Best way to expand/ get more ports

Love my airport extreme(n) but 4 ports is too tight -
What is the best way to get MORE ports ???
Add on a cheap switch and plug it into one of the four on the exteme. ???
Get another extreme? - that seems too expensive for just adding a couple of ports
Fritz

But if he has two or more gigabit-supported computers that are connected to a gigabit switch via Ethernet, file transfers between those computers will be faster. This may or may not be helpful to him, though.
Also, there's something to be said for paying a little more to buy equipment that won't become obsolete as quickly.

  • Need additional ports - best way to expand?

I have a 10/100 WRT54GP2 supporting 2 attached PCs, a print server, Vonage VOIP, and wireless access. I have a new computer that I need to add to my home network, but I'm out of ports. Also, my new computer supports gigabit ethernet, which I may want to take advantage of in the future. What is the best way for me to add ports, and hopefully be positioned to convert over to gigabit down the road. Also, not sure if this matters, but I am also going to convert one of my existing PCs to Windows Home Server and use it to do automatic backups of the other PCs on the network.

Very simple, go buy a simple 4 port switch.  Plug it into your router and now you have an additional 4 ports off of 1 port on the router.  You can get one for about $20.

  • Is there any way I can get more fonts for the online photoshop?

I know that this might sound a bit silly since I'm getting the services for free, but I was just curious if there was a way I could get more fonts for the online version. Maybe I'd be better off with the full program. Just curious! (:

When you say online version, do you mean you are using the Creative Cloud trial?
Photoshop accesses fonts on your computer, so all you have to do is purchase or download free ones from a fonts website.
Here is a website with reasonably high quality free fonts: http://www.fontsquirrel.com/.
    Good luck!

The hard drive is what contains all your data, the RAM is random access memory, the more you have, the happier your machine will be.

  • Best way to expand MacBook Air SSD

My daughter is a Medical Student with a 2013 MacBook Air 256 SSD.  I should have anticipated her video, (lecture), storage requirement.  Anyhow what is the best solution to expand her storage capabilities beyoun 256 gb and maintain some sense of portibility?  A high capacoty USB drive?

You would have to buy a third-party piece of hardware to do that. There is no other way to connect two monitors to a computer that has only one video out port.

  • Best way of spanning traffic from ports to remote DC's N7Ks

    Hello Team,
I have a site where many voice gateways are going to be located with ISDN30's in place. We need to span the traffic from these ports/vlan to remote DC's (to DC1 and DC2) to a particular VLAN or port (worst case scenario). The remote location consists of 4506E in VSS [the VG's will connect in to here] with 2 ASR 1002x's for WAN with 1 gb point to point links to DC1 and DC2.
In DC1 and DC2 are N7K's - from where the point to point come in to WAN VDC, the traffic needs to go to the LAN VDC to a VM. The LAN and WAN vdc's have L3 connectivity (OSPF)
What are the best ways of doing this...? I was starting to think OTV, however this may not work when spanning to a vlan - I haven't tried - will this work. Of course the solution will have to have resilience so spanning traffic to both DC1 and 2. I have done pseudo-wire before in another setup to accomplish this however this is different in that we may need to span to a vlan.
    Thank you
    Bilal

Hello, I had already looked in to this, unfortunately won't work, since the requirement is to span to a vlan destination. We end up using dedicated expensive ports for erspan and other solutions so we've decided to keep the recording servers locally at site and every so often FTP to the DC.
    Thanks for replying though

  • What is the best way to expand a growing library on itunes

Besides using an external hard drive

    Superultra Dave wrote:
If you were to expand the library could an external hard drive and Time capsule or Airport extreme?
    Could they do what?
The only way to have more space for an iTunes library is to either install a larger hard drive in your Mac or use an external hard drive of some sort (whether a directly-connected drive or a network drive such as an NAS or Time Capsule). There aren't any other options (none that would be practical, anyway; companies that provide network storage for a subscription would be far too expensive for a large library).
Which solution would be best for you will depend on your setup and how you need/want to be able to access your library. You don't provide enough details for us to make a good recommendation.

  • I have a newer Sony FS100,  What is the best way I can get my footage into a workable format?

It does not appear as an available camera during import mode, and when I try to import my video files any other way they are dimmed out and i can't even click on them. I should hope there will be support in the near future for this camera but until then, is there another application that anyone can suggest that will let me at least work with the video I have?

