Best Practice for Variable Logger

Hello
Variable loggers are very helpful during process development. After a process is fairly stable is it okay to turn off the loggers and leave them in the process or is it better to remove them from the process( if remove, then might be necessary to re-add if a subsequent bug is found).
Thanks for insight.
Jesse

I don't see a problem with leaving them there. If they don't log anything, then they will have close to no impact to your process (probably a few millisecond, no more).

  • Best Practice for setting bind variable when application loads

    I am using JDeveloper 11.1.2.3.
    When my application loads, the first unbounded page has a table populated by a named query.
    I would like to set the parameter used by the named query when the page loads, to populate the initial data that is displayed.
    What is the best practice for a solution to this issue?

    You can set the bind variable on VO by overriding prepareSession() method in Application Module check this http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E37975_01/web.111240/e16182/bcservices.htm#sthref357

  • What's best practice for logging messages in pageflow?

    What's best practice for logging messages in pageflow?
    Workshop complains when I try to use a Log4J logger by saying it's not serializable. Is there a context similar to JWSContext that you can get a logger from?
    There seems to be a big hole in the documentation on debug logging in workflows and JSP pages.
    thanks,
    Rodger...

    Make the configuration change in setDomainEnv.cmd. Find where the following variable is set:
    LOG4J_CONFIG_FILE
    and change it to your desired path.
    In your Global.app class, instantiate a static Logger like this:
    transient static Logger logger = Logger.getLogger(Global.class);
    You should be logging now as long as you have the categories and appenders configured properly in your log4j.xml file.

  • Best Practice for report output of CRM Notes field data

    My company has a requirement to produce a report with variable output, based upon a keyword search of our CRM Request Notes data.  Example:  The business wants a report return of all Service Requests where the Notes field contains the word "pay" or "payee" or "payment".  As part of the report output, the business wants to freely select the output fields meant to accompany the notes data.  Can anyone please advise to SAP's Best Practice for meeting a report requirement such as this.  Is a custom ABAP application built?  Does data get moved to BW for Reporting (how are notes handles)?  Is data moved to separate system?

  • Best practice for how to access a set of wsdl and xsd files

    I've recently beeing poking around with the Oracle ESB, which requires a bunch of wsdl and xsd files from HOME/bpel/system/xmllib. What is the best practice for including these files in a BPEL project? It seems like a bad idea to copy all these files into every project that uses the ESB, especially if there are quite a few consumers of the bus. Is there a way I can reference this directory from the project so that the files can just stay in a common place for all the projects that use them?
    Bret

    Hi,
    I created a project (JDeveloper) with local xsd-files and tried to delete and recreate them in the structure pane with references to a version on the application server. After reopening the project I deployed it successfully to the bpel server. The process is working fine, but in the structure pane there is no information about any of the xsds anymore and the payload in the variables there is an exception (problem building schema).
    How does bpel know where to look for the xsd-files and how does the mapping still work?
    This cannot be the way to do it correctly. Do I have a chance to rework an existing project or do I have to rebuild it from scratch in order to have all the references right?
    Thanks for any clue.

  • Best practice for nested scripting on UCCX

    Hello All!
    Newbie on scripting here and inheritted a HIGHLY customized UCCX environment.  In looking at the scripts, it seems the system integrator built out the logic for every script within every script.  That is, if one script queues calls into CSQ1 and if they are waiting for more than 2 minutes it sends them to CSQ2, it has all of the logic in that one script that the regular CSQ2 script has as well.  So that means anytime "a change" has to be made, it has to be made to the CSQ2 logic in the CSQ1 script AND the CSQ2 script as well.
    Is there a best practice for this?  I would think it would be easier to say, in the above scenario that if the caller is waiting in CSQ1 for more than 2 minutes, it shoudl redirect the call to a trigger for the application that uses CSQ2.  Thus the logic is in the respective scripts and not duplicated across the board.
    Any thoughts and experiences on how this is best accomplished and maintained would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!
    JG

    Yes, if all queue logic is the common for your different CSQs you can build one common script and then reference this script as a subflow from your main scripts and simply pass the CSQ name as a variable to it.  This way you avoid what you said the need to rebuild logic in several places if you need to make a global change, you simply change the one common script logic.

