BEx and AS ABAP NW 2004s/7.0

HI Experts:
I am hoping to get some clarity on this.  I am working on a project and the BW resourse has requested that he needs BEx to work.
I am a bit unsure as to where the BEx needs to work properly.
Our initial scope was to just to install a Business Intelligence 7.0 Lite.  So, we would only install AS-ABAP.  However, I am not sure if AS-JAVA is required for BEx to work.
Do I need to install EP, EP Core and BI JAVA with AS-JAVA?
I do realize that I sound a bit confused, and I would like to clear this up once and for all.
I have installed a BI7 (ABAP) and (ABAP + JAVA ADD IN) systems in a test and training environment.
I realize that in order to fully utilize BI7, I need to install EP and BI Java as well.  However, it is not in our scope at this time.
Thanks
Imran

Hi,

No, it is not supported. Check SAP note 1245473. Check extract from this note:
EHP1 for SAP NetWeaver and Business Suite Systems
Enhancement package 1 for SAP NetWeaver 7.0 can only be installed for
standalone installations of SAP NetWeaver (for example, BI, EP, etc.).
For existing installations of SAP Business Suite systems (for example,
SAP ERP 6.0) that are based on SAP NetWeaver 7.0, the enhancement package 1
for SAP NetWeaver 7.0 must not be installed separately
> can i use JSPM to do the upgrade from 7.0 SP17 to 7.01 SP05 (we use AIX 64-bit and oracle
> 10.2.0.4) or do i have to use thes EHPI Installer ?
>
Yes. But it is recommended to use EHPI tool to install EHP1.

  • BI Java and BI ABAP -RSPLAN issue

    Hi All
We are working with BI system ,using BI 7.0 Java and BI ABAP as separate systems on same host.
Already run the template intaller for BI Java and ABAP integration.
But facing some issue ,when going ot BI ABAP and RSPLAN and clicking the Start Mideller
it is opening a browser as http://host:8000/sap/public/myssocntl?sap-client-XXX
Since this is not correct and it should open BI Java portal instead of ABAP stack page.
Instead this should open a Url like this http://host:5XX00/webdynpro/dispatcher/sap.com/biplanworkbench1/Modeler?
I check on BI ABAP system under SAP Reference IMG -> SAP Customizing Implementation Guide-> SAP NetWeaver _> Business Intelligence-> BI Integrated Planning -> Settings for Starting the Planning Modeler.
There the default Url is BEx Portal Server and the url is
    http://host:5XX00/webdynpro/dispatcher/sap.com/biplanworkbench1/Modeler
Can anybody let me know why this is going to ABAP server instead it should go to Java.

  • Bex Query in ABAP report

Can i call a BEx query in ABAP report and display in ALV grid. if so please give me the syntax.
    Thanks
    Akila.R

    Look at the FM "RSDRI_INFOPROV_READ".
With this you can read data into a internal table of your program.
With this FM, you can do a selective read and select only the key figures and characteristics that you wish to read in your ABAP.
I am not ure, if you can call a BEx report in your ABAP. But with what I mentioned here, you can acheive what you want.

  • BEx Query via ABAP Programm (without Querydesigner) ???

    hello friends,
is there anybody who knows a solution to gernerate a BEx Query without using the BEx Querydesigner, with ABAP coding, only!? I´m looking for a solution, whre f.e. the customer selected character, keyfigures and selections in an external applikation (maybe ms excel) and from there an ABAP programm takes the information and generate a BEx Query?
I´m not sure if these considerations could be come reality, but maybe there is a solution, or some ideas and input from your side!?
    thx...

    hi anass,
thx for your reply. Yes i know this feature, but this isn´t a solution for my tasks. Becaus I need a "regular" query at the end of the process, which i can implement in an WAD template. and on top I need the queries for BW IP planning applications, so the tool must generate planning queries with input ready cells.
I think these facts and many many side effects like variables, hierachies, structuredefinions and so on, will destroy my "dreams" of such a 'query-generating-tool'. probably a very easy query will be a problem for automatic generation, because there are many sap tables where the queryinformation will be stored, with id references, and so on...

