Best GPU for AE?

Hi folks. As the title says, I'm searching to upgrade my GPU. The one that came with my Mac Pro is ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024 MB, and I wanted to change it from the beggining, but just now opportunity came.
I'm really confused by all reviews, reading, forums online, and I must say I'm not really good at all this technical stuff. I was thinking about Nvidia Quadro K4000, and GTX690. Somewhere I read that first one is professional one, and GTX is gaming one. What does that mean for AE? What does it mean for 3D apps? Will I make a mistake if I buy GTX? A lot of questions really... If someone could shed some light here, that would be great.
My budget is ranging from $1000-$1500
I'm using AE CS5.5, but probably plan to use CS6 or CC in the future. But, my primary AE is CS5.5 for now.

I would ignore the GPU.
Spend your money on RAM, CPUs, fast disks (especially SSDs). Only after you have maxed those out should you even think about the GPU for After Effects. It is nearly irrelevant in comparison with these other factors.

What BIOS level is your PC running? Your PC should be running a version 8 BIOS. Please confirm.
The specifications for your PC indicate a 300 watt power supply. Please confirm.
Without a bigger power supply, the NVIDIA GTX 750 TI models that don't require an auxillary PCI-E six pin power connector would be your best option.

How to use the GPU for calculations?

Hello everybody,
I am working on a project at the Ruhr-University, where i have to determine the calculation speed of ActionScript, e.g. in calculating MD5 Hash values.
Is it possible to use the GPU for the calculation? It would be the best, when i can use the GPU and the CPU for the calculations.
I already know that ActionScript is running on the CPU und the GPU is used for video rendering.
Is there a chance to use specifically the GPU for the calculation?

Bootcamp gpu for Mac Pro 1,1

Hi all
Looking for a good Windows only bootcamp gpu for Mac Pro 1,1.
Anyone one have any ideas for a windows gaming gpu that will work well?
Dont need to get latest if the Mac Pro 1,1 slot is limited, but would like to get a better card for Windows games.
Price is not really a problem, more just dont want to spend more if the Mac Pro 1.1 is slot limited.

What do you want to use the pc vid card for? Gaming?
If you don't need the best of the best you can get, perhaps just grabbing an apple 4870 might work best.
The $350 might be a little steep, but it might be worth it as you can good graphics in not only windows but mac as well.
You could sell your 1900xt to off-set the price. And then just keep the 7300gt just in case.

Graphics card replacement: PCI-X or AGP? What's the best GPU out there?

I want to upgrade 2 Dual G5 (2.0 and 2.5 GHz, both Dual Processors, not the newer Dual Core). Mactracker says that both have 1 AGP and 3 PCI-X Slots. Currently both Macs have the stock ATI Radeon 9600 XT with 128 MB VRAM in the AGP-Slot.
Now I'm wondering which replacement GPU gives the best "bang for buck" and whether I should go with an AGP or PCI-X model? I don't need 4 monitors so the old GPUs will be removed. What do you think is the fastest available GPU for these G5?

The ATI X800XT or the Geforce 6800 Ultra are the two top guns in OEM graphics cards for 8x AGP G5's. This page shows relevant data and performance of the top performance cards that have been available for the G5.
However, all are very hard to find, with OEM cards bringing a premium price. Flashed PC cards (converted to Mac ROM) of equivalent spec/family, will operate as a true Mac card, though none will have ADC ports.
The top gun of all the 8x AGP cards that can be used in the G5, is the Geforce 7800 GS.
These cards are available on eBay, or you can flash your own, using the tools/resources at The Mac Elite.

The Best Mac For Gaming

Hi Everyone. I'm sure this topic has come quite a bit, so I'll try to make as short to the point as I can.
Basically, I have a 2008 black MacBook, and I have recently have gotten into computer gaming. It turns out that my graphic card is horrible for gaming, and I cannot upgrade it.
Of course, I still want to stick with Macs, so I'm thinking about getting an entire new Mac, and I have a few specific questions.
Is it better to get a new Mac, or is there some way to upgrade my current Mac that I do not know about?
If I must get a new one, out of all the Macs, which one is the best for gaming (except the Mac Pro cause that is to expensive)?
Is there speculation of any new Macs coming out in the near future? Basically, should I wait to get a new one?
Currently, I'm thinking about getting the 13' MacBook Pro sometime in the next month or so before the student discount goes out.

Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Currently the best Mac with the exception of the Mac Pro is the i7 iMac. It offers the most processing power and most powerful GPU. That would probably be your best bet as your current machine with the exception of maxing out the RAM and installing a different HD is about all you can do. The i7 iMac once configured is also not upgradeable with the exception of the RAM. If you want upgradeability and power the Mac Pro is the only Mac alternative.
BTW per the Terms of Use in these forums we cannot speculate on new Apple products or their decisions on current products. You can find the TofU directly to your right.
While the 13" MBP is a fine machine it's not really considered the best alternative for gaming, if you want a MBP rather than an iMac then your best bet is probably a i5 15" MBP.

Best practices for setting up users on a small office network?

I am setting up a small office and am wondering what the best practices/steps are to setup/manage the admin, user logins and sharing privileges for the below setup:
Users: 5 users on new iMacs (x3) and upgraded G4s (x2)
Video Editing Suite: Want to connect a new iMac and a Mac Pro, on an open login (multiple users)
All machines are to be able to connect to the network, peripherals and external hard drive. Also, I would like to setup drop boxes as well to easily share files between the computers (I was thinking of using the external harddrive for this).

When you install AD DS in the hub or staging site, disconnect the installed domain controller, and then ship the computer to the remote site, you are disconnecting a viable domain controller from the replication topology.

Unlikely. Based on the complete lack of detail of the issue provided it is entirely possible the same issue would occur.
Unless and until the user provides some actual details of the problem, there is nothing the indicate that the issue is with the iPhone.

A best practice question:
The situtation: I have several product categories (110), several items in those categories (4000) and 300 end-users. I would like to know which is the best practice for segment the catalog. I mean, some users should only see categories 10,20 & 30. Other users only category 80, etc. The problem is how can I implement this ?
My first idea is:
1. Create 110 Procurement Catalogs (1 for every prod.category). Each catalog should contain only its product category.
2. Assign in my Org Model, in a user-level all the "catalogs" that the user should access.
Do you have any idea in order to improve this ?

Your way of doing will work, but you'll get maintenance issues (to many catalogs, and catalog link to maintain for each user).
The other way is to built your views in CCM, and assign these views to the users, either on the roles (PFCG) or on the user (SU01). The problem is that with CCM 1.0 this is limitated, cause you'll have to assign one by one the items to each view (no dynamic or mass processes), it has been enhanced in CCM 2.0.
My advice:
-Challenge your customer about views, and try to limit the number of views, with for example strategic and non strategic
-With CCM 1.0 stick to the procurement catalogs, or implement BADIs to assign items to the views (I experienced it, it works, but is quite difficult), but with a limitated number of views

What is the best practice for securing web services which are part of a larger service (a business process) and are defined through BPEL?
They are all deployed on the same oracle application server.
Defining agent for each?
Gateway for all?
BPEL security extension?
The top level service that is defined as business process is secure itself through OWSM and username and passwords, but what is the best practice for security establishment for each low level services?

It doesnt matter whether the service is invoked as part of your larger process or not, if it is performing any business critical operation then it should be secured.
The idea of SOA / designing services is to have the services available so that it can be orchestrated as part of any other business process.
Today you may have secured your parent services and tomorrow you could come up with a new service which may use one of the existing lower level services.
If all the services are in one Application server you can make the configuration/development environment lot easier by securing them using the Gateway.
Typical probelm with any gateway architecture is that the service is available without any security enforcement when accessed directly.
You can enforce rules at your network layer to allow access to the App server only from Gateway.
When you have the liberty to use OWSM or any other WS-Security products, i would stay away from any extensions. Two things to consider
The next BPEL developer in your project may not be aware of Security extensions
Centralizing Security enforcement will make your development and security operations as loosely coupled and addresses scalability.

Best practice for multi-language content in common areas

I've got a site with some text in header/footer/nav that needs to be translated between an English and Spanish site, which use the same design. My intention was to set up all the text as content to facilitate. However, if I use a standard dialog with the component's path set to a child of the current page node, I would need to re-enter the text on every page. If I use a design dialog, or a standard dialog with the component's path set absolutely, the Engilsh and Spanish sites will share the same text. If I use a standard dialog with the component's path set relatively (eg path="../../jcr:content/myPath"), the pages using the component would all need to be at the same level of the hierarchy.
It appears that the Geometrixx demo doesn't address this situation, and leaves copy in English. Is there a best practice for this scenario?

I'm finding that something to the effect of <cq:include path="<%= strCommonContentPath + "codeEntry" %>" resourceType ...
works fine for most components, but not for parsys, or a component containing a parsys. When I attempt that, I get a JS error that says "design.path is null or not an object". Is there a way around this?
