Best way of adding networking site URLs in Address Book?

If I want to add links to friend's MySpace, Facebook, LiveJournal, Blogger, etc. to their Cards in Address Book, is there a good way of doing this?
It appears a Custom label can only be added to an individual card, then has to be re-added to other cards. Is there some way to add it for all cards? Do custom labels cause problems with MobileMe or exporting address cards?
What's the difference between "Home" and "Home Page," which appear as two of the default options for URLs?

Go to Preferences in Address Book.
Select Template
From Drop Down - Add Field, select URL.
You will see URL appear in the template below with tiny up/down arrow. Click on that and add Custom name.

  • Best Practice for Shared Contacts available as an Address Book in Outlook??

    Yep so crazy that Microsoft still refuses (by design) to enable address book option for Shared contacts!!!!!!!  So I am asking what do they suggest then for my clients to have a shared contact list that is available as an address book and available
    to sync to your phone?
    Problem:
    I have a client that the boss has a contact list in his outlook that he has synced to his phone that is shared so that everyone else on his team can see the contacts, since it is a shared contact list users are not able to add it to their address book (by
    design..nice design)
    Solutions I know of:
    1.Use public folder for contact list...= Nope public folder contact list will not sync with his iphone/ipad...(yes there are 3rd party tools but I would prefer to not go this route)
    2.Sharepoint....I have heard this one but don't know much about it.   How does it sync to outlook and phones?  Is it seemless?  can user add contacts in outlook?
    3. ??
    Seems like this would be a huge issue that microsoft would have fixed by now.  Let me know if anyone has any ideas...
    Sbs 2003 I will miss you !!!!

  • Best way to increase network or broadband coverage...

    Hi, hoping someone can help me out with a networking question.
    I have BT infinity coming into a bungalow, the hub is centrally located in the house and we get good wireless signal in all rooms.
    I have an external garage with back office adjacent to the house at the end of the property. My computer would physically be approx 25mts away from the infinity hub, but due to a number of walls, no signal can be reached. I do not have phone lines sockets coming into this building either.
    What is the best way for me to get wireless (or any broadband signal) into the office. I tried the adaptors that you put into the power supply and they do work, but broadband signal is not very strong.
    Is it possible to use another router as a repeater, or to spread my network (I have a spare Netgear DGN2000 router that we had before infinity), or any other ideas?
    Many thanks for any advice here. Regards, John.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Dave, thanks for the link, Im a bit clearer now on difference between wireless repeater and access point.
    @Alan, yes thick walls, 4 of the buggers.
    I am using Netgear XAV101 power socket thingamajiggies. They are working, just do not seem to be getting as fast a speed reading as I do when in the house on the wireless so Im wondering about interferrance on the cables.
    Perhaps there are some newer ones available with improved speed.
    I have this NETGEAR DGN2000 here which is what we used before the HH3. Do you think if I ran an ethernet cable from the HH3 out to the garage, that it would be possible to set the router up as an Access Point? Just had a measure-up, I would need approx 32mtre ethernet cable, is this just a baby or considered long?

  • Best way to split a site in two?

    I have a site I am revising. The site and its subfolders are located like this
    Macintosh HD
    ......Business folder
    .........Mysitename.site
    .........Mysitename.settings
    .........Mysitename.data
    Is that as it should be? Seems so but prefer to ask and be sure.
    After revising, I plan to split the site into two sites. I suppose the best way to do that is to hit Save As... Is that in fact the best way? What happens then to the .data and .settings folders? Do they copy properly? Do they end up in the right place?
    And last:
    In each version, I plan to delete some pages so there are now two related sites, each with its own similar but not matching collection of pages. Can I simply, in each version, delete one page at a time?
    My best guess is, after deleting pages, I should recheck links with command-5 the Links In /Out palette. Is that the best way?
    Thanks.

    Larry,
    If I understand it in the right way, you can do as you plan. You may, outside GoLive:
    1) Create a new folder (like Business 2 folder) and copy everything from inside Business folder into it;
    2) In each folder (Business/Business 2), delete and/or add things as needed;
    Then you may open GoLive, open each of the site files, press the Refresh button, and recheck links.

