Best way to replace move in iDVD project?

Hello,
I have an iDVD project started and realized I wanted to change a couple details in the iMovie I imported to the project. I can go back and correct the iMovie, but what's the best way to replace the current movie in the iDVD project with the revised iMovie? I'd rather not have to start a new iDVD project and add the pictures to the drop zones etc. Thank you, Rick H.

I forgot that if I hit 'return' the forum cuts what I write. Once I've got a movie in an iDVD project, what's the best way to replace that movie with a revised version (if I realize I need to make a couple changes in iMovie? Do you just go to the map and manually delete everything except the main title? Thanks, Rick.

  • Best quality for SD movie into iDVD

I just finished creating a movie in iMovie '09. It was originally recorded with a Sony 8mm camera and passed through a Sony DV camera into my MacBook.
I've added the titles, transitions, chapter marks, etc. The movie is about 50 minutes long.
What is the best way to get it into iDVD and retain the best quality possible?
Should I "share to iDVD" or export as a QuickTime movie and then drag that into iDVD? Which settings would be the best for that choice?

You can actually convert them AFTER you've moved them in. When you captured them from the camera, they were saved into DV format. You can use mpegstreamclip (free download) to convert the DV clips into AIC or M-JPEG. If you do it correctly, the next time you start iMovie it will import the AIC-based clips in as well. Then, when iMovie reads them into your project and eventually renders the final movie, it will handle rendering better with AIC or M-JPEG clips as the source material.
I understand needing to work with what you have; it is a pain to go and replace each clip, clip by clip, with new clips. However, I have very little experience with DV. I've been using mpeg clips from a HDD camcorder for over a year and have only just started using DV as I am now also shooting with a higher-end DV camera for church projects.
I wish I could give you advice on how to export your project so iDVD can make the best DVD from it, but all of my work to date has been exported into movie files and played onto a HD TV through a laptop using QT or presentation software.

  • Best way to send Imovie to idvd?

OK just finished my Imovie, added chapter markers, but I am getting different info on ways to send movie to IDVD in 2 different books. Do I open idvd and import my imovie file (which is saved on my external hard drive) into idvd? also if i import this saved file does it import a copy of the movie from the external or is it the original and only file? I don't want to lose this only copy on my external Hdrive. any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

    Here's a few ways I use:
You can also drag & drop the QT movie directly into iDVD if you prefer. Hope this is helpful and good luck.

  • What is the best way to replace the Inline Views for better performance ?

    Hi,
    I am using Oracle 9i ,
What is the best way to replace the Inline Views for better performance. I see there are lot of performance lacking with Inline views in my queries.
    Please suggest.

WITH plus /*+ MATERIALIZE */ hint can do good to you.
    see below the test case.
SQL> create table hx_my_tbl as select level id, 'karthick' name from dual connect by level <= 5
    2 /
    Table created.
SQL> insert into hx_my_tbl select level id, 'vimal' name from dual connect by level <= 5
    2 /
    5 rows created.
    SQL> create index hx_my_tbl_idx on hx_my_tbl(id)
    2 /
    Index created.
    SQL> commit;
    Commit complete.
    SQL> exec dbms_stats.gather_table_stats(user,'hx_my_tbl',cascade=>true)
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
Now this a normal inline view
    SQL> select a.id, b.id, a.name, b.name
    2 from (select id, name from hx_my_tbl where id = 1) a,
    3 (select id, name from hx_my_tbl where id = 1) b
    4 where a.id = b.id
    5 and a.name <> b.name
    6 /
    Execution Plan
    0 SELECT STATEMENT Optimizer=ALL_ROWS (Cost=7 Card=2 Bytes=48)
    1 0 HASH JOIN (Cost=7 Card=2 Bytes=48)
    2 1 TABLE ACCESS (BY INDEX ROWID) OF 'HX_MY_TBL' (TABLE) (Cost=3 Card=2 Bytes=24)
    3 2 INDEX (RANGE SCAN) OF 'HX_MY_TBL_IDX' (INDEX) (Cost=1 Card=2)
    4 1 TABLE ACCESS (BY INDEX ROWID) OF 'HX_MY_TBL' (TABLE) (Cost=3 Card=2 Bytes=24)
    5 4 INDEX (RANGE SCAN) OF 'HX_MY_TBL_IDX' (INDEX) (Cost=1 Card=2)
Now i use the with with the materialize hint
    SQL> with my_view as (select /*+ MATERIALIZE */ id, name from hx_my_tbl where id = 1)
    2 select a.id, b.id, a.name, b.name
    3 from my_view a,
    4 my_view b
    5 where a.id = b.id
    6 and a.name <> b.name
    7 /
    Execution Plan
    0 SELECT STATEMENT Optimizer=ALL_ROWS (Cost=8 Card=1 Bytes=46)
    1 0 TEMP TABLE TRANSFORMATION
    2 1 LOAD AS SELECT
    3 2 TABLE ACCESS (BY INDEX ROWID) OF 'HX_MY_TBL' (TABLE) (Cost=3 Card=2 Bytes=24)
    4 3 INDEX (RANGE SCAN) OF 'HX_MY_TBL_IDX' (INDEX) (Cost=1 Card=2)
    5 1 HASH JOIN (Cost=5 Card=1 Bytes=46)
    6 5 VIEW (Cost=2 Card=2 Bytes=46)
    7 6 TABLE ACCESS (FULL) OF 'SYS_TEMP_0FD9D6967_3C610F9' (TABLE (TEMP)) (Cost=2 Card=2 Bytes=24)
    8 5 VIEW (Cost=2 Card=2 Bytes=46)
    9 8 TABLE ACCESS (FULL) OF 'SYS_TEMP_0FD9D6967_3C610F9' (TABLE (TEMP)) (Cost=2 Card=2 Bytes=24)
here you can see the table is accessed only once then only the result set generated by the WITH is accessed.
    Thanks,
    Karthick.

