Best practices of BO/BW SSO SAP Authentication transports

Hi Friends,
We are going to integrate BW system with BO (SAP authentication). All the queries are built through BICS connections. And we have various reporting tools to implement SSO SAP authentication (Webi,Crystal,Dashboard.Design studio…etc)
As per the process there are certain activities which has to be performed at BW level
e.g -- BW Roles creation (PFCG---Crystal role enablement) and assigning to BO users
Once it is created in BW , we have to do  integration at BO level( in CMC application) by selecting authentication and roles import followed by ……Groups..Users…folder and access level...
My question here is
Transports of BW objects for BO SSO (SAP) authentication (such as roles created for Users, Keystore certificate, uploads). Will these objects be transported by BW team or they will be separately downloading or uploading the certificate in different systems (like QAS  ...PROD….)
And at BO level, once I integrate BO SSO, Do I need to do manual integration in QAS and Production system as well or it can be transported with promotion management of BO tool
Will these SSO(SAP) authentication can be applied to all tools in BI Launchpad such as (Design studio,Webi,Web application,Crystal….etc)  as all users  are required to have SSO to all BO tool
Regarding LUMIRA tool , Can we do SSO authentication
Please share your thoughts and experience.
I t would be great if I get BO administration best practices document for BW BO SSO and Users and Group management  in CMC for implementing
Thanks in advance

Hi ,
Please find my answers below:
1. The roles will be created in BW and should automatically appear in BO CMC Authentication SAP roles, if there is a connectivity setup between BO and BW irrespective of the SSO.The roles are transported by the BW security team.
2. Every environement will have a unique connection to the corresponding SAP BW environment. For example SAP BW DEV will be mapped to BO DEV, SAP BW PROD will be mapped to BO PROD.So these settings cannot be migrated through Promotion Management.
3.This authentication can be applied to all tools , the SSO does not depend on the tool ,it depends on the integration between two systems which in this case are BO and SAP BW
As mentioned earlier, after integration all tools can have SSO
You can refer to a lot of help documents on this site which will help you to setup the integration between SAP BW AND SAP BO.

  • Best practice identifying ERT modules with SAP / IS-Utilities

    Hi everybody,
I'm looking for the best practice identifying ERT modules with SAP / IS-Utilities (electricity).
Here's the physical device set up :
The ERT modules are internal to the electricity meter. They're integrated into a multi purpose electronic circuit. So they can't be remove physically as a separate device.
The ERT modules are used to transmit data from the meter to a radio frequency receiver (handheld or drive-by). The main data that is transmitted is the consumption reading. So the receiver stores the ERT module number and the reading value.
They may be one or more ERT modules in a single meter, and each ERT module transmit his own specific consumption reading (energy reading, demand reading, etc...).
Each ERT module has is own manufacturer number.
    My issue is :
To find a way to identify in IS-U the ERT module within the meter's register group (or somewhere else???) in order to relate each register to his ERT module number.
The purpose of all this is to create reading orders with the ERT module number following for each register.
This way we can match, using a unique key, each reading order and his corresponding reading value uploaded from the radio frequency receiver (handheld or drive-by).
Thanks for your help and ideas on best practice.

    Hi,
    1) The system (application) environment of BI (what is integrated in it - e. g. within the portal, there is a storage for unstructured information like documents or virtual rooms for collaboration between departments - and what does it make)
Document management from RSA1 transaction of BI helps to attach any unstructured documents at specific level in BI.
    2) How does development in BI works (development environment, coding, debugging, building, deployment and test) and what is used stronger (ABAP or ABAP OO)? Here, I don't mean how to write ABAP or ABAP OO programs, only the infrastructure from development to transport to a target system
BI has got  a separate tool and GUI to perform all the Extract, Transform and load related activities. ABAP is part of BI but you don't need much extensive ABAP learning. Basic ABAP is sufficient to write routines and extractors.
    3) How is a BI system to configure as default after installation?
May be a BASIS person can help you out here about the configuration but this is not the job of BI person.
    4) Good guides (e/books) to learn ABAP and ABAP OO (as far as possible oriented on the practive)
You can search for SAM Series learn ABAP in 24 days book. This book is sufficient to learn the ABAP required for working in BI.
But except ABAP you will have to completly learn the BI system to work efficiently.

