BBM MESSED UP

Ok, So I have the BB Curve 9320 and since mid day yesterday I tried to change my dp, said it had but my friends said it still was the same. I have been changing it every 20 minutes since then until now (next day @ 9:51pm) just to see if it was my internet/reception. Still had no dp change yet all my name changes and personal messages changes have updated. I was thinking of deleting BBM, but unaware of how to re install it safely without bugs. I had BBM already on phone when I got it and didn't need to download it. Any ideas on what I shall do? Thanks

If you're having problem in BBM with Display picture , then you can try Reinstalling which has help many user in the past . To do so first On your Homescreen Go to Options > Device Application Management > Locate and delete BlackBerry Messenger from there.

After deleting perform a Battery Pull Restart by removing the battery while your device is Powered On .then wait a min. and re-insert it back .
Your device may take a long reboot , finally from your BlackBerry Browser browse to www.blackberry.com/bbm and the most recent available for your device .After reinstalling see if that helps

If you're having BBM7 then your BBM Contacts are integrated with your BlackBerry ID , after installing when you login with your BlackBerry ID your Contacts will be restored back , but if you're having any previous persion then first do a local backup , you can backup in your Media card, refer to this KB for further help

HELP!- BBM has completely messed up 11/12/12 HELP PLEASE

Right this morning i woke up with a notification telling me to upldate as normal so i did. When the phone rebooted it was not anywhere to be seen, so i deleted the app and reinstalled, I did this a number of times but it never showed up and when it did it kept saying files missing so i could never even start it up! I've tried downloading it from the website rather than the store but same problem occurs.
PLEASE CAN SOME ONE HELP ME!!

I don't understand when you say "it never showed up and when it did it kept..."
what did you do differently so that some times, the BBm icon disappeared, and some other times the BBm icon was available and clickable ?
What Bold you do have ? With which OS version?
What is the exact error message that appears when you say "files missing" ?
in the Application management, what is the version number of BBm ?

Upgraded my bbm now its all messed up

i did my upgrades when i did the bbm upgrade, my phone is now screwed up it keeps bringing up a message to connect and asking me for my key number to trust the download i don"t know i wouldn"t of upgraded if i knew this was going to happened i have rebooted i have taken the battery out what should i do beside maybe time to change phone so many issues with blackberry.

If you're having problem after updating your BlackBerry Messenger , then I suggest you can try reinstalling the same . your last update may not be succesful, So if you want to do that , then first Uninstall BBM from Options > Applications > Delete BlackBerry messenger from that list

HElP!! BBM and Internet NOT working :(:(

I recently upgraded my bbm about 3 days ago and ever since i rebooted my blackberry my bbm messages aren't sending they just come up with a red X! my bbm is also messed up it looks as if it has some glitches! I rebooted my blackberry took the battery out put it back in deleted and reinstalled bbm and every time i went back to reinstall it again the same thing happens! also my internet isnt working so im wondering if the bbm upgrade has something to do with that too? I've asked my friends who have blackberrys if this happend to them but the majority of them said their blackberrys were fine! Im just wondering if its my own devices problem or maybe blackberry itself?

BBm Group

Hi All,
I have the Blackberry Curve. In BBM I have a "Group" that shows 0/1 contacts but it shows no contacts in the list. It does not show anyone in the group, but I can not delete the group. I think this is what is messing me up with one contact. How can I get the group to show no contacts (0/0) so I can remove the group?

Bold 9930 update software messing up roaming service

9930 bold
BB 9930 7.1Bundle 9219 (v7.1.0.267 ,Platform 5.1.0.230)
Got update software(Sprint or BB-dunno, not paid attention) few months ago in US. While in Canada visiting my relatives for awhile, roaming service messed up like 1X most of time not 3G(earlier software worked perfectly) While 3G on, texting hardly able to send or receive.. Want to go back last software/remove current software that messed up service.. HOW? Thanks

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
The simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):
1) Make sure you have a current and complete backup of your BB...you can find complete instructions via the link in my auto-sig below.
2) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages
3) Make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed

4) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:
http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
It is sorted first by carrier -- so if all you want are the OS levels your carrier supports, your search will be quick. However, some carriers are much slower than others to release updates. To truly seek out the most up-to-date OS package for your BB, you must dig through and find all carriers that support your specific model BB, and then compare the OS levels that they support.
5) Delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
6a) For changing your installed BB OS level (upgrade or downgrade), you can launch the Desktop Software and connect your BB...the software should offer you the OS package you installed to your PC.
6b) Or, for reloading your currently installed BB OS level as well as for changing it, bypass the Desktop Software and use LOADER.EXE directly, by proceeding to step 2 in this process:

Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC.
If, during the processes of 6a or 6b, your BB presents a "507" error, simply unplug the USB cord from the BB and re-insert it...don't do anything else...this should allow the install to continue.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:

BBm : cannot send pictures anymore

My last upgrade I couldn't send pics thru bbm unless I just took them...if they were in file...forget it! NOW...I can't receive any...the person sending them gets message that I can't save file or some bs!!! I have frigged with this now trying to downgrade to a previous version...and trying to make this one work for 5 hrs!!! I'M FED UP! ...I love bbm...the only reason I've stayed with BB...and now RIM has messed up and won't even admit it and post a link for people to downgrade....I say IPHONE is looking GREAT!

BBM V6.1.0.71 Scrolling BUG

The latest official version of BBM has a disgusting scrolling bug. Where text messages are large or multiple, the cursor gets stuck at around the 3rd or 4th line of text and refuses stubbornly to move further up. One can overcome the problem on a touch screen phone such as 9800 or 9900, but if dependant on the touchpad alone, not usable. Exit the chat and re-enter to try again and often success or persist in scrolling down then up and sometimes lucky.
This is a pathetic coding bug and it is sad that such poor quality is being delivered out from the RIM stables. Especially since V..71 is already an urgent bug fix. Why then is there no urgent bug fix for the scroll issue?
To highlight how ridiculous the knock on effect is as a result of poor programming: Consumers are returning their phones to outlets to be repaired and/or replaced just to overcome the problem which is deemed to be the touchpad. Further, the standard RIM policy of not providing a ROLL-BACK or DOWNGRADE facility exacerbates this issue. When searching for downgrade OTA links and running the risk of downgrading, the BBM cursor is lost on OS7 (V6.1.0.49). How bad does this problem get?
Suffice to say that it is sad to witness such inefficiency from RIM especially after the service fiasco last year. One would think that RIM would be over eager to regain confidence and loyalty in the market.
Bottom Line RIM: Sort out the mess with a serious sense of urgency that is visible to the public eye.

You don't need an older version, this version works.
Just delete it form your application list.

Not receiving bbm, email and whatapp on 8520. Help!

Try a Battery pull please, with the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery 15 seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot device. This will clear all cache like rebooting a PC. Then try again and see if your problem persists.

Cant chat with a particular contact on BBM

I am totally furstrated and cant chat with a particular contact on BBM. I have tried reinstalling BBM many times. The contact shows up on my list. As soon as i send a message it says reinvite contact. When i hit reinvite nothing happens. The same happens with the other person when he tries to message me. And the best part is that we are unable to even delete each other. So we cant add again. So its a big mess. I so Hate BBM ! I am able to tok with others quite normally. Any help would be appreciated. RIM please dont release buggy BBM !

Did I mess up my security settings?

Good morning:
Last night, I got awake at 2 AM and started playing with the new Tour (too much caffeine last night). Anyway, somewhere in the middle of messing with Options>Security Setting>Application Permissions, I wound up where the Tour said I had to reboot to save the changes, and I couldn't get out of it - so I let it reboot.
I'm guessing I edited the Default Permissions - but I don't know which one(s). Is there a way to return the default permissions to my original Sprint factory state? The Tour is just my personal phone using BIS, but I don't want to allow anything more than necessary.