  • The best way to replace the internal hard drive

    Hi,
I have a MacBook with a 160gb hard drive which has been partitioned into two partitions one for OSX (130gb) and the other for Windows 7(30gb) and as you can imagine 30gigs for windows is almost nothing, the OS itself is taking a big percentage of its capacity, so I would like to expand both partitions by having a bigger hard drive installed but I was wondering what would bethe best way to do this so I don’t have to reinstall OSX and Windows 7, I have heard about Super Duper for OSX I don’t know if a similar software exists for Windows, well I don't even know if this is the way to go. So my question would is...
What would be the best way to replace an internal hard drive and have everything moved including the Operating Systems (OSX Lion and Windows7)?
Can someone be so kind and tell me the procedure I should follow to accomplish this task? I’m not expecting a step by step tutorial but if you could list the tools needed and a brief procedure it would be greatly appreciated.
Oh, I’m using Boot Camp for the Windows 7 installation.
    Thanks a lot.

    For a hard drive try Newegg.com http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=380&name=Laptop-Hard-Dr ives&Order=PRICE
    Or OWC  http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/2.5-Notebook/
Here's instructions on replacingthe hard drive http://creativemac.digitalmedianet.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=45088
To transfer your current hard drive I like the free application Carbon Copy Cloner. It makes a bootable copy of everything on your hard drive http://www.bombich.com/index.html You'll need a cheap SATA external hard drive case. Put the new drive in the case then partition and format the new drive and clone your old drive to the new one. Check that it's set up right by booting up from the external drive. Then replace your old hard drive with the new one.
Here's a cheap SATA external hard drive case on eBay http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-2-5-SATA-HDD-HARD-DRIVE-EXTERNAL-ENCLOSURE-CASE-BOX-/120 636286623?pt=PCC_Drives_Storage_Internal&hash=item1c167ba69f
For copying the Windows partition I like WinClone http://download.cnet.com/Winclone/3000-2242_4-172338.html
After you've installed your Mac OS with Carbon Copy Cloner (or SuperDuper) on the new drive create a new Windows partition with Boot Camp and copy your WinClone copy to it with Winclone.

  • Best way to Replace OLD Time Capsule with a new one

What is the best way to replace an old Time capsule with a new Time Capsule in an existing wireless network?

