Bizarre alias file keeps reappearing in Trash Can...

For the past few weeks, I've had an unknown little file popping up in my Trash Can every time I open up or start up my MacBook Pro.
The name of the file is "␀␀␀õ␀␀.õ␀" (yes, that's exactly what it looks like), it is exactly zero KB in size, is an alias file, and was modified December 31, 1903 at 8pm. It's frustrating because emptying and securely emptying the trash doesn't get rid of it. However, if I try to move it or Get Info about it, it then disappears only to reappear again when I open up the laptop later.
I have verified, repaired and then re-verified disk permissions (which corrected some issues with Airport-related files) and I have verified the disk itself (which turned out to be OK, thank God). I also enlisted the help of a brilliant IT friend of mine who had me do some kind of "sudo" command in Terminal where I drag and drop the file into Terminal to get rid of it, but that didn't work (possibly because I may have inserted the file in the middle of the line of code my friend had me enter, and I can't remember exactly what the line of code was so I can't retry it at the moment).
Since disk permissions and the disk itself appear to be functioning normally I'm not as worried about this little glitch, but at the same time I would much prefer that this gremlin would begone from my system. Please advise! Thanks kindly.

It's just really odd to me that it would occur in the Mac partition of the drive, since it's an issue with the Windows partition.
Haven't gotten around to checking it yet, I'll let you know how it goes.

  • Does Any one can indicate me how to delete recovered files found on the trash can?

I´ll appreciate very much your help indicating me the best way to delete recovered files found on the trash can.

The Getinfo pane has several sections. Next to the top is "General". At the bottom of that section, under the row of colored dots is a checkbox,  [√] Locked (and not checked means not locked).

  • "AddressBook-v22.abcddb.incompatible" files keep appearing in Trash.

NOTE: I am using an AFP mounted network home from an OS X Server. This is very important to keep in mind. If you don't have actual experience with this environment, please don't answer. Thanks!
    * AddressBook-v22.abcddb.incompatible files keep appearing in ~/.Trash
    * I have already rebuilt the database, rebooted, logged in/out.
    * I have already removed the files, purged the Address Book database, and re-synced from MobileMe.
    * The files continue to appear.
This ONLY occurs on the 10.6.x machines. It does NOT happen on 10.5.
Has anybody else seen this and been able to resolve it in a network home environment? Thanks!

    Hi,
I’m using a 10.6 Server with OD network accounts. I had the same files appear when a user was logging in on a client running 10.5 (PPC Mac) and the next time on a 10.6 client. Sometimes when this happened the user’s address book was completely empty and had to be restored from backup. The problem went away when we started to only use 10.6 clients. Of course this meant to replace all the PPC Macs with Intels...

  • Deleted Files keep reappearing

I've tried everything - there are 12 files which after deleted and emptying trash - keep reappearing on my desktop
I've recreated the Trash Bin, ran Chkdsk, started in SAFE Mode and deleted, nothing.  Any ideas on what is causing this and how to remedy?
    thanks

Only have 1 account - that's mine and it is the administrator.
What are these files? (full name & extension?)
When were they created? (date & time?)
By the way - running a machine on just one admin account is a high-risk way of doing things. If something went wrong with this account you would have a huge problem. In these forums we deal with such issues on a daily basis. A spare admin account, fully
tested and documented, is as important as having a spare house key (and for much the same reason!).

  • I deleted my files and emptied the trash. can i get the files back?

I deleted my files and emptied the trash. Can I get my files back?

    Maybe...
If you have a removable battery, remove the battery and the power.
If not, hold down the power button until the screen goes back and you are forced to restart the Mac entirely from the power button (do not respond to any shut down window.
Either way, files may reappear in the trash, or where they were located.
If not, you'll probably need a data recovery program*:

  • Files Keep Reappearing

When I delete my files from Robohelp and from the server, they tend to reappear.  I believe the project is causing this.  What can I do to make this stop.

If files are reappearing after they are deleted this is due to there being a reference to them somewhere inside your project. Have you tried using a find and replace tool to see where they are referenced? The application in RHs own Tools tab makes a decent stab at things if you haven't got another application.

