BEFW11S4 Wireless-B Broadband Router Issues

I have been having issues with my router lately. It is a Linksys BEFW11S4 - Wireless-B Broadband Router. It has the latest firmware and everything which was from like, April of 2005 since this is an older router model. I've had it for about 3 years now and have had no problems until this past week. I have Verizon DSL. Anyway, my network connection seems to fail every so often at least 6 times a day at random times. I use WEP security encryption and everything. Every time it fails, I have to reset the router and go into administrator configurations and retype the password then it starts working again. But it is annoying since I just lose connection for no reason when I'm in the middle of something. Even when it fails, it does not indicate that I lost connection or that my connection is weak. It says that the signal is still excellent all the time even when it stopped working and the Internet light is still on. Odd. Does anyone have any idea what is wrong or is it time for me to buy a Wireless-G router instead and hope that fixes the problem? Again, I have had no issues with the router and it has been working great for nearly 3 years until this past week and I did nothing to mess with it. Maybe is it just that the hardware is worn-out? I dunno, I just want this problem solved.

Bad DMZ + Portscan = Reboot. I’ve noticed that a portscan will cause the router to reboot if you have a bad DMZ host specified in the DMZ settings. The “Dummy DMZ” is a known method for stealthing Linksys routers, but apparently doesn’t work due to this problem. This problem has been confirmed on the DSLReports discussion board as a problem thats been around for a while, not just in 1.39.2. I’ve found that even with a valid DMZ host, a portscan will sill hose the router. If you turn on the “daignostic logging” (see hidden features section), you can see log entries that say [HH:MMS] Free=xxx, where xxx is getting smaller and smaller until it resets. (Note: this happened with default filtering settings, no spi, block wan, etc)
UDP Traffic Can Cause Reboot. In much the same way as the DMZ problem, sending large amounts of UDP traffic can hose the wireless interface. I used QCheck to send 1mBit of information in 10 seconds from a desktop (wired) to a laptop (wireless). You can see the [HH:MMS] Free=xxx decline. When it gets to 0, the wireless interface activity light goes solid and the router locks. This bug hasn’t been confirmed yet on any message board or newsgroup. (Note: this happened with default filtering settings, no spi, block wan, etc)
hmmm..just curious what model number are you referring to? Is it BEFW11S4 ver 1 or 2???
Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is mystery. Today is a gift.

  • BEFW11S4 - Wireless-B Broadband Router questions

I have the BEFW11S4 - Wireless-B Broadband Router. Did it come with mac software originally? If so, is it possible to get the mac software from your company? Secondly, is there a way to disable the wireless signal on it and use it as a wired router? How would I do this? Would I do it in the network system preferences on my mac or would I need the software that came with the router originally?

    Hi…
Linksys software CD does not operate on MAC  OS. But you can still use the router with MAC. To configure the router with MAC OS connect the MAC to any of the Ethernet port of the linksys router. Login into the router by typing http://192.168.1.1 ( Default IP )  in the address bar of the IE. Leave the Username field blank and type admin as password (If you have not changed the router password.) Using the user interface you can also disable the wireless function of the router.

  • Extend range of BEFW11S4 Wireless-B broadband router

    Hello,
I curently have a linksys wireless-B broadband router (BEFW11S4) and would like to extend it's range, which device should I buy to accomplish this? I guess I could buy a linksys wireless-G access point (WAP54G), but I'm not sure it will work with an wireless-B router (BEFW11S4). Anyone, any ideas?
    thanks in advance,
    Joeri Kumbruck

yes.... wap54g doesn't work with a wireless - b router.. it will work wirelessly only with another wap54g or wrt54g....even wap11 might not help you..
if you have befw11s4 v 4...then you can try setting up a range expander with it...however , make sure that both the devices have the latest firmware.....