  • BW (BEx) and BOBJ Reporting-Tools

    Hi All,
I'm looking for an article or anything, that describes the difference between SAP BW (BEx) and Business Objects- Reporting tools .
which tools is suitable for what purpose?
    thanks
    brad

This isn't mine - it may even be yours - but just in case anyone looks at this thread, here it is
    BO vs BEx
    Ease of use:
BO - Very user friendly interface, Minimal requirement for MDX code, Some queries take more time in BO analysis, when compared to BEx Analyzer
BEx - Difficult self service reporting and analytics, Being Excel based, it needs extensive VBA or Macro programming for a great UI
    Features:
BO - Export functionality (PDF, MSOffice etc), More chart types, Has more advanced features, Design and Preview Tab in the same page, Provides offline capabilities
BEx - Is mostly for SAP only but With integration can access BEx query from BO, Web App Designer is effort intensive, Build and preview are separate views
    Support from SAP:
BO - Part of SAP integration roadmap, All current and future dev. in the BI front-end is focused on the SAP BO BI solutions, Crystal Reports is now main reporting tool, replacing BEx Report Designer
BEx - BEx is no longer the strategic direction, BEx product line will be phased out completely by 2016
    Compatibility with other data source:
BO - Able to merge data from various sources in the same report, Can connect to any Database, very flexible in design
BEx - Gets data from BI
    Implementation effort and ownership cost:
BO - Longer deployment period compared to BEx, Additional server needed, May require additional components setup for BW, May need separate license for Business Objects Enterprise (BOE) platform, BO uses OLEDB for OLAP API via BEx query, may cause an overhead, BW Accelerator may be needed to improve query response time, scalability and visibility.
BEx - Only MS office and BEx client are needed for installation, BEx is bundled with NetWeaver

  • Selecting Wildcard ' *** ' as a value in Bex and Active Table for DSO

    Good day
I have search SDN, but could not find a similar request/enquiry.
I am extracting master data for vehicle category and vehicle sub-category via DB Connect from an Oracle db. From a source in Germany, the vehicle subcat is filled with '  ***  ' due to business reasons. This '  ***  ' carries a value and BW should be able to display all the '  ***  ' for a certain vehicle category in BEx and in the master data or active data in DSO when transaction data is loaded. The master data is loaded with the '  ***  ', no problem there, but when you want to display only the subcategories = '  ***  ' , then all the data for all the subcategories registered under the specific category will display:
    Master Data
Vehicle Cat  : Vehicle Subcat : Description
    Z : *** : Freigtliner
    Z :  CAT : Caterpillar
    Z : DD : Detroit Diesel
Thus Z and *** will display the data for Z ***, Z CAT and Z DD.
Is there a way I can change this and only display data for ***?
Your expert assistance will be appreciated.
    Cj

    Hi,
You mean to say is you need to display attributes of vehicle category?
If so.. then add vehicle category in rows and then right click->attributes->select the sub category. Right click on the vehicle category and then properties->choose for no display.
Accordingly you can choose whether to display or not to display in properties.
Execute and test the query for your results.
    Hope this helps,
    Regards,

  • Difference between ISU ABAP and normal ABAP

    Hi ,
Can anyone tell me what is the difference between ISU ABAP and normal ABAP..Is there any difference..if So..what is the difference...also it will be veryuseful if any one has document regarding ISU ABAP..
    Thanks & Regards.

    Hi,
From technical point of view, there is no difference, Instead of using R/3 tables you will be using IS-U tables in you select queries etc...
Functionally there are differnce in ISU and R/3 (SD/MM/PM/FI etc..)

  • Hi All difference between abap and hr-abap urgent pls

Hi All difference between abap and hr-abap urgent pls

    Hello,
To add to the above points regarding infotypes
Infotypes stand apart in  HR and manage a volume of data in HR domain..they are unique to HR module ranging from basic employee information to time management and finally the custom infotypes.....
Payroll and other monetory activities related to an employee also form a vital part of the HR module....
while considering Reports..in HR data is mainly with respect to infotypes and the concept of PAKEY...7 key fields which uniquely defines any record in an infotype is used..with Pernr(employee number),Begda(begindate) and Endda(enddate) form an integral part of the key..Based on the time constraints(1,2,3) of an infotype the keys are judged (to retrieve data from an infotype)
In ABAP HR we also have lots of predefined function modules that can be used..eg:go to se37..put 'HR*' and press F4...
finally to update an HR infotype record we use the function module hr operation rather than direct updates...also there are standard audit trail reports that monitors various activities such as insert/modify/delete operations on an hr infotype record...
Pls revert back for clarity and reward if helpful

