Belkin 802.11g wireless USB2.0 with Snow White G3 - A question...

Will the Belkin 802.11g work with an iBook model M6497 snow white iBook running OSX 1.2? I have been hunting around the forums and net trying to find out if it would work and can't find out if it would work or not. We are on a tight budget and can't afford the current prices for the original airport card.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,

G3 iBook Model M6497   Mac OS X (10.2.x)   Burnt out Ethernet card, tight budget - any help would be great.

Looking at the accessories for Mac portables, there is no USB adapter compatible (most likely due to there being no Mac driver). The Ethernet bridge seems like the only option, though it's out of stock at the moment, but seeing that you have a non-functioning Ethernet port, I guess that'd not work very well.

  • Will 2800-400 BIOS update enable 802.11g wireless LAN?

I recently bought a Belkin 54G cardbus wireless adapter for use with my Satellite 2800-400, which has a Windows ME OS.
The setup software wouldn't install a driver, even though ME was said to be supported.
I wrote to Belkin and they told me that it was because the laptop BIOS didn't support 802.11g wireless and that I should update the BIOS. I updated to BIOS version 2 but it didn't make any difference.
I don't know if Belkin's instructions were on the right track or whether they were they just pushing the responsibility as far away from themselves as they could.
Please can anyone tell me if my laptop does support 802.11g wireless, with or without the BIOS upgrade?
    TIA
    Mike

Thanks for the reply. the notebook does support wireless LAN because I can get a 802.11b card to function OK.

Well it's done now so there may be other benefits. Not 802.11g wireless though it seems.

Thanks I'll try to find and contact a service partner.

  • Can I use an airport express to extend a Cisco E4200 802.11n or 802.11g wireless network?

Can I use an Airport Express to extend a Cisco E4200 802.11n or 802.11g wireless network?  I'd like to improve access in a dead spot with an airport express. I know I can connect this wayt for airplay, but how about extending the signal?
    Thx! ACB

Apple's "extend a wireless network" function appears to be a proprietary feature that works only with other Apple AirPort routers. As far as we know, this feature is not compatible with devices from other manufacturers.
It would be extremely unlikely that the Express could do what you want, but some things are never known until  you try.

Is there a way to make this wireless card recognized as an AirPort card under OS 10.5.8?
Currently, it does not even show up System Profiler.

Just google "Netgear WG311v3 802.11g Wireless PCI Adapter". Apparently it supports Windows OS's. You can also inquire from the manufacturer.

Sorry - I missed that from the title of your message.
The answer to that question is no - an exclusively 802.11g USB wireless adapter will not be able to connect to a Snow Base Station. I'd be surprised if this was ever an issue - I don't know of any exclusively 802.11g USB wireless adapters that work with Macs.
I suggest you avoid use of USB wireless adapters with Macs. Yes some people have used them successfully, but still more people have nothing but grief with these devices. Very, very few USB wireless adapters have any MacOS driver support in the first place.

  • Can I connect airport express 802.11g (old version) with iphone3GS?

    Hi all,
I have an airport extreme that I set up 2 years ago. It works with my computer, using itunes (although it disconnects constantly).
I'd like to set it up with my ihpone but I don't see it in the wifi settings and I don't see it in the airport utility.
I have the latest iOS5 on an iphone 3GS and the airport extreme is not the latest 802.11n but the version before that one.
Should I be able to connect the iphone to the airport extreme to stream music for example?
    thanks for your help.

Should I be able to connect the iphone to the airport extreme to stream music for example?
Although the iPhone can connect to the wireless network, provided by the AirPort Extreme, you would still need either an AirPort Express or Apple TV (performing as an AirPlay speaker) to get the stream from the Extreme to either a set of powered speakers, audio receiver, or TV to hear it.
I haven't verified it as I don't have an 802.11g Express lying around, but AirPlay (which has evolved from AirTunes) may not be fully supported. I'm sure someone who has this model Express can chime in.

  • Deskjet 460 802.11g wireless setup on Win7

    {Personal Information Removed}
There has to be someone in HP who can explain clearly how to set up a Deskjet 460 with 802.11g card in "infrastructure" mode on a router, using Win7. Surely!
The 460 was not fully supported on Win7, but Win7 has a driver which works with a USB cable. The challenge is how you get an infrastructure network profile into the 802.11g card when the tools on the Starter CD are XP-only - actually, even if they were to work on Win7, they have disappeared from the HP website, so you cannot download them.
Looking at a previous thread (http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-All-in-One-Install-Setup/Issues-with-DeskJet-460-WiFi-and-Windo...), lots of folks are as frustrated as I am, but nobody has so far answered the key question.
Before dumping XP I created a network profile on a USB stick, using the Starter CD - this was an xml file in a folder named SMRTNTKY. It was supposed to allow me to replicate the settings on other printers (or on mine if I lost the settings). Now, it is not recognised by the printer, but I have no idea why. I have cleared the profile, inserted the USB stick, powered off and on, with no change - the printout still shows the network profile as ad hoc / hpsetup.
I and others need a clearly documented process for creating an infrastructure network profile and for getting it into the printer, so we can use the device with Win7. If this needs software, we need that software to be available for download from the HP website, ideally via links from the reply (since the website is a bit of a mess to navigate. Please help.

