Best browser to develop for ApEx, Firefox or Internet Explorer

Greetings!
I have a simple question, which is the best web browser for doing Oracle ApEx (Applications Express)? I already know the answer, Firefox, but Firefox is blacklisted by my current employer.
My primary reason for asking such a question is to help me make a case to my company internet security officers to allow Firefox to be installed on the work stations of the ApEx developers. Currently, we are restricted to using Internet Explorer (IE 6.x) only.
The security of Firefox has been sited for not allowing it's installation or use on any computers on our corporate network. There are some who believe that IE 6.x is more secure that Firefox 3.x.
My expertise as a seasoned ApEx developer who has used both and has become a better and more efficient developer since using Firefox along with the Firebug plug-in. Firefox and Firebug allow a JavaScript debugging that is far superior to JavaScript debugging utility that is available for IE 6.x.
Please make any suggestions that may help me to present a compelling argument for allowing Firefox to be allowed on the systems of the ApEx development team members.

What other browser can I get besides Firefox or Internet Explorer?

For the past 10 revisions/updates FireFox has gotten buggier and buggier and crashes more and more. So I am looking for an alternative browser besides the pieces of crap FireFox and Internet Explorer. Any ideas?

Hi tforsberg, obviously Firefox behaves differently on your system(s) than on mine, even though we use the same OS.
Were you able to find any crash IDs?
To track down the extra Flash DLL, could you try the following: type or paste '''about:plugins''' in the address bar and press Enter. You can use Find (Ctrl+f) and search for '''npswf''' to find the Flash plugin(s) on the page. The default location is:
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash
Can you track down Flash 12 to that or a different location?
Regarding session restore, you get the best results when you exit Firefox using the menu. Either:
* "3-bar" menu button > "power" button
* File menu > Exit
If you exit Firefox by closing windows individually, or by right-clicking Firefox on the task bar and choosing Close All Windows, you might not be able to recover more than 3 or 4 windows. You can increase the number of closed windows that can be restored by changing a setting:
(1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(2) In the search box that appears above the list, type or paste '''sess''' and pause while the list is filtered
(3) You can raise these values to store more closed window and closed tab history (which then can be restored from the History menu):

Any browser is supposed to work, provided the rest of the infrastructure (Flash, Java) is up to date.
However, since FB is so prone to install/modify/alter its settings/cookies/environment, I prefer to keep mine sandboxed and access it only via a dedicated browser used for nothing else, thus minimizing the risk and exposure. I had this hotmail issue myself a while back. I Googled, scanned MS website, scanned MSN website, visited forums, couldn't figure it out. I tried Firefox and Opera and even changed the Opera mask setting from Opera to Internet Explorer. Nothing worked. My best guess was that I was signing on (with the new MSN Live as opposed to MSN Hotmail - the OLD interface) with the "Remember me on this computer?" box checked. I now make sure it is un-checked (which is not the default) and hotmail lets me in.
Not exactly sure if that is the real remedy, but thot I'd throw the story your way just in case...

I have followed instructions for importing favorites from Internet Explorer, but they do not show up in Bookmarks menu as shown in the support instructions.

I just downloaded Firefox 3.6 and followed the instructions for importing Favorites from Internet Explorer. Firefox said the import was successful, but the Favorites do not appear at the bottom of the Bookmarks menu (below "Mozilla Firefox") as shown in the Support instructions. You can usually find the imported IE Favorites in a folder ("From Internet Explorer") at the bottom of the Bookmarks Menu folder (Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks).<br />
If you can't find them in the "From Internet Explorer" folder then try this:
* Export the favorites in IE to an HTML file (bookmarks.html): File > Import and Export
* Import the HTML file in Firefox: Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Import HTML: From File

MOUSE_DOWN & MOUSE_UP events behaving strangely in firefox and internet explorer w/low framerate

Basically what I'm seeing is that in Firefox and Internet Explorer only, using the latest flash plugins for each, when the framerate in my game drops due to a large number of display objects on screen (not unexpected behavior), MOUSE_DOWN and MOUSE_UP events seem to get queued up (this probably happens whether the framerate is low or not, but it doesn't have any adverse effects when the framerate is high). Flash will try to process every click that occurs, even though it can take up to several seconds. So, for example, if the user clicks the mouse 20 times in a second, but the framerate is running at around 5 fps, the game will be reacting to those clicks for around 3-5 seconds. It doesn't ignore any of them. This causes some strage behavior in our game and is not desirable. In the standalone flash player, and in Chrome browser, a large number of clicks in a short time frame does not have the same behavior. It seems to treat the most recent click with some priority, so it will cancel out a previous click. A single click in our game will cause an object to generate a path and move to the point on screen which was clicked (think point-and-click to move a walking 2D character).
Since this behavior is so different in 2 browsers, could have something to do with how it's embedded, like the wmode parameter? That seems to be the only idea that comes up searching on Google. Is there some way in my code that I can forcibly make a new mouse_down get processed right away instead of waiting for previous events to complete?