    IMHO..
    Start over..
Put the new TC in place and configure .. completely differently to the old one. That means you have to go around and reset everything to connect if you use wireless.. and you should forget all the old configuration beforehand.
You can of course try and slip it in using identical names and identical settings.. but the computers are not fooled.. the BSSID is different. And other issues tend to arise.
Use naming that is short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
    See Pondini post C9 here.
    http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
It may take more time to start with.. depending on how many devices you have.. but in the end, you can get much less problems out the other side.. which are extraordinarily hard to diagnose and fix..
But that is IMHO.. others are welcome to dispute that and may find a full swap using old settings copied to a file and copied back to the new TC work fine.
There are any number of posts around about doing just that.
I will post one if I see it..
I do confess to being a bit of a purist when it comes to this stuff.. but then I used to do computer support and trying to fix the messes people got themselves into .. inevitably they tried to cut corners.. instead of doing the setup from scratch.

  • Hi, what's the best way to replace IMAC 27'' glass when broken (latest Imac generation from end 2012) ?  Thanks,

Hi, what's the best way to replace IMAC 27'' glass when broken (latest Imac generation from end 2012) ?  Thanks,

Not sure about the 2012 models but the 2010 ones can be removed in seconds, using a suction cup on the top corner. I use my tomtom to lift it away. It is attached by magnets.
    Hope this helps.

  • Best way to preserve movies

My iMovie files are taking up a lot of space on my computer. But I want to continue to make copies of them in the future. Can I save them in some kind of iDVD format to preserve quality, but consolidate space? If I export them to .DV format will they lose any quality? (I know .DV still takes up a lot of room)...
    Thanks!

    Hi s
Can I save them in some kind of iDVD format to preserve quality, but consolidate space? <</div>
No. Not if You want to cont. editing and keep full quality.
Best way (my opinion and strategy)
    1. I keep ALL my original miniDV tapes .
    2. When edited a movie I Export back to Camera and new tapes (some project
    needs more than one tape)
    3. If very important and may be of economical value. I buy an extra hard disk
FireWire + Mac OS Extended formatted. (NOT DOS/UNIX/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange)
Copy the full project to this and disconnect it for storing on bookshelf till
it will be of further interest.
    4. One might copy to a set of DVD-disks but they easily exceeds 10 or even
more and will be a fragil way of storing a multi-part files on.
    5. More modern way of storing on server or .Mac accounts is out of rang
    for me.

  • Replace movie in iDVD '08

I created a movie with chapter markers in FCP and exported to QT and built a DVD project with iDVD '08.
Now, several months later, I've made a few minor edits to the original project in FCP . . .a couple clips replaced, moved an audio file a few frames. Timing and chapter markers were all left untouched.
I'd like to replace the old FCP movie in my DVD project with the newly edited FCP movie. If I export the edited movie, give it the same file name and tell FCP to replace the original movie with the new movie, will iDVD be okay with that, or am I going to run into problems?
Is there a better way to do this? I have all the media from the original iDVD project, but I'd rather not have to rebuild the whole thing.
    Thanks!

    Hi
SORRY - But several versions of iDVD - HAS AS BUG
And doing what You suggest will result in disaster
This is just the way to provoke it.
    • Make an iDVD project
    • Go back and adjust movie material
    • NOW iDVD will suggest either - Update or Cancel
    • Update - Will destroy the project eg all Chapters will point to Chapter One etc.
There are no fix for this - ONLY medicine is to
    • Start a new iDVD project and re-build it
Sorry - No one has up till now come up with a more elegant solution. YES this is BAD.

  • How do I move an iDVD project to external

I recently upgraded to iDVD '08 and see that now, one of the output selections is iDVD, meaning it goes straight to that. When this is selected, it automatically begins creating the file as opposed to asking where you'd like to store it. It ended up in my documents on my HD. I figured no worry, I'd just move it over to my ext HD since it was over 2GB. But when I did this and tried to open it, it said 2 files were missing. So, couple of questions. First, I remember with the last that you just output a file that you then, yourself, dragged into iDVD. This seemed very easy. But with this way, it seems to automate it. How can I output so that is does it the old way, where it generates a file that I can place in iDVD myself, and that I can store on an external. Second, if that's not possible, what files do I need to locate to move to the ext, where do they hide, and where should I store them?
Why do they make what was perfectly easy, hard?

