Best settings for importing HD movies to ATV for video gallery

hello -
i work for a gallery, and we have a video artist who will be showing HD videos here for 2-3 months. we bought 2 AppleTVs to use to show the movies, and i'm trying to figure out the best way to convert the material and get the files on there.
using the "Create Apple TV version" doesn't preserve the HD quality of the originals, which i know aren't compatible natively. i was hoping there is a place in the settings for the ATV where i could at least review the video codec in use when converting in iTunes, but there doesn't seem to be a place for it. am i blind or is there no choice in the matter?
i've tried converting in Quicktime Pro using the settings that are on the ATV specs page, and i was successful once (in a short excerpt without much video movement) but no longer (using an excerpt that has more color, movement, etc). the bit rate is too high i'm guessing, tho i've tried to limit it to 5000 k/sec. it ends up coming out 18m / sec for some reason......
for some reason i can't get handbrake to open the file.
any thoughts? we can't afford to buy new computers to stream the original off of, so we're hoping the ATV can show the movies in the highest def possible. she sent them in 720p50 format, so i had to buy a decoder plugin to view them (DVCPro HD from Calibrated Software).
thanks in advance

  • Whats the best settings to rip DVD to Mpeg Streamclip for use in FCE??

    Hi there.
Ok, I using MPEG Streamclip to rip a DVD for editing on FCE.
Whats the best settings to get it to my hard drive?
    MPEG4?? Compression rate??
    Chris

Assuming your DVD plays widescreen, the better settings in MPEG Streamclip would be:
    Export to QuickTime
    Compression = Apple Intermediate Codec
    Frame size = 1920x1080
Pretty much everything else should remain at default settings.
Keep in mind that if you have an NTSC DVD, the resulting QT/AIC video will be 60i.
In FCE, select the AVCHD 1920x1080i60 easy setup, create a new sequence, import the converted file and edit away. The quality should be very nice.

  • Best Settings to import Native 525 interlaced 29.97 AJA codec 10 bit uncompressed masters in CS5.

This is the note from the post house. "These are all 525 interlaced masters and digitized as that. So the ingest was native 525 29.97 AJA codec 10 bit uncompressed. Your timeline will have to match these settings. As with all telecine at that time, there was no 23.98 (24P) transfers. Hence all film is 3:2 pulldown and should be constant cadence although it might not be."
I have tried everything I can think of and burned test clips to DVD's as well. The best I have gotten was jumping over to progressive because the interlacing is a mess otherwise. These clips are all .mov. 720 X 486, when I drag them on the timeline it makes them progressive but the titles still jump. This is a turn key PC based system. THey came to me in .mov format.
    Any Ideas?  Thanks!

I recently had to convert some clips from a very old Matrox system, with clips delivered in the Matrox codec at 720x486. First, in the Bin, check the clip Properties and look at the field order, should be Lower First. Use Modify > Interpret if needed to correct. Sequence settings should be 720x486, NOT 720x480.
For export, DVD is 720x480, so you would need to use CROP settings in AME to remove the 6 extra lines. Which ones? Trial and error. I ran a series of short test clips (same clip exported multiple ways), trying Top and Bottom settings of 6,0 and 5,1 and 4,2 and so forth, naming clips accordingly to keep track of results. These clips were dropped into a 720x480 sequence and reviewed to see which looked the best to determine final output settings.
I hope you find this helpful.

  • Support for importing & renaming movies

I'd really like to see Lightroom import movies and allow them to be renamed using custom templates. Otherwise, I have to remember to go back & import the movies separately then rename them individually which consumes time. It's easy to forget that you have movies on the memory card after importing images.
Please Lightroom, add this feature in an update.
    Thanks.

My point is that the documentation says that the application will read the metadata and can show it in the Metadata panel. After Effects doesn't use the XMP metadata to apply image adjustments.
You can submit feature requests here:

  • Looking for a good movie maker app for iPad 1

    Hi Everybody-
I am looking for a good Photo/Movie maker for the iPad 1. Something that I can add Photos/Movies together and add some songs and have editing capabilities for all of it and possiabily export it as well to my PC to burn to DVD/CD.
So if anybody can give my recomondations, I'd really appriciate it.There some good ones, but not for the iPad 1. So I wanted to get all of your suggestions so I can narrow down my search. Please let me know if you need further information as well.
Thanks so much for your time.
    Sincerely- Douglas

There are no movie maker apps in the App Store that will work well on the iPad 1, it just doesn't have enough RAM. If you read the reviews for the Avid app in the App Store everyone with an iPad 1 is complaining about it. iMovie, as you probably already knew, does not have a version for the iPad 1.
Wait for the iPad 3 and then set about making movies, the 1 (which I also have) just does not have the horsepower for what you want to do.

