BI 7.0 project by a solution management approach

I have to implement a BI 7.0 project by a solution management approach and i have also received the road map for it. Can someone please tell me how this solution management approach works for BI 7.0. Please provide some material and links if possible too.
Thanks,
Neha.

Hi Neha,
In case of any implementation with Solution Manager you will get a flavour of defining the project scope, project members and all kind of details and along with it you can use some pre-existing tempelats which suits ur need.
You can also generate IMG which will help you to configure your BI7.0 system step by step.
But as per the installation you will have to install Netweaver04s SR1 with which you get the BI7.0 component.
Hope it will suffice your requirement.
Thanks
Manas

  • Centralized View for all the Project Document in Solution Manager

we assign roadmap to our Implementation project and as per roadmap we upload different documents for the project(e.g. business case, project charter) at different phases of roadmap. can we see all the documents related to a project from a single centralized view??

    Hi B_J,
it is correct, each document has attributes, on the attribute tab in the button bar, there is an icon to generate an url for the selected document. This link is stored in your windows clipboard, so you can past this link in an e-mail or wordfile. The person who gets the e-mail must have access to the Solution Manager via network, he needs no personal user in the system. The link used a service of Solution Manager(check in the Solution Manager IMG at the HTTP services). This service requires a user to read the document. If you have no user, then it is necessary that in the system a default user is assigned to the service or to its alias. Now to your second use case, the approval, you can not bring any information INTO Solution Manager, you can only answer the e-mail, with the info, yes the document is OK, but you can not set a status or an other attribute at the document, that the document is approved.

  • Project controlling with Solution Manager

    Dear SolMan community,
we just finalized in a SAP Retail implementation project the planning for the release phase. Input for the planning activities were numerous functions that were already created in SolMan. We decided to use Excel to conduct a bottom-up / top-down planning. The SolMan function defines the scope. For every function we defined planning elements, namely start/due dates for functional documents, business concepts, customizing, development (RICEFW), and most important the unit test date for the function. The problem we have is that we have the SolMan content and the release planning excel in parallel and might suffer from a redundant maintenance. The release plan has almost 1.500 planning lines in it, and keeping it consistent with SolMan is something likely impossible. Has anyone experience in using SolMan for project control in release phase? I need various views on the SolMan content for my project control, but can´t see that SolMan reports give me the flexibility I have with Excel. And even if you download them to Excel there is still some maintenance required before one can use them for controlling purposes.
Any help is very much appreciated.
    Regards,
    Markus

    Hello Markus,
If you have maintained an implementation project in the SAP Solution Manager with transactions SOLAR01/SOLAR02 you have a lot of reporting possibilities with transaction SOLAR_EVAL.

  • How to Lock an entire Project in Solution Manager ?

I am trying to lock our project baseline in Solution Manager.   I have locked at the highest structure node, but have noticed that there are lock options on each business process and/or process step and they are 'unlocked' even though I locked the highest level node in the business process hierarchy.      Surely I don't have to individually lock each one.   Any suggestions?

    Hi
    goto solar_project_admin tcode
choose your project and goto change mode
goto scope tab Chosse the tick Edit Structure
if you also want to lock maintenance of admin tab etc then you can choose the second tick also
this will disable changes in solar01 for project hierarchy creation.
    Hope it resolves ur query

  • Solution Manager project export / import

    Hi,
is there any possibility to export the project files from Solution Manager, change some data in an other program and then import them back to solution manager? This whole import/export process should work automatically.
The entire thing is to avoid that the users have to work with the Solution Manager instead of their usual and well known programs for project management.
    Regards

    Hi Andreas,
Currently there is no possibility to perform this.
    kind regards,

  • Exporting a Solution Manager project

    Hello Solman experts,
My prof. wants to know if it is possible to export a solution manager project to another Solution Manager. So experts, how to do an export of an project an how to import it in another one? If there is no possibilty please tell me also!!
    Thank you for answering!

    Hi Simon,
It is true that the transport is easy if the connection for transport between the systems is created correctly.
    But the consequences are delicate.
E.g. a project that is assigned to a released transport request cannot be deleted.
And there are difficulties to change the projects in both systems back to be local. Any change to the origin project needs authority to add the change to the transport if the project is not defined to be local ($TMP in transport tab).
To avoid this problem you can copy the project first by the transaction SOLAR_PROJECT_ADMIN and then transport the copy.
Another point of view is: If the origin project was defined to be local ($TMP in transport tab) some assigned objects may got lost (e.g. links, assigned users, testers). On the other hand: if you define the transport request first before creating objects to the project you enhance effort for maintaining the project. Because any change has to be added to the transport request. And the users need the authorities to do so.
I hope this additional information helps you too.
    Best regards,
    Adelbert

  • Solution Manager instance install with on differnt platform than ERP system

    Hello,
I am working on a project to implement Solution Manager 7.0 in our landscape (SAP 4.7).  Our current servers are running on HP-UX 11 with Oracle 9.4.0.2 database.  We are considering implementing SolMan on a different OS (Linux & Windows the primary candidates, the DB is yet to be determined, but will likely be Oracle 10 or MS SQL) that will allow for easier monitoring for the existing admins.  I have heard that if an instance is created on a platfor other than the typy we're already using, that SAP requires an expensive "certification" of this platform that will be added to the existing system. I have heard numbers in the $100,000 range for this, possibly per server.  Is this true, and where can I find more information on this subject?
Thank you in advance for your prompt response.