    Nick -
This was my first "big" problem for the last 3 days with iMac and FCProX and my new Sony FS100. To make a long story short: Buy the latest versions of ClpWare amd install it (se end of this note). I got it yesterday after a lot of not-useful inreaction  - an then some *very useful interaction* - on this forum.... (and solution came after I began writing to the makers, Divergent.com) -  they knew IMMEDIATELY what was to be the solution for me - and told me/lined me to a (new?) version available that, when I got it, fixed all my SONY FS100U import / AVCHD/MTS problems. I was really overjoyed.
To get there took almost all day. But I'm a giant step closer, now. Honestly. That is STEP ONE: get the proper version to import your files...it gets MUCH easier to work with the product once you have the native import issue resolved. Lots...
So, I imported everything from the hi-speed SanDisk 32Gb card, finally, and in beautiful quality, just using the defaut "REWRAP" settings. (I have yet to try to import via the Pro Res or ProRes Proxy settings - but mabe today I will try...time and ENERGY permitting). I feel I need a day off from all of this, completely, after 3 days of angst and disappointment...but ultimately all which lead to a GREAT outcome. So for me it's [next] onto STEP 2: experimenting more with the product features, mastering more of them; outputting the size clips w/effects. etc and quality I want.
This IS a different animal. But I still suppport it and its advent.
One thing at a time...it is a huge learning curve since I am actually  working with 3 new technologies all at once (actually more  - that have nothing to do with FCProX video, directly...just indirectly....which I won't get into) - but again, below is the link to a FAST middleware transcoder (ClipWrap) that will get your AVCHD files into your Mac. Hopefully it's a fast Mac.
I benchmarkd yesterday on both my Intel core5 iMac (very fast) vs. a slower MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo (?) - both have 8 Gb DRMM;  anyway - while the import worked just as well on either machine -  seemilngly just about as quickly on the MBPro, too...the playback from that laptop wasn't as [quite] perfect after rendering a clip, out with defaut settings (to keep things simple, for now)....but that ALSO may be because I decided to play devil's advocte while I was at it and imported/exported both the same AVCHD files to an Firewire 800 external HD on the MBPro, and secondly, re-imported. re-rendered and re-expoerted same clip to the MBPro *internal drive*...just to see what might happen in quality or playback speeds of a re-render. While both worked, the playback (via the "422 and H.264 codec output" experiments I did with the same, short 1.06 min. clip - but with  NO EFFECTS/transitions with that one, (unlike the iMac verison wich I loaded down, every few seconds, with numerous transitions) - the 1.06 min. test clips WERE, not surprisingly, different in playback. The AVCHD imported to and exported from the MBPro internal HD was a bit more "acceptable" in quality...but the import/export from my much faster iMac (internal HD)  tops everything. Hands down. If I do get a Thunderbolt machine...which I MIGHT, God willing and back account still permitting...I hope that new TB 15" fully-qoutfittd MacBook Pro I now have my eye on will result in still-better throughput - and NOT introduce a whole new layer of problems. God - I hope not...then there is LION coming...sheesh! What [new] problems might THAT indroduce???
One needs to experiment a lot here, but once you are able to get the files in from the cam (finally, and easily) - things start to get way better. After that...it's the learning curve of what input / output settings/decsions suit your needs. That is the NEXT BIG curve ahead...for me at least.
I really do like FDProX a lot..a REAL lot...but obviously, like allof us, I am still learing it.
There is a lot to learn, obviously..just read along in this forum! FCProX has its own big "internal" curve to master, when it comes to details.
I found and have been able to use the Precision Editor.. got a first-ever finally and easily) import of several AVCHD native clips "edited"...but got jumbled up - somewhere - (?) in the Precision Editor  - and over-duped/dubbed some of the part of the clips I cut up to see what would happen. So the end results with that clp were messed up to say the least...but it did output beautifully...I am still confused about the auto/background renderering and o-going "transcoding and analysis" issue....I sotp it and render out to QT format anyway..it seems to work...tho I id end up with the last moments of the PRditor version misssing the last few seconds...which I did OT deliberatelu splice out and delete!!
Just plain old trial and error...now. Obviously I did something wrong (easy to do in a program as new as FCProX)....but again : I have YET to print out the manual or even read a page of it. So for that - considering how far I've gotten (a "surface scratch" only, still, to be honest) - it's a testament to what the program DOES do by iteself for you that helps you SOME with that learning curve...it's refining the editing/final cut output process for me, now - getting past the kinks or not-obvious pitfalls...I get there...we all will and we'll help one another along....and getting an output that looks and works the way I/we planned for in the final analysis.
We're all stil learning here. Esp. me. I am out of energy. I've been asleep for the last 6 hours...and am headed back to bed. In 10 minutes!
Here is the link to purchase the apparently tweaked and PROPER ClipWare version ($50  - worth it!) - and comment from Divergent; as noted: so, in review - I purchased it yesterday, that solved my AVCHD 1080p60 FS100 SONY cam/raw clip import issues and SAVED THE DAY - for now:
(https://store.divergentmedia.com)  - "you'll receive a serial number which will unlock it after you buy it. It'll automatically update to the final release of 2.4.2 when we release that (after Lion ships)", from what I was told by Divergent.
    Best of luck,
    Mike

  • Best way to expand a report and export it to PDF?