  • Best Practices for Accessing the Configuration data Modelled as XML File in

    Hi,
    I refer the couple of blof posts/Forum threads on How to model and access the Configuration data as XML inside OSB.
    One of the easiest and way is to
    Re: OSB: What is best practice for reading configuration information
    Another could be
    Uploading XML data as .xq file (Creating .xq file copy paste all the Configuration as XML )
    I need expert answers for following.
    1] I have .xsd file which is representing the Configuration data. Structure of XSD is
    <FrameworkConfig>
    <Config type="common" key="someKey">proprtyvalue</Config>
    <FrameworkConfig>
    2] As my project will move from one env to another the property-value will change according to the Environment...
    For Dev:
    <FrameworkConfig>
    <Config type="common" key="someKey">proprtyvalue_Dev</Config>
    <FrameworkConfig>
    For Stage :
    <FrameworkConfig>
    <Config type="common" key="someKey">proprtyvalue_Stage</Config>
    <FrameworkConfig>
    3] Let say I create the following Folder structure to store the Configuration file specific for dev/stage/prod instance
    OSB Project Folder
    |
    |---Dev
    |
    |--Dev_Config_file.xml
    |
    |---Stage
    |
    |--Stahe_Config_file.xml
    |
    |---Prod
    |
    |-Prod_Config_file.xml
    4] I need a way to load these property file as xml element/variable inside OSb message flow.?? I can't use XPath function fn:doc("URL") coz I don't know exact path of XMl on deployed server.
    5] Also I need to lookup/model the value which will specify the current server type(Dev/Stage/prod) on which OSB MF is running. Let say any construct which will act as a Global configuration and can be acccessible inside the OSb message flow. If I get the vaalue for the Global variable as Dev means I will load the xml config file under the Dev Directory @runtime containing key value pair for Dev environment.
    6] This Re: OSB: What is best practice for reading configuration information
    suggest the designing of the web application which will serve the xml file over the http protocol and getting the contents into variable (which in turn can be used in OSB message flow). Can we address this problem without creating the extra Project and adding the Dependencies? I read configuration file approach too..but the sample configuration file doesn't show entry of .xml file as resources
    Hope I am clear...I really appreciate your comments and suggestion..

    If you can enforce some sort of naming convention for the transport endpoint for this proxy service across the environments, where the environment name is part of the endpoint you may able to retrieve it from $inbound in the message pipeline.
    eg. http://osb_host/service/prod/service1 ==> Prod and http://osb_host/service/prod/service2 ==> stage , then i think $inbound/ctx:transport/ctx:uri can give you /service/prod/service1 or /service/stage/service1 and applying appropriate xpath functions you will be able to extract the environment name.
    Chk this link for details on $inbound/ctx:transport : http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13159_01/osb/docs10gr3/userguide/context.html#wp1080822

  • Best practice for business rules

    Our business rules have
    Fix ( [Cost Center] )
    to extract the user's Cost Center from his form so that it runs faster.
    What is the best practice for running that same Business Rule but for all Cost Center? Will it be to put that Business Rule in a menu somewhere and let it prompt users to manually type "Cost Center" so that the Business Rule processes all cost centers ?
    Thanks.
    David

    You can try this way: create your primary business rule with FIX(@RELATIVE(VarCostCenter,0)), where VarCostCenter is a run time promt. Then you could easily use it to calculate only current member on ther form (fix will give you only 1 member).
    Then you create a new sequence and add there your business rule, go to "Launch Variables" tab, find promt for Cost Center, set it to "Total Cost Centers" and click hide. So basically now you have a copy of the primary rule but it runs for all cost centers automatically.
    So using this technique you will have to maintain only one business rule!

  • Best practice for passing parameters to a Timer event handler?

    The code hinting is suggesting that I use a Timer object rather than setTimeout or setInterval, however I need to pass a parameter to the timer handler.
    What is the best practice for doing this?
    + Subclass Timer?
    + Subclass TimerEvent?
    + Global variable?
    + other?
    Thanks

    Hmm.  I don’t think I would’ve chosen that option.  I would probably create a class that listens for the TimerEvent dispatches a custom event.  Unless there is information you need in TimerEvent, I don’t see a need to extend it.

  • Best practices for submitting CF data to an AJAX page?

    Hi everyone,
    I've got a project I'm working on for work and have hit a
    little problem.
    I am extracting data from my database and then after each
    piece of data (just numbers, usually 10 chunks of numbers), I tack
    a "|" onto the end of each number. Then, I output the data to the
    page. Back on my AJAX enabled page, I get the "responseText" from
    that page, and then split it up using javascript and the
    pre-inserted "|".
    This seems to work fine, but it is quite a bit more messy.
    Also, It would really, really be nice to be able to do sorting and
    various other operations on the data with javascript instead of
    having to rely on CF's icky code logic.
    Can someone please enlighten me as to best practices for this
    type of thing? I get the suspicion that I'll probably be using XML
    somehow, but I'd your opinion.
    Thanks!