  • Difference between checking Objects in SU24 and in ABAP code

    Hi all,
What is the difference between objects checked in SU24 and the objects checked in ABAP Code.
I think if objects are even checked to No in SU24 and they are in ABAP code then user is able is able to execute that object, is this correct?
and vice versa, if objects are checked to yes in su24 and not in the ABAP code then user wont be able to excute? is this correct
or what is the purpose of maintaing objects both in SU24 and in ABAP Code.
    Thanks,

It is context specific, when the context is known to the customer system where the code is running => You cannot activate a check in SU24 if it is not coded anywhere (please distingish between starting a transaction, using it, and navigating further from that transaction...). The only case where SAP does what you seem to be assuming (or hoping for...) is infact to turn an authority-check off in some cases or to make the calling context known when it is remote (in which case sy-tcode or the entry point context is not known)...
*It is not to turn the check on when it is not coded anywhere!!!
Perhaps you would like to phrase your final question just one more time.

  • Webdynpro Java and Webdynpro ABAP

    hi all,
Im working in webdynpro java. Im confused about WD java and WD ABAP. which one we should select for what? And now a days people are telling that SAP is coming up all business packages in WD ABAP. Is it true? Which one is better either WD Java or ABAP?
    Thanks,
    J.Smitha.

    Smitha,
It's tough question to answer. Which one to choose either Web Dynpro java or Web Dynpro ABAP , it depends on which technology you are comfortable. In relation to the business packages SAP already provided allmost all of them in java and in the future all the Business packages also available in ABAP. It's all how you want to develop the application. In sap portal world some applciation which we can develop with ABAP Web Dynpro and some applications with JAVA Web Webdynpro as SAP Web AS available as dual stack.
If someone already has a strong ABAP background and has WD for ABAP available they should probably use that. If they are a J2EE developer they should probably use WD for Java but it is likely they will also then need some ABAP support for the backend systems.
I think more customers may be asking for WD for Java projects simply because it has been around longer and is more widely available to customers where as some cutomers prefer to develop their application using ABAP Web Dynpro because of SAP propritary. But ultimately it's again all our interest and customer.
    Thanks

    Hi Sir ,
Please have a look below .Hope it is suitable and simpler solution for your question.
    Please do reward if useful.
    Thankx.
HR deals with the INFOTYPES which are similar to Tables in General ABAP.
There are different ways of fetching data from these infotypes.
There are different areas in HR LIKE Personal Admn, Orgn Management, Benefits, Time amangement, Event Management, Payroll etc
Infotypes for these areas are different from one another area.
storing of records data in each type of area is different
LDBS like PNP are used in HR programing.
Instead of Select.. we use some ROUTINES and PROVIDE..ENDPROVIDE.. etc
and in the case of Pay roll we use Clusters and we Import and Export them for data fetching.
On the whole Normal ABAP is different from HR abap.

Orgn related Infotypes start with HRP1000 to HRP1999.
All custom developed infotypes stsrat with PA9000 onwards.
In payroll processing we use Clusters like PCL1,2,3 and 4.
Instead of Select query we use PROVIDE and ENDPROVIDE..
You have to assign a Logical Database in the attributes PNP.

