Best, export slideshow in iMovie, for online viewing

I tried exporting my 5min slideshow in iMovie using this setting:
go to>share
export using quicktime
export as: mpeg4 settings>
file format: mp4
video format: h.264
data rate: 1500 kbits/sec optimized: cd/dvd
image size: 1280x720
key frame: 12
frame rate: 12
video options>
restrict profile to: main
encoding mode: best
~
So far, this is good file size for online uploading, and good quality. Good enough. But there are still color issues, like some color blotching, and color transitioning, and the quality of the photos in the imovie when exported is not as good as when I view the slideshow in imovie. It's very important that the quality of the photos remain top quality as this for fine art photography promotion.
If you have any ideas how to export slideshows from imovie, in top quality, please reply. This is for online viewing, to be uploaded in free-hosted sites like youtube, facebook, multiply, etc. I am aware that youtube and facebook have HD options for video viewing. I need someone's help. Thanks.

Yes, I did. Not so good. The settings I mentioned above is actually the best I've tried so far.

  • Best export settings in iMovie for later import to iDVD

    Hello,
I've created a few iMovie projects that I've put on DVD using the Share To iDVD option.
I have a few different projects that I want to put on one DVD. What are the best export settings in iMovie to create files that I can later import using iDVD?
    Cheers

I would sugest using the Apple defaults - which you will get if you use SHARE/Export Movie.
It is possible to infinitely tweak the parameters by using SHARE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME, but in my experience, you are not likely to visibly improve quality. However, you might be able to get more compression(i.e. a smaller file size) at nearly the same quality.
However, there is no harm in experimenting if you like.
You should use Movie to QuickTime Movie. Click Options. Generally, set the video codec to h.264. If space is not an issue, you can use Apple Intermediate Codec instead, but only if you are going to edit the movie some more. For a final movie, use h.264.
For frame rate, use automatic or 24 frames, but you can use fewer and see if it imporves quality.
For bit rate, you can use up to 20 Mbps, but 16Mbps is the highest I have gone, and that results in a very large file. With h.264, you can get good results with 10 or even lower. (Note: 10 Mbps = 10,000 Kbps)

  • Best way to load movies for online viewing?

    Hey everybody,
I'm creating an interactive module in which I want to display
several videos. There are 11 different sections to this module, and
most of them have a video that I'd like to play in that section. So
I was just wondering what might be the best way to do this? I
figure importing them into the flash file so they are all in the
swf will make the file much too big. Does anybody know any good
tutorials or have any good advice for this situation?
    Thanks!

    Hi Atul,
I think the first option is ther better because,
    1. if you put the filter in dtp, it will get the data from the source based on this criteria.
    2. if you filter in start routine, then all records are extracted and then it will perform filter option. So avoid second option.
and about the third option - can you please explain me clearly what exactly you want to do.
    Thanks,
    Prashanth.

  • Absolute best "export" choice in iMovie 9

OK, I admit I am a techno-tard. I am getting AWFUL output quality of my video after I edit in iMovie, it is pixelated, blurry, just horrendous. What is the absolute BEST export choice. there are so many options, compressor, depth, quality, frame rate, key frame rate, data rate, filter. any help would be most welcome. MY imported file is a DV file resolution 720x576, encoder dvvideo, frame rate 25 fps, bitrate 9000. thank you in advance....I feel like shooting myself in the head the output quality is so terrible. does final cut pro do this Sh%^#?

THis is a bit more complex perhaps. This is all surgical video taken with an endoscopic camera (will have to fing the settings) It burns teh films as mpeg I then convert to mp4 or DV and then import to iMovie for editing. once done I convert to WMV for presentations. maybe I am converting too much but the converted mp4 or DV filed from the mpeg look beautiful when I play in quicktime. it is only when I edit and export on iMovie that the quality looks AWFUL no matter what output seetings I use. Thank you for any help

  • Exporting slideshows on Imovie '09 vs Imovie '11 question.

I made several slideshows using Imovie '09 and when I exported them at a 1080p size on my desktop, the size of the downloaded .mov files were between 107MB and 125MB.  I upgraded to Imovie '11 and I've made a similar slideshow and when I download it at a 1080p size on my desktop, the size of the .mov file is over 700MB.  I then downloaded one of my previous slideshows that had downloaded at a size of 125MB and it downloaded at a size over 500MB using I'movie '11.  I like to download my slideshows to Itunes or facebook, but they are now too large to download.  Am I doing something wrong?  Should I go back to Imovie '9?
    Thanks,
    Larry

When one exports there are several things that are used to decide the size of the final product. I think that 1080P only speaks to the dimensions, but probably, if you look at both slideshows in quicktime inspector, you will see that the data rates are really different.
A data rate of 300 kbts second will have a smaller file size, but the quality will be low.
A date rate of 2000 kbts second will have a much larger file size, but look nicer.
It has nothing to do with the version of iMovie you are using.
Do a custom export and play around with the settings.