Ya, the problem isn't that events are coming in out of order, but rather they are somehow getting triggered at an unacceptably slow rate. It's not that the events are complicated. They merely set a boolean _isMouseDown to true and false (for MOUSE_DOWN, MOUSE_UP, respectively). But if I rapidly click, and then let go of the mouse, I'll see that boolean get set true,false,true,false,etc for a few seconds after I let go of the mouse. Why does this delay exist in Firefox and IE but not Chrome or the standalone player? It's almost as if Chrome and the standalone player let events be in their own thread while IE and Firefox, the events get held up, maybe because there is only one thread to use?

Firefox, Chrome and Internet explorer are all types of Browser; for use (mainly) on the internet, other modern browsers are Safari & Opera.
Just to confuse things slightly, Windows Explorer, is the name of the software that is usually used to look at content (files & folders) on Windows PCs.

Possibly you are trying to open Firefox indirectly by selecting some link or HTML item, rather than using Firefox's start icon, or program shortcut.
By default on Windows IE is the chosen browser for many actions and you will need to change that if you wish Firefox to be the browser of default choice.

Firefox has suddenly gone wrong. I was successfully running both Firefox and Internet Explorer 8 on Windows 7. My laptop is new and has plenty of RAM and HDD. I auto-accept upgrades including the most recent Firefox upgrade and the suggested upgrade to Adobe Flash 10.1. But after this, Firefox stopped working and does not work when I re-load Firefox 3.6. Also IE8 now works very slowly and does not locate major websites like Microsoft without a 'can't find the website message' and having to pressing Return a second time. When I do get to the Mozilla website and click on the button to try to download Firefox 3.6.6, I get this message "Oops! Internet Explorer could not find mozilla3.snt.utwente.nl". Can you help with what has gone wrong? As it stands, I can't use Firefox at all. Note: because Firefox did not work after the upgrade, I've downloaded the IE8 version of the Adobe Flash 10.1. What I really want is to be able to use both Firefox and IE8. But is this possible if they use different versions of Adobe Flash?

I have been having the same problem as the original poster. After upgrading to Ffx 3.6.6, the program asks you to upgrade to Flash Player Plugin 10.1. I download and installed 10.1 only to find videos weren't loading.
In my case, the problem is the previous installation of Flash Player (9.0.47) was somehow messing things up. To fix this, because I already had Flash plugin 10.1 installed I had to uninstall 10.1 using the uninstaller from adobe and then manually remove any files related the old flash player plugin 9.0.47
Here is a run-down of my process:
0. To check if you have a previous installation of the Flash Plugin lurking around, in Firefox go to Tools -> Add-ons -> Plugins (tab). At this point you may seen both Flash plugins.
1. Proceed to uninstall Flash Plugin 10.1. Adobe provides an uninstaller here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
( you have to make sure you have nothing running when you execute the installer).
2. On my Mac (sorry I don't know what it is in Windows) I searched the hard drive for any files/folders with "Shockwave". I found a folder called "Shockwave 10". It wasn't removed by Adobe's uninstaller. For safety I deleted it and then emptied the trash.
3. I then went to My HD -> Library -> Internet Plugins.
Remove the file and folder named "Flash player.old"
4. Restarted; ran the Adobe Flash Player 10.1 installer. Restarted again.
5. Opened up ffx and double checked the plugins list (see step 1). Version 10.1 is installed and available. Went to problem sites to test it out and Success!

The first rule of thumb with misbehaving applications is to erase the Application's preferences and then try it again, but that might be somewhat dangerous considering that you could accidentally erase all of your bookmarks/favorites in the process.

Why do I see two different versions of a website on Firefox and Internet Explorer? The version on Firefox is an older version of the website.

I use Intuit to maintain a website. After I update the website, Firefox continues to display the previous version while the revised version is displayed on Internet Explorer. I have tried using both Firefox and Internet Explorer when I revise the website, but that does not appear to make any difference. The version on Firefox usually updates to the new version with in a day or two, but the change on Internet Explorer is immediate.

Try clearing your browser cache.
Tools > Clear Recent History... - hit Details and make sure only Cache is selected, then select Everything and hit the Clear Now button.

I can't tell from the screenshot, but it's possible you are running in the Metro version. Could you try this page using Internet Explorer in desktop mode to see if that helps?
