Best method for BITS(Background Intelligent Transfer Service) deployment

Hi,
What is the best method for BITS(Background Intelligent Transfer Service) deployment for over 2000+ Windows 2008 servers at once? Also, does it matter on Windows 2008\2008 R2\2012 if the SCCM agent is installed before we deploy BITS to the servers?
Thanks,
Eric

What do you mean by Deploy BITS to the servers? The BITS client should already be installed on then as it is native to the OS.

  • BITS - background intelligent transfer service - question - Win 7

    Hi,
I have created a script to configure the startup type for the windows services during the OSD TS
I was able to set the startup type for all services to atuo/manual/disabled - except for BITS
it needs to be set as automatic however no matter how I do it the service is always set to Automatic (Delay start)
But the script works and BITS is set to Automatic when I run the script manaully after the installation is completed
    Has anyone experience this problem?
this is how I configure the service:
    sc config BITS start= auto
    and powershell script:
Get-Service -displayName "Background Intelligent Transfer Service" | Set-Service -StartupType automatic
    Thanks

What is the matter with you Jason?  And Torsten for that matter.  What a bunch of inane, unhelpful crap.
Hey Jason, ever worked with NIST?  USGCB?  DISA?  Contract compliance and common sense security concern determines how services start in Windows, not someone from MS product development.  How laughable.
My BITS service must be set to Manual or Disabled.  Problem is, despite the group policy, my TS boxes are starting to revert to Automatic (Delayed Start).  I have no idea how this is happening.  A gpupdate fixes it, but these
boxes restart every night and re-process ALL policy ever ~90 minutes, so how the change is being made is a complete mystery.
Of course I scour the inter-verse and find a thread on the subject, but Jason and Torsten have combined their powers to make the thread useless, devoid of information, and annoying to read.
    Congratulation Jason and Torsten.

  • The network bandwidth for Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS)

I use BITS in Powershell script to download files from Internet. The download speed is 1mb or lower. I tried set 2mb in the following local policy but not working. the reason could be the policy is not for Windows 7. Anyone has suggestion?
    Thanks.
Computer Configuration | Administrative Templates | Network | Background Intelligent Transfer Services (BITS) | Limit the maximum network bandwidth for BITS background transfers

    Hi,
The following policies are supported in Window 7
Computer Configuration | Administrative Templates | Network | Background Intelligent Transfer Services (BITS) |Set up a maintence schedule to limit the maximum network bandwidth used for BITS Background transfers
or Set up a work schedule to limit the maximum network bandwidth used for BITS Background transfers
    see this link
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/wmi/archive/2011/02/02/bits-more-flexible-bandwidth-limit-policies.aspx
And download speed is also related with your network connection, your ISP, setting in your router, your system perfrormance...

  • Background Intelligent Transfer Service Consuming the Bandwidth

    Greetings,
I have a server running win 2012 R2 essential version, I found out that my download is always maxed out 3 GB per day.
I've stopped the BITS services and suddenly my download indicator is almost 0, I disable the BITS services than i found out it got automatically enable and my download indicator back to full. apparently some other dependency or script is enabling
    this services
    Questions:
how to prevent the BITS services from automatically run
is it advisable to stop it all the time
what is it downloading or updating
what to do if we have a consumption limit
N.B: I have as well disabled the windows update service.
    Regards,
    Charbel

    Hi Charbel,
Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) transfers files (downloads or uploads) between a client and server
and provides progress information related to the transfers. You can also download files from a peer. Transfers files in the background using idle network bandwidth. BITS is most commonly used by Windows to download updates to your local system.
    à
I disable the BITS services than i found out it got automatically enable and my download indicator back to full.
Did you open Event Viewer and check if find any relevant event of this
    Background Intelligent Transfer Service?
Please refer to following article and check if can help you.

  • Best method for 3D background?

