Behavior of fvwm-crystal in openbox

Hi,
how do i set up a special feature of fvwm-crystal in openbox to behave equally.
In detail, I am regarding to the ability in fvwm-crystal to click the middle mouse button once and then being able to change the screen simply by moving the cursor "in" the next screen (virtual desktop).
By clicking the middle mouse button twice I am locked in the actual screen and the feature is disabled.
What changes have to be made in my ~/.config/openbox/rc.xml to set up the mouse-bindings corretly and use this handy feature from fvmw-crystal in openbox, too?
Thank you very much in advance !
KBD

EDIT: Wait a minute.. fvwm-crystal appears to be in the official pacman Extra repositories.. Why are you trying to do this manually? I don't understand.
Just pacman -S fvwm-crystal.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FVWM-Crystal
The documentation seems rather complete to me, with exception to assuming an install of an older version exists already.. or perhaps I'm misunderstanding your request, I don't know. I just followed some links in the original thread your link was from to find it. It appears to even be distro-neutral except for installing dependencies and adding additional programs, which one can easily fix to Arch form.
You could probably easily make an Arch PKGBUILD for this setup based on the instructions, or ask someone in the pkgbuild forum section to do it for you. I may do it myself at some point if I get bored and nobody else has done it already.

  • Installing FVWM-Crystal on Arch (2.6.23-ARCH i686 Mobile)

    Hello everyone
I am new to arch, but I have overall knowledge in linux, and I'd like to install the previously mentionend WM. The problem is that I dont know how to even add a repository, and what repository I should add. So, any overall advice on this matter is welcome Thanks in advance!

fvwm-crystal is in unstable. You need to edit your
    /etc/pacman.conf
    [unstable] <--------- UNMARK THIS
    # Add your preferred servers here, they will be used first
    Include = /etc/pacman.d/unstable <--------- UNMARK THIS
so you have access to unstable packages and then
    pacman -Sy fvwm-crystal
at this point once you have installed then you can go back to pacman.conf and recheck unstable so you aren't running an unstable system.
fvwm-crystal is still at version 3.0.4 so you will have to manually upgrade to 3.0.5 if you want that one.
If memory serves me correctly that should work.

  • [SOLVED]FVWM-Crystal

I wanted a lightweight  DE/WM to use and FVWM-Crystal looked interesting so I decided to try it. The problem is that I can't start it. I use LXDM as my display manager and FVWM-Crystal didn't automatically show up in the menu on the login screen, so I put fvwm-crystal.desktop in /usr/share/xsessions. That got it to show up, but when I try to go in to it. The screen flashes and comes back to LXDM. Will someone please tell me how to start it? Thanks.

I uninstalled the fvwm-crystal I compiled and installed the one from [extra]. I put "exec /usr/local/bin/fvwm-crystal in my .xinitrc and stopped lxdm and I ran startx. I got an error message the said it could not find the file /usr/local/bin/fvwm-crystal. I did:
    $ locate fvwm-crystal
    /home/tux/.local/share/Trash/info/fvwm-crystal.trashinfo

  • FVWM installed but cant make it use my themes

    hi! i installed FVWM...
    $ pacman -Sy fvwm
I found a nice theme and want to use it, i extract the .fvwm folder to my home and in that dir, its a .fvwm2rc file but it seems that fvwm dont found it because all i get is a black screen and (only with numlock deactivated) the menu with rightclick, and windows have what it seems like a windows border with no buttons, but the theme i download, (and edited the .fvwm2rc file) has a lot of things that doesnt appear in the forums i search and in guides of fvwm and seems that if there's a .fvwm2rc file in the .fvwm dir fvwm will use it...
i too install fvwm-crystal and run with no problem, with its config, but i want fvwm alone
    tnx!!

You probably want to pacman fvwm-devel, not fvwm. The fvwm package is very old (but considered stable).
Also, read the fvwm faq, it'll tell you how to redirect output to a log so that you can find out what it's erroring on.

  • Where'd this GNOME come from?