  • Best way to see if a URL to filesystem file exists?

    What's the best way to test if a file (specified by a URL) exists? I know if I had a file object, I could just do: new File( path ).exists() but File takes a URI not a URL as a constructor param. If it's a file, I can just do this, right?:
    try
         InputStream in = url.openStream();
         in.close();
    catch (IOException e)
         //Assume doesn't exist?
    }But if it's a jar file, that won't work since you can only open a stream to an entry. So for jar files, I do this, right?
    try
         URLConnection conn = url.openConnection();
         if ( conn instanceof JarURLConnection ) ( ( JarURLConnection ) conn ).getJarFile();
    catch (IOException e)
         //Assume doesn't exist?
    }Is there a better way?

    Hi,
    Try the below method which convert the given URL to and check if the file exists
    public boolean isFileExistGivenURL (URL url) {
              if (url == null || !url.getProtocol().equals("file")) {
                return false;
            } else {
                String filename = url.getFile().replace('/', File.separatorChar);
                int pos =0;
                while ((pos = filename.indexOf('%', pos)) >= 0) {
                    if (pos + 2 < filename.length()) {
                        String hexStr = filename.substring(pos + 1, pos + 3);
                        char ch = (char) Integer.parseInt(hexStr, 16);
                        filename = filename.substring(0, pos) + ch + filename.substring(pos + 3);
                return new File(filename).exists();
            }Hope this helps

  • Please help with the best way of adding together numbers like this ..

    Hey.
    What's the best way with J2ME to acheive this .. I have an integer, let's the it's value is "123456" and what I wanna do is to add them together this way: 1 + 2 +3 + 4 + 5 + 6. How would I do that? Thanks in advance!

    My solution should keep going until you have all the digits added, regardless of the number of digits. Because it divides the number by 10 each time through the loop, it'll stop when you have divided it enough to reach 0 using integer division. So if your number only has 1 digit, the loop will only run 1 time, and if you have a 20 digit long value (change types to long), it'll run 20 times.
    If you want all of the digits added up, this'll do it. If you want the first n digits, and don't know how many digits(m) there are it's going to need a different approach. If you know how many digits long the number is....
    int number = 12345678;
    int totalLength = 8;
    int usefulDigits = 3;
    int firstDigit = totalLength - usefulDigits;
    for(int i=0; i < totalLength; i++){
        if(i >= firstDigit){
            sum += a % 10;
        a = a / 10;
    }This requires you to figure out how many digits are in the number ahead of time. I'm not sure about the fastest way to do this, but I'd likely do it with a series of if() statements that look for the number of digits in a binary-search style...
    //pseudo code...
    if(num >= 10000){
        //at least 5 digits...
        if(num >= 1000000){
            //at least 7 digits...
            ... fill it in ...
        }else{
            //5 or 6 digits...
            if(num >= 100000){
                //six digits...
                return 6;
            }else{
                //5 digits
                return 5;
    }else{
        .... just like above...

  • Best way to move network profiles to client machines

    Hi,
    I have a client who has a small network of minis and iMacs working off of an old G4 running OS X Leopard Server. They have been using networked profiles, but have recently decided to get away from them and go with a local profile on each computer.
    What is the best way to safely move the networked profile data to each client? What I was thinking of doing was zipping each profile folder on the server, copying it to an external drive, then creating a local profile and copy/paste the data into that folder. However, I'm concerned about messing up data permissions.
    Any hints?
    Thanks!
    Alan

    That's what I thought. But as long as I can re-assign them it'll be okay.
    Thanks for confirming that for me.

