Black Login Screen

When I turn on my macbook it loads up as normal until it gets to the user screen. At the user screen the computer freezes for about twenty seconds then the screen goes black and a line of text appears reading <Darwin/BSD (Robs-Computer.local) (console)> and directly underneath it says <Login:>
When I type anything to the login spot two lines of text appear both reading <The Date The Time robs-computer netinfod local[ 31 ]: Cannot lookup child> then directly under that it reads <Password:>
But I can't type anything into the password field. All i can do is hit enter and the screen loads back to the user screen just to start the whole thing again in a viscious cycle of mind numbing madness. If anyone out there can give me some advice it would be a godsend.
P.S. And even if the computer would let me reinstall the software and start from scratch, thats not an option because I have files on that computer that absolutely cannot be erased. Yes I know I should have backed up all the info but i'm just stupid so i'm here asking for help

Removed Nouveau, installed Nvidia, black login screen

Hi there!
Seems like I was just here yesterday... But seriously, it's coming together.
Today I hooked up my second monitor and tried to get the "one big monitor" effect with noveau, but it wasn't recognizing my setup. I've had success with installing proprietary nvidia stuff before, so I did the
"# pacman -S nvidia nvidia-utils"
after removing "nouveau-dri" and the "libgl" business. I did all that from the bash login screen (which I'd like to keep as the first screen, instead of booting directly into GUI/DE). After I rebooted, like the guide says to do, the bootloader went through fine, but then sat at a black screen. After a couple of hard reboots I tried to just type root, password, and kdm, even though I couldn't see anything on the screen. That worked to get me into the DE. Problem is, that sucks and I have no idea how to get my bash login screen back, or what I did to lose it. Anyone know where to look or what to do? I've not found any info on the forum, or via google... Thank you once again!

My video card is an Nvidia GEForce 9400 GT. There are no "EE" errors in the Xorg.0.log, a couple of fails, to do with APCI, and nothing in the errors.log or daemon.log (whether or not I should look in those for this issue, I'm still learning. I did indeed run "nvidia-xconfig" as root. Not sure what I'm missing. It does now recognize both monitors after I blindly root login and launch kdm, but ya know... Below is the var/log/xorg.0.log in case this means anything to anyone out there... I'm thinking about doing a fresh install now that I know a few more things.
I installed the entire kdm-meta package and I only really want to install a terminal and do the rest of it that way, if possible. If it's any pennance for my blatant naievete, I am having fun learning from these mistakes! Thanks for the input non-noobs!

Black login screen, cannot start up

Hi everyone
im desperate for a little help. My computer will not start up. when i press the power button the white apple scren comes on then the dvd drive begins spinning very loudly. does it for a good 10 min....it then freezes on a blue screen for another 15 min...then goes to a black screen asking for login details. even when i do that it still wont log in stays at the blue and black screens. i dont know how to be able to reinstall everything because i thionk i have to reformat it again. but obviously i cant because i cannot load up the "install disc 1 " dvd.
Any suggestions at all please????

Yes it could be a hardware issue, when did you purchase your Imac? Is it a Rev A or Rev B?
but this only happens when i begin to download bittorrents, as long asi dont do that nothing has happened, its only what happens when i do begin to download again.
TIP...I am unfamiliar with "bittorrents" I don't download them, but ANY thing that makes MY Imac quit working I quite doing it! :~))
If you are looking for music downloads for Mac try Acquisition which can be found on VersionTracker.They use Mpeg format instead of bittorrents.

Windows does
all the updates
normally
without any error
during
the process,
but
each time the
system reboots
the machine,
Windows logo
appears
carrying
the system
and
when
it arrives at
logon screen
nothing pops up,

nothing more,

and
the only way
to make her

Hi,
I got the same phenomenon on my testing machine.
Every time when finished update install, the logon screen won't load immediately, I usually tab on the keyboard along with the mouse to call the screen back.
You may also try to use the Ctrl + Alt + Del and recheck this issue, the next time.
This might be caused by the compatibility between the driver and the OS, you may submit this issue throug hWindows Feedback Tool, and wait for the new update.

Where and How can I get the Black Lenovo Login Screen for Windows 7 for X120e?