  • Best settings to make QT movie from 23.98 timeline projecting from MacBook

    Hi,
I want to screen a 4 minute FCP project to a big screen from a projector hooked up directly to my MacBook Pro.
Since the project is so small, I figure I can get a better image by playing the uncompressed file directly from my HD. Since I don't think I can get a full screen image from FCP, I plan to export the timeline as a QT movie and play that using QT in full screen mode. Correct so far?
Assuming I am, my question has to do with the FCP export settings to QT. Since the project was cut on a 23.98 timeline, would I gain anything by exporting to QT using the NTSC 48khz - 23.98 setting? Or would I get the same result using the standard NTSC 48khz (30 fps) setting?
In other words, since I'm not compressing the file for DVD, I'm wondering if I won't get a better QT image using export settings that match the project's FCP timeline settings?

Just to clarify, when you open an export to QT window from the FCP timeline, is QT default "current settings" smart enough to read the timeline and set those "current settings" to the optimal for that particular timeline?
For some reason I'd always assumed 'current settings' meant last settings, ie, wherever the QT settings was placed most recently. But from what you recommend, it would appear that this is not the case--that, in fact, the QT "current settings" default constantly readjusts to the specs of whatever project or timeline you're trying to import into it from FCP. Correct?

  • Adobe After Effects CC Doesn't recognize Alpha Key for imported DNxHD (.mov) clips

After Upgrading To Adobe CC, we faced a problem when we try to import our HD assets (Quicktime .mov Codec: DnxHD 1080i 120). they are imported as one layer.. there NO Alpha key.
These Clips dont have such problem when we import them into Adobe After Effects CS6.
Please Adobe, we need a fast solution. this is urgent.
Note that we tried to download the last version of AVIDCodecLE package with no result!
    thanks for any idea.

ADOBE - THIS IS ABSURD - FIX THE DAMN BUG
Our studio waited until now to update - what a huge mistake, waste of money, waste of time. Fortunately, older versions still run fine on the systems we "upgraded".
We have years of assets that no longer work correctly in CC or CC14. We are a major production studio with literally thousands of assets that exist in a multi million dollar ISIS system. CC and CC2014 are worthless until this gets fixed. I'm sitting here looking like a amateur because nothing works. THANKS GUYS! - No, we're NOT going to go back and "re-render" all of those assets. We will just continue to use the no monthly fee Cs6, forever.
We will not be renewing any of our "contracts" until this bug is fixed (about 30 licenses). Back to CS6.

  • Best settings to import .tod video to imovie11

A friend has sent me vids in format .tod that I need to edit in imovie11 to produce tutorials which will be uploaded to youtube to be viewed on computers probably (or possibly mobile devices). I will use MPEG Streamclip to convert and have already updated component so it works fine with Mavericks.
I would like the best quality possible given the limitations of the quality of the raw data.
What output format yields best quality for imovie11, and what settings should I select?
I may have clicked and chosen some that are completely wrong, but this is the window I need to fill:
    Thanks so much in advance!!!

.. Where would proRes-codec be installed on my mac and where would I be choosing it?
if installed, it would be offered in Streamclips 'Compression' selector/drop-down-menu ....
proRes comes along with installation of any 'pro' software, as FCPX, Motion or Logic. Do NOT use any 'free' codec-packages from the internet , this could hurt your whole system.-

as mentioned before: Streamclip is excellent in its convenience, meant for the 'beginner' as you, but allows the expert to dig deeper - if needed, if mastered
It's basically impossible to give a short summary over the hundreds of options this tool gives, aside you would need tons of fundamental knowledge to understand it.
concerning resolution: '1080' is the abrv. of 1920x1080.
    there's two (and a half…) HDef resolutions: 1280x720 aka '720' (marketing lingo: hd-ready), 1920x1080 aka '1080' (marketing lingo: full-hd), and there was 1440x1080, which on playback gets stretched (=anamorphic) into 1920x1080  ...
sorry for not going too much into detail - there's frequently the request for a website/book/source explaing 'The Colorful World Of Codecs' … within the last 15y I'm interesting in that issue, I haven't found any useful . We once had a here a fellow, who copied/pasted some public avail. articles and tried to sell it here... no fun.-
wikipedia is a good start, but you'll soon get lost into details way above the average understanding (as mine...).