  • Wireless B Broadband Router (BEFW11S4) connects for only about 5 mins at a time

I have Wireless B Broadband Router (BEFW11S4). Worked fine for about 2 years. I've had a HP Pavilion for about a year now using the wireless and also have a desktop I use on it (wired). About a month ago the speed seemed to be lagging a little and the router was never secured with a password, so I changed that and added a password. Ever since then the laptop will not stay connected for more than about 5 mins. I have gone back and removed the password protect feature, but still have the problem. It has a problem connecting to the router. The signal bars always seem to be full, but still can't connect. I've tryed reseting the router, unpluging everything, etc and can't get it to have a steady connection like before. Sometimes I can connect to the internet even when it says "Not connected" in the wireless network connection 2 screen. I've tried to search and find a similar problem, but was surprised to not be able to find one. Any insight will help.
    Thanks,
    Lman

Thanks for the suggestions Wizzard. Although I did not know what all that stuff does, it didn't seem to help. I didn't not upgrade the firmware because there didn't seem to be any upgrades since 2003, before I bought it. Any other suggestions from anybody? Could anybody make an educated guess to whether it's the router or the laptop?
    Thanks,
    Lman

  • Wireless-B Broadband Router(BEFW11S4) Problem

I bought a Wireless-B Broadband Router(BEFW11S4) from someone but it didn't came with the CD is there another way to install it like a driver or something like that

There is no "driver" for your router.  Your router has firmware that resides on a flash memory chip in the router.  Check your router to see which version of the router you have.  This should be listed on the bottom of the router, near the serial number.
    To setup your router:
First, download the User Guide from the Linksys web site:
    http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Content_C1&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1115416835852&...
Next, reset the router to factory defaults (see the User Guide for directions).
Then go to Linksys.com > Support > Technical Support > EasyLink Home Networking Tools > then use EasyLink Connect to configure your router.

  • How to set up the airport express with a linksys wireless-g broadband router

I need to know if and how to set up an airport express to use to extend a home wi-fi network. I have AT&T service with a 2WIRE modem. I am using a Linksys wireless-G broadband router. I also have the new Macbook Air notebook. The airport express keeps giving me a blinking amber light even when the ethernet cable (from the modem) connected. Please let me know how to set up an extended wifi network using this system. Any help would be appreciated.

If that is all that is done, the Express would not provide more wireless coverage.  Instead, it would duplicate the coverage provided by the Linksys and there would be two WiFi systems covering approximately the same area.  As per my above comment, one Express connects via Ethernet to the Linksys.  The second Express provides the extension.
You must have misunderstood what I was saying.
Linksys is providing a wireless network.
The Express is connected to one of the LAN ports on the Linksys router using a long Ethernet cable (or Ethernet powerline adapters)
The Express is located on the other side of the house, for example.
The Express is configured to create a wireless network using the same wireless network name, security and password as the Linksys router
The Express is configured in Bridge Mode
This has worked quite well for me for years. Computers "switch" from one wireless access point to another smoothly and automatically while they move around the house.
Although this is an "extended" network, it is technically known as a "roaming" network.
This is what I was suggesting as a possible alternative without having to buy more hardware.

  • I need help to configure new wrt300n wireless and broadband router

Just purchased the wrt300n wireless-n-broadband router. The router is not being found.  I have all the cat5 cables connected. I am running windows 2000 with a cable internet connection. There are 4 wired computers on the network I am trying to setup. The internet connection is great if I run it through the modem. I have run the cd-based wizard provided with the router a couple of times. No Luck! Please help!

    you have a cable modem?
if so you need to reboot the cablemodem so it will see the mac address of the new device your adding to the network.
if you have ADSL we shall take it a stage further.