    Hi,
Assuming you have WiFi connectivity on your laptop, try setting a temporary ad hoc connection and then use the EWS to connect the printer to your router as a workaround, such a software is not available for Windows 7:
Follow these steps to install the product on the network with the Windows 7 printer driver.
    Turn the product on.
Insert the wireless printer card into the printer.
Reset the wireless network settings on the product:
Reset all of the 802.11 wireless profiles: Press and hold the Power button ( ), press the Cancel ( ) button two times, and then press the Resume button ( ) eight times. Release all buttons.
Click the Wireless icon on your system traym then connect to the HPSETUP netowrk.
Wait two minutes for the printer to obtain an IP Address, and then print a wireless configuration page:
Make sure the product is on and idle.
Press and hold the Cancel button ( ) for more than two seconds. A wireless configuration page prints.
Locate the IP address / URL printed on this page, type it into your web browser to access its EWS page.
Open the Network / Wireless tab, click the Wireless option or the Wireless Setup Wizard and follow the steps  to connect the pritner to your router.
Press and hold the Cancel button ( ) for more than two seconds. A wireless configuration page prints. note the listed IP.
Right click the USB printer icon within Devices and printers, select Printer Properties. Within the Ports tab create a new Standard TCP/IP port and type the listed IP for this port.
Hope that help, I cannot guide you further within the EWS as I do not have the exact device but you should locate it within the networking area of the EWS

  • 802.1x Wireless Authentication with 10.8.4 Build 12E3067

    Hello All,
Work in a school and we use 802.1x authentication for Wi-Fi and access to our server and Staff wireless VLAN.  We use a login window profile that authenticates with our Active Directory.
Previous and working set up was MBA (Mid 2012) 5,1. Running OS 10.8.4 build 12E55.  This OS was downloaded from Mac App Store. Bound to domain and using authorization certificates for our active directory controllers. Created Wi-Fi 802.1x authentication profile with Profile Manager on 10.8 server.  No issue.  Units authenticate with server at user login, join Wi-Fi and mounts home folder.
New and not working set up is MBA (Mid 2013) 6,2 running OS 10.8.4 build 12E3067.  This unit will not run build 12E55, boots to prohibitory sign. Unit is set up with same certificates and 802.1x profile. When first booting up the Wi-Fi signal appears to be attached to the network, unlike previous setup when unit will Wi-Fi indicator will appear disconnected until user logs in.  90% of the time new units will not authenticate. States unable to connect to server and then loads into mobile user account.  Will not attached to Wi-Fi. There are instances when it does authenticate properly.  However logging out and then back in will cause the failure.
Also note, I have made an image of the 6,2 MBA with build 12E3067 and installed in on MBA 5,1. Same Failure happens.  This leads me to believe the issue lies in OS 10.8.4 build 12E3067.
    Troubleshooting:
-I have taken OS build 12E3067 on MBA 6,2 (failing to authenticate) and removed Wi-Fi profile. Unit authenticates over Ethernet with no issue. Add profile back and issue surfaces.
-Created new profile using profile manager and issue continues. Verified proper certificates are being used. Would the previous profile
    -Restarted domain controllers. Issue continues.
Any thoughts or questions would be appreciated.

did you find any resolution to this?  our mba- mid 2013 deployment is having a very similar problem.  We've gone through loads of troubleshooting and have yet to come to a resolution.  all our mid 2012 mba's are working fine they're 10.7.5/10.8.4 mixed.  console logs don't show much, i'll try the wireless diags tomorrow.  our other 10.8.4 build appears fine on other models of machines.  i've read posts about deleteing the adapters, deleting the system config plists and changing the mtu size, these steps do not work for us.
we don't have as high a failure rate with our deployment, but 25%-30% of our clients randomly drop connectivity and are unable to reconnect (fluttering wi-fi wave).  when you slect the wifi symbol in the menu bar other wireless networks do not show, the 'looking for networks' fly wheel continues to spin.  ocasionaly on login the yellow jelly bean will appear then disappear before finally timeing out without logging the user in (depsite having mobile accounts enabled).    mostly the problem manifests itself when waking from sleep - the wifi symbol flutters endlessly without connecting.  deleting the 8021x profile and readding it will reenable connectivity.  we've tried new profiels, but to the same end.  i know our certs and systems are fine because previous mac os x builds work fine as do our windows clients.
any input would be much appreciated.

  • 1552 in P-MP acting as 802.11a Wireless Bridge with single antenna SISO

Can you configure three Cisco 1552EUs to act as a RAP and two MAPs in a bridge only Point to Multipoint configuration.
I'd like to disable two of the 5Ghz antenna ports and use just a single TX/RX port and a single directional antenna for each AP.
Does this simply reduce the system gain because you lose the MRC MIMO advantage / gain of either 1.7 or 4.7db (depending on qty of spatial streams).
Also, are the 1552EU's backward compatible with the Cisco 1310's in the configuration mentioned above.
    Thanks for any comments.