  • Export Cube to .EIF for Model View

I am using Analytical Workspace Manager 10g, version 10.2.0.3.0A and I have a very large AW. I would like to export one cube and its associated data for a specific month. I have attempted to limit the cube to the specific month and export the +..._STORED+ object using the Export ..._STORED to eif file 'xxx.eif' command however, when I import this eif file into a new AW it can only be viewed in Object View. When I try and change to Model View I recieve the error Unable to Attach to Analytic Workspace ...
I have also tried performing an export through the GUI by trying to export a specific dimension first. Since I do not want to export the entire AW I listed the specific objects I wish to export such as: ACCT, ACCT_HIERLIST, ACCT_HIERLIST_SURR, ACCT_LEVELLIST, ACCT_LEVELLIST_SURR. After importing this .EIF file I receive the same results as above, unable to switch to Model View with the error Unable to Attach to Analytic Workspace ...
How do I export a specific cube for a specific month in AWM to be viewed in Model View? I wish to create a separate AW for this cube for troubleshooting purposes.
    Thanks,
    Kristine

10g AWs contain many 'metadata objects', such as ALL_DIMENSIONS and DIM_ATTRIBUTES. If you don't include these objects in the EIF file then AWM will be unable to read the metadata. So in principle you could add all these metadata objects, with appropriate limits, to your export list and everything would work. In practice, however, you will inevitably miss some objects, take other objects you don't need, and include too many dimension members. For example you would export ALL_CUBES, which would then list cubes whose variables you didn't export.
So you could try something like this.
    1) Generate the XML Template for the original AW and use it to recreate an empty copy of the AW in some other schema
    2) Export the dimensions and variables you are interested from the original AW into an EIF file, 'one_month.eif' say
    3) Import the EIF into the new AW. You should probably specify the DATA option to IMPORT so that you don't modify existing definitions.
    CDA 'MY_DIR'
IMPORT ALL FROM EIF FILE 'one_month.eif' DATA
I don't know if it will work, but it seems worth trying. I hope someone else on the forum has done this before and has an easier solution.

  • Getting the best quality out of iMovie for Photo Slideshows

Hi, Finally I got my iMac the other day and have been playing around and trying to get the best out of it and was hoping to get some help from here. I have been playing with ilife on a friends mac for a while but never had a go in anger and now need some proper answers. Its quite simple. I create photo dvd slideshows and need to find the best way to do it. As far as I can tell there are a few ways. I can use imovie to get the running order - add the Ken Burns effects (that I DO need) - add music - add transitions and "share" to a .mov file and drag this into iDVD to put a menu on. Ok - this works but I get some MPEG artifacts (I know this is to be expected - I have been doing this for years on a PC). I can drag photos into iDVD but as far as I can tell I cannot have Ken Burns so this is out. I can use iPhoto to make a .mov file and again import this into iDVD. Am I missing something here? iMovie08 seems great and the .mov file is good enough quality to re-render in iDVD without losing too much quality so I guess this is the way to go but is there no way to go without rendering the .mov file and then going into iDVD? I have also used iMovie06 before and it had better transitions between photos - have these been lost in iMovie08?? I have set the quality in iMovie08 to "Profesional" but there stil seems to be a bit of artifacting. Should I try Toast?
Apologies for the long post but am really keen to get this sorted. I have posted before on here and got great responses but just want to get it right 100% before putting lots of effort in. I have next week off work to perfect the photos to DVD slideshow before I start to try to sell these things! many many thanks.Ben

    Hi,
Many thanks for the post. It seems to be that iDVD is giving me the render quality issues. I am going to try toast to see what thats like. Thanks for the help with imovie06. I have been using it but it has a bug when you fade music out so cannot use it unfortunately!

  • What's the best way to save clips for general viewing on the web?

I am new to iMovie, but not to Macs or file formats.
I have taken some video of kittens at a local cat shelter, hoping to post the clips at the shelter's website in efforts to get the kittens adopted.
I managed to work through iMovie myself, saving the clips so that the person responsible for the website can post them. I first saved them as .mov files - the web person can view them, but others cannot. (They are all using IBM-compatibles) She is trying to get them to launch from an html page. So I tried saving them as .wmv files, but the little fade-outs I placed at the ends of the clips were truncated... the fade-ins were there, but not the fade-outs.
The video started out very good quality, and I would like to retain as much of that quality as possible, while of course keeping them small and manageable. But first of all, I need the web person to be able to post them, and then need everyone to be able to view them.
Am I asking too much, given there are so many ibms out there?

you ask for a solution of a very common problem: the universal video format...
due to sheer market power, .avi and .wmv are the most used standards.
avi is just a container, little supported on Mac; you can choose it as an export option in iM, but it offers just a few compressors (dv/bmp = nice looking, but large, cinepak=small but ugly...)
for export to .wmv, you need, as mish mentioned, to buy a plug-in from flip4mac, we do read enthusiastic responses on that product... but, Mac-users need additional software to read these files (the free plug-in from flip4mac or the free wmv player for Mac from Microsoft)
RealPlayer needs costly encoders, and again special players...
a nice option is .flv, flash-video... needs investment into FlashMX, $$$$ or shareware as VisualHub...
finally, which works for me and my few PC friends, is usage of mp4... without .mov container; choose "mpeg4" in the expert options... your friend has to open that file once in Windows MediaPlayer manually once and save it again, to get rid of some meta-data "Quicktime needed" (which isn't true)... some PCs open these mp4 by double-click, some PCs demand for QT4Windows.. but, as said, manually (open dialog from within WMP) these mp4s are compatible..
better pic results are earned with that little free app iSquint, I LOVE to recommend, it has an excellent algorithm...
sorry, lots of tech blabla... difficult issue...
    helpful?