  • Best practice for the Update of SAP GRC CC Rule Set

    Hi GRC experts,
We have in a CC production system a SoD matrix that we would like to modified extensively. Basically by activating many permissions.
Which is a best practice for accomplish our goal?
Many thanks in advance. Best regards,
      Imanol

    Hi Simon and Amir
My name is Connie and I work at Accenture GRC practice (and a colleague of Imanolu2019s). I have been reading this thread and I would like to ask you a question that is related to this topic. We have a case where a Global Rule Set u201CLogic Systemu201D and we may also require to create a Specific Rule Set. Is there a document (from SAP or from best practices) that indicate the potential impact (regarding risk analysis, system performance, process execution time, etc) caused by implementing both type of rule sets in a production environment? Are there any special considerations to be aware? Have you ever implemented this type of scenario?
I would really appreciate your help and if you could point me to specific documentation could be of great assistance. Thanks in advance and best regards,

  • Best Practice AV set up on SAP Servers

    Hi,
Has anyone come across or aware of any best practice guidelines for AV setup on SAP servers, for example, which files/drives should you exclude and configuration tuning/reg-edits required. We have McAfee as our standard AV and we do use the HIPS component.
    Thanks,
    Martin

    My best advise is:
Don't run AV on a database server but rather reconfigure the local/a firewall so that only those ports are open which are necessary to run the SAP application.
Excluding files may help a bit but neverless, as soon as the AV scanner is installed it will hook up to the filesystem layer and slowing down (maybe not significantly) I/O. I've seen weird side effects in upgrades and patch installations due to an enabled scanner although the database files and executables were excluded from scanning.
If you're urged to run Windows servers then I would put them in a separate network segment with a firewall in front and enable only the necessary SAP ports (and printing ports). This has a number of advantages:
    - nasty RPC bugs can't be exploited because RPC to the SAP system should be disabled
    - there's no need to reboot the Windows machines on every "Microsoft patch day"
A virus scanner adds, especially for production database systems, an indeterministic risc to the business.

  • ECATT: SAP's Best Practice For eCATT

    Hello All,
If multiple projects are handled on same server, then the master data keep on changing due to which the screen sequences of transactions may change and hence causing the failure of earlier automated eCATT scripts.
What is the best practice recommended by SAP for such situation both in long term as well as short term considering project deadlines?
    Thanks & Regards.

    Hi SAP Developer,
as far as I know there are no best practice guides for that from SAP.
But from common experience in automating testing one can propose:
    For long term:
    - organize your processes to be tested aligned as a number of szenarios; do a test case design also incorporating test data to be used; on that base derive (master) data that can be used in common by all szenarios; all other data should be used from single szenarios exclusively;
    - use scripts also for creation of (master) data;
    - try to use internal number assignment or create numbers in your eCATT script, so that every process run uses new new data accroding it's needs
    - try to check customizing using CHETAB or BC Sets, stop the process if important settings are not there
The target of all this is to ensure, that neither customizing nor master data properties can raise different screen sequences.
Another option is to make your scripts more flexible regarding 'small' sequence changes like upcomming popups etc. when using SAPGUI command. This can be achieved by setting the 'Active' option of 'ProcessedScreen' elements.
If you use 'O' like optional, eCATT will only process the ProcessedScreen branch if the programm and dynpro number are matching the screen currently shown by SAP Gui.
Hope I could help a bit.
    Best regards
    Jens

  • What is "SAP Best Practices Baseline Versions"?

Could you help explain what is the relationship between "SAP Best Practices Baseline Versions " and
    other SAP products?
    Thanks!

1)SAP Best Practices Baseline Versions will deliver preconfigured organizational settings for different scenarios with regard to the following areas: common organizational structures, logistic organizational structures, and intercompany organizational structures. these can be implemented on any of the component based on the platform availability, and cannot be directly used. For example with out installing an SAP sysetm you cannot implement baseline versions. So the relation would be Component or Product is primarily available to use the secondary component i.e Baseline versions on it.
The SAP Best Practices Baseline Package is available in different country versions (for example, for France, Nordics, Germany,
the United States, and the U.K.). The scope of these localized versions might differ depending on country-specific needs. Please check this link: http://www.sap.com/services/pdf/BWP_SAP_Best_Practices_for_Baseline_Package.pdf
    2)The other products are
    Customer Relationship Management (CRM)
    Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)
    Product Lifecycle Management (PLM)
    Supply Chain Management (SCM)
    Supplier Relationship Management (SRM)
The SAP NetWeaver technology platform enables the composition, provisioning, and management of SAP and non-SAP applications across a heterogeneous software environment (release version from 640 to 700 and above)  Prior to the introduction of SAP NetWeaver as an integrated technology platform, SAP has developed a number of integration technologies and offered them as individual products, among them for example SAP Enterprise Portal, or SAP Exchange Infrastructure.

