BI ABAP and BI PORTAL

Hi
I would like to know some basic information on the following questions:
1. What is BI ABAP stack and BI ABAP System?
2. What is BI Portal and its use?
3. How can we know that J2EE is installed on BI Server?
4. How does this all together work?
Regards
Annie

Hi ,
Ans 1.
Tha ABAP stack consists of your Integration Engine and Business Process Engine.
The J2EE stack contains the Adapter Engine and your IR and ID run on the J2EE engine
t-code: sxmb_ifr for IR,ID,RWB,SLD.
sxmb_moni to monitor the messages in integration engine
Ans 2. bi portal
The enterprise portal is the front-end component for SAP NetWeaver. It offers a single point of access to SAP and non-SAP information sources, enterprise applications, information repositories, databases and services in and outside your organization—all integrated into a single user experience. It also provides tools to manage this knowledge, to analyze and interrelate it, and to share and collaborate on the basis of it.

    Hi all,

2.what effect it does on the ume options to be choosen??
3.for the purpose of integration of r3,bw and crm on portal and crm 4.0 60.2.3 business package which option of stack(java or abap or both)will be good option and which ume option while installation should be choosen?
    regards
    Rajendra

    Hi Rajendra,
The NetWeaver Installation Master Guide offers some good scenarios on the pros and cons:
    https://websmp201.sapag.de/~sapidb/011000358700005412792005E.pdf
    In a nutshell:
    ABAP+JAVA
    Pros
    - Decrease # of servers required to administer the portal
    - Less costly
    Cons
    - Upgrades could be dependent on ABAP and Java release level
    - Additional load on the server due to ABAP stack
    - Limited scalability
JAVA and ABAP on separate server
    Pros
    - Improved performance
    - Allows each system to be single-use purpose therefore downtime does not affect other components
    - More scalable
    Cons
    - Adds complexity to landscape
    - Additional costs

  • How authentication and authorization works in webdynpro for abap and portal

    Hi Experts,
I have to create an webdynpro abap application for portal which will update the user information in the backend HR standard table.
The SSO  (certificate)setup is already doen between portal and backend sap system . Do I need to pass the portal userID to the webDynpro ABAP application, via IView created to update the table. OR SSO will take care itself.
    Thanks and regards,
    Ajay

    Dear Ajay
If SSO is configured as you have mentioned, then all is ok and you don't need do pass the user ID.
    It will be done automatically.
Just try for yourself - create a simple WD ABAP and put it inside an iView.
Then have this WD to write the SY-UNAME on the screen.
That way you will confirm what I'm saying
    Kind Regards

  • Webdynpro for ABAP and Portal Integration

    Hi Experts,
we created a WebDynpro  for ABAP application for portal. The application will modify/update few fields in backend sap HR table PA0006 (infotype 6) . The end user (portal user) should be able to update his data in backend with the iview created on this application.
I have below two questions in my mind.
    1. Do we need portal eventing for this? It's a single iview in portal which will fetch and update his data through this WebDynpro  for ABAP application.
    2. It is for 10 countries of almost 1000 users (with same userid in portal and backend). How can I make sure that the enduser updates and fetch his records only. The SSO is already set up between Portal and Sap ECC system. Do I need to again pass the enduser portal id to the sap in coding to fetch and update the data or sso will take care of itself.
    Thanks
    Ajay

    1. Do we need portal eventing for this? It's a single iview in portal which will fetch and update his data through this WebDynpro for ABAP application.
Answer: If you use, for exemple ITS to access this Webdympro, you will not need any action on portal for sure. Actually you will just need actions on portal, if you want to make some customization on portal side. If you want just show the Webdympro how it is, your action are all on backend..
If you access via ITS, te custome will acess the backend with the user you have set on the SSO or user-mapping. The portal there is nothing to do in this regards, you must just take care of this on backend.
Please evaluating the answer you are contributing for the SDN keep growing.

