Best approach for publishing a paid version and an ad supported free version of the same app

Hi,
One of my Windows 8 store app is almost ready for store submission.
What is the best approach for publishing a paid version and  an ad supported  free version of the same app.
Can I do the following
1. Submit the app with unlimited free trial to store
2. During the free trial ads will be displayed
3. If the user purchases the app, then the ad would not displayed
Any advise is greatly
appreciated.
Best Regards

Although the in-App purchase option is good but for ad based apps my approach is different.
I would suggest putting 2 different apps in the store, one free with Ads and one without. Reason being you want the extra reference and xaml ad controls depending upon how
many you have on the paid version of the apps. I would keep my apps as lighter and cleaner as possible specially when its a paid app.
I currently manage both free and paid app through one solution and reuse most of the code except for the views.

How do I design my posters on Photoshop touch for ipad, to be A0 and export them to creative cloud at the same size???
every time I do it it comes out at a fraction of the size and not even an A size...
    Please help

A0 is pretty big if you go at a high DPI for printing. It's about 10000 x 14000 pixels at 300 DPI.
PS Touch can handle about 12 Megapixel image imports (which is about 4000 x 3000 pixels). PS Touch, interestingly, can create 4096 x 4096 pixel projects from scratch.
Adding to that, PS Touch always exports at 72 DPI. Take note that this is probably due to tablet hardware. Tablet hardware is "getting there" but it still has a ways to go before it matches its desktop cousin.

  • Can iTunes handle multiple versions of the same app?

Now that iTunes, iOS, and iDevices have been around long enough for users to have multiple devices on multiple iOS versions, is Apple doing anything to allow users to run multiple versions of the same app through iTunes?
Case in point I have an older iPhone running iOS-5 with a few apps that are now running exclusively on iOS-7, my new iPhone is on iOS-7. Once I sync my new phone with the updated versions of the app, iTunes usually dumps the old version into the trash bin. But what if I need that older version to continue running it on my iOS-5 iPhone?
Is there a workaround for this? I've considered using an old PC as my base computer for sycning the new iPhone, but I still fear that the new app updates will go to all devices running on my iTunes account through iCloud.
If Apple doesn't address this problem at some point then as the years go by certain iDevices will eventually become completely useless even if they are a fully functional piece of electronics.
(spare me the "that's their plan, corporate greed" replies).
    Thanks in advance!

Yes, the apps SHOULD be developed to work with the new stuff, No, not all apps keep their old versions in the App Store, BUT, finally Apple has ALLOWED developers to have multiple versions of an App in the store.
The problem isn't about retarding development, it's about Apple trying to force users to buy new things that they don't need because the old thing, though it works just fine & has the apps that you need, is unable to be used because the apps have been updated in iTunes. Why can't you allow me to keep Facebook 5.0.1 for my old iPhone 3G that is used as an iPod, Facebook 6.7.2 for my iPod Touch & Facebook 19.6.4 for my new iPhone 8? As of now I can download the old version on the old device, but when I sync it it always tries to 'Update' it & then says 'Can't be updated because this version is incompatible with this device' making the sync take 3x as long & meaning that if my device crashes for some reason or I choose to restore it becasue of problems I have to go find the old version, hoping that I saved it, delete the new version, drag in the old version, THEN sync & then move the old version back before updating from my other device (Having done this with the 3G & iTouch 4 for years I learned that when the sync transfers purchases from the phone it 'replaces' the file instead of moving the old 1 to the trash).
Some of these apps I have purchased, & by forcing the update to remove the old version Apple is essentially taking something I have purchased & saying I am no longer allowed to use it.
Just in the what 3 months since the new iOS came out I have noticed that now over half of the apps can't be run on my iPod Touch 4G.
    It's simple, iTunes should either:
Keep a record of the devices that have synced (I know, it already does) & keep the newest version for the lated iOS in iTunes
Let users have multiple versions of the same app in iTunes & allow us to disable update checks for certain apps
Allow users to choose to download from iTunes the different versions of the apps available from the developer
    OR
Allow users to edit the info on Apps, unlinking them from their original & updates & allowing users to keep an old version & still download a new 1

  • I want to buy a iPad2 to go along with my mac desktop and iPhone, do I have to purchase the same apps. to put on my iPad

i want to buy a iPad2 to go along with my mac desktop and iPhone, do I have to repurchase the same apps. to put on my iPad?

You can use most of the apps that you bought for your iPhone on the iPad as well. Sometimes the apps are not optimized for the iPad's larger display. Sometimes the apps are limited to the iPhone and you must purchase a separate iPad version. As with your iPhone, Mac apps cannot be used on an iOS device.

  • Different versions of the same app on the app store

Is it possible to let users download the different versions of the same app from the App store,( even though I have not seen it but just wonder whether it is possible) ?
If not then can we have different releases of the same product with different feature set.
This question is applicable for iPhone as well.
    Thanks

Wouldn't do you any good, as you need to be a registered developer to use the forum. Just contact one of the developer's of an app you're interested in and ask the developer directly.