Logged in this morning and did a quick pacman -Syu only to find out that Gnome desktop and all it's dependencies (555Mb of them) are now required to update my XFCE only machine. What happened? how do I find out which package did me in?

    xpdf is yet another.
and since you are thinking about going lighter....go for it. I think Openbox is a much better alternative than any DE -- provided you can configure your system with what you need. But once you do it, it just grows on you.
I went from Gnome --> Xfce -- and found it lighter and a bit faster but not by much. Then I started WM-hopping and tried a large number of them, fluxbox, openbox, pekwm, IceWM, FVWM, FVWM-crystal and many that i don't even rbr now. It was fun. Openbox was the best among them all, followed closely by Fluxbox and PekWM.
But then I ventured into tiling WMs and have never looked back. Haven't logged into my openbox since a year now.

  • Chart legend shows database field instead of value

    Hi,
I would like to understand the behavior of the charts legend, which sometimes display the field values as requested, but sometimes display the database field name starting with a @.
We develop Crystal Reports and then generate them via an application. We have many releases of our application and therefore we get to work with Crystal versions 10, XI, XIr2 and 2008.
In all cases, the legend display is correct when in the Crystal Reports Designer preview mode. However when generated through our application (using ADO.NET), depending on the Crystal runtime version (apparently) the result varies. Editing the legend label in preview mode doesn't resolve the issue.
Is this behavior related to :
    - Crystal Reports runtime (it appears to happen only with Crystal Reports runtimes XIr2 and 2008 in our case) ?
    - Using formula fields in the chart instead of database fields directly ?
    - Evaluation time (our charts are in Report Header and/or Group Header) ?
    - any other idea ?
    Thank you very much
    Anthony

We have been able to detect that the Language Regional Settings of Windows XP Pro has a direct effect on our charts legend display.
We noticed that when the Regional Settings were set to English, the report would generate correctly and chart legends would display values, and not database fields names. However, when the regional settings are set to another language (tried French, Dutch, Spanish and German) the problem occurs.
Using Process Monitor we have spotted that when in Regional Settings other than English it was still the English dll that were called (crdb_adoplus_res_en.dll)...
The problem occurs with Crystal runtimes XIr2 and 2008 only. We use Crystal Reports in an application, using ADO.NET connector, and we use the Crystal runtime to generate reports.
Is this a bug or is there a workaround to make sure the correct dll are called according to regional settings ?
Thank you for your kind assistance.
    Best regards,
    Anthony

Well, there are the on-line manual pages:
    man ivman
    man IvmConfigActions.xml
    man IvmConfigBase.xml
    man IvmConfigConditions.xml
    man IvmConfigProperties.xml
And there are examples in the default files (/etc/ivman/) provided with Ivman.
But that you probably already know. I'm not familiar with any other docs, except maybe tutorials on the net if you count them as docs

  • Fluxbox broken when launched via qingy

Not sure what's going on, but for some reason out of the blue fluxbox no longer works properly when launched by qingy.  FB launches, but seems to only partially start up.  The desktop background is black, instead of showing my wallpaper, and although I can right-click on the desktop to bring up a menu, when I click on anything in the menu (e.g., aterm) it never gets launched.
This isn't a fluxbox-specific issue, as I'm able to launch FB fine from a different desktop manager (slim).  And it isn't a qingy-specific issue, as I'm able to launch other WM's just fine from qingy (e.g., icewm, fvwm crystal, etc.)
What's odd is that this combination of qingy/fluxbox was working fine up until recently, and I haven't changed anything in my qingy configuration in ages.  I just haven't used this combo in a while, and now when I come back to it it somehow got broken (by some unrelated package upgrade, I'm guessing).
My qingy fluxbox launch script reads as follows, btw:
    [darose@daroselin ~]$ cat /etc/qingy/xsessions/fluxbox
    #!/bin/dash
    . /etc/profile
    /usr/bin/startfluxbox
Anyone have any idea what might have broken this and/or how to fix?
    TIA!