  • How to check ABAP and Portal connections

    Hi
I was told to check ABAP and Portal connections. What does that mean? And what and where to check?
    Thanks
    Annie

    Hi
    Thanks for your reply.
We are on BI 7. SP16.
When i run that in se38, i am getting the following information: No default in RSPOR_T_PORTAL and no user parameter RSPOR_DEFAULT_PORTAL" when i clicked on yes(tickmark), view BI_Content of web template 0ANALYSIS_PATTERN(A) is displayed
There are two options with check box are present 1. 30 template present (Unchecked) 2. BI- Template Present (checked), and a big XML code is displayed.
When i executed in browser mode, it says Windows cannot find'/irj/servlet/prt/portal............... make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again. to serch for a file, click the start button, and then click search"
    What does that mean?

  • NetWeaver Portal and ERP 6.0: BI, ESS/MSS and full Portal on one machine

    Hello,
with ERP 6.0 you need a EP Core Portal for BI Java. An other EP Core Portal for HCM ECC/MSS. The iViews from this portal you integrate in the main portal via federated portal. But in this scenario i need to much portals and have a lot of maintenance costs (administration overhead for evry portal). For a small Customer i will build one Portal for all. It is possible e.g. to use the BI Portal with ESS/MSS and as full portal?
    Best regards,
    Patrick

    Hi,
So you would like one BI installation with both the ABAP and the Java-stack with the full BI-functionallity and additionally the XSS-component and set it up to work against the ECC ABAP-only system ?
I think the scenario would actually work, but:
    1) You might get future problems if you want to upgrade your BI-system and not the ECC-system.
Is it possible to run the old XSS-components in the new java-stack ?
    2) You might get future problems if you want to upgrade your ECC-system and not the BI-system.
What if the new version of the XSS-component demands certain java-components which the BI-system do not have.
So my recommendation is still to run the java-stack on both systems.
ECC with the XSS-java-components and BI with the Bi-java-components.
This way you do not lock yourself into a corner and each system can be upgrade independent of the other.

  • Double stack BI and Enterprise portal for SSO

I am in the process of configuring a double stack BI and SAP Enterprise Portal. Both systems are residing on different domains. We want to utilize the standalone SAP Enterprise Portal for our BEx etc. For that I have exchanged certificates between the ABAP and the SAP Enterprise Portal systems and with the help of Support desk tool I have overcome the certificate issues. The RFC connection from ABAP and SAP Enterprise Portal works fine. The Support desk tool is complaining now about the prefix of these two servers. Also when I check the connection testing between these two systems all the messages are correct except for WEBAS connection it complains about the ping service which is already active on ABAP side. For Connectors it complains about SSO which is not detected/complained by the Support desk tool (0.426). I need your advice:
    1. Either uninstall the JAVA instance of BI or
    2. Make a Federated Portal network by making the BI JAVA as PRODUCER and the SAP standalone as CONSUMER.
The Support package levels are the same as EHP1 SP 7 of both the double stack BI and the standalone Enterprise Portal systems. The source of users are both local to the systems.

    Hi,
Tha ABAP stack consists of the Integration Server which in turn contains your Integration Engine and Business Process Engine.
The J2EE stack contains the Adapter Engine and your IR and ID run on the J2EE engine.
Ever wondered how and where the XI pipeline gets executed? It happens in the ABAP stack.
All messsages picked by the Adapter Framework running on the J2EE engine are passed to the Integration Engine, which does the routing. The mapping program again gets executed on the Java stack and the rest of the pipeline servies are executed again on the ABAP stack and so  on.
Take a look at the XI overview doc to understand this better,

  • WebDispatcher on ABAP and JAVA on serperate Servers

    Hi all,
i read a lot of hours trough post concerning issues about web dispatcher, but i didn't find anything that suits my problem.
We have a MSCS-Cluster. One Node has the db which is for ABAP and JAVA (different schemas).
Than we have an SCS for ABAP and one for JAVA.
So the ABAP and JAVA-Instances are physically separated.
Now we want to use a web dispatcher to pass the requests to the right destination.
But i am not sure how to set it up. Do we need 2 dispatcher, or can one handle the requests. How does the dispatcher knows, where to redirect the requests ?
Is that done with the parameter icm/HTTP/redirect_<xx>  ?
in hope of any advise to this problem
    yours
    BjoernTrabes