    Hey, everyone. Happy Monday.
I've got a job I need to do where I'm going to take a vector graphic I have and orbit around it in 3D space. I'll have two text objects as well. I know how to work the camera in 3D space in Motion, however I'm curious what more experienced users recommend for a background. I don't want to use a 2D background (footage, etc) because it won't move in the 3D space with the camera.
So in a real 3D animation application, I'd put the scene inside a sphere and as the camera moves around inside that, the texture applied to the sphere would move around perfectly. Motion doesn't support true 3D polygons, so I was thinking about creating a background of planes, maybe build a box or hexagon out of them.
What about the texture of the planes? Can you apply a generator on those and have it move a bit?
Anyway, I'm going to go through some tutorials on 3D, but if anyone has some quick tips, I'd appreciate.
    Thank you for your time.
    Scot

There's a couple of ways you can go about this... and "ecliptic" background, or a spherical. The ecliptic view would basically line up a series of rectangular objects around an equator/circle; and it depends on your camera movement if you're going to be including altitude in your camera movement. There's not a lot of difference in the two, so I'll go with the spherical:
Use whatever generator you going to use: color solid, clouds, etc... the default size will be whatever your project size is.
    Replicate the object.
In Inspector > Replicator, check 3D (and convert to a 3D project by adding a camera if not already done.)
    Set Shape > Sphere
          Arrangement > Outline
Go down to Cell Controls and check Align Angle (it helps to set the opacity of the generator down to about 25% while you set this up...)
Adjust Radius to give you the universe you need... and add Rows and Columns to fill in the spaces. (you can also apply Cell Controls > Scale to manage the size and proportions of the generators.)
Another cool thing you can do is knock a hole in the universe:
Go down to the opacity gradient and select the white swatch, and for the Interpolation, switch to Constant. Move down the gradient bar some and add another swatch (click on the gradient bar) and set the color to Black (or whatever shade of gray for partial transparency.
    That should get you started...

  • Background Intelligent Transfer stopping - windows 8

Installing anumber of critical updates recently has messed up my laptop. At first internet explorer wouldn't load, but kept asking to reset connection. I ran system restore and a registry clea-up, which was set to run automatically by Norton Utilities. Now
I can't install the Windows Updates anymore - even though it is set to run automatically. Emails, sent via theWindows 8 App are returned with delivery failiure, Internet explorer isn't working but other browsers do. running the troubleshooters, I found out
that that Windows Update depens on a BIT Service, Background Intelligent Transfer, currently in the state of 'stopping'. I can't, with the administrative tools neither start or stop and restart this service. Please give me some suggestions,  my computer
will be rendered unuseable soon as it won't install any updates for any programmes, it seems, also the Norton antivirus database. My next step to solve this would be the' Refresh your system' option, but to be honest, I have no idea if it will help, as system
restore didn't work and also won't create any restore points now and neither does the backup utility . I suppose, I would loose all the Windows updates and installed software on my laptop.

  • Best practice for simply invoking a web service

    Hello,
We have web services deployed and accessible as wsdl documents in the SOA service manager/UDDI product. What is the best practice for simply calling a web service method deployed without regard to whether it is deployed on Tomcat, WebSphere, Oracle, etc.
I'd just like to create a java client to make a web service call and JAXRPC has me confused because you seem to have to have custody of the web service implementation code to call a service. Can someone point me in the right direction?

  • When bouncing- what's best method for smallest file size/highest quality?

I am in the process of embedding 3 mp3's into a PDF to submit as a portfolio. The PDF also has text, and two scores included, and with the 3 embedded mp3's it can't be more than 10mb.
So my question is: When bouncing a project out of Logic, what is the best method for getting the smallest file size, but retaining the best audio quality? And once it's out of Logic and it is an mp3 or other type of audio file, is there a best format for compressing it further, and still maintaining the relative quality?
I bounced out the three projects into wav's. Now I am using Switch for Mac to compress them down to smaller Mp3's. I basically need them to be about 3 mb each. Two of the recordings sound OK at that size, but they are just MIDI(one project is piano and string quartet, the other is just piano- all software instruments. The recording that combines MIDI and Audio and has more tracks (three audio tracks and 10 Midi/software instrument tracks)and sounds completely horrible if I get it under 5 mb as an mp3. The problem is that I need all three to equal around 9mb, but still sound good enough to submit as a portfolio for consideration into a Master's program.
If anyone can help I would really appreciate it. Please be detailed in your response, because I am new to logic and I really need the step by step.
    Thank you...

