  • Best Practice for Portal Patches and effort estimation

    Hi ,
One of our client is applying the following patches
    1. ECC 6.0 SP15(currently SP14)
    2. ESS MSS SP15(currently SP14 with some level of functional customization )
    3. EP 7 SP18(currently SP14)
We would like to kwow the best practice for applying portal patches and the effort estimation for redoing the portal devt on the new patch.
o   What is the overall level of effort with applying Portal patches?
o   How are all the changes to SAP objects handle?  Do they have to be
         manually re-entered?
o  What is the impact of having a single NWDI instance across the
Portal Landscape during the Patch process?
    Regards,
    Revathi Raju.

    Hi Revathi,
o What is the overall level of effort with applying Portal patches?
overall effort to apply the patch is apprx 1/2-1 days for NW7 system. This is exclude the patch files download because it's based on your download speed.
o How are all the changes to SAP objects handle? Do they have to be
    manually re-entered?
Depending on your customization. Normally it wont effect if you created the customzation application apart from SAP standard application
o What is the impact of having a single NWDI instance across the
Portal Landscape during the Patch process?
Any change that related to NWDI, you might be need to re-deployed from NWDI itself.
    Thanks

  • Best Practice for trimming content in Sharepoint Hosted Apps?

    Hey there,
I'm developing a Sharepoint 2013 App that is set to be Sharepoint Hosted.  I have a section within the app that I'd like to be Configuration-related, so I would like to only allow certain users or roles to be able to access this content or even see
that it exists (i.e. an Admin button, if you will).  What is the best practice for accomplishing this in Sharepoint 2013 Apps?  Thusfar, I've been doing everything using jQuery and the REST api and I'm hoping there's a standard within this that I
    should be using.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can weigh in here.
    Mike

    Hi,
    According to
this documentation, “You must configure a new name in Domain Name Services (DNS) to host the apps. To help improve security, the domain name should not be a subdomain
of the domain that hosts the SharePoint sites. For example, if the SharePoint sites are at Contoso.com, consider ContosoApps.com instead of App.Contoso.com as the domain name”.
    More information:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/fp161237(v=office.15)
For production hosting scenarios, you would still have to create a DNS routing strategy within your intranet and optionally configure your firewall.
The link below will show how to create and configure a production environment for apps for SharePoint:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/fp161232(v=office.15)

  • Best Practice for unimplemented OTC project transports?

    Hello,
We implemented and went live with portions of ERP modules COPA, MM, GL(new), and Consolidations 2 years ago as a Phase 1 implementation.  Phase 2, which began directly afterwards, included CRM, OTC, and BW.  The problem that has come up is that due to numerous implementation issues, we have not gone live with Phase 2 and it is still undetermined when/if we will implement at least OTC in ERP.  We have a 3-system (Dev, QA, Prod) ERP landscape and are running into issues due to inconsistencies between QA and Prod.  All the transports related to the Phase 2 project were created in Dev and moved into QA, but due to the status of the project were never moved into Production.  We recently had an issue with moving changes to our operating concern through the landscape, due to the existing inconsistencies of the operating concern configurations between Dev, QA, and Prod which led to us not being able to re-activate the Operating Concern in Prod until we moved in additional transports that were tied to Phase 2.
My question is this...What would be the best practice/approach to resolving the inconsistencies in our ERP landscape to assure that we have accurate QA testing of our Phase 1 implementation, but also trying not to lose the existing Phase 2 development if we decide to implement OTC in the future?  I'm considering the below options:
    A)  Move all Phase 2 requests
    - Refresh QA (via system copy of Prod)
    - Move all Phase 2 transports that were originally moved into QA into the refreshed system and test existing Phase 1 business processes to determine risk of moving into Prod
    - Move all Phase 2 transports into Prod in order to maintain 3-system consistency
    B)  2 system consistency
    - Refresh QA (via system copy of Prod)
    - Leave all Phase 2 transports in import queue for QA, and maintain Prod/QA consistency only
    - OTC implementation can be realized with moving Phase 2 transports through QA at some point in the future
    C)  "Reset button"
    - Refresh QA (via system copy of Prod)
    - Refresh Dev (via system copy of Prod) - I'm not sure what technical considerations would need to be made around the development system's role as the origin of rep and dictionary objects and how this can be maintain in a system copy?
    - This would wipe out all Phase 2 development
I would greatly appreciate anyone's guidance on our options given our current scenario.
    thanks,
    John

I would suggest to go with the option A though it seems more work with this option. But this is the only option which can effectively work in the long run. With option B, you will not completely eliminate the problem and with option C, you will loose all your phase 2 work, which will be big waste of the efforts.
Additional advantage with option A is that whenever your organization decides to go-live with Phase 2 work then minimal regression testing will be required as most of your work will be already tested and verified. Regression testing and remediation is significant work whevever a solution is introduced in a working environment.