If I understand you correctly, you are actually asking two different questions.
    1. Do you mean that with iMovie 08, when you select to 'share' your movie to iDVD that iDVD opens a new project automatically?
You do not have to use the output options in iMovie. Just close your iMovie and open iDVD yourself, choose to create a new project, select a theme, then go to the Media tab, then 'Movies,' locate your iMovie and drag it onto iDVD's main screen. Be careful not to drop it into a menu Drop Zone.
    2. You also would like to have your iDVD project saved to a different location than the default 'Documents' file. When you open iDVD and create a new project, you will see a dropdown box showing Documents as the save location. You can change that right from that drop box.
However, it is recommended that you save your project on your computer's drive, not an external drive. The iDVD application itself must run from your computer. Some users have successfully created and burned projects located on other drives, but many have run into problems.
You can certainly save your completed iDVD projects to an external drive by doing a 'save as disk image' from within the iDVD project. This will look like the burn process, and take just as long for the encoding, but the end result is a disk image file, not a burned DVD disk. The disk image file is a self-contained file that is an exact replica of your iDVD project. It can be moved without losing the ability to burn DVD disks from it in the future.
Remember that an iDVD project itself should be thought of as a container that has references to media files used in it, but it does not actually CONTAIN the media files. When a DVD is burned from an iDVD project, iDVD locates the needed media and copies it for the burn, doing this for each disk burned. Sometimes there are burn 'glitches' where the first DVD disk burns fine, but others may not. Also with an iDVD project, if you rename, move, change or delete any of the files used in the project, iDVD will be unable to locate them and will not be able to open properly. With a saved disk image file, you can safely delete the original iDVD project and the original iMovie, thus saving drive space.
Burning DVD disks form a disk image file using Disk Utility or Toast is a better way to burn DVD disks since the files are all encoded in the disk image file and do not have to be copied in each time.
Please post back if any of this is not clear, or does not answer what you need to know.

  • Best way to get LARGE (multi-DVD) project to show on a TV?

My wife has compiled an iMovie '09 project that has about 42 hours worth of dance videos.  The project consists of many clips of all sorts of esoteric dancing, with a brief fade between each one.  It looks fine on her iMac.  She wants to show these videos on a TV at the "Dance Ladies Retreat" that is coming up in a couple months.  Some ideas we've considered are:
Buying her a new MacBook, and moving the iMovie project over via Firewire, Ethernet cable, or similar.  Then taking the MacBook to the event, and hooking it up to the TV via cable.  This method will be very expensive.
Saving the project on a 256 giga-byte USB drive.  First we'd have to get this mondo iMovie project into a format that would work on a PC laptop, which could then be attached to the TV.  Not sure how to get the iMovie project into a PC-readable format.
Break the mondo iMovie project up into DVD-size chunks.  My wife bought Aimersoft DVD Creator, which we may try to use if we decide to split the iMovie project up into a number of DVDs, but I'm not sure if it can merge movie clips.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Thank you
    ATB

Geoff: Thank you for your reply!  I downloaded VLC Player and was able to read a DVD's worth of my wife's project that she had copied onto Aimersoft's DVD Creator software.  First I saved the Aimersoft DVD Creator file onto my flash drive, and tried to play it on my PC with Media Player.  No joy.  VLC-Player worked like a champ!
OK, now I need to figure out the next piece of the puzzle, which is the best way to get all of her work onto this single, 256 Gb flash drive that we have on order from Amazon.  The ultimate plan is to store the entire iMovie output onto the 256 Gb flash drive, and play it using my ASUS laptop through an HDMI cable.  Looks like we have two main choices for this:
Copy all of her iMovie project onto DVD Creator, and save these onto the big flash drive.  This has the advantage of breaking her project up into manageable chunks, but will VLC Player be able to play those chunks sequentially?
Stay with iMovie, and "share" her project onto the 256 Gb flash drive.  Maybe first we should split the huge project up into several smaller projects, perhaps 4 hours each.  A couple questions here: what do you think would be the nominal size for breaking up the huge project, and what would be the best option for saving the movie using "share."
Thank you very much.  By the way, I found a nice explanation of the features and uses of iMovie 09 (that's the one we have) at this web site: http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/imovie_09_stone.html
    Thank you