So, i tested around a little bit.
i am not clear with the function of the dispatcher.
When i bind the ABAP Dispatcher, than all requests to /sap/ are handled by the ABAP-Stack an are working, but when i browse to an Adress like /irj/portal/ the dispatcher says that the Adress is noch reachable.
When i bind the dispatcher to the Java-Stack, than all Java-Adresses work, but the /sap/ not, which is the ABAP Stack.
so, i don't know exactly where my fault is.
How knows the Dispatcher, where the ABAP or JAVA-Stack is.
On an other Machine where the java is an add-in, it works quite well, but on this server the abap and Java Servers are physically separated.
    greets

I have developed application using webdynpro for abap and it is working fine. The problem is we can not get sso working . i.e. even though we configure SSO but still getting the screen asking to login into
    sap web application server again
This is the 1st wda we have developed and not sure whether we can apply SSO with wda as it is find with webdynpro for Java. The basis team has gone thru all the configurations and could not understand why it did not work.
    Thank you in advance.

Thank you for your quick response.
    1. Is the portal certificate added to Backend ? - yes
    2. Is the Backend and Portal in Same Domain ? - yes
    3. Are you accessing the Portal using FQDN ? - No, we use web dispatcher to redirect. But the same result if we access Portal using FQDN.

  • Time out parameters for ABAP and JAVA instance

    Hello All,
We are looking for Time out parameters for our ABAP and JAVA instances.
As users are complaining that they are getting time out error
while they are trying to access Cprojects from Portal.
I was able to check/collect the ABAP instance parameters from SMICM Tcode.
Can anybody tell me which parameters we need to look for JAVA instance.
    Thanks in advance.

  • How to upload ABAP roles in Portal 6.0 N/W ABAP + Java

    Hi ,
I have portal 6.0. How can i see the ABAP roles in portal. I know there is some backend system need to configured. please write step by step. I can create users in portal which is replicated in ABAP.
i have gone thru some forums but did not get the answer.

    Atul-

Thanks for your reply... I am new to Portal. the document you sent me I did not understand where to configured backend system. please let me know where do I configured below information in portal
When you create a system with a connection to an ABAP-based backend system, you must maintain at least the following property categories and properties:
    Property Category
    Property
    Connector
    Group;
    Logical System Name, e.g. QWACLNT100;
    Message Server;
    SAP Client;
    Message Server;
    SAP System ID
    User Management
    Logon method
User mapping type (if you want to take advantage of user mapping)
    Internet Transaction Server (ITS)
    ITS Description, e.g. qwa_its
    ITS Host Name
    ITS Path
    ITS Protocol
    Appreciate for your reply...

  • ABAP and Java Stack: Which to choose/supported standards and components?

    Hello,
I am trying to understand the role of the two stacks in NW. Maybe anyone has a few
hints where I can find answers to the following questions:
    - An overview of supported Standards (Java 5 since when?)
    - An overview of which component runs on which stack? Portal->Java, Integration Server->ABAP and so on.
    - Guidelines when to install both stacks and when to use just one stack? When do I use which one?
    - Has SAP an stategy towards an one Stack solution (possibly Java?)
Best regards and thanks for any pointers!
    Stefan

An overview of supported Standards (Java 5 since when?)
    Go to service.sap.com/pam
Product Availability Matrix will tell you about supported version and platforms.
An overview of which component runs on which stack? Portal->Java, Integration Server->ABAP and so on.
Usually the question goes the other direction: what stacks we need for implementation of a particular function?
More and more products require ABAP backend and Java frontend.
For example Employee Self Service has been transerred from ABAP only ITS based to ABAP backend and Java frontend.
    Same with SRM.
Guidelines when to install both stacks and when to use just one stack? When do I use which one?
Same as above, driven by business requirements, not technology.
Has SAP an stategy towards an one Stack solution (possibly Java?)
No. Core business functions are still being developed on ABAP and interface, GUI etc utilize JAVA.