  • Best-practice for use of object styles to manage image text wrap issues when aiming at both print and EPUB output?

I have a work-flow question about object styles, text-wrap, and preparing a long document with lots of images for dual print/EPUB output in InDesign CC 2014.
I am sort of experienced with InDesign but new to EPUB export. I have hundreds of pages and hundreds of images so I'd like to make my EPUB learning curve, in particular, less painful.
Let me talk you through what I'm planning and you tell me if it's stupid.
It's kind of a storybook-look I'm going for. Single column of text (6" by 9" page) with lots of small-to-medium images on the page (one or two images per page), and the text flowing around, sometimes right, sometimes left. Sometimes around the bounding box, sometimes following the edges of the images. So in each case I'm looking to tweak image size and placement and wrap settings so that the image is as close to the relevant text as possible and the layout isn't all wonky. Lovely print page the goal. Lots of fussy trade-offs and deciding what looks best. Inevitably, this will entail local overrides of paragraph styles. So what I want to do, I guess, is get the images as closely placed as possible, before I do any of that overriding. Then I divide my production line.
    1) I set aside the uniformly-styled doc for later EPUB export. (This is wise, right? Start for EPUB export with a doc with pristine styles?)
    2) With the EPUB-bound version set aside, I finish preparing the print side, making all my little tweaks. So many pages, so many images. So many little nudges. If I go back and nudge something at the beginning everything shifts a little. It's broken up into lots of separate stories, but still ... there is no way to make this non-tedious. But what is best practice? I'm basically just doing it by hand, eyeballing it and dropping an inline anchor to some close bit of text in case of some storm, i.e. if there's a major text change my image will still be almost where it belongs. Try to get the early bits right so that I don't have to go back and change them and then mess up stuff later. Object styles don't really help me with that. Do they? I haven't found a good use for them at this stage (Obviously if I had to draw a pink line around each image, or whatever, I'd use object styles for that.)
Now let me shift back to EPUB. Clearly I need object styles to prepare for export. I'm planning to make a left float style and a right float style and a couple of others for other cases. And I'm basically going to go through the whole doc selecting each image and styling it in whatever way seems likeliest. At this point I will change the inline anchors to above line or custom, since I'm told EPUB doesn't like the inline ones.
I guess maybe it comes down to this. I realize I have to use object styles for images for EPUB, but for print, manual placement - to make it look just right - and an inline anchor seems best? I sort of feel like if I'm going to bother to use object styles for EPUB I should also use them for print, but maybe that's just not necessary? It feels inefficient to make so many inline anchors and then trade them for a custom thing just for EPUB. But two different outputs means two different workflows. Sometimes you just have to do it twice.
Does this make sense? What am I missing, before I waste dozens of hours doing it wrong?

I've moved your question to the InDesign EPUB forum for best results.

  • Best Practice for Delivering Content

    Hi SDN Experts,
We have a scenario where we need to read/write a EDI kind of file, separated file. But the solution should be a deployable one and we are planning to provide IR Content alone and use Integration Scenarios for ID.
    We have two options:
    1. Use file Content Conversion (EDI structure is very simple) and provide Communication Channel Templates with Content Conversion Parameters for Integration Scenario.
    2. Use java Map to read/write EDI (Communication Channels would be simple in this case ).
What are the pros and cos of the two approaches?
    Regards,
    Sudharshan N A

    Hi Sudharsan,
    Pros and Cons:
    1. Use file Content Conversion (EDI structure is very simple) and provide Communication Channel Templates with Content Conversion Parameters for Integration Scenario.
Ans: - Communication channel configuration is dificult as you have to introduce content conversion in it. If you miss any parameter in that part or provide wrong value. It will cause error.
    - Mapping will bw very easy may be one to one or upon requirement. can use graphical mapping.
    2. Use java Map to read/write EDI (Communication Channels would be simple in this case ).
Ans: - You will resolve all conversion relation (like in which format data is expected at receiver) issues in java mapping by programing. so mapping is going to be atough task.
    - no content conversion required at CC level so its easy to configured.
    Best practice depends accordingly:
if you are a java expert (in java mapping) go for 2nd one other wise its always default to use content conversion.
    Hope this will help.

  • Best practice for "Portal Appplication in Maintenance"message ?