    Few notes are below:
    InfoSets in the HR Application
You can use SAP Query in HR to report on HR data. Queries are maintained as described in Creating Queries. The special features of queries created for HR are described in Maintaining Queries in the Human Resources Application. The maintenance procedure for HR InfoSets differs from the described procedure inasmuch as HR data fields are grouped together in infotypes.
InfoSet management in SAP Query is also used for InfoSet Query. For further information, see Functions for Managing InfoSets.
If you want to create InfoSets for HR, you can use logical databases PNP, PNPCE, PAP, and PCH (see HR Logical Databases). The database you must use to create your InfoSet depends on the component in which the data you want to report on is stored.
The reports you can execute using InfoSets based on logical databases PNP (or PNPCE) or PCH are similar, but differ in that they can select different objects. The following table describes the connection between the logical database, and the infotypes you can include in an InfoSet. It also provides you with one or two examples of reports that you can execute using the appropriate InfoSets.
    Logical database PNP/PNPCE* PCH PAP
Selection of Persons Objects from Personnel Planning Applicants
Infotypes that can be included in the InfoSet Infotypes for· Personnel Administration (0000-0999) · Time Management (2000-2999) · Payroll infotypes · Infotypes for Personnel Planning objects that can be related to persons If the object type is specified:· Infotypes for the object type · Infotypes for objects that can be related to the specified object typeIf the object type is not specified:· All infotypes · Infotypes for Recruitment (4000-4999)· Some infotypes for Personnel Administration (such as 0001 and 0002)
    · Customer infotypes
Reporting examples · Selection of all persons who participated in a specific business event, output of prices for reserved business events · Selection of all persons assigned to a specific personnel area, output of qualifications held by these persons · Selection of all business events held in London in March, output of all persons who participated in these business events · Selection of all positions assigned to a specific organizational unit, output of all persons assigned to the positions · Selection of all applicants hired last year to work on special projects, output of addresses for the applicants selected
Logical database PNPCE (PNP Concurrent Employment) functions just like logical database PNP. The procedure for creating InfoSets is also the same. It only becomes significant if you work with Concurrent Employment.
    Creating InfoSets
The maintenance procedure for HR InfoSets differs from the procedure described so far in this section inasmuch as HR data fields are grouped together in infotypes. To set up an InfoSet for the HR application, proceed as follows:
    1. On the initial screen for maintaining InfoSets, enter a name for the InfoSet and choose Create.
    2. On the next screen, enter a name for the InfoSet and select one of the HR logical databases in accordance with your reporting requirements.
Customer infotypes can be created on all HR logical databases. In each individual case, therefore, you must decide which database to select so that you can report on customer infotypes.
This screen enables you to enter an authorization group. All of the queries that are subsequently created using this InfoSet can only be executed by persons who have this authorization group.
    3. Choose .
This takes you to the Infotype Selection for InfoSet  screen. You now have the option of creating field groups and assigning fields as required for non-HR InfoSets. Field groups that correspond to infotypes and already contain fields, however, are always created for HR InfoSets. The field groups are displayed in an overview tree in the top right section of the screen.
The infotypes that you included in the InfoSet are displayed in an overview tree on the left of the screen. The infotype fields that are already included in field groups are displayed in a different color, and the corresponding field group ID is displayed.
In the standard system, a field group is created automatically for each infotype that you included in the InfoSet (a field group corresponds to an infotype).
In the standard system, each field group contains the infotype-specific fields. To ensure that working with the InfoSet is as easy as possible, you are advised to restrict your use of fields in each field group to those you really require. This means you should remove fields that are not required.
An infotype's fields must only be assigned to the pertinent field group. Make sure this assignment is correct. If the assignment is incorrect, the InfoSet could be rendered unusable.
When an InfoSet is created, the following fields are transferred automatically to the first field group:
§ Logical database PNPCE or PNP Personnel number
§ Logical database PAP Applicant number
§ Logical database PCH Object ID, plan version, and object type
    6. Determine the fields that must be included in the field groups of your InfoSet. If you require further information, see Assigning Fields to a Field Group.
If you want, you can change the default sequence of field groups and fields as required using Drag&Drop.
    7. To save the InfoSet, choose .
    8. To generate the InfoSet, choose .
On the Change InfoSet (InfoSet name) screen, you can choose Edit ® Change infotype selection to add more infotypes to the InfoSet, or to remove infotypes from the InfoSet. Remember to regenerate the InfoSet afterwards.
This screen also enables you to update InfoSets if, for example, the system contains new additional fields for specific key values. To do so, choose InfoSet ® Additional functions ® Update additional HR fields.
    9. Go back to the initial screen for InfoSet maintenance.
    10. Choose User group assignment.
    11. Select a user group, and save your entry.
