Best video converter?

I'm trying to convert multiple HD .mov files but they end up unuseable in Premiere. I've tried many different output formats but none of them seem to work. Super converter is pretty good but I can't seem to get the orignal size of the video. it's locked in one aspect ratio and it looks all screwed. Is there a media converter that handles all kinds of file formats and output settings?

It is better to recapture the HD in Premiere Pro.

What is the best video converter for DVD to iMovie? Either free or to purchase.  And one that is 'fool-proof' and very easy to use.  Many thanks, anyone who can advise.

You want to 'reverse engineer' the compressed mpeg2 DVD file back to something iMovie can use?
You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
(unless you are running Lion in which case see below))
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.
And from the TOU of these forums:
    Keep within the Law
No material may be submitted that is intended to promote or commit an illegal act.
Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store.
    If you are running Lion:
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it.
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

I would like to know which is the best video converter software for my MBP.
the software should convert files very quickly, most software takes too much time.
So, please help me to identify one.

Handbrake is a good program, handles most formats and will output files compatible with many devices
As to speed: this is down to CPU and RAM.

Friends can you tell me what is the best video converter (asf into AVI) for mac ox 10.5.8 leopard ppc?

Hi Mazdauk, To convert ASF to AVI, I recommend you the iorgsoft video converter which I have been using. It claims to support ASF as input and AVI as output. Anyway, I haven't converted ASF to AVI, most of the time, I convert MTS to MP4. You can have a try first.

  • What is the best video converter for high quality MPEG-4 for Apple TV?

What is the best video converter for high quality MPEG-4 for Apple TV?

Handbrake won't convert AVI files, But there are many more than those mentioned that will
The choice of conversion software is a personal choice, I have around a dozen applications that will tackle AVI's, however VisualHub is not one of them, not because there is anything wrong with it but rather I have enough such applications in my arsenal already.
I would use mpegstreamclip in most scenarios for what you are wanting to do but maybe not always. It is a good idea to have a few applications to choose from as not all do the same thing. mpegstreamclip has a few more options than some bog standard applications without becoming overburdening with choices.
You might want to try a few applications yourself before deciding on the software for you. isquint is a free limited version of visualhub, you might want to give that a whirl to get a feeling for visualhub.
Be aware though that quality conversions do not happen quickly, claims of being faster than other applications may well be correct, but are usually a trade off against quality. Again you need to choose your software to reflect your preferred balance between speed and quality.
Here's how I use mpegstreamclip, http://web.me.com/gartside1104/z008/Mpegstreamclip.html but your AVI's may well be low quality, you shouldn't set the bitrate any higher than your source file and likely lower, you shouldn't increase the frame size either.

  • What is the best video converter for iPhone?

My last question was deleted I guess because I was not specific enough. I have a Sony DCR-DVD108 DVD Handycam® Camcorder which writes everything onto mini DVDs. I am looking for a good video converter to convert my home movies with. I am using Roxio Crunch, but it doesn't do as good of a job as I had hoped. What is the best video converter to use?
P.S. Please don't delete my question again Apple.

It was probably deleted because you said that it was in violation of the TOU, which I have read. I own all rights to DVDs which I myself have created, and I give myself permission to copy said DVDs for whatever reasons I wish. I am in no way violating the TOU: "Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store" because I am in no way trying to "work around" any sort of DRM, and I created the home movies and in no way was the iTunes Store involved; that is unless somehow a movie of my nephew's birthday is now available on iTunes. And I don't own an iPod video, I own an iPhone, which is why the question says "What is the best video converter FOR IPHONE?" and is why I am in an iPhone forum.

  • Which is the best video converter for Final Cut Pro 7?

Hi, I am using Fincal Cut Pro 7.0.3 and I am looking to find the most compatible, most efficient video converter to work with my FCP 7, I need import vidoe file formats such as AVI, MPEG, MTS to edtiting in FCP 7, and I am having hard time to converting them, even I managed to convert them and imported them into FCP they need rendering again and again in FCP and that wasted me tons to precisous time.
Any suggestions?  Thank you so very much!
    Kevin

Compressor.  Second, I would choose Episode.  But then MPEG Streamclip is very usefull when convert from many of the MPEG formats.  Keep in mind that formats such as those you listed are merely wrappers; the codec contained within could be one of dozens of codec, some of which may not convert well.

  • The best video converter for Final Cut Express format?

I used to have a registration code for Visual Hub so I could convert files from my video camera so they would work with final cut express. My computer crashed awhile back so I lost my registration information (they are no longer selling these codes). Does anyone know a really good (fairly easy to use) video converter? Or maybe like to share a registration code :-)!

I would like one that can do many different formats like Visual Hub did, but the file I am converting is a MPEG file. Also, I have some stuff that I made into a DVD using a Sony DVD burner and I needed to get those files converted.

  • I need the best video converter

hopefuly it will not loose any quality and i would like one that worked with any video formats
even tho im mainlly converting mts to final cut pro
By the way what is the best format for me to use on final cut pro x
    thanks

Okay from my quick research, it looks like you need to import MTS files with the dialog "Import from camera" instead of just import files.
However if none of this works I'd take the Streamclip route. Technically, yes, any video conversion is going to degrade the quality of your footage, but there's no way around it and the loss will be completely imperceptible to your (or anyone else's eyes). Repeat that conversion 1000+ times then that's a different story.
Squared 5 will absolutely not take (or even be aware of) your footage if you use Streamclip. If you're concerned about it, though, disable your Internet connection during the duration of your file conversion. But I guarantee you, they won't steal anyone's footage nor would they have any need to.
If you want quality, I would recommend converting to ProRes 422 (HQ) at 100% quality with no scaling enabled.

  • Whats the best video converter?

tell me the pros and cons and the conbersion speeds and what codes it can read, thanks.

Videora is buggy-this forum is rife with people seeking help with videora problems.
You also did not specify what OS.
I assume you mean conversion speed(since "conbersion" is not a word)-a lot of that depends on your system-amount of ram, dual core/single core, chip speed, etc.
    Codes it can read?
I guess you mean codecs it can convert from/to.
My suggestion is quit being lazy and do your own research to find what you like best.
    I use the following:
Mpeg streamclip (OS X and Windows) http://www.squared5.com/
    Media coder(windows) http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/download.htm
    Handbrake(OS X) http://handbrake.m0k.org/