    Hi,
I was wondering how you deal with portal applications that go "in maintenance". We now have multiple application area's (HR/PM/CO) integrated in our portal with own developed applications and I was wondering what the best option is if not the entire portal (for portal maintenance) goes down, but you just want to show for example a message "portal application down for maintenance" only for a certain application in the portal
    - Do you change the role in which the application under maintenance is and assign it a page with the 'maintenance message'
    Regards,
    Igor

    Hi
in our framework, each application on the back end system (SAP) posess 'running' state that is either true or false.
All application iview check the state of their respoective application, and display a logo and message where the app is not running.
thus, no change in the portal if part of the application is in maintenance.
in addition, administrator possess a Iview that allows changing the state of an application.
we're currently discussing changing the state to a tri-state (running, will-be-closed, closed), to allows more flexibility.

  • Best Practices for many Remote Objects?

Large Object Model doing JDBC over RMI
Please read the following and provide suggestions for a recommended approach or literature that covers this area well?
    N-Tiered Architecture
JSP/Servlet (MVC) - Database Access Layer - Database
Applets - JSp/Servlet Engine - Database Access Layer - Database
Application Layer - Application Layer - Database Access Layer - Database
I have an object model developed using Torque (A JDBC Object Relational modeling framework) for over 100 tables (to be over 160) that I am commencing to enable over RMI. I have got several remote methods up and running. For some of the simple methods starting up has been easy. Going forward I forsee issues.
Each table has a wrapper or data object and a peer object that have setters/getters and special methods as desired. The majority of these classes are extended from Base Objects that have basic common functionality for retrieving, creating, and manipulating with a database using SQL.
I have started building a Remote Interface and an Implementation class that invoke the necessary methods and classes within the Object Model to pull successfully off or update the database. Additionally the methods will need to return objects that represent non-primitive serializable dataobjects and collections of objects.
Going forward client applications, servlets, and jsps will be using the database in more complex and comprehensive methods over rmi. Here are a couple of things I am concerned about.
    1) When to use java.rmi.server.codebase for class loading? In my implementation several of the remote methods will return objects (e.g Party, Country, CountryList, AccountList). These objects themselves are composed of other objects that are not part of the jvm. For all remote methods that return non-primitive objects must you include the classes in the codebase for the client to operate upon them. Couldn't this be pointless as you have abstract and extended classes all residing within the codebase? In practice do people generally build very thin proxy objects for the peer/data objects to hold just the basic table elements and sets?
    2) Server Versioning/Identity - Going forward more server classes will be enabled via rmi. Everytime one wants to include more methods on interface that is available must you update the interface, create new implementation classes, and redistribute the Remote Interface, and stubs/skels to client apps to operate on again? Is there some sort of list lookup that a client can do to say which processes are available remotely presently (not just at initialization)? As time changes more or fewer methods might be available?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

More on Why other approaches would be better?
I have implemented some proxy objects for the remote Data Objects produced by Torque. To ease the pain, I have also constructed a proxy Builder that takes the table schema and builds a Proxy Object, an inteface for the proxy, and methods to copy between the Torque Data Object (which only lives on the server) into the Proxy Object (accessible by client and/or server).
The generated methods are useable in the object implementing the Remote Interface but are themselves not remoteable. Only the Server would use these methods. Clients can only receive primitives, proxy Objects, or collections of ProxyObjects.
This seems to be fairly light currently. I had to jump hoops to use Torque and enable remote apps to use the proxy objects. What would be the scaling issues that will come up? Why would EJBs with containers and all kinds of things about such as CMP vs BMP to be concerned with be a better approach?
Methods can be updated to do several operations verses Torque and return appropriately (transactions). In this implementation the client (Servlet, mini App or App) needs the remote stub and the proxy objects (100 or so) to stand in for the Torque generated Data Objects. A much smaller and lighter set of classes, based on common JDK classes, instead of the torque classes (and necessary abstracts/objects/interfaces/exceptions for Torque).

  • Best practices for deploying common object services

    Hi,
Our team has broken out from our main application around 10 services that largely are used to return objects from 10 common tables in the database. We are thinking that these services should be reusable amongst the 5 or so applications that we are going to have in the near future. We're now trying to decide what the best way to make these common services available to the applications is and after considering several ideas, these are the options we've come up with:
    1. Putting jars for all of the services in each application and adding entries to the sessions.xml for any Toplink project mappings that are in the jar files. Also are considering having just one many services jar.
    2. Exposing the services through web services and only giving the client apps the client side code to invoke the web service. Realize this may mean a performance hit, but would mean less code on the client.
    3. Stateless session EJB's.
    4. parent-application tag or some other way to make these jar's be available to all applications on the app server through classloading
    5. Some sort of messaging service
Would appreciate some input on this, as this seems like it would be a fairly common problem.
    Thanks,
    Mark

