Best way to import from camcorder.

Camera:
Sony Handycam v. HDR-XR100
Outputs:
(don't know the exact terms) USB, mini hdmi, component
Question:
I am trying to import videos shot from this camera to the mac. I think firewire works best when it comes to importing, but this camera does not have the port. The USB cable works, but mostly only for programs to import pictures such as iPhoto. Ideally it would be nice to import directly into FCP, but if it is too inconvenient than I understand. What is the best way to import the video? Are there adapters to convert one of the cables into firewire? Just looking for the best option/solution. Thanks again for the help.

I have a tutorial on the full process for tapeless import into FCP. Rule #1: BACKUP YOUR CAMERA ORIGINAL

  • Best way to import from external drive that I'm loading LPs on

I'm transferring many LP's to an external hard drive as MP3 in a LP folder.
#1 - What's the best way to import into iTunes and still keep my original file where it is as well as have a copy in iTunes? Would I just import each song individually or could I add folder? I do have the setting checked for copying song to itunes. Just not sure if I should import or add?
#2 - Is there a way to import into iTunes as AAC or do I have to import original MP3 and then convert to AAC? When I do this and try to delete the MPEG-3 songs from iTunes.. I'm somehow also deleting my original MP3 file that's in the LP folder. I believe this pertains to what I'm doing in question #1

    None of the above.
There's no importing involved. All you do is open the v6 Library with 09. It will then update the Library, preserving all your work. As always, back up first.
To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network, Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.

  • Best way to import from iPhoto 6 with albums ?

    Hello All !
I have a large collection of photos (well, only about 5500 pics) in my old iPhoto 6 library sitting on my (also) old Mac Book Pro from 3 or 4 years ago, and today I would like to import all that to my (new) iPhoto 09 on my iMac.
What's the best way to do that and keeping the albums and folders I have in my old library ?
. will the standard import function just do the trick and automagically recognize the old iPhoto on the network (just like iTunes does with shared music) ?
. should I use the import function, navigate through the shared folders and import from the "iPhoto Library" folder on the laptop ? Will this sort through the originals and modified pics and get the albums too ?
. or should I export everything from the old iPhoto to reimport them in the new one (using the original file option) ? Will that keep the albums ?
    Thanks for your help,
    Paul-Henri

  • Best Way to import from iPhoto to Aperture?

I am working with an iPhoto library of 40,000 images, which is about several hundred GB in size. The direct import of the iPhoto library doesn't seem to work - i.e. - Aperture shows in the activity window that it is processing 40,000 images, but it hangs after this initial step, and never succeeds in building the new library. Is there a workaround for this?
If not, what is the next best options? I see that I can open the iPhoto browser in Aperture, and drag photos across into projects. Also, via import, I can select iPhoto albums from the iPhoto Library folder, and import them that way.
What is the best way to go?
The computer has plenty of power - dual 2.8 Mac Pro, 6GB of RAM, etc., so I don't think that is the problem.
    Thanks.

Unfortunately, it did seem to "hang" it ran for much of an afternoon, then overnight, and still appeared to be "stuck" - never got an error, and ultimately had to force quit, and try something else.
Might simply try dragging photos from the built-in Aperture iPhoto Browser into new Projects in Aperture. This would let us do it in batches, rather than 40,000 images all at once.
Thanks for any ideas or suggestions.

  • Best way to import from iTunes & audio lock to video?

I just started with PrE 10 and am coming from years with iMovie HD6 (never liked the later versions). Can audio tracks be dragged from iTunes (by having 2 minimal sized windows of each application open) into the Project area? Or do you need to try and find each song by going through the whole Get Media  File/Folder link process? I've tried dragging a few songs from iTunes, and it didn't seem to work (it was very easy in iMovie). I was able to add photos to the Project area from iPhoto by dragging them over from the iPhoto window.
Also, is there a way to lock (or link) the beginning of an added audio/soundtrack clip to a video clip, so that it does not inadvertently get moved, or so that if you move the video clip, or delete an earlier video clip, the locked audio goes with that video clip?
[Moved to the Premiere Elements main forum]