  • Best practices for Refreshing Unv Structure for SAP based universes

    This may sound basic and I apologize for asking this, but the refresh structure in SAP based universes is somewhat different from noraml universes.
    Here is what i'd like to do:
    - Hide all the L00 objects.
    - Rename all the L01 objects and move them to a new Class.
    - Change some of the detail (attribute) objects to dimension objects.
    - Hide the format and Unit for key figures.
    - Hide all of the classes/subclasses  that get automatically generated when a SAP based universe is created.
    I have noticed that when I do the above and refresh the universe, it assumes that all these objects have gone missing from the original classes and adds them back to the universe.
    I also want to make sure that if the select of an object gets updated and the object is re-named, then it should automatically pick up the change.
    Lastly, I have some reports which were built prior to this renaming. I want to make sure that the reports do not break.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    This thread is really old.
    Yes it was a common problem back in the earlier XI 3.x days . a lot of bugs in this area were eliminated by the time of XI 3.1 SP03 FP3.x   -  you don't quote your version.
    Actually, you need to be aware that a refresh structure is often not needed, and can corrupt the olap universe . Pls check out Note 1278216 - What are the best practices for OLAP Universe Change Management when using SAP Integration Kit?
    in essence :
    Only use 'Refresh Structure' functionality If:
    - A new Object (Dimension/Characteristic) has been added to the BEx query (Rows/Columns/Free Characteristics)
    - A new Variable Restriction has been added to the Bex query Filters
    Do not use 'Refresh Structure' functionality after:
    - Having modified a STRUCTURE in BEx. i.e. 'Detail view of Formula' or 'Details of Selection', or changing the General Description of structure members.
    - Doing manual actions on objects/classes in the OLAP Universe like:  Move ; Cut/Paste ; Drag/Drop ; Hide ; Delete.
    (because these workflow can lead to corruption)

  • Best Practices for NCS/PI Server and Application Monitoring question

    Hello,
    I am deploying a virtual instance of Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 (1.2.1.012) on an ESX infrastructure. This is being deployed in an enterprise enviroment. I have questions around the best practices for moniotring this appliance. I am looking to monitor application failures (services down, db issues) and "hardware" (I understand this is a virtual machine, but statistics on the filesystem and CPU/Memory is good).
    Firstly, I have enabled via the CLI the snmp-server and set the SNMP trap host destination. I have created a notification receiver for the SNMP traps inside the NCS GUI and enabled the "System" type alarm. This type includes alarms like NCS_DOWN and PI database is down. I am trying to understand what the difference between enabling SNMP-SERVER HOST via the CLI and setting the Notification destination inthe GUI is? Also how can I generate a NCS_DOWN alarm in my lab. Doing NCS stop does not generate any alarms. I have not been able to find much information on how to generate this as a test.
    Secondly, how and which processes should I be monitoring from the Management Station? I cannot easily identify the main NCS procsses from the output of ps -ef when logged in the shell as root.
    Thanks guys!

    1.) What is the cost of having the scope in a <jsp:useBean> tag set to 'session'? I am aware that there are a list of scopes like page, application, etc. and that if i use 'session' my variable will live for as long as that session is alive. (did i get this right?). You should rather look to the functional requirements instead of costs. If the bean need to be session scoped (e.g. maintain the logged in user), then do it so. If it just need to be request scoped (e.g. single page form data), then keep it request scoped.
    2.)If the JSP Page where i use that <useBean> is to be accessed hundred of times a day, will it compensate my server resources? Right now i am using the Sun Glassfish Server.It will certainly eat resources. Just supply enough CPU speed and memory to a server. You cannot expect that a webserver running at a Pentium 500MHz with 256MB of memory can flawlessly serve 100 simultaneous users at the same second. But you may expect that it can serve 100 users per 24 hour.
    3.) Can you suggest best practice in memory management given the architecture i described above?Just write code so that it doesn't unnecessarily eat memory. Only allocate memory if your application need to do so. You should rather let the hardware depend on the application requirements, not to let the application depend on the hardware specs.
    4.)Also, I have implemented connection pooling in my architecture, but my application is to be used by thousands of clients everyday.. Can the Sun Glassfish Server take care of that or will I have to purchase a powerful sever?Glassfish is just an application server software, it is not server hardware. Your concerns are rather hardware related.