The highest bitrate that falls within your limits. You'll have to calculate how big your MP3's can be, then choose the bitrate that keeps the size within your limit. The formula is simple: bitrate is the number of kilobits per second, so a 46 second stereo file at 96 kbps would be 96 x 46 = 4416 kbits / 8* = 552 kBytes or 0.552 MB. (*8 bits = 1 Byte)
So if you know the length of your tracks you can calculate what bitrate you need to keep it within 10 MB total.
I consider 128 kbps the lowest bearable bitrate for popsongs and other modern drumkit based music. Deterioration of sound quality is often directly related to the quality of the initial mix and the type of instruments used in it. Piano(-like) tones tend to sound watery pretty quickly at lower bitrates, as do crash and ride cymbals. But don't take my word for it, try it out.
And once it's out of Logic and it is an mp3 or other type of audio file, is there a best format for compressing it further, and still maintaining the relative quality?
You can only ZIP the whole thing after that, but that is just for transport. You'll have to unzip it again to use it. And no, you cannot compress an MP3 any further and still play it.
I bounced out the three projects into wav's. Now I am using Switch for Mac to compress them down to smaller Mp3's.
That is silly, you could have done that in Logic, which has one of the best MP3 encoders built in. And how good encoders are will especially come out at bitrates around or below 128, which you might be looking at.
I basically need them to be about 3 mb each.
So, one more scrap of info we need here: how long are those three pieces, exactly? I'll calculate the bitrate for you - but please bounce 'm directly out of Logic as MP3's. They will very probably sound better than your WAV-conversions made with Switch.

Length of the piece? And does the .Wav bounce you have sound OK?

  • Question: Best method for mounting drives at log-in time?

I would like to know what others consider the best method for mounting drives at log-in time is? I can see a few methods such as start-up items on the client, start-up items on the server to managed users and possibly a start-up script. One wrinkle in the scenario is that users can log-in directly to the server so the method should allow that to happen gracefully. Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi Bigsky,
You are asking some really fundamental questions that require quite a lot of explanation. Luckily Apple has some great documentation on their server software.
You will be able to find your answers here by diggin in a bit:

  • Best Method for transferring projects back and fourth

Hello. I will soon be purchasing an iMac for home use and would like to get some advice on project transfer. I will be doing a lot of video editing back and fourth between the office and home. What is the best method for doing this? Where can i locate the files to make sure that I have everything and wont be missing anything when I bring it home, etc. Thanks for any advice!
    Brandon

Use a (Firewire 800 or faster) external HD to keep your media, events and projects on.
You can then take the drive to work with you and back home. Use FCP X to transfer (or create) the event and projects on this drive and both macs will recognise it.
The drive must be formatted Mac OS Extended (journaled is not important for video drives).

  • Best method for networking with ubuntu linux

    Hi,
I'm setting up an ubuntu linux fileserver, and I was wondering what the best method for filesharing with my mac is. I'm currently running osx 10.4.11, though I may be upgrading to 10.5 soon. I'll be running SMB networking for a couple of other computers, but I'd prefer something a bit more robust that can handle file permissions etc.