  • Alias file wont move to trash

ok im new to mac. i just bought one about 1 month ago. im having trouble deleting these files. i found a guide to help remove an application and all its content along with it. its been working find right u until now. it removes everything else but these files. i've tried using terminal and drag and dropping in trash (but file won't move at all). its like stuck there and it wont let me do anything to it. any help would be nice. i cant rest until i delete it. here is what i get...
i downloaded pocket from the app store and as well as for safari plugin... keep in mind that i can not drag and drop these files or command+delete them..
none of these options help either...

First, do not install "AppCleaner." It's dangerous and useless.
Second, those are not files. They're Spotlight search results. If you've deleted the files and the index hasn't been updated yet, they should disappear eventually. If not, the Spotlight index is corrupt and you should rebuild it.
    From the menu bar, select
     ▹ System Preferences ▹ Spotlight ▹ Privacy
The list of items excluded from Spotlight indexing is shown (it may be empty.) Click the plus (“+”) icon to add an item to the list. Select your volume (under DEVICES) and add it to the list. Then remove it from the list by selecting it and clicking the minus (“-“) icon.
Spotlight will rebuild the index. If you try to do a Spotlight search now from the magnifying-glass icon in the top right corner of the display, a pulsing dot will appear in the icon. When the dot disappears, the indexing is complete.

  • Strange looking file keeps appearing in Trash -

Over the past two days I keep finding a file called "␀␀␀õ␀␀.␀␀" in the Trash and if I do a Get Info on it it usually disappears. The next time I open the Trash it re-appears however.
If I empty the Trash without listing the contents first, it will again disappear but then the next time I open the Trash it re-appears again. This is really frustrating because the Trash always seems to have stuff that needs to be deleted.
I've used Terminal to look at the .Trash folder in my profile and done a ls -la to see all files including hidden files and there's nothing showing in the folder listing. However this **** file in he Finder keeps appearing.
I've also done a verify and repair of disk permissions and done a verify disk in Disk Utility. No problems were listed with either check.
Any ideas as to get rid of it?
    Regards,
    Jason

If you do an "ls on .Trash" you won't find it. If you do a "sudo rm -rf ~/.Trash", it's still there...
That's because it is, in fact, not there. It's on another volume. Are you running windows?

  • File keeps saying "damaged and can not be opened" when opened by acrobat pro 7

I can open the file just fine(using reader version 9 or acrobat professional version 9). However, when other people try to open the file with acrobat professional 7, it gives them an error. They are forced open it with acrobat reader.
I changed the version of the file to all lower versions that didn't cause a loss in functionality and ran into the same problems.
    Any ideas?

Adobe Acrobat Plug-In Version 5.00 for Netscape is what you have installed. <br />That is a very old version ''(released in May 2001)'', before Firefox was even a glimmer in Mozilla's eyes. It may not be compatible with Firefox 5.0 and it is extremely vulnerable to numerous exploits. <br />
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adobe_Acrobat#Security
I suggest that you upgrade to the latest Adobe Reader X ''(version 10.1)'', and see if that problem goes away. <br />

  • One numbers file keeps updating and i can't access it even on icloud.

I tried reinstalling numbers aplication syncing with icloud but this is permanent.
Last time i had use it i was sharing the file sending an email as an xml file.
How can i get my file back in use?
    Thank you

    Hi eruderu
Thanks for your post. It set me searching again, as I had the same problem. And contrary to "most of us" I occasionally do use Numbers on Mac and Pad. It appears the problem is not with iOS. Files are uploaded smoothly from the Pad to the Cloud. The problem then is to download it from the Cloud to the Mac.
And contrary to what Apple seems to suggest, this is not quite seemless. So it appears to be a Numbers/ OSX issue and not iOS.
The solution I found on the support site was to connect the iPad via USB to the Mac and sync. In which case you may just as well disable iCloud for Number, unless you have more than one iOS machine.
There appears to be another way to sync it, which comes halfway to the "seemless", as it does not require the USB connection.. It is presented as a sort of afterthought. http://www.apple.com/icloud/features/documents.html)
    1. go to http://www.icloud.com/iwork and sign in with your iTunes account.
    2. go to the Numbers file.
3 access any file synced from your iOS machine, or drop the file from your iMac that you want to sync.
Presumably the same goes for Pages and Keynote.
    Hope this helps.