The transfer speeds sound about right. The "54Mbps" is a signaling rate, not a throughput.
To make 802.11 wireless "reliable"  (comparable to a wired network)  the data is, in effect, sent twice and staggered such that a glitch usually doesn't get both.
In terms of throughput of your data, a strong signal with good signal quality, using IP, unencrypted  should run ~22-26Mbps (some variability for noise/interference, mixed frame sizes, TCP ACK times, application responses, etc).
So, at ~24 Mbps (megabits per second) you're looking at ~4  megabytes per second versus 100Mbps/12.5mBps as a probable max rate.
Given that, a transfer that takes approximately one minute on a wired network under typical conditions ... having it take four-to-five minutes on a typical wireless system is about right.
For power settings, you can adjust the power by monitoring the RSSI values on the receiving system. If I can find the docs on Cisco's main site I'll post 'em up later (gotta run ...), but if the mechanical install is good, then it'll just be a little keyboard work.
    Good Luck

  • Airport Express 802.11g cannot connect with OS X 10.8.3

Hi just updated my MacBook Pro to OS X to 10.8.3.  I have an older model Airport Express (802.11g) that I have been able use to set up wireless speakers via Airport Utility 5.6 and 5.6.1.  However, this most recent Mountain Lion update has rendered my Airport Express useless.  I have to restart Airport Express each time I want to try to use it, to which Airport Utility will find the device and successfully add it to my existing wifi to allow me to play music wirelessly through my speakers. The second I close my MacBook, though, everything disconnects and Airport Utility is no longer able to find my device.  The green light is steady on the Airport Express, so I know that is hooked up and working correctly.  Is there a fix for this....?  Thank you!

See if setting a static IP will correct the problem.  Step 5 in the document below will walk you through the steps.  Let me know what happens.

  • Adding 802.1x Wireless networks with a script

    Hi,
We have some new wireless networks we've set up for students to use (I work in a University). The networks use 802.1x authentication, and WPA2-Enterprise encryption. Adding Macs with various versions of OSX isn't a big issue, but it's time-consuming. Users need to follow an instruction sheet, and the process is prone to errors.
I'm looking for a method to give users some sort of download to run, which can just add the SSID for our wireless LAN with the minimum of fuss. I've dug around and found various things, but I'm a little perplexed as to how best to go around it. I've seen things suggesting an AppleScript would be able to do it, but I'm no AppleScript export, so some sort of example would be nice.
    Any pointers gratefully received.

  • Can't Config Belkin 802.11g Router

Belkin model F5D7230-4 doesn't accept any of the changes i make in set-up screens. It acts like it doesn't understand Apple keystrokes. I can select the various set-up screens, make entries, etc, but then when try to complete it with "submit", it just goes back to defaults. I've tried the 10 sec reset, etc, and I've contacted Belkin Help, but they were no help. I even cleared Safari cache. Belkin NoHelp finally said "then use a PC to configure it," but couldn't explain why, so I refused because they claim OS X compatibility. I've searched this board using "configure belkin router" and didn't find any other posts that describe similar problem. Any thoughts on why Safari might not be able to properly communicate with the router? BTW, the internet connection works fine, but unable to set any wireless security for above reasons, so I quickly disconnected it and went back to using a hardwired connection to a secure Linksys wireless b currently in use by other PCs in the house.
    PBK G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    I have the same router.
The administration web server seems to be written only for Internet Exploder under Windows. It behaves badly under Firefox and Opera for Windows and is marginally useful with Safari as long as you don't touch the wireless settings while you're actually connected via wireless.
I've been able to edit settings with Safari and Firefox under OS X, but the wireless settings are especially hard to edit using a wireless connection because the router restarts when you edit something effectively killing the wireless connection. The other browsers figure out that the connection is dead and quit trying a meta refresh to the router. IE on the other hand, is just brain-dead enough to keep trying until **** freezes over.
I can't explain why you can't edit dialog boxes, unless the browser thinks the connection is dead on a settings change and it figures allowing you to edit something is pointless.
The only selling point to this router was its early emergence on the market with WPA. That's why I bought it.

  • 802.1x Wireless Implementation with NPS - Guest computers access

    Hi guys,
I have a 802.1x network using NPS services in Windows server 2012 that I am testing right now with Windows 7 machines. Everything seems to be fine with corporate computer (connection and authentication are good). But I have an issue with guest computer (i.e
personal laptop). I am able to connect to my Enterprise wireless connection using my corporate credentials. Even if my personal laptop don't have any corporate certificate, the connection is granted because I use my credentials. Is there a way to use User
certificate AND computer certificate for wireless at the same time? So that personal laptop will not have access to the enterprise wireless network even if I enter my corporate credentials.
Let me know if you need more information.
    Thank you

    Hi,
One way to solve it would be to only allow "Domain Computers" or another computer Group in the NPS policy and then create a corresponding Group policy to only authenticate to the wireless with the computer account.
Another way would be to actually use the user certificate (instead of secured password that you are using now). That would require you to autoenroll user certificates though.