  • Best export from FCP4.5 for conversion to Flash video player?

    Hi,
I'm prepping a 5 min edit production for the best web presentation w/o excessive file size / loading time. The production has a lot of subtle detail & layered images so there a lot of opportunities for this to turn to mud (shot on low grade digital consumer video camera & also in lower light settings).
I exported in H264 at med quality & got a good looking 75 meg file. Tried uploading to YouTube, fearing the worst, and it actually created something decent from that file. I could just link that embedded file to the intended website, but I dont want that YouTube logo in the corner. I'd rather recreate what they do in Flash w/o the logo.
Does anyone have info on what YouTube does to the videos it processes into those flash video player files? Compression or resolution settings? It looks like going that route will give better results that can be universally viewed than the standard mpeg route. (file size & universal viewing on all platforms are my only reason not to post in H264).
Are these issues best solved going from a big FCP export and handled with settings in Flash? Or is there some export choice in FCP that will give best (size & res) quailty with minimal influence needed from Flash?
I've tried Compressor but havent been able to get any results from it. I just get errors that I dont understand. If thats the solution, I'll dig into that further, but would appreciate any tips / guidance.
    thanks

You could try Sorenson 3 at 640x480. Try a quality setting of about 80 percent.

  • Export SD from iMovie for editing in CS3

I'm surprised I haven't found more about this here, on videohelp, and on the apple forums.
SD DV captured in iMovie and edited. The person finishing the DVD is on PC. (I'm neither of the two people.)
My advice to the client is to finish the project on the system it is started on. But I would like to have a better idea of the options.
What is the recommendation as to format from iMovie? If quicktime what settings?
I don't know yet, but let's assume iMovie 06. (iMovie 08 apparently kills SD.)

    Stanley,
Just a guess, but unless the Mac is also running Windows, I would suspect that they will not have any .AVI output options - only flavors of .MOV.
I've had pretty good luck Importing .MOV files into PP. Do not know all of the variations, so some .MOV's might work fine, and others not so well.
If the PC has QT-Pro installed, about any real .MOV (not some tricked up special CODEC version), should be able to be converted (Export) to DV-AVI with MS DV CODEC.
Sorry that I cannot give you hard-fast rules, as I do not have a Mac, and have not directly Imported anything that I know came from iMovie. Maybe I have, but just did not know it.
Still, my advice would be to finish in iMovie on Mac. However, some clients want to do things the hard way. If they are headed in that direction, I'd suggest not doing too much trimming in iMovie and adding no Transitions. This would allow for tighter editing and Handles, when on the PC. Just Exporting the raw Capture footage would probably be best, then use QT-Pro to convert to DV-AVI Type II for editing on the PC.
Let us know how it goes and any pitfalls that occur. I, for one, can always learn about X-platform exchange of Assets and what works best.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Exporting an hdv sequence for sd viewing

can anyone advise on how best to export an HDV sequence (using compressor and dvdsp) for standard definition viewing?
i would be interested in hearing suggestions for both (a) letterboxing and (b) cropping in on the sides. thank you.
    danny

Though I'm woefully underqualified to step in for Jerry, what you're experiencing is one of those oddities about working in Native HDV - a standard definition DVDSP project will not accept it.
(And this qualifies as 'odd' because the same DVDSP project would accept the footage if it's Apple Intermediate Codec, a format that I suspect Jerry prefers and uses normally)
There is much debate about how to achieve the best quality conversion from HDV -> SD DVD without spending the 25+ hours that Compressor 2.x would take to do a proper format conversion. The most discussed of these workarounds is The Bonsai Solution™, so give that a shot and see how that works out for you.

  • Uploading an IMovie for web viewing

Each week I video tape my grandaughter's hockey game. About 12.5 gig. What do I have to do to get it onto a website so that the players could log on and view a game?

In iMovie, if you "Share" and choose "Web" that will make a nice sized movie for Web consumption. If you have .mac, you can even create a webpage automatically as well (using iWeb depending on what version of iLife you have).

Measure is an add-on for Excel and not a board for generic questions. You should repost to someplace more appropriate (i.e. LabVIEW or Instrument Control).

Put me on hold and then deleted the BToneID (I found out by the email that I received whilst on hold)without warning me, then after being on hold for ten minutes the line went disconnected.