Hi Tom, in SAP that's call Heterogeneous system landscape. You should read this note Note 1067221 - Composite note for heterogeneous installation for mor information about it.
About the "certification" I don't think that's true, because SAP has been working on this from many years.
    Hope this could help.

    Darwin

  • Configuring Solution Manager: Alternative Role to SAP_ALL

This is a general question regarding configuring Solution Manager and note 834534.  I am configuring Solution Manager 7.0 at a client site.  The main components that I am configuring are on the Monitoring and Operations side; for example, System Monitoring,  Service Desk, Issue Management, and Change Management for Maintenance Optimizer.  CHaRM will follow later on.  Additionally, the client would like to use the project side of Solution Manager.
When I took training for Solution Manager from SAP, the SAP instructor advised the class to have SAP_ALL when configuring Solution Manager  The problem I am having is that the client will not issue me SAP_ALL in the Solution Manager instance, regardless of the recommendation in note 834534.  I can understand the client's reluctance to issue SAP_ALL, even though Solution Manager is not a financial system in of itself, however, I have found that I am constantly having to ask for authorizations as I step through the wizards and the Scenario-specific settings.  When I run into issues which require further investigation by running transactions to check certain settings that are not specifically tiedd to a wizard or scenario-specific setting transaction, I run into further delays as I ask for additional authorizations to troubleshoot issues.
We have implemented the roles and assigned them to my ID in Solution Manager as outlined by the SAP Solution Manager Security Guide to the fullest extent possible; and I have been issued "Basis Roles" that the client issues to their Basis team.  Regardless of these actions, I still run into authorization issues.
My question is, apart from the SAP Solution Manager Security Guides recommendations (which does not mention SAP_ALL), is there a role being developed, or has been developed that can be assigned to the Solution Manager configurator in lieu of SAP_ALL (as per note 834534)?  I would think that this issue has been raised before, particularly since many companies have implemented SOX controls and are skittish about issuing SAP_ALL.
    Your feedback is most appreciated.

    Thanks for the reply, Nesimi.
While I appreciate that you do not use SAP_ALL, is that the case when you are configuring a brand new, clean system?  Are you using the Configuration Wizards with out SAP_ALL? I ask this because when I ran the first configuration wizard, one of the steps is to create a "configuration user", which creates a user with SAP_ALL. However, I cannot use that wizard generated user ID because it has the role SAP_ALL.
In general, I am operating on 3 sources of information that says I need SAP_ALL to configure the system (not necessarily to operate it):
    1.  An SAP Instructor for the Solution Manager Operations and Monitoring Class
    2.  The IMG Activity "Create Configuration User" documenation in SPRO
    3.  Note 834534
I will review the english version of the link http://help.sap.com/saphelp_smehp1/helpdata/de/40/8ac473d40943ddb23def12bdb33437/frameset.htm that you have thoughtfully provided.
With respect to note 123640, I am not sure if that solves my problem or answers the fundemental question that I have in that given the 3 sources I quoted above.  It seems to me that SAP's approach in indicating clearly that they prefer that the configuration user should have SAP_ALL is flawed given today's corporate governence policies.  Clearly this recommendation is only for the initial configuration, and SAP_ALL can be taken away and replaced by the roles and recommendations in the SolMan security guide; to maintain Solution Manager.  But when it comes down to the question "what do you need to configure Solution Manager, because we won't give you SAP_ALL", I am hard pressed to give an answer despite literally spending hundreds of hours researching "documenation" which does not give clear cut answers.  I think SAP needs to address this issue instead of taking the easy way out and saying you need "SAP_ALL" as illustrated in the 3 sources of readily available information cited above.

  • Usage Solution Manager Solution Directory

    Hi,
Does anyone knows what is the purpose or usage of Solution Manager Solution Directory?
    Please and thanks
    Kumar

    Hi Kumar,
In the solution directory you can manage your solutions.
One of the challenges you face in production after completing a project successfully is preserving the knowledge gained from the project and keeping it up to date during operations. SAP Solution Manager's solution concept is designed to help you do this. A solution contains information about system, software components and business processes(scenarios), which you can transfer from your project to SAP Solution Manager. You thereby ensure that all of the information can still be accessed and consolidated further after the project has been completed.
You manage solutions in the Solution Directory. Solution offer the following advantages:
    - All assignments in the SAP Solution Manager project are available;
    - The scenario and business process structures are transferred to the solution;
    - Configuration object assignments are readily available;
    - You can use test cases in the structure to effectively test changes that have been made;
    - You can reuse e-learning materials from projects in the solution;
    - The solution has the same system landscape concept as the project, which means you can reuse the structure when upgrading.
    Regards,
    Daniel.

  • Solution Manager for custom application

    Hi all,
I would like to know how Solution Manager can be used as a support for custom development projects.
For example, does SM support the adoption of Scrum?
How can I use it to keep track of development tasks shared by developers?
Does it support UML or other software design tools?
    Thanks, regards
    Vincenzo

    Hello Vincenzo,
For Development Projects, Solution Manager follows the ASAP methodology for implementing a SAP Solution. This method can also be adopted for your own Custom Development Projects.
Whether Solution Manager Support SCRUM, Well to a extent yes as the implementation project has different phases and milestones. However there isnt a 1 to 1 match.
How do you keep track of the shared tasks by developers. You have a roboust Change Management Module built in Solution manager which can be used.
At the moment Solution Manager can be integrated with the development workbenches for SAP ABAP and SAP JAVA. You might have to work around it a bit to Integrate any other Design tools.
Hope that this answers your query.
    Regards
    Amit