Is this good idea to put RPM recovery catalog & OID schema in OEM Repository DB? I am thinking just to consolidate all these schema's in one db.Unless you are really starved for resources, I would not recommend storing the OID and OEM repositories in the same database. Both of these repositories support different products, and you risk creating unnecessary dependencies when patching or upgrading. As a completely fictitious example, what if your OID installation has a critical issue that requires a repository database upgrade to version 10.2.0.6, and the Grid Control repository database is only certified for version 10.2.0.5?

f:view has two new attributes in 1.2: beforePhase and afterPhase
which allows you to specify a phase listener method

  • Best practice for migration to new hardware

    Hi,
We are commissioning new hardware for our Web Server. Our current webserver is version 6.1SP4, and for the new server we've decided to stay with 6.1 but install SP7.
Is there a best practice for migrating content from one physical server to another?
What configuration files should I watch out for?
Hopefully the jump from SP4 to SP7 won't cause too many problems.
    Thanks,
    John

unfortunately, there is no quick solution for migrating from 1 server to other. you will need to carefully reconstruct
    - acl rules
    - server hostname configurations
    - any certificates that have been created on the old machine

    Hi Gurus,
We have a SAP ECC6.0 version installed at our client side. My Client is developing a software for SAP Payroll. They want to run Payroll in their SAP system to figure out few things. SAP has recommended to install SAP Best Practices for HCM to get some test data. My questions to you all are:-
    1) SAP best Practices do provide preconfigured settings and some amount of Test Data. How will I install SAP Best Practices for HCM at my client System. Please do tell me in detail because I dont have any knowledge how to proceed as I a SAP HCM functional consultant. We dont have any basis consultant in our team.
    2) How long it can take to install SAP Best Practices for HCM and the complete proceedure to do it?
    3) Is it true that the test data provided by SAP BP and the pre configured base settings will be sufficient to run Payroll. Mind it,my client does not want to run payroll as per their needs, they just want to see how it is run in SAP with the SAP test data.
I would really appreciate if you guyz can provide me any knowledge related to this matter.

  • Best practice for multi-language content in common areas

I've got a site with some text in header/footer/nav that needs to be translated between an English and Spanish site, which use the same design. My intention was to set up all the text as content to facilitate. However, if I use a standard dialog with the component's path set to a child of the current page node, I would need to re-enter the text on every page. If I use a design dialog, or a standard dialog with the component's path set absolutely, the Engilsh and Spanish sites will share the same text. If I use a standard dialog with the component's path set relatively (eg path="../../jcr:content/myPath"), the pages using the component would all need to be at the same level of the hierarchy.
It appears that the Geometrixx demo doesn't address this situation, and leaves copy in English. Is there a best practice for this scenario?

I'm finding that something to the effect of <cq:include path="<%= strCommonContentPath + "codeEntry" %>" resourceType ...
works fine for most components, but not for parsys, or a component containing a parsys. When I attempt that, I get a JS error that says "design.path is null or not an object". Is there a way around this?

  • Business Package for SAP Best Practices for Enterprise Portal

    Hi,
We are implementing EP for ECC 5.0 and we have to web enable some FI transactions like FB50/fb60 etc. We want to use standard business package for this. The only business package that caters this requirement is "Business Package for SAP Best Practices for Enterprise Portal 60.1". When i checked the data source for this business package, the specification is for "SAP R/3 4.6B and above". Does this work for ECC 5.0 as well? In general does the R/3 specific business packages work for ECC versions? Please let me know. Thanks for the help.  I promise rewards.

  • Basic Strategy / Best Practices for System Monitoring with Solution Manager

I am very new to SAP and the Basis group at my company. I will be working on a project to identify the best practices of System and Service level monitoring using Solution Manager. I have read a good amount about SAP Solution Manager and the concept of monitoring but need to begin mapping out a monitoring strategy.
We currently utilize the RZ20 transaction and basic CCMS monitors such as watching for update errors, availability, short dumps, etc.. What else should be monitored in order to proactively find possible issues. Are there any best practices you all have found when implimenting Monitoring for new solutions added to the SAP landscape.... what are common things we would want to monitor over say ERP, CRM, SRM, etc?
Thanks in advance for any comments or suggestions!

    Hi Mike,
Did you try the following link ?
If not, it may be useful to some extent:
    http://service.sap.com/bestpractices
---> Cross-Industry Packages ---> Best Practices for Solution Management
You have quite a few documents there - those on BPM may also cover Solution Monitoring aspects.