  • Problems with 3 Wireless-G Broadband Router with SpeedBooster

I bought 3 Wireless-G  Broadband Routers with speedboost.
They all had problems.  After buying a second one,  I figured the first one had a defect.  Then I had more problems.   Is this just more bad luck? Then I bought the third one, and still had problems, especially with the program it had me install on the pcs I had at home.  It just wouldn't keep a connection.  Then, most of the time I had to restart the router..  Shame, I thought to myself... I wondered if linksys knew about this router and its problems..   I even tried to upgrade the firmware, and it only had problems after that on one of the routers.  I just got a complaint from one of my friends about the router.  I had a feeling I knew what it was once she told me the problem it had.  Then I asked her the type a router it was. "Linksys" she told me and I told her my story with 3 bad routers. . It was weird..
Oh, well, hopefully linksys will look it up and see what is up with the product.  Buying the 3 same routers and them not working was a little weird.  At least it wasn't working the way it should have.
That is all from me..  I know this is a serious post, so reply all that want to.

What you want to do is set up your wireless security.  The routers setup page
(192.168.1.1) can only be accessed IF someone can get on your wireless network first.  Of course, you want to change this password to something other than 'admin' anyway.  This you can do by accessing the administration tab in the setup pages of the router by going here to see how it is done.
Now, you want to secure your wireless network by going here.

  • How to set up a password or security using wireless g broadband router wrt54g

Hello Everyone I have had my router for a while and a friend mentioned I should password protect my connection so other people can't lech off of my wireless connection. My roter is installed and connected to my main office computer and I only bought it so i could use my laptop around the house. Everytime I go to profile then secuirty settings and try to imput any password and hit ok. Well after I connect to my wireless profile it comes up with my router has no secuirty turned on at this point. Yet I read from many sites that my router which is model wrt54g has secuirty features. Could someone please help me figure out how to password protect my wireless connection. THank you

    Hit there exiledone1!
If there'd be any computer which is working through the router, you could get into the router's User Interface without any problems then. You need to get to this page so that you'd be able to do necessary changes on it's wireless settings.
http://192.168.1.1 would be the address, type this on the Address Bar of your Internet Explorer browser or Mozilla Firefox browser. If you'll be prompted for a login page, simply leave the username blank (or don't write anything on it) and your password would be admin. You'll be able to see the Wireless Tab once you'll be inside the page and below the Wireless Tab would be subtabs and one of them is Wireless Security. Just click on Wireless Security and you can choose WPA for your Security Mode. Just type in anything right on the WPA Pre-shared key field and this will then serve as your wireless password (a.k.a network key). Just make sure the length of the key would not be less than the count of 8 characters.

  • Re-installing software for Wireless-G Broadband Router

I had to replace my hard drive on my desktop unit. Now my laptop no longer can find my wireless router. I tried re-loading the software, but it tells me I must configure with the default username and password. I can't find what they are or how I do this. Help?

Do not run the CD...Connect the laptop hardwired to the router..open the setup page by typing 192.168.1.1 in the address bar and configure the router's settings as per the ISP settings..

  • FAQ Broken: How do I upgrade the firmware on a WRT54G Wireless-G Broadband Router?

I tried to view the above question in the FAQ, but it goes to the answer for a different question.
I then tried "How do I upgrade the firmware on my router?" a little further down,
but it acts like I'm not authenticated, and won't accept my Linksys Forums e-mail address
and password. When I try the password recovery, it says my e-mail address is invalid.
Can someone please point me to instructions for upgrading the firmware on my WRT54G?
Specifically, someone told me that the router needs to be listening on the default 192.168.1.1
IP address, but mine is listening on 10.1.1.2. Do I need to change this just to flash new
firmware, because that will be a little painful.
    Thanks,

Go to website linksysbycisco.com/downloads.........insert model no of your router in serach tab......select proper version of your router........download the firmware file......save that file on desktop
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - "Default Gateway of Your Router"...Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
    Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...
**To Check the Default Gateway of the router...Click Start >> All Programs >> Accessories >> Command Prompt...A black box will appear(Command Prompt)...In the Command Prompt window type ipconfig and press 'Enter'...Look for Ethernet Adapter Local Area Connection IP Address , Subnet Mask and Default Gateway...
**To all the above setting using the wired computer.
