Best OEL 6 kernel for guest VM

Hello everyone,
I'd like your opinions on which kernel I should use when creating an Oracle Linux 6 guest PVM VM: the UEK or the vanillia one?
My problem is that I need to install an IBM software that faults with UEK but runs fine with the standard kernel.
I already have a 2-node RAC running on OVM 3.1.1 with the UEK kernel: my concerns are about stability and performances.
Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Alessandro

Is there any separate OS image which is required to be downloaded for this purpose?IIRC, Oracle VM Manager [OVM] includes an Oracle Linux [OL] template. You're on your own with the Windows VM, however. +(As I mentioned in my reply to your post "Oracle VM, OVM will help you with this.)+

  • Best place to create the DHCP scope for Guest SSID for remote office connected to HQ Foreign-Anchor controller

    Hi Experts ,
Need help with the respect to understand the best practice to place/create the DHCP scope for remote site Guest SSID which will be connected to HQ Foeign-Anchor controller set-up.
how about internet traffic for Guest SSID , which one will be recommanded :
    1) Guest SSID gets authenticated from HQ ISE and exposed to the local internet
    2) Guest SSID gets authenticated from HQ ISE and exposed to the HQ internet
    Thanks

    Hi George ,
Thanks for your reply ...So you mean, best design would be to create the DHCP scope into DMZ for guest and let it get exposed to HQ internet ...
how about if I have another anchor controller in lets say in other  office and I need to anchor the traffic or load balance from HQ foreign controller , in that case if I create DHCP scope into HQ anchor controller and if its down , I will loose the connectivity , how do I achieve fail-over to another anchor ?
Do I need to create secondary scope into another anchor controller and let the client get reauthenticated from other location ISE and get ip address as well from another anchor controller . Is it what you are proposing ?

  • ISCSI connections for guests: how to set up?

    A couple of questions:
    1. If we wanted to set up iSCSI connections for guests such as SQL servers, what is the best way to handle this? For example, if we had four 10-Gb NICs and wanted to use as few of them as possible, is it common to turn two of the NICs into Virtual Switches
accessible by the OS, then use these to connect both the host and the SQL guests? Or would the best option be to use two 10-Gb NICs for the Hyper-V Host's iSCSI connections only, and use the other two 10-Gb NICs as virtual switches which are dedicated
to the SQL server iSCSI connections?
    2. I know MPIO should be used for storage connections instead of teaming; if two NICs are teamed as a virtual switch, however, does this change anything? For example, if a virtual switch is created from a NIC team of two 10-Gb NICs, is it acceptable to create
an iSCSI connection on a network adapter created on that virtual switch?

" If we wanted to set up iSCSI connections for guests such as SQL servers, what is the best way to handle this?"
Don't.   Use VHDX files instead.  A common reason for using iSCSI for SQL was to allow for shared storage in a SQL cluster.  2012 R2 introduces the capability to use shared vhdx files.  It is much easier to set up and will likely
give you as good, or better performance, that iSCSI.
But, if you insist on setting it up, set it up the same as you would on the host.  Two NICs on different subnets configured with MPIO. (Unless using Dell's software which forces a non-standard configuration of both NICs on the same subnet).  Teamed
NICs are not supported.  For a purely best practice configuration, yes, it makes sense to have separate NICs for host and guest, but it is not an absolute requirement.

    Hi,
The SAP kernel comes as two parts, one is DB dependent and the other is DB independent. The best practice in upgrading the kernel is to update both the parts at the same time. Make sure that u have chosen the right component from the list of kernels in SAP SMP.
The kernel files are available in the following path,

  • Printing Solutions for Guest Wireless

So this is something that has been bouncing around the forums for a year or two now.  I have failed to come up with a "best-of-breed" approach that meets the strict security requirments of a government department.
The scenario is this - the wireless platform is based around centralised Wism controllers in a datacentre and an anchor controller (for guest wireless) in a dmz, we have WCS to manage the components including the Lightweight Access-Points (mainly Cisco 1142N's) with a Cisco NGS to act as both hotspot and as the client credentials RADIUS authority. it works great except for printing which simply isn't currently an option.
The solution services a wide number of geographic locations - all members of the one guest SSID and mobility group.  Since clients that connect to this are effectively DMZ'd and only able to connect to the internet, I am struggling to find a practical way to provide printing specific to each geographic site without going for a cloud service such as "Drop-box", or "PrinterON"
Has anyone out there in the Community come up with any innovative approaches to this connundrum?  If so please join the conversation