  • Best Practice for Significant Amounts of Data

This is basically a best-practice/concept question and it spans both Xcelsius & Excel functions:
I am working on a dashboard for the US Military to report on some basic financial transactions that happen on bases around the globe.  These transactions fall into four categories, so my aggregation is as follows:
Year,Month,Country,Base,Category (data is Transaction Count and Total Amount)
This is a rather high level of aggregation, and it takes about 20 million transactions and aggregates them into about 6000 rows of data for a two year period.
I would like to allow the users to select a Category and a country and see a chart which summarizes transactions for that country ( X-axis for Month, Y-axis Transaction Count or Amount ).  I would like each series on this chart to represent a Base.
My problem is that 6000 rows still appears to be too many rows for an Xcelsius dashboard to handle.  I have followed the Concatenated Key approach and used SUMIF to populate a matrix with the data for use in the Chart.  This matrix would have Bases for row headings (only those within the selected country) and the Column Headings would be Month.  The data would be COUNT. (I also need the same matrix with Dollar Amounts as the data).
In Excel this matrix works fine and seems to be very fast.  The problem is with Xcelsius.  I have imported the Spreadsheet, but have NOT even created the chart yet and Xcelsius is CHOKING (and crashing).  I changed Max Rows to 7000 to accommodate the data.  I placed a simple combo box and a grid on the Canvas u2013 BUT NO CHART yet u2013 and the dashboard takes forever to generate and is REALLY slow to react to a simple change in the Combo Box.
So, I guess this brings up a few questions:
    1)     Am I doing something wrong and did I miss something that would prevent this problem?
    2)     If this is standard Xcelsius behavior, what are the Best Practices to solve the problem?
    a.     Do I have to create 50 different Data Ranges in order to improve performance (i.e. Each Country-Category would have a separate range)?
    b.     Would it even work if it had that many data ranges in it?
    c.     Do you aggregate it as a crosstab (Months as Column headings) and insert that crosstabbed data into Excel.
    d.     Other ideas  that Iu2019m missing?
FYI:  These dashboards will be exported to PDF and distributed.  They will not be connected to a server or data source.
Any thoughts or guidance would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    David

  • Best practice for extracting data to feed external DW

We are having a healthy debate with our EDW team about extracting data from SAP.  They want to go directly against ECC tables using Informatica and my SAP team is saying this is not a best practice and could potentially be a performance drain.  We are recommending going against BW at the ODS level.  Does anyone have any recommendations or thoughts on this?

    Hi,
As you asked for Best Practice, here it is in SAP landscape.
    1. Full Load or Delta Load data from SAP ECC to SAP BI (BW): SAP BI understand the data element structure of SAP ECC, and delta mechanism is the continous process of data load from a SAP ECC (transaction system) to BI (Analytic System).
    2. You can store transaction data in DSOs (granular level), and in InfoCubes (at a summrized level) within SAP BI. You can have master data from SAP ECC coming into SAP BI separately.
    3. Within SAP BI, you SHOULD use OpenHub service to provide SAP BI data to other external system. You must not connect external extractor to fetch data from DSO and InfoCube to target system. OpenHub service is the tool that faciliate data feeding to external system. You can have Informatica to take data from OpenHubs of SAP BI.
Hope I explain to best of your satisfaction.
    Thanks,
    S

  • Best practice for migrating IDOCs?

Subject: Best practice for migrating IDOC's?
    Hi,
I need to migrate some IDOC's to another system for 'historical reference'.
However, I don't want to move them using the regular setup as I don't want the inbound processing to be triggered.
The data that was created in the original system by the processed IDOC's will be migrated to the new system using migration workbench. I only need to migrate the IDOC's as-is due to legal requirements.
What is the best way to do this? I can see three solutions:
    A) Download IDOC table contents to a local file and upload them in the new system. Quick and dirty approach, but it might also be a bit risky.
    B) Use LSMW. However, I'm not sure whether this is feasible for IDOC's.
    C) Using ALE and setting up a custom partner profile where inbound processing only writes the IDOC's to the database. Send the IDOC's from legacy to the new system. Using standard functionality in this way seems to me to be the best solution, but I need to make sure that the IDOC's once migration will get the same status as they had in the old system.
    Any help/input will be appreciated
    Regards
    Karl Johan
PS. For anyone interested in the business case: Within EU the utility market was deregulated a few years ago, so that any customer can buy electricity from any supplier. When a customer switches supplier this is handled via EDI, in SAP using ALE and IDOC's. I'm working on a merger between two utility companies and for legal reasons we need to move the IDOC's. Any other data is migrated using migration workbench for IS-U.