After a wipe, these two steps are critical:
1) Register HRT
Homescreen > Options > Advanced Options > Host Routing Table > BBKey (it does not matter which line is current) > Register Now
2) Service Books (to get your email icons back):

If things still do not return to normal (for instance, the permissions remain messed up), you can try restoring your BB to true factory fresh condition (for the OS level that it has installed):

That information is written regarding removing an IT Policy from the BB, but will effect restoring to factory fresh -- and, as such, might apply in your situation. Be sure to do the two steps above after this as well.

Screen messing up

When i turn my phone on the screen is messed up as its mostly grey and a white block all blurred

Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

8520 problems! BBM?

Hi guys had a few problems with my 8520 over the weekend. Done a bit of research last night on here and discovered the fault but couldnt get my laptop to play ball so I refreshed the software on it. All works fine apart from BBM. Have downloaded the latest version but it wont bring up display pictures? Any ideas why? I have version 5.0.1.38. It used to bring pics up? Although this layout seems different tbh with ya key lock is different etc. Have i messed it up? lol

This is likely a BBM server issue and not your device. I've seen a couple of other posts with similar problems. Hopefully they get it fixed soon.

BBM 7 - Why Has It's Release Screwed Up?

I've been seeing a hell of a lot of threads started because of numerous problems with BBM 7, like "All my contacts have disappeared" and "BBM 7 has been deleted!"
Why didn't RIM test it out themselves? They released a beta before it came out, surly someone raised a question about the bugs and errors, and why didn't RIM fix them or at least postpone the update?
Hundreds of people are thinking of leaving BlackBerry because of this, just look at the comments on the App World!
How could RIM screw up like this? Or even take a risk of messing things up? Their shares have fallen, and more and more people are thinking of moving to Android or IPhone!

"how" and "why" questions, such as these, require "insider information" to truly answer. And, anyone who has such information would naturally be enjoined from releasing it...so I really don't think that you'll be able to get any definitive answer to this question. Plenty of opinions, of course...but nothing authoritative.
My guess is that, like all things designed and built by humans, there is a chance of defect that is greater than zero, and the chance of a perfect roll out is indeed zero. Further, with a complex environment such as this, my personal view is that it is simply not possible to truly test out all scenarios during the development phases...the final true test is what I've always called "field testing"...when the product is actually released to the world and all scenarios can then actually be tested. Sadly, the only way to do that is to truly release the product.
Note also that RIM is not alone in this type of debacle. Remember Windows Vista? And Windows ME? And (I think) Windows XP SP1? But Microsoft remains in business, in spite of those debacles. I suspect that, as bad as this BBM release may appear to be, RIM will continue to survive.
Further, it's impossible to truly evaluate the success/failure rate of this release from a forum such as this one. This site is specifically intended to provide help to folks who are in need...and so we naturally never hear from those for whom the update went smoothly and no problems ensued.
If you truly want to evaluate a "problem rate", the only metric you can draw is the number of complaints here divided into the entire BB subscriber base...and even that will be inaccurate as it cannot account for those users that are ineligible for the update or simply choose to avoid it. Nor can it account for those who have problems but go elsewhere for help.
All in all, my (100% subjective) take from the complaint rate is that it is a little worse than some prior releases that RIM has had, but not spectacularly so -- at least not yet.
You've been very helpful to a lot of folks here on this site...I do hope that you will continue to be so. We try to promote this site as a place to come for help...at the same time, we try to avoid it becoming a place to just "bash" RIM...for doing that really accomplishes nothing to help someone else out of a difficult situation. There is a plethora of choices in the world and no single solution is perfect for everyone...we begrudge no one their choices in mobile device solutions.

My MAC runs very slow. Rainbow wheel every time i try to go somewhere. Im a complete MAC novice. Only really use it for iTunes and email. the odd document here and there. The odd spreadsheet. Was brought up on a PC. I would imagine my system is in mess. I think i downloaded that Mackeeper which i have just discovered was not a good idea. I found a thread about EtreCheck and it suggested i posted the report of my machine which i have done.I only have 2GB of space. Not sure how much i have left. My wife keeps putting photos on here like they are going out of fashion. Bought the machine in 2008 because everybody said you have a MAC. I've never really got to grips with it but at least it worked. Now it does not run very well at all. That spinning wheel is driving me mad. 1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. 3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can read it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.