Hi, we have created an Excel worksheet with several Power View reports. Some of the reports contain detailed information, such as a table of risks for a project. The stakeholders are quite happy with the interactive feature of Power View, as they can use
a filter to select a project and view its risks. Also it is very easy to add additional columns in the future (compared to traditional reporting solutions like SSRS that require developers help just to add some columns). However, sometimes the
stakeholders also need a static pdf output, as some stakeholders do not have Excel 2013, and they may work offline (do not have access to the SharePoint version of Power View either).
In this static version, the projects must be expanded, so that the pdf contains information of all projects, not just the currently selected one by the filter. Ideeally, if there're 10 projects, each contains 3 sheets, then each sheet will be repeated
for every project in the pdf, so there will be 30 pages in the output. But Excel's built-in print to pdf feature doesn't seem to support this scenario. In addition, some projects have a lot of risks, and in Power View, a scroll bar is displayed.
When exporting to pdf, the scroll bar is not expanded. Thus the pdf only displays part of the risks which are currently visible on the screen.
Is there a way to overcome those limitations, while keep most benifits of self servicing report? We don't mind to look into third party solutions, if the price is reasonable and the solution works nicely with Power BI. Thanks for any thought.
    Shining Oh Blue Star

This is a bad thing to do with JPEGs. You're better off just reducing the 'q' if you want a smaller/faster/lower resolution image. That way you're throwing away resolution intelligently. Using scaling you're throwing resolution away unintelligently. I was on a project where 40,000 images were scaled when they should have been low-q'd. Don't do it.

  • Can the SPA 8000 be Daisy Chained to get more ports

We have a situation where end user has 13 lines.
Is it possible to daisy chain 2 SPA 8000 G1 to get the necessary number of ports?
    Thank You

It is possible to connect multiple SPA8000 to the same network. All you have to do is to connect your SPA8000 to one of the numbered ports of the switch. Each SPA8000 should have a unique IP address. Cheers!

  • Best way to not allow more than one user on page.

Do not want another user editing a record on a page when another user is on that page.  Any ideas on the approach I should use?

Please provide more information. What you describe is the normal, default situation anyway.
A thousand of us have opened a page. Our browsers each caches a copy of the page. So, in normal circumstances, one is not really on the page. If the 1001st client were to open the page and edit the record, we wouldn't be aware of the change till we refresh or revisit the page.

  • Best way to do a clean install ?

After having some major issues with OSX 10.8.5 I decided to reinstall OS X. But I’m not sure what I did wrong as I can’t seem to boot into the apple hardware test that should have been on my mid 2011 iMac, the recovery partition seems to be gone also that was listed on the boot screen when you hold down the option key on boot up. And when I try to use the boot camp installer in the utility file to make a boot camp partition like it did before I am not asked how much space I want to allocate, rather it tells me it can’t find a USB drive to install windows to.
I am not sure what the best way is to get the system back to the way it was out of the box? I can seem to find my discs that came with the iMac, but in thinking back I think that it never came with them as I seem to recall something about an internet recovery?
Any help you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Use Internet recovery - reboot holding Command Option and R. I'm thinking you you'll be best off to start Disk Utilities and repartion the drive - Select 1 partition. Then download OS X and let the system install itself. Of course before doing this make sure you have a backup so you don't lose all your data.

  • What's the best way to handle new versions of software?

So we have an Application setup for Adobe Reader (just using Reader as a general example) which is part of our Task Sequence.  When Adobe releases a new version of Reader, what's the best way to handle getting the new version into our SCCM setup.
I know I can create a new application and do it all over and select the new file, but can I simply replace the files that the application is pointing to and then somehow tell it to update the DPs with the new files?  I'd rather not have to create new
applications every time if I don't have to.
    Thanks.

I think continue the way you are doing right now by creating a new application each time there is a version change. Its a clean way to do and this helps with Application life cycle mgmt aswell where you keep track of versions across the environments and
eventually retire an application. Specially where no changes are made without a change control. This is completely process specific and may not be applicable.
i do agree with above posted comments about using supercedence option.
However most of the apps comes with upgrade capabilities from previous versions. So you can upgrade existing version with new one if you do not wish to use supercedence.
    Thanks

  • Replacing hard drive, best way to transfer?

I bought a new Seagate 640gb, 5400rpm drive today and I was wondering what the best way is to get my data on there. I was going to backup my current drive, take it out, put in the Seagate and use Migration Assistant. Is this a common and safer way, or is there a preferred method? Thanks everyone.

The easiest way would be to put the Seagate in an enclosure, prepare and format it, and then use Super Duper or Carbon Copy Cloner to make a bootable clone:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1885474&tstart=60
    http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html
    http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html
Once you have made the bootable clone on the Seagate, you can then boot from it and make sure all is well. Then you can install the Seagate and all your data will be there. It will be an identical copy of your old drive.
If all is not well, that could indicate a problem with the new drive, and you will find that out before you install it.
    Good luck!