With Audio, you need to Import the file (Get Media), as Premiere needs to Conform the Audio, creating both a CFA (Conformed Audio) file, and a PEK (Waveform Display) file, and link to those.
Now, with iTunes, there can be some problems, though things have gotten a bit better recently. If you DO have an issue, you can create a Playlist in iTunes, and copy over all the files that you need for your Project, then burn a CD of that Playlist. The Audio-CD will be in the CDA container in as a WAV file, which should Import just fine, into PrE.
Actually, it might be easier, even if the iTunes music does Import, to create a Playlist in iTunes, where you can drag and drop right from the iTunes GUI, and then Import from that Playlist.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • What's the best way to import from other comp?

I need to import all my photos from the hard drive from my old powerbook (iphoto 2) ....i tried add to library and most of them didn't impor (it said unreadable)....i tried doing a target drive transfer and more made it but not all of them and it didn't import any of my old albums....
    thanks!

    Hi John,
Opening up and upgrading a iPhoto 2 library to iPhoto 5 can be iffy.
I suggest to export all your albums from your powerbook iPhoto 2 library to newly created folders on the desktop.
Then if the computers are networked, copy those folders to the ibook, then import those folders/albums into iPhoto 5 on the iBook.
If they are not networked, burn those folders to disc and copy them to the ibook, then import into iPhoto on the iBook.
Done this way, you have your images in folders that can be burned for backup.
You start with a new library that will have less of a chance of getting corrupt.

  • What's the best way to import from ProTools to Logic 7.2.3?

I need to transfer audio files (and some MIDI if possible) from someone running ProTools on a Mac. Looking for advice.
    Thanks in advance

Consolidate the audio tracks (in protools) from bar 1 to the end. Then export the resulting files. Save the PT session as a midi file. Import the MIDI file into logic. Then drag the consolidated audio files into Logic.

  • What is the best way to import pictures from iPhoto without compression?

I'm trying to create a slide show using Final Cut Pro. No, I'm not interested in using iDVD slide show function because it doesn't allow me to do a whole lot. I would like to add titles and music for certain segments with video inserted here and there.
Anyway, when I used the slide show function in iPhoto, exported it out as a quick movie file, and then imported it into Final Cut Pro, I noticed a significant downgrade in quality of images. It obviously looks different from when I play the slide show in iPhoto. What would be the best way to import pictures into Final Cut Pro without any compression?
    Thanks in advance.

I only see Share > Export.
Some versions of iPhoto work that way -it's just Apple moving things around.
what's the difference between exporting it from iPhoto then import it into FCP vs. just importing directly from FCP?
Your first post mentioned exporting a slide show from iPhoto -I assumed that is where your images are stored.
I do not want to import pictures one by one...
You don't have to. iPhoto will let you select as many as you want, or if the images are elsewhere, you can also select multiple files from FCP's Import dialog.
    ...and stick them together manually.
Editing is an art and involves some effort on your part. It is not an automated process. This method opens up far more possibilities, access to filters and color correction and the opportunity to use Motion for even more sophisticated animation.
But, it only allows me to export it as 720 x 480. The original size of my photos is 3872 x 2592. Is there any way I can create a quicktime file in the original size?
You should be aware that 3872 x 2592 is not a standard pixel aspect ratio that is used in video. The images will be resized to the Sequence settings that you set up in Final Cut Pro.
I have never used iPhoto to make a slideshow before, but I just gave it a try and was able to export one with the images in their native size, simply by typing the pixel dimensions into the boxes in the dialog window:
I don't have PhotoMagico myself, but it comes highly recommended by several of the forum regulars.
Perhaps one of them will see this discussion and help with your last question.