  • WCS logs for Guest accounts

    Hello,
Are there any logs on the WCS that can capture the MAC and IP address of a Guest client ?
The idea is to have this information available in order to correlate it with the Web server logs. It seems that the WCS logs capture only the MAC address
    of a Guest client.
Are you aware of any settings for any logs that would enable logging of both the IP and MAC address for guest accounts ?
    Thank you in advance
    Best Regards,Pan

In 5.2 take a look at the guest user session report:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/wcs/5.2/configuration/guide/5_2reps.html#wp1117029
    Guest User Sessions Report
The Guest User Sessions report shows historical session data for a guest user such as amount of data passed, login and logout time, the guest IP address, and the guest MAC address.
The session data is available (by default) for one month after the session event occurs. This data retention period is configurable from the WCS background task settings page.
This report can be generated for guest users who are associated to controllers running software version 5.2 and above.

  • Wondering if this was the correct way to patch my kernel for CFLAGS?

Hello. I use to build the zen-sources kernel but stopped many months ago. I didn't really need all of those patches but I did miss the Custom CFLAGS/MAKEFLAGS option that the zen kernel had. I also missed the 432HZ Timer frequency setting available in the zen patch.

I'm still trying to find out if I needed to patch any other parts of the kernel source when I added CFLAGS to the kernel modules? I also would like to know if I did the Timing part correctly (so I could use the 432HZ setting for a dual core).
..... so far this kernel has worked ok for the last 4 days. Does anybody know how I can benchmark it and compare it to other kernels that I have built with different settings?
    Any info is appreciated.

The best version for Mavericks, in fact the only version, is an integral part of OS X. In other words you already have it.
    Its version number is 7.1.5.

I am a new mac user and I switch to mac due to the graphics that it brings. I do website in pc and I heard iweb is the best.NOW i heard that iweb will be discontinue. so what is the best application there for website using MAC OSX lion?

It is now confirmed  that iWeb, and iDVD, has been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. However, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken.  If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
It now appears that the iLife suite of applications offered on disc is now a discontinued product and the remaining supported iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on. However, the iLife 11 boxed version that is still available at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD. Those two apps were listed in small, gray text on the iLife 11 box that I bought.
Personally, if I didn't already have a copy I would purchase one to have it for reinstallation purposes if ever needed.

  • 2504 with new-architecture enabled breaks MAC auth for guest access

    Hello,
We have (2) 2504 WLC running version 7.6.120. WLC1 is the local controller and WLC2 is an achor controller for guest-access. We need to incorporate a 3850 for use with the WLC2 anchor. The guest access is currently working with Mac-Auth and Mac-Auth-Fail to Web-Auth.
When converged access is enabled on the WLC1 and WLC2, the MAc-Auth no longer works. That is, the previously authenticated user is now redirected to the Web-Auth page. The local controller shows the user as authenticated but the Anchor controller shows the state as WEb-Auth-REQD.
Rolling back using "config mobility new-architecture disable" and rebooting resolves the issue.
Does anyone what changes from the old to the new that would break this mac-auth/web-auth configuration?

You should reach TAC for these sort of issues. Not many people deploying this CA setup yet & you may not get direct feedback immediately.

I'd put them on an external hard drive(s) and burn them to a DVD as well (at least 2 - 3 copies on different drives/media); I prefer having control and a local solution instead of relying on a server and the possibility of someone (who shouldn't be)  downloading my work.

  • HT4664 What is the best graphics card for FCPX?

In the nonstop anti-FCPX propaganda is an article of interest — posted 7/9/12 — comparing the benchmarks of FCPX and PP6.
    http://www.streamingmedia.com/Producer/Articles/ReadArticle.aspx?ArticleID=83582 &PageNum=1
The system used was a 2 x 2.93 GHz Quad-Core Mac Pro from early 2009 running MacOS X version 10.7.4 with 12 GB of RAM and an NVIDIA Quadro FX 4800 graphics card with 1.5 GB of onboard RAM.
In most cases PP6 outperformed FCPX with this configuration. However, in the comments Ben Balser pointed out that FCP X's A/VFoundation engine wasn't ideal on the NVIDA card:
"Quadro is actually not the best card for FCP X's A/VFoundation engine, but great for CS6's Mercury engine, so the test is amazingly flawed right there. Try both on a 5780 card and watch things drastically change. I've done that test myself. Exporting to Compressor uses a MUCH more sophisticated encoding engine meant for higher level, professional transcoding, not simple outputs, which are faster using Export Media…"
Apple lists this card on its support page: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4664
    So,
What is the best graphics card for FCPX?

    Ben,
Thanks for chiming in on that article. It would be good to have a benchmark comparison with the two systems each with a preferred card.
I'm hoping to see some other comparisons on this thread. Also, some links to other articles about best practices and configurations.