  • What's the best way of importing, editing, exporting and watching AVCHD videos without losing quality?

Whenever I import AVCHD (.mts extension files) to Final Cut Pro X (via Import from camera), iMovie, Adobe Premiere Elements 10 or Adobe Premiere Pro CS4; when I later export those videos to any format I can imagine, I can't get the same quality than when I play them through the camera connected by HDMI to TV (the camera's movements are not any smooth).
How have you solved this problem? Is it just me?
By the way, maybe the problem is in watching: what apps do you use to play the exported media? Do you watch the final videos just on TV? Do you create blu-ray discs?
I was also wondering what would happen if I created a blu-ray image, have you tried this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Pol

My video was shot by a Canon HF100 at 1440x1080 25fps 1080i 25i (interlaced) and imported to Final Cut Pro X without transcoding to ProRes (1st time) and transcoding (2nd time).
The project settings are set to: set automatically based on 1st video clip (so they're 1440x1080 1080i 25i) and I used to leave Audio and Render to default settings (Surround, 48kHz, ProRes 422), but I have also done a few tests with ProRes 422 HQ and Uncompressed 10-bit 4:2:2. Should I try with ProRes 4444?
I usually export the project using Current settings (in video codec), and I've also burned an AVCHD DVD (I plybacked it on PlayStation 3 - also looked choppy). I've also exported to H.264 codec.
The video looks choppy on Mac played by Quicktime and VLC. The video I could export to MP4 also looked choppy on PlayStation 3 and Samsung LED TV.
    Thanks for taking your time,
    Pol

  • Best way to import from iTunes & audio lock to video?

I just started with PrE 10 and am coming from years with iMovie HD6 (never liked the later versions). Can audio tracks be dragged from iTunes (by having 2 minimal sized windows of each application open) into the Project area? Or do you need to try and find each song by going through the whole Get Media  File/Folder link process? I've tried dragging a few songs from iTunes, and it didn't seem to work (it was very easy in iMovie). I was able to add photos to the Project area from iPhoto by dragging them over from the iPhoto window.
Also, is there a way to lock (or link) the beginning of an added audio/soundtrack clip to a video clip, so that it does not inadvertently get moved, or so that if you move the video clip, or delete an earlier video clip, the locked audio goes with that video clip?
[Moved to the Premiere Elements main forum]

With Audio, you need to Import the file (Get Media), as Premiere needs to Conform the Audio, creating both a CFA (Conformed Audio) file, and a PEK (Waveform Display) file, and link to those.
Now, with iTunes, there can be some problems, though things have gotten a bit better recently. If you DO have an issue, you can create a Playlist in iTunes, and copy over all the files that you need for your Project, then burn a CD of that Playlist. The Audio-CD will be in the CDA container in as a WAV file, which should Import just fine, into PrE.
Actually, it might be easier, even if the iTunes music does Import, to create a Playlist in iTunes, where you can drag and drop right from the iTunes GUI, and then Import from that Playlist.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Best method to combine Instant Movie (Theme) with regular video?

I’m creating a video and I would like to use a theme for a slideshow, yet leave the rest of the video (first 16 minutes) alone. I currently have two separate projects, one with my regular video footage and one project with the instant movie theme.  So, if there is a way to copy and paste one project into another that would be perfect, yet I have not seen that option. What is the best way to accomplish this? I was thinking I could export the instant movie and then add the media to my existing project, yet I’m not sure what format to use so I don’t lose quality. The video is AVCHD (1920 x 1024), and I would eventually like to burn everything to a Blue-ray disc when I get a burner, yet for now DVD will do. Thoughts?

I like the idea of doing everything in one project, yet I’m guessing I would have an issue with doing so since the video in the timeline has been edited and the video within the available media section is the raw video (I think that is correct).  However, this should work great for the stills, yet I’m not sure about the video.
My main concern is torching the non-theme video by applying a theme…
To do what you are saying; would I simply select the images (hold down CTRL and select or smart tag them?) from the media selection screen within the interface and…?