  • Best way to work on a large project in CS5

    Hello friends,
I've recently started editing a feature length film in APP CS5.  I've never worked on a project this large before (around 160 GB).  Since I've been just doing small projects, it hasn't been an issue to have my source footage on my C: drive.  I sort of forgot the first rule I ever learned: Don't keep your source footage on the same drive as your program.  So, I set up a master project, and then set up a sequence for every individual scene.  The idea was to edit a scene, the drop it on the master time line.  So I actually imported all of my footage and placed it in each corresponding sequence.  Seemed like a good idea at the time.  But then I started trying to edit a scene and my computer laughed at me.  It just couldn't process anything within a project that big.  So I started from scratch.  Moved all my footage to an external drive, deleted it from my C: drive and started over.  Now, I'm just moving a scene's worth of material in at a time.  So far so good, but will I get bogged down again as the project grows?  Even though I'm pulling everything from an external?  And if I probably will, what should I do?  A friend told me that I should export each sequence at a lossless format, such as the animation codec, then bring them back in and place them on a new master timeline.  My concern is that those files are going to be bigger than the original files, so won't that kill my computer, too.  What's the best way to work on such a large project?  I'm running CS5 on a Toshiba Satellite Pro, Intel Core i3, 2.10 GHz, 8 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD, Windows 7 Pro (64 - bit).  Thanks guys!

It's both AVCHD and DSLR.  Are you saying it's too underpowered to do either of the scenarios I mentioned above, or both?  One way, I will just edit each scene, and export them.  Then, I'll begin with a clean slate, bringing those edited sequences back in and dropping them on a timeline in a new project.  The files will be huge, but I'll only be working with those files.  Nothing else will be in the way.  Then I'll just have to put them in order and do a few transitions (dissolves mostly) between some of the scenes, then export the whole thing.  The other way was to just build the entire movie with every scene as a sequence, editing them, and moving them to the master timeline.  Are you saying I won't be able to do either?  If that's the case, then I suppose I'll have to just edit each scene, export them, and then get someone with a monster machine to put it all together for me.  Hoping it doesn't come to that, but it's not the worst thing I could have to do.

  • Best way to replace source footage

I have about an hour of continuous source footage that I used to create a complex 15min edited version in Final Cut Pro X v10.0.5.  After this project was already completed, I received a better quality version of the original 1 hour of source footage.
What would be the "best Final Cut Pro X way" to replace the original source footage with the higher quality new footage, without having to redo my complex edit?
Unfortunately, my new footage is slightly different frame rate, dimensions, and quality than the original, and also not exactly in sync.
I imagine this is the type of thing that professional editors must contend with all the time, but I'm not finding an efficient way to do this in Final Cut Pro X.
    I've unsuccessfully explored three options:
1.) using the (new since v10.0.3) Relink feature
This is the workflow that seems most similar to those on other editors, however in Final Cut Pro X is seems this only works if the new media file is nearly identical to the old one.  It explicitly states that it doesn't work with footage of different frame rates.  And I also didn't see any way to sync to the old footage, if the new is slightly different length.
2.) importing as a new clip and syncing in the Event Browser
I see that I can sync two different clips in the Event Browser to create a compound clip, but how does this help me easily replace my already edited footage (which was not the new compound clip) with the new?
3.) using the (new since v10.0.3) Multicam editing
I know I can import the new source footage and sync to the old using Multicam editing, but again, how does this help me replace what was already edited from a non-multicam clip?
    Suggestions?
    Many thanks for any tips.

We also had a long debate on the same issue.
We decided to try the Soft-Code values instead of the Hard Code.
    1. Create some custom tables which can hold the constant values. Like: We have some special processing for the normal sales Order ZOR1 and different logic for the Returns order ZRE1.
    So, we have created
One table for the Group - NORM, RETN
One table for the Sales Order & Group relation.
    NORM - ZOR1
    NORM - ZOR2...
    RETN - ZRE1
    RETN - ZRE2
Create a View Cluster to maintain these tables easily.
    2. Create a Classes which can fatch this data
    Like: VALID_SALES_ORDER_TYPE
    Definition-
    Importing :
      Sales Order type
      Group
    Exporting
      Valid
    Implementation-
Get the value from the table Sales Order & group relation
This class contains some other methods also, like VALID_GROUPS_4_SO, VALID_SO_4_GROUP etc.
Advantage: You can easily maitain a new Hardcoded value in the SM30
    Disadvantage: Lots of coding
    Another Approch:
You can create one Global class for Constants. You can maintain all your constants in that global class and use them in your coding. One main advantage would be, you can easily do the where used list on each individual constant.