  • I Made a bad desinstalation with adobe Illustrator cc, I put it in the trash can!

I Made a bad desinstalation with adobe Illustrator cc, I put it in the trash can!

You cannot remove a PDF file from "adobe" --- there is no computer application "adobe".
There's "Adobe" the software house. There's "adobe" the earthen building material.
Anyway, you've a PDF that must go to the trash can (& not collect $200 when passing GO).
    Two frequently used processes are:
Like any file on a computer you can locate it via your OS's file browser, select it then press-release the "Delete" key on the keyboard. The files goes into the "trash can".
Like any file attached to an email you can select the attached file (PDF, etc.) and then press the Delete key on the keyboard. The file goes into the the trash can.
    Be well...

  • External Hard Drive support Trash can?

Is an external USB hard drive supposed to support the Trash can in Lion?  I have my Lightroom database on an external hard drive and when I delete a file, it says the Trash can is not supported.

I've been having the same problem, to get it to work create a new folder on the external drive, then trash it. After this Lightroom starts to use the trash can again. However I do need to repeat this after a reboot/empty trash(not sure which one it is)

  • Empty "Recovered Files" folder keeps reappearing in my Trash

    Hello,
An empty "Recovered Files" folder keeps reappearing in my Trash each time I boot my iMac.
Is there any way to prevent this empty folder from constantly reappearing?
    Thank you and regards,
    Olivier.

I think this issue started in Tiger, however there was some freeware that would automatically empty the Trash on start up. I downloaded that software and it worked. It was called "RecoverTrasher". It worked with Snow Leopard, at least until last week when I had to delete my entire preferences file due to an unrelated issue. Now it no longer works on my iMac.
There is still a link to RecoverTrasher at http://mac.softpedia.com/progDownload/RecoverTrasher-Download-9415.html/, however, I don't know if it works with 10.6.4. This version is 1.4, and it still references "Tiger", but I downloaded it and put it into my log-in items, shut down and then restated. The icon for it briefly appeared in the dock, and the trash is empty, so it appears to have worked at least this first time with Snow Leopard.
I don't have any relationship with the author of the software, and don't make any representations about the software.

  • Creative Cloud keeps moving all of my files into the trash can

Entire folders and files disappear from my Creative Cloud folder and they get moved to the trash can. Is there a reason this keeps happening? How can I prevent this from happening in the future?

Ok, so this sounds like we need to investigate further to the cause of the deletes. Please send em your log files.
    The logs are located at
    Mac:
The log file can be found here:
    <Mac Hard Drive>/Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CloudSync/CoreSync-YYYY-MM-DD.log
(where YYYY-MM-DD indicate the date of the last log)
Note: The Users Library user folder is hidden on starting with 10.7 or later
    see http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/access-hidden-user-library-files.html
    Windows:
The log file can be found here:
    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\CloudSync\CoreSync-YYYY-MM-DD.log
(where YYYY-MM-DD indicate the date of the last log)
Note: The AppData folder is hidden by default this doc shows how to show it if needed

  • ITunes no longers asks "Do you want to keep the original file or move to trash?" - Can this be fixed?

I'm not sure if this was a recent update in Mavericks, but when I used to delete items from iTunes it would ask something along the lines of:
Do you want to keep the original file or move to trash?
Now I no longer get this, instead iTunes asks:
Are you sure you want to delete the selected song from your iTunes library?
After which, if you choose the option "Delete Song", you get no option to keep the original file, it just straight up deletes if from my library and hard drive. Does anyone know if there is a way around this? For whatever reason, I want to be able to keep the original file on my Mac, without keeping it in my iTunes library.
I've tried resetting dialogue warning, and this hasn't made a difference.
    Thanks!
