problems with MacBooks.
I too have experienced a problem with my battery on a 2 month old MacBook.
It suddenly refused to charge. It showed a battery icon with a black X through it.
I followed various suggestions that I found through various posts and support pages - eg. resetting PMU etc., even downloading the deep sleep widget which I found difficult to get to work - but nothing solved the problem.
Yesterday I went in to the Apple Store in Birmingham and waited until I could talk with one of the tec experts (incidentally, they were very helpful even though very busy and I didn't have an appointment). The tec guy said he though that the battery was faulty. It didn't work in another MacBook they had. But another battery would work in my MacBook. So, I was given a new battery, which seems to work fine now.
However, I have read in various posts that people have had the same new battery solution which works, but then the problem reappears with the new battery over time. I will wait and see. If that is the case, then I think it will point to the problem not being with the battery, but rather with the system, PMU, OS X, motherboard or whatever. So, I think it makes sense for us to post any difficulties we have so that Apple can see that there might be a problem with the batteries in MacBooks and start working on a solution. Otherwise, it will probably cost them a lost of money providing replacement batteries !

    Hey Christopher...
I posted the same in another thread. I'm not a big fan of duplicate posts... but it seemed appropriate in this case. Take a look at the last paragraph regarding discharging lithium ion batteries. I'm not sure if it would be the electronics in the battery that tell the MacBook it's time to charge, or the MacBook's power management unit...
"Talk about a jinx! I've had my MacBook since shortly after they came out (week 9). Never had any problems. I've calibrated my battery about once a month or so. It seems after my last calibration, I got the dreaded "X" in the battery indicator. My MagSafe indicator was green. System Profiler showed that there was no battery. I reset the PMU and the SMC firmware... also tried reseating the battery (one of those things you're sure won't work... but ya just have that little bit of hope anyway). Alas, nothing would bring my battery back. Took a trip to my local Apple store. I had made an appointment online, but still had to wait over an hour (they really need to enlarge their Genius area now that they have so many more machines out there). Told the Genius what the problem was... he swapped out the battery... but the one he tried was fully charged because he took it from a machine that was plugged in. So the tension was mounting... would it charge or not (I was hoping it was just the battery and not something else). He had me use my MacBook for a bit to drain the battery. I ran Parallels and did a Windows virus scan (that should drain the battery pretty fast)... After I got the battery down to about 90%, the Genius plugged it back in. To my delight, the MagSafe indicator went orange and started to charge the battery. With that, the Genius went in the back and got me a new battery. He had me stay there for a little bit just to make sure everything was okay. I'm sort of afraid to calibrate my battery now... at least properly as in letting it completely drain. I had done a few calibrations in the past without a problem, but it seems this problem tends to occur after someone does a calibration. I'm just happy it was just the battery.
I came across this little tidbit from the Battery University webiste:
Some lithium-ion batteries fail due to excessive low discharge. If discharged below 2.5 volts per cell, the internal safety circuit opens and the battery appears dead. A charge with the original charger is no longer possible. Some battery analyzers (Cadex) feature a boost function that reactivates the protection circuit of a failed battery and enables a recharge. However, if the cell voltage has fallen below 1.5V/cell and has remained in that state for a few months, a recharge should be avoided because of safety concerns. To prevent failure, never store the battery fully discharged. Apply some charge before storage, and then charge fully before use.
I wonder if there is a fault with some of the batteries that is allowing them to discharge below this minimal level, making them impossible to recover."

  • Is it possible to virtually bypass the battery on a macbook pro (retina 2014) and power the mac directly via AC power?

Is it possible to virtually bypass the battery on a macbook pro (retina 2014) and power the mac directly via AC power?
E.g. Dell allows you to plug the laptop into AC power but prevent battery charging.
Note: I do not want to physically remove the battery.
If there isn't an option on Mac OS, is there anything I can download to bypass the battery when I want?

Thanks for linking me! Wow I had no idea the clock speed would be cut so severely! What a bunch of rubbish, as if the AC won't provide enough power!
I guess the only solution to my question would be an app which virtually disconnects the battery but tricks the mac into thinking the battery is still connected. I'm just surprised Apple haven't yet started to build prisons for the government - considering how well they lock up their software and hardware!

The battery for my macbook pro 13 says "service battery".  Now I want to get a replacement but the reviews for it are horrible! Does anybody have any suggestions? I don't want to spend 130 dollars on something I'm going to have to replace in less than a year (which is what normally I been reading)  I do design work and I take my mac everywhere.  Having to always look for a plug or having to be constantly plugged in doesn't sound ideal to me.  Please help me. what should I do???

Why does it matter if it a scam????? I'll let you figure that out by yourself.  If I'm going to replace it, why should I be contempt with a battery that I have to replace within months (as stated by some people in the comments). The issue here is not if I should or not replace it OBVIOUSLY I'm going to have to before it starts going crazy.  The underlying issue is why is the replacement battery for a lack of better words " a bit crap."  It comes with a 3 month guarantee?? Is that a joke?!??!?! Some people complained it malfunction after only 8- 9 months? I'm sorry but as an Apple fan I think it's absolutely rubbish.