  • The best way to import photos from Picasa to iPhoto

    Hi,
Many of my friends share their pictures online using picasa. Sometimes, I'd like to copy these pictures to keep a backup offline. As a software, I use iPhoto; not picasa. What is the best way to import pictures from picasa to iPhoto?
I first tried to subscribe to the RSS feed using iPhoto and then copy the pictures from there to my library, but then the dates of the pictures are set wrong: instead of indicating when the picture was shot, it indicates some other date (I guess it indicates the date when the picture was uploaded to picasa).
Then I decided to install the software picasa.app. From the webalbum of my friends, I could download the pictures directly to picasa.app. Then I exported them to the desktop, and from there imported them to iPhoto. The dates where set correctly, but I lost all the titles and comments of the pictures.
Do you have any method to download the pictures while keeping both the dates and the titles correctly?
    Thanx!

There is a direct option in Organizer which lets you import from iPhoto. This is under Import dropdown menu in left panel.
If you are importing from iPhoto'09, your Tags, Albums Events, captions, star rating would also get imported apart from your media. This works differently for iPhoto'011 where you can get only the media to the Organizer,
Just a couple of things to know:
    1. If in iPhoto preferences, you have chosen to create copies of your photos in iPhoto library and your library hence refers to the media store inside the library package, then on importing from iPhoto, Organizer would create copies of all those media under your pictures folder. That means, it would not corrupt your iPhoto package or modify it in any way.
    2. However, if in iPhoto, you are organizing by using references to original location on your Hard drive i.e. you are not creating copies of media in iPhoto library then on importing from iPhoto to Organizer, the Organizer would also use the same references and would not create copies of the media.
    Hope that helps!

  • What is the best way to import word documents from a PC to the Ipad2

What is the best way to import word documents from a PC to the Ipad 2?

You first need an app on the iPad that supports word documents - the iPad doesn't have a file structure like a 'normal' computer, and every file/document needs to be associated with an app. If you don't have such an app then options include Apple's Pages app and third-party apps such as Documents To Go and QuickOffice HD. How you then get the documents on the iPad will depend upon the app that you have/get as different apps may use different methods e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc.

  • Hi, Please help. I accidentally deleted my entire Iphoto Library. I used Stellar Phoenix 4.1 and I do believe that I recovered all. I recovered to "My Passport" for Mac External HD. Files are all mixed up, best way to import back?

Hi, a couple days ago, I was orgainizing my Iphoto libray. Then, I thought that I was emptying my trash on Iphoto. (the ones I deleted when orgainizing) after hitting are you sure button, I realized that it was 209 files with 18,000+ photos. So I frantically stopped iphoto from "saving critical information" thinking If I left it open I could copy all my files over to (I beleive somewhere in finder under pictures?) I thought, but it most have been under the applications folder. Well this is where I really messed up. So after saving every file to that section, and everything was normal again on iphoto, I decided to make space and delete them from where I put them. So instead of selecting each file indivually, I used the select ALL button. Only to find that it deleted EVERYTHING. Iphoto (the file) was apparently at the bottom of the page along with Nikon Transfer, Lightroom 2 and god knows what else. That is when I found a data recovery software program (Stellar Phoenix 4.1mac) 17 hours later it found 159GB. I read enough to know that I HAD to go and buy an external HD. (even though I already own Time Capsule, but I never hooked it up ) was confused about if I could actually use that for this matter so, I just went and bought My Passport an external HD for Mac. Plugged it in, and recovered what looks like all my files (hopefully) did also read enough that I knew NOT to use my computer after this occured.
Now that you all know how I got into this mess, I would like to know the best way to import the files back? Ok I know this sounds easy, but all the files are scattered everywhere on the HD. Is there a way to put them back on my Mac Book Pro that would possibly put them in some kind of order? Date? Image file number? Anything? 18,000 photos to reorgainze is going to be brutal. I can reinstall Lightroom 2, if i can locate where I put the disk. And I also have CS5. Also wondering if the quality of the photo was affected?  I did get them back, so I am not complaining but any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
Will be turning on Time Machine and hooking up Time Capsule as well. Should I also use my new HD along with capsule? Any advice on that matter would also be greatly appreciated as well!!!!!
    Thanks, Michelle