  • What is the Best way To Copy and paste data from 1 book to another

     I have 18 sheets in 5 different books that I want to extract data from specific cells.  What is the best way to do this?  Example:  1 sheet is called Numbers E-O1 data in 13:WXYZ. The data updates and moves up 1 row every time I enter
    a new number. So let's say I enter the number 12. Through a lot of calculations the output goes in 13:WXYZ. To what I call a counter which is a 4 digit number.  Anyways, how can I send that 4 digit number to a totally different sheet?  To bullet
    what I'm talking about
    data in cells Row 13:WXYZ in book called Numbers sheet E-O1
    send data to book called "Vortex Numbers" Sheet E-O row 2001:CDEF
    What formula or Macro can I use to make this work?
    thank you!

    Hello Larbec,
    Syntax:
    '[BookName]SheetName'!Range
    Enter in cell  2001:CDEF:
    ='[Numbers]E-O1'!13:WXYZ
    This assumes that the file is open in Excel. Otherwise you need to add the path:
    'ThePath[BookName]SheetName'!Range
    Best regards George

  • What is the best  way to send one email for 2000+ address?

    Hi I want to send oneemail msg (only text) from mor than 2000 address.
    I want that the recp. will not c the other address (i. e. each address should be a BCC)
    what is the best way to do it? sned 2000 emails or to send 20 emails with 1000 recp. ?
    is there any limitation on the number of recp in BCC?
    10x alot Yonatan

    is there any limitation on the number of recp in BCC?
    mail server you are using may be the limiting factor. However, most mail server handle 2000 recp. You will get smtp error 552 if the mail server cant handle 2000 recipients.

  • Adding contacts to group in address book

    Arghhh - I searched for Address Book in this support site and they said no matching entries!!!
    So before I "upgraded" to Lion, I could drag a whole bunch of emails into a group in Address Book.  It now will not let me do that! (I hate Lion!)
    Does anyone have a work-around for this?  I sent an email to 50 people and I want to create a group from these emails without importing them one by one and then manually adding each one to a group..
    There must be a way to do this! (And of course "Help" for address book has nothing about this.)
    Thanks,
    Marty

    What is your existing method for adding these contacts? If you are for example selecting a sender's email address in Mail and using "Add to Address Book" then you can't hook in to that process. If on the other hand you are working directly in Address book, adding a card and then fill it in, you could replace that with a script that would prompt for the necessary details, including group (with default Work Phone). You could even put a pretty front end on it with XCode.
    Alternatively you could periodically run a script to periodically trawl for contacts with no assigned group and move them to a default group for analysis. I posted one here recently.

  • Adding a Family to the Address Book?

    What is the best way to enter information for a family in Address Book? I mean like the Johnson Family - Father John, Mother Susan, Kids Steve and Nancy? Any suggestions as to the best format?
    Kevin

    Another useful technique is to use the "related names" fields - so in Steve's contact card you can put John Johnson in a related name field and set the label to father. It is a bit cumbersome, but some people like it for when they are printing out address labels - it will print a single one for the family, with the first line "John Susan Steve and Nancy Johnson".
    If you have related names set up you can use them to navigate between cards - not particularly useful, of course, if all the Johnsons are together, but if Nancy gets married and changes her name the link will still work.

  • Sync added contacts from iPhone to Address Book

    As I am out and about I add new contacts on my iPhone. But when I sync with my Mac they are ignored. This contrasts with other mobile phone suppliers who do a 'sync merge' as standard updating both the phone and PC with added and amended contacts since the last sync. How can I get iTunes to execute this most basic of functions?

    I posted earlier today, asking how to get my contacts to sync both ways, or IF they can sync both ways, but so far, no one has replied. I updated my contacts on my imac (10.6.7) and when I try and sync my iphone4, it tells me if I go forward with the sync, it will effect at least 25% of my contacts on my computer, so the iphone, with the older contacts, is going to overwrite those in my address book on my mac.
    I have been searching other posts to see if I can find the answer, and found this post here.  So I am wondering if resetting the sync history would help me?  I went to isync and clicked on it but the message is a bit unclear, to me anyway ;-)   It sounds like resetting the isync history will cause me to loose some information?  Can you clarify?  Or help me sort out how to get the updated contacts from my mac's address book into contacts on my iphone4?