Mac OS X supports NSF out of the box. Configuration isn't documented.
I recall Apple got rid of net info manager in Leopard, so the configuration will be different. Perhaps more unix like.
Mac OS X support the Unix Network File System (NFS). However, it leaves out
    the GUI.
This page show you how to use NetInfo Manager:
    http://mactechnotes.blogspot.com/2005/09/mac-os-x-as-nfs-server.html#c1168221713 40271068
NFS Manager can both setup NFS shares and connect to NFS shares.
    http://www.bresink.com/osx/NFSManager.html
Once you figure out how NFS Manager configures the NFS shares, you can
use Applications > Utilities > NetInfo Manager to create more shares.
You will either have to coordinate Unix Userid number and Unix Group Id number or use the mapall option on the share.
To find out your Mac OS X userid and group id do:
    applications > utilities > terminal
    ls -ln
    ls -l
    # lists the NFS share on your mac
    showmount -e localhost
#list NFS shares on a remote host
    showmount -e remote-ip-address
Once you see what NFS Manager does, you will be able to use NetInfo Manager to manage a connection. In Mac OS 10.4 you can configure the /etc/exports control file. See man exports for the details. Before that you had to have the data in NetInfo manager. When Mac OS X came out, many common Unix control files were not present. Instead the data had to be in NetInfo manager. Over time Apple has added more and more standard Unix control files.
    ======
You do know about the need to match userids & groupids.
    # display uid and gid
    ls -ln
    sudo find / -user short-user-name -exec ls '-l' {} \;
    # on Mac OS X
you will need to go into NetInfo Manager and select user and find your short-user-name. Change uid and guid.
    #on Linux look in
    /etc/passwd
    /etc/group
    # with care...
    # change 1000:20 to your values for uid:gid
    sudo find / -user short-user-name -exec chown 1000:20 {} \;
The manual for Tenon MachTen UNIX (which Apple checked when doing Mac OS
    X) says that one should crate the file /etc/exports, which will cause
portmap, mountd and nsfd to launch at startup via the /etc/rc file. The
file must not contain any blank lines or comments, and each line has the
    syntax
    directory -option[, option] hostlist
where 'directory is the pathname of the directory that can be exported,
and 'hostlist' is a space separated list of hostnames that can access the
    directory. For example
    /usr -ro foo bar
    /etc
    /Applications
    /User/gladys gladys
The client the uses a command like
    /sbin/mount -t type [-rw] -o [options] server:directory mount_point
where 'type' is 'nfs', 'server' the name of the server, 'directory' the
server directory mounted, and 'mount_point' the client mount point. See
    'man mount' for details.
I haven't tried the above, but it would be nice to know if it works on Mac OS X.
    Hans Aberg
This will give you some hints on NFS. Post back your questions.

  • Best Method for transfering iTunes library from Windows 7 to Mac OSX

I just bought a MacBook Air and am in the process of preparing my file transfer. The only data on my computer I really care about is my school/work files, (which are very easy to transfer), and my iTunes library. What is the best method for transfering music?
I was going to use an external drive and simply drag and drop everything. Last time I did this I needed a special file in order to keep my playlists, top rated, and playcount. Is there an easier and faster method now? I have about fifty gigabites of music so I think it might take longer over wifi.
I also have an iPhone and have already transfered all of the recent purchases. If I export my library, will all my iPhone backup data stay there as well?
If anybody has some insight or a link that outlines all of this that'd be great. Thanks in advance.

I need some advice.  What would be the best method for putting a video on a page?  How would I go about this method?
Also, the person who wants me to put in this video likely has it only in dvd format (A professor who records his lectures).  Any suggestions as to a program that converts dvds to something simpler like a .mov or .mv4? Preferably a format compatible with the method I'm searching for.

  • Best Method For Importing Clips Between FCP Projects

What is the best method for importing clips between FCP 7.0.3 projects?  I am wondering whether or not pulling the clips from the Capture Scratch folder is the way to go or will using Import from the new FCP project create a new folder in Capture Scratch with the imported clips?  I have a new HD camcorder with different clips for different projects and Log and Transfer makes it so easy to bring them all in at once but now wondering how best to separate them into separate Capture Scratch folders for each project.

well, I simply either drag them in to the new/different project from the finder, or drag or copy and paste between open fcp projects.  Never had any problems working this way.  Just remember that if you delete a specific project scratch disk folder, you may be deleting media used in another project.
