What is the best tool to use to make professional looking
icons and buttons for web development? Is it Ilustrator?

for it,i have set the iconic property of the buttons to yes and also set the path of .ico file to the property.
but still icon is not visible at the button at all.
i also tried for image to display on the button.
but facing unsuccess.
so pl help me in this matter.

Icon size not more then square of 32. mens 32 by 32
icon path should be full path without extension or following type
C:\icon\save
or
icon\savecompile and test.

Oh, you wanted an alternative to HTML? Javascript isn't. It's just supplemental.
There's no real alternative to HTML. You can use Flash, JavaFX or Silverlight, but either you still need to embed it in a HTML page or it (auto)generates plain HTML.
As I don't have practical experience with JavaFX, I can't tell when it will be "perfect" for a web application.
There's a JavaFX subforum out here, try browsing it, there are fairly a lot of "JavaFX or not?" topics there.

I'm making a simple 6 page site using DW for a class. I want
the navagational buttons to have some flair. I can't code yet, but
am learning. I have soo many tools I don't know which to use.
Flash? PS and Image Ready? Ill. ? The site is my entire grade. The
class is on DW, which I can do, just wanted to have different
appearances for onmouseover, onmousedown and other.
Is Flash the best app. for this?

editor, whether
it be Microsoft Paint, Photoshop Elements, Fireworks,
Photoshop, Xara, etc.
Make the button graphics in your graphics editor, and place
them on the page
in DW.

Make a button with an icon

Hi all.
I have a new problem. I want to make a button as an icon e.g. when I push a button to open a file I want to display the button with the icon.
I'm on devsuite 10g.
Can someone tell me which are the steps to follow to do this???

Try to specify only one extension, .ico in Forms Builder are more accurate in size. Try it.

How does one best make a button to jump around a PDF (interactive) on an ipad.

I have been trying to figure out how to make an Interactive PDF document that could be loaded into an iPad.
We need one: Buttons to jump around the document for navigation purposes. A button would be eaiser to press on an iPad and if each page is designed the same people will know where "main menu" and the subsection buttons are and should be able to bounch back and forth in the document pretty easily.
It seems that with Indesign CS5 you can make goto buttons but when you try and export them... Acrobat will not honor the goto commands so your left for dead.
Yes it will work nicely with export to SWF and work marviously with a flash output but there's no way to look at flash content on the iPad.
So I've found stuff on the web talking about bookmarks and text anchors but it seems like there are limitations with that as well.
What confuses me further is when 3rd party PDF viewers claim they can use goto page number.

So is this an indesign issue? An Acrobat 9 pro issue? I don't get it.
It seems so simple. Just want to button that would take you to say page 1. and on page 1 have a button that takes you to page 4.

SWF is very cool. But unfortunatly Steve J's personal vendettia with Flash is making it hell for simple users....

woodwing seems to have a nice toolset to make it easier for sure... but I'm not sure that is the correct direction for
us. As we don't want to have to submit anything to Apple. Our needs are for internal use only and we would not be creating content for the public.
I don't follow the ePup process fully... PDF's we can load right onto the iPad. It's a real shame about flash not working as we can make some very slick flash content right out of indesign with little effort. (maybe the direction should be a Flash to HTML5 converter? Goto page commands assigned to buttons would be wonderfull if they worked but when you export the doc to PDF Acrobat complains that it is not compatible. When we export to flash it works like a charm on a PC.
Haven't found a good gudie for bookmarks yet... and if that would give us buttons on each page to move the user back and forth through the document.

Best way to make a toggle button

I want to take an ordinary button, and make it toggleable.
Toggleable.
What an awesome word.
Anyway.
What I really want to do is make a button stick in its down state when pressed. And the next time it's pressed it should go back to its normal state.
So my question is: is it possible to change the state of the Button class programmatically so that it renders as pressed?
My current solution involves using IconButton and a custom onDraw. But I think that's a lot of work for something so little.
Any pointers are welcome.

Any idea why the image jumps around to different positions when you press a button with text? If you run it in Photoshop there's some monkey business with the hover state as well..

Best way to make a booklet?

What's the best way to make a booklet on my Mac? I need to make something that is 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 (so regular paper folded in half) allowing me to put 4 pages on one sheet of paper.
In the past, I've been able to make full sized pages, and make booklets via the copy machine at school (think music programs here) but someone recently told me there are ways to do this on a mac so that I could make as booklet and just bring to staples to print.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