  • Best practices for connecting to DB

    Hi,
    I am having 3 different java classes which will contact the DB for getting the data from the table. I wrote a separate java class for DB connection like this :
    public class DBConnection {
    private Connection con;
    public Connection getConnection() {
    try {
    Class.forName("org.apache.derby.jdbc.ClientDriver");
    con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:derby://localhost:1527/StrutsDB", "username", "password");
    } catch (SQLException ex) {
    Logger.getLogger(DBConnection.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex);
    } catch (ClassNotFoundException ex) {
    Logger.getLogger(DBConnection.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex);
    return con;
    How to use this single connection object in all of the 3 classes? What are all the ways of doing so?
    Is there any best practices for connecting to DB?
    Thanks in advance,

    The problem with "best practice" is it really depends on your situation. If you are creating a single user, desktop application then what you are doing will work but would be more efficient if the connection was declared as static and you used the singleton pattern.
    public class DBConnection {
        private static final Connection con;
        private DBConnection() {
            try {
                Class.forName("org.apache.derby.jdbc.ClientDriver");
                con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:derby://localhost:1527/StrutsDB", "username", "password");
            } catch (SQLException ex) {
                Logger.getLogger(DBConnection.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex);
            } catch (ClassNotFoundException ex) {
                Logger.getLogger(DBConnection.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex);
        public static Connection getConnection() {
            return con.
    }The private constructor guarantees only one instance of the class will be created (since you can't use 'new' to create one) and initialized the database connection. Then any other object that require a connection simply call DBConnection.getConnection() and they will get the same database connection each time.
    Note that this is a little simplistic and is not thread safe. If your classes will be executing on different threads you will need a more sophisticated approach. You will also need to make sure you commit or rollback any transactions when done or the next time you get the connection you may be in the middle of an existing transaction.

  • Tips and best practices for translating C into LabVIEW? SERIOUS newbie...

    I need to translate a C function into LabVIEW.  This will be my *first* LabVIEW project.  I've been reading some tutorials, and I'm still struggling to get my brain out of "C/C++ mode" and learn the LabVIEW paradigms.
    Structurally, the function that I need to translate gets called from a while-loop and performs a bunch of mathematical calculations.
    The basic layout is something like this (this obviously isn't the actual code, it just illustrates the general flow control and techniques that it uses).
    struct Params
    // About 20 int and float parameters
    int CalculateMetrics(Params *pParams,
    float input1, float input2 [etc])
    int errorCode = 0;
    float metric1;
    float metric2;
    float metric3;
    // Do some math like:
    metric1 = input1 * (pParams->someParam - 5);
    metric2 = metric1 + (input2 / pParams->someOtherParam);
    // Tons more simple math
    // A couple for-loops
    if (metric1 < metric2)
    // manipulate metric1 somehow
    else
    // set some kind of error code
    errorCode = ...;
    if (!errorCode)
    metric3 = metric1 + pow(metric2, 3);
    // More math...
    // etc...
      // update some external global metrics variables
    return errorCode;
    I'm still too green to understand whether or not a function like this can translate cleanly from C to LabVIEW, or whether the LabVIEW version will have significant structural differences.
    Are there any general tips or "best practices" for this kind of task?
    Here are some more specific questions:
    Most of the LabVIEW examples that I've seen (at least at the beginner level) seem to heavily rely on using the front panel controls  to provide inputs to functions.  How do I build a VI where the input arguments(input1, input2, etc) come as numbers, and aren't tied to dials or buttons on the front panel?
    The structure of the C function seems to rely heavily on the use of stack variables like metric1 and metric2 in order to perform calculations.  It seems like creating temporary "stack" variables in LabVIEW is possible, but frowned upon.  Is it possible to keep this general structure in the LabVIEW VI without making the code a mess?
    Thanks guys!

    There's already a couple of good answers, but to add to #1:
    You're clearly looking for a typical C-function. Any VI that doesn't require front panel opening (user interaction) can be such a function.
    If the front panel is never opened the controls are merely used to send data to the VI, much like (identical to) the declaration of a C-function. The indicators can/will be return values.
    Which controls and indicators are used to sending data in and out of a VI is almost too easy; Click the icon of the front panel (top right) and show connector, click which control/indicator goes where. Done. That's your functions declaration.
    Basically one function is one VI, although you might want to split it even further, dont create 3k*3k pixel diagrams.
    Depending on the amount of calculations done in your If-Thens they might be sub vi's of their own.