  • PO for Imported material: Purchasing Info. record for Customs Duty

    All SAP Gurus,
We are very oftenly preparing Import PO.
During creation of each PO, we are maintaining customs duty (JCDB, JCV1, JECV, J1CV, JEDB, JSDB, JADC) related condition types and its vendor manually.
We have also tried to insert these condition types (JCDB, JCV1, JECV, J1CV, JEDB, JSDB, JADC) in Purchasing Info Records, but system is giving the error message as 'Condition type JCDB is not in procedure A M RM1002'.
    How, to resolve this.
    Please help.
    Regards,
    rajan

    Hi,
Instead of maintaining JCDB, JCV1, JECV, J1CV, JEDB, JSDB, JADC in Purchase Inforecords, mainatin condition records for these condition types in MEK1, here you can also assign Vendor Code of "Customs Office" to these conditions. So you do not have to enter it everytime in PO.
JCDB     IN:Basic Custom Duty (12% or 7% as applicable)
    JCV1     IN : CVD (16%)
JECV     IN : Ed Cess on CVD (2%)
    J1CV     IN : H&SECess on CVD (1%)
JEDB     IN : Ed Cess on BCD (2%)
    JSDB     IN : H&SECess on BCD (1%)
JADC     Addnl Duty of Custom (4%)
Create a condition table with field "Purchase Org."
Create an Access Sequence with this condition table
Assign this Access Sequence to all above condition types
And mainatin condition record for all above condition types in MEK1
Config Path: - SPRO > MM > Purchasing > Conditions > Define Price Determination Process

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CC Support for Importing / Exporting H.265 (HEVC) 4K Video

    Hi there,
Does any know about how to export 4K content direct from premiere pro in the new H.265 HEVC codec in 4K resolution, or do you know of any third party software for Mac that can do this?
I am having a problem finding a solution and frankly am surprised that this isn't already included in Premiere Pro CC.  Thanks for the help!
I ask because I am exporting VERY large 4K files (they are 1-2 hour long Nature Relaxation videos) and so naturally being able to export at the new H.265 would be a blessing!
    Thanks for the help!
    Dave

I'm having the exact same problem with my machine!!! I was so excited to run across your post / thread, just because I've dealt with this since December as well.
    MBPr (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013)
Processor  2.7 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 4000 /  NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M
Apple replaced the logic board in my machine in December after determining a bad GPU. Same exact screens and problems, glitches.. Sometimes getting kicked out of my account. When I log back in, it's just a matter of a few minutes before it locks up.
First I was thinking it was the CUDA driver.. Uninstalled it.. Still have the issues.. Apple pushed me to split my SSD and install a clean OS X install, new user.. reinstall apps.. Still have the same issues..
Went around this with Apple in February/March.. Was killing me with deadlines. Now, I'm back working on several large projects and for the past few weeks, the crashes and machine freeze ups are killing me. Got fed up and I'm back trying to seek help through Apple Executive Relations. I've spent countless hours trying to diagnose, working with support, visiting the local Apple store..
The kicker is that we have three of these exact machines in my team at work, all using the same Adobe CC apps/Premiere Pro.. Mine is the only one that is doing this. I will have graphic glitches when the machine wakes from sleep. I also have the screen changing color profiles -- you can see it shift (I have my machine color calibrated) from the default to the custom profile.
I would be happy to post a bunch of photos of the same graphic issues.. I have no solution at this point. Adobe, can you help us? I still believe it is a GPU issue and not software related.

  • Best Settings for N Only Network.

I am trying to create an N only network with an AirPort Extreme 802.11n router. What are the best settings to use? Here is what I currently have. Also, just bought a previous generation MacBook Pro (one right before the new glass screen ones, do I need to use the N enabler?).
    802.11n only (5 ghz)
    Channel: Automatic
    Security: WPA2
    Multicast Rate: 6 mbps
    Use wide channels is selected.
    Thank you.

I am trying to create an N only network with an AirPort Extreme 802.11n router. What are the best settings to use?
Are you looking for the best settings for speed or overall speed and security?
    For speed:
    o 802.11n only (5 GHz)
    o Wide-channel enabled
o Channel: <Will depend if there are other 5 GHz Wi-Fis or interference nearby. In that case, you can choose a different channel by holding down the Option key before making the selection in the AirPort Utility.>
    o Security: None
o Multicast Rate: This determines the minimum bandwidth that a device must achieve in order to connect to the router. To eliminate slower devices, use the highest value possible.
    For speed & security:
The same settings as above with Security set to WPA2 Personal