For starters, look at the "more like this" list on the right side of this page.
Then there is the answer I've used for several years.
1 - For a folded US letter-size booklet start with your Pages document in Legal size & larger than normal font size. Export the Pages document to a PDF & then drag the PDF to the icon of Cocoa Booklet. It will create a new PDF in booklet form. For international paper sizes, create the Pages document in the larger size with a larger font, i.e. create A4 pages to create A5 folded booklets. You can also use US tabloid or A3 to create larger booklets.
Next you'll need to use Create Booklet Service to create a booklet with any number of pages (best in a multiple of 4). You can create the booklet directly from the print dialog after you install the service. Again, for US letter size booklets, I find it best to create them in legal size as above. Downlond it from the link & run its installer. It will open the booklet in Preview. If you're using Lion, I suggest using File > Export to save the PDF where you can find it.
2 - This involves setting your Pages document in File > Page Setup… to landscape orientation & then paginating the document manually.
Use linked text boxes. This is easier done with the layout showing. First you need to add a page break to have two pages. Click in the body area & then Insert > Page Break. Now click outside the layout area to enter object mode & click the "T" in the tool bar or Insert > Text to create a text box & type something in it. This is to keep the box from disappearing if you click elsewhere & the text can be replaced later. If you already have some text to paste in you can just paste while in object mode & a text box containing your text will be created. You will now need to click outside the layout again & drag the cursor toward the text box to select it. You can now position the first text box in the lower right of your 2-page document. It is easier to see where it goes if you have the document set up with 2 columns. Click on the blue-outlined tab at the lower right of the text box to create a new of the same size & move the box to the upper left. Repeat for a box for the upper right & again for the lower right. You will now have 4 linked text boxes.
This will not let you automatically use page numbers because Pages "sees" each page & you actually have 2 pages per page. You'll need to create them manually. I would use text boxes.

How to add a minimize to system tray icon button?

how can i add a minimize to system tray icon button near the others common buttons usually found on the upper right window bar? (i mean near the _ [] X)

like in many programs the fourth button is a dot shaped one that minimizes the program to system tray

You can't (easily). The window decorations are controled by the operating system. Your best bet is to change the functionality of the minimize-to-taskbar button and make it into a minimize-to-tray button. In fact, all the programs that minimize to the tray on my computer - about 6 of them - do it this way.

Make transparent "buttons" just for function?

I tried to make hyperlinks when I click text of vita, art,
statement, for example.
I just want to make sure what I am doing is right.
- Instead of making buttons for each of text ( i.e., vita,
art, statement),
- I will make one transparent "button" symbol (which means
just 0% alpha setting for color on Up/Over/Down but some color on
Hit state).
- then I will place this transparent button under the each
text.
- then, select each button, and make get URL actionscript.
Is this transparent button will work do you think?
One more question. If I put this button under "statement"
text, can I scale to make bigger enough to cover the text?
Or do you make each button symbols for vita, art, statement
of text?

Actually, *all* you need is some shape on the Hit frame. The
other
frames can be empty. That makes it easiest.

No, no! Use one single button symbol -- that's the whole
point: one
symbol used for many purposes ... saves on SWF file size and
makes your
Library less cluttered.

That all depends on how you're handling those button events.
Back in
Flash 5 (that's quite a while ago), you had to use on() or
onClipEvent(),
but since Flash MX (aka 6), it's been possible to put all
your code into a
single script layer. This is the current recommended "best
practice," and I
agree with it. Just give each button instance -- in this
case, each copy of
that single "invisible" button -- an instance name. You
accomplish that by
selecting each button on the Stage, in turn, and filling in
the Instance
Name field in the Property inspector.
Then use each instance name in a frame script and assign a
function to
the Button.onRelease event for each:

Import it to the stage in Flash. you will need to change your
frame rate to that of the video. However, you should read up on
using the flv format. Video to swf makes bulky files...
Also, you should be asking how to do it with Flash. If you

How may I change the height of the menu bar to allow my large icons/buttons to maintain their size?

I recently updated from FF28 to FF31. Totally different UI, I get that. I waited to update until I could psych myself to try something different. I have the Default Australis Theme and Noia Fox Theme, which is designed with larger icons/buttons for those with visual needs. On my screen at the moment I have the title bar, menu bar, tab bar, and url/addon bar with the "hamburger" menu to the right. I placed icons in the menu bar, kept the home icon on the addon bar, and then there are the default icons in the menu popup. When I enable the Noia Fox Theme, the icons look great on the url/addon bar, even in the menu popup; clear, large, easy to see. However, the icons in the menu bar (not the menu popup) are less than half their original/intended size. So I switch to default Australis Theme, restart, and same issue, though not quite as dramatic since Default theme is smaller to begin with.
My thinking then is that there is a setting within the menu bar which resizes the icons/buttons to a small default size. Can this setting be changed to allow the icons to retain their original size (or close to it) and if so, how? I like the location of the menu bar on my screen, below the title bar, above the tab bar. Works nicely with the new The Fox Only Better addon which attaches to the tab bar and hides the url bar, a "new" feature for me and I'm liking it. I know I can get CTR with an additional bar, and I did try that. The issue then is that the additional bar appears below the tab bar and is not movable to above the tab bar and below the title bar.
At the moment, I have just the two themes, security addons added and The Fox Only Better. I've not added other appearance addons yet so as to keep potential conflicts/issues to a minimum. I've not tinkered with internal FF default settings other than to say don't track me (I think that's all I did). So to the best of my limited understanding, I've kept changes and customizations to a minimum. And yes, per your educated guess feature for questions posted, I am running Win 8.1 and FF 31.
I think I've offered enough detail so others can try to duplicate the issue. If not, let me know and I'll try to respond as soon as I can. Thanks so much for any help offered.

You can double the height of the menu bar area using a custom style rule. I couldn't immediately find an icon that would take advantage of the space so I'm not sure this will solve the problem, but you could try it.
The custom style rule could be as simple as:

I have tried the following workarounds but no couldn't make it possible:
1. I gave absolute path of icon file.
2. tried .ico and .gif format images as well.