Also, if you sync to the same computer/iTunes library use the manual method so only checked items sync to the device

  • Submitting iPad and iPhone versions of the same app - same product ID?

I'm submitting a DPS app with both iPad and iPhone renditions today. Do I use the same product ID or different ones for the folios that I am submitting with each app?
Both renditions are the exact same content, they are free so didn't require IAP approval, so I assume they should have the same ID?

It doesn't really matter since the folios are free, but using the same Product ID for a set a folio renditions is the recommended practice.

  • Versioned deployments: how to deploy different version of the same app ?

I 'd like to deploy on a server (single instance) different versions of the same web application, say:
    webapp1.war
    webapp2.war
    webapp3.war
The wars have the same ContextRoot.
It is possible to version them with an attribute in MANIFEST.MF, but is it possible to have the N applications ACTIVE and running ? I'd like that one IP will be served from webapp1, another IP from webapp2, another IP from webapp3, etc.

It may your 'requirement' but I have serious doubts that the app review team will approve it. Save yourself the waste of time and follow my original suggestion of one app. That's the only correct 'method' (w/IAP of course) that will have a chance of success.
See the iOS Human Interface Guidelines and the App Review Guidelines before you go any further. In the case where you need 'official' guidance, consider using support event w/DTS

  • Can I uninstall previous versions of Adobe Apps in my creative cloud and still use the current 2014 versions of the same apps.

I want to stream line the amount of applications on my MAC. I currently have the CS6, CC, and CC2014 version of the Adobe applications. Can I uninstall the CS6 and CC versions and still run the CC2014 version without any issues?

Jim Fournier yes you can uninstall the previous versions.  Please see Install and update apps - https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/install-apps.html for additional details.

  • Hello, I'm having trouble twit firefox. When I open it my home page opens for a second then disappears and fire fox keeps trying to load the same page.

This problem started last night, I have uninstalled firefox and re installed it, but the same problem persists.

hello davidbutterly, it sounds like a theme or extension might be interfering here. please try launching firefox in safe mode once and see if the issue is occurring there too. in case it's working correctly, please go to firefox > addons > extensions and disable/remove any extension that look suspicious/you didn't install intentionally or that might interfere with the tab loading behaviour.

  • How many versions of the same app will Apple approve?

They have currently approved the free version but we are looking to limit features and make 2 paid versions as well.(ie. Lite, Gold Edition, Premium Edition)  It is a social organization app.

See App Store Review Guidelines for iOS Apps / 2.11
I think you'd have more luck with just one app that uses IAP to add more features.

  • How do you set up iTC for two Different versions of the same app?

I have been reading the iTC Developer Guide searching for the answer to this question, but so far I have found nothing that would help.  I plan on having a Lite and a Pro version of my app, and I may also have an iPad version as well.
I have seen some iPhone icons which differentiate these app by using a slightly different icon for the Lite and Pro versions, but how these are submitted to the app store is what I would like to know.  And, for the sake of clarity, they will be priced differently as well.
    Thanks!

Have you read the app store guidelines yet?
    App Store Review Guidelines:
    http://developer.apple.com/appstore/resources/approval/guidelines.html
Don't go on what you've seen in the store - for every example you spot, there are hundreds that didn't make it in.
As well, Apple is tightening up on reviews, etc.
Loads of discussion on this in the iOS Dev Forums, BTW

  • 2 versions of the same app

I have a script that calls Acrobat to open PDFs, save out EPS files and then close the PDF. It works fine on both an OS9 only Mac and my OSX G5.
However, on my G5 I have both Acrobat 5.0 and 6.0.2 Professional. I want the script to call Acrobat 5.0 in the background, thus leaving me use of version 6 if version 5 happens to be working away at the time (so I don't have to wait for 6 to get done before I can use it).
But every time I change the line in my script from:
    tell application "Acrobat 6.0.2 Professional"
    to:
    tell application "Acrobat 5.0"
and then save and then reopen the script in Script Editor, Script Editor has changed it back to Acrobat 6.0.2 Professional.
Is there anyway I can force the script to use Acrobat 5 and not 6 for this script?

    Hello
    Try something like this -
    (1) Copy the text of the script in question into clipboard in Script Editor.
    (2) Quit Script Editor and relaunch it.
    (3) Make new window of Script Editor and there paste the copied text.
    (4) Compile it.
To my limited experiences, Script Editor often remembers unsolicited things behind the scenes. So try quiting it once before re-compling the script.
    Hope this may help.

  • My husband and I are separated, but still using the same App Store account.  Is there any way I can create a new account but keep the apps (and, more importantly, the data in those apps)?

I have budgeting and home management apps that contain lots of data and I would like to retain these apps and the data when we split our App Store accounts.  Is there any way to do that? I don't want to have to go and buy the apps again - this includes all the kids' games that we bought on the account.

    PrettyPettyThings wrote:
Thanks.  Well I retain the data if I purchase the app again?
That depends on the app and where the app's data are stored. I think if you back up the phone, delete the app, purchase it again using your Apple ID, then restore the backup you will get your data back. But I cannot guarantee it.