Well, I got hit by this again when I updated world on my Gentoo desktop, so I guess it was time I finished investigating this.  Unfortunately that update included a whole bunch of X libraries, so tracking this down further to a specific package doesn't sound very fun.  But at least I figured out the cause of the weirdness and a workaround.
For some reason, Fb is trying to execute programs on the :0 display, but the X server uses the :1 display.  I know of two workarounds, but I haven't bothered to determine how either might effect the use of other login or window managers.
    1. Tell Fb to use the correct display.  The last command in the $HOME/.fluxbox/startup file should execute fluxbox.  Change this to something like:
    exec fluxbox -display :1.0
    OR
    2. Tell Qingy to use the correct display.  In Qingy's configuration file at /etc/qingy/settings, set this option:
    x_server_offset = 0
    Enjoy.

  • *fixed* Really tiny fonts problem

Hi there, i've been a happy archlinux user for quite some time but recently I have developed a problem that I can't find a solution to.
A few weeks ago I got myself a samsung HDTV to use as a monitor and now the fonts in my system behave really strangely. In gnome everything is fine, but GDM, FVWM-Crystal and XFCE4 have really, really tiny fonts. The fonts are so small that I can't even read them.
Can anyone suggest a fix? I tried "startx --dpi 100" but nothing changed.....
    Thanks in advance!

It's not necessarily the Look 'n' Feel I find appealing.  One of the more interesting features, imho, is the packaging of an application in its own .app folder.  It would make installing (and uninstalling) an application a lot easier for people who are new to linux.  This is one of the things Mac fans often stress when talking about OSX (usually comparing it to Windows), and yet this is not an OSX-only feature.  But of course, this isn't necessary with a great package manager (as pacman is).. and this isn't the thread to discuss GNUstep I guess

  • Cairo-clock with black background, while xcompmgr is running

    Hi all
I'm using fvwm-crystal as wm, with xcompmgr as composite manager, and it works perfectly.  But when I start cairo-clock, there is a black square background, which I think will appear only when composite extension is disabled.
Have you guys ever experience this?

I believe for the transparent background to work the WM has to support ARGB visuals. Last I checked FVWM didn't do this correctly (it uses the root visual instead of the one requested by the window being drawn) and so no true-transparency is going to work without a patch. That said, a patch was posted to fvwm-workers awhile back that made this work but it broke several other things (proper drawing of window borders).

  • Crystal XI with universe data sources - persistent behavior

We have been working with Crystal XI reports against universes and are faced with challenges of fully understanding how the universe/report information is kept synchronized after a report is published in BOE repository.
For example, I have a Crystal XI report that is built against a universe and has prompts against universe objects (not necessarily pre-defined universe conditions) which have associated LOVs. These universe based prompts are automatically created as static prompts in Crystal. When I run this report and run an SQL trace on the database, here are my observations:
-Report will not submit the underlying LOV SQL query to the database and use the static prompt values stored in the report at design time.
-If the underlying LOV SQL now returns values that are different than the ones stored in the report, these do not automattically get reflected in the report.
-If a universe change is made and then exported back to the BOE repository, from that point on, all refreshes of the report re-execute the LOV queries and thus get the updated prompt values which are then reflected on the report. There is a slight twist to this, the LOV queries get submitted twice, once when a report is refreshed before the prompts page is displayed and once when OK button is clicked on the prompts page along with the main report queries.
-It seems like BOE architecture compares the timestamp of the underlying universe against the time when the report was last modified and if the report was modified after the universe, the LOV queries are not executed and static prompt values saved within the report are used.
Can someone please confirm/explain Crystal persistent behavior with respect to universe objects, specially for LOV based prompts or point to technical resources that explain in detail the workings of Crystal XI reports against universe objects?
    Thanks.

    Hi Farhan,
The description which you have posted for your issue is bit confusing.
Can you please a break into the issue.
As the LOV's are created in Universe and we will get the refreshed data into your report.
We cannot create any static parameters at the report level while using universe as DataSource .
Let me know if i am wrong.
    Thanks for understanding.

    Naveen.