I just installed Windows 7 on a SSD on my X120e. It is a fresh install and I really liked the Black Login Screen that my Lenovo X120e that came on the regular drive. Is there a way to download this screen and make my login screen back to this screen?

Create Recovery Discs from your HDD, then load them onto the SSD.

Login screen black on Mountain Lion

I upgraded my MacBook Pro 13 early 2011 to Mountain Lion yesterday.
I am having a problem with the login screen. About 50% of the time when I reboot, the login screen is completely blank, just plain black. The other screens I have connected show the linnen background as normal.
The login screen is there as I can login by:
pressing down arrow
pressing enter
typing my password
pressing enter
I have tried the various to try and fix it:
zapping PRAM
repairing the boot volume
repairing permissions
disconnecting my other displays
None of that did any good, it still keeps doing it.

It looks like this is being caused my the driver for my DisplayLink USB display adapter.
The driver was also causing Finder and Skype to crash.

I solve my problem of black screen when starting up my Mac pro, namely by the button lighting and then i saw the login screen. Hopefully it works for you too.

HP pavilion dv7 skewed login screen then turns black

My HP pavilion dv7 laptop turns on, but the login screen is skewed down and to the right. I can see the windows logo while logging in. Once I log in, the screen turns completely black. I also am able to see the screen when I log in via safemode, however it is still skewed down and to the right. Please help.

A few weeks ago I updated my OS to 10.4 and last week to 10.4.9.
Has been running OK until today. When I start up, I get the
light gray screen with the gray Apple logo and dial-thing. Then
instead of refreshing into the blue screen with the startup progress
bar (the one before the login screen), the computer refreshes
into a light gray screen with four black rectangles (bricks) across

A few days prior, I had installed a Flash Player update.

The four bricks on gray background is a Display/Driver problem of some kind.
What display card are you running?
My first thought was a display problem - but the card seems OK (info below)
because tartups from any disk other than the one running 10.4.9 are OK.
If the driver were bad would one expect to see the
Gray Apple start-up? Do you think reinstalling the 10.4.9 Combo
is the best first approach to resolve the problem?

I find some interesting posting in this forum. Thanks for keeping this forum to help windows/Lenovo community. I like to pick up the brain of this forum to resolve the black screen issue. I am not sure, whether it caused by virus. I use Microsoft Security Essentials. I am not able to run this in command prompt.
I started my laptop this morning & login screen showed up. Once I entered my login credentials, I heard the sound that usually plays once a login is successful, but I ended up with a black screen. After this occurred, I had to hold down the power button to manually shut down the computer. Once I started it up again, I was prompted to do a system repair, which eventually ended up with all successful outcomes, but I now have a black screen with a cursor before the login screen now. I have no idea what caused this to happen. My laptop is a Lenovo Ideapad Model Z580 (500 GB HD, 6GB RAM).
I am not able to get into safe mode or any other mode, which all leads to a black screen described above. I am able to use the "Repair Your computer" tools after pressing F8 during booting only . All other options leads to Black screen with cursor in the middle
Last Known Good Configuration leads to same
Enable Low Resolution Video (640x480) leads to same My Z580 is not responding to CTRL+ALT+DEL Windows Logo keys as well.
**** I tried SAFE Mode. It loaded couple of drivers and paused at CLASSPNP.SYS load. It went to Black screen with cursor at center.
I am able to invoke control pannel from Command prompt of working PC by typing control.
Z580 PC is not responding to control from command prompt (under Repair Your computer) either.
Z580 is able to use the "Repair Your computer" tools after pressing F8 during booting .
Under local user login it provided Start Repair option. As I pick this option, I got the following. Problem signature

Under Admin user login, it provided system recovery options. It is not picking up the recovery point created a while ago.
Windows Memory Diagnostics is not launching and shows a black screen without cursor.
I am able to get into command prompt. I tried the following there.

and got "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them "
I did findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >sfcdetails.txt I will be glad to attach the zip file that contain CBS.LOG & [SR] tag extract (xxx.txt).
I did not any find ERRORS there, SFC ended with message saying "found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them" . It is misleading. There is no [SR] tag pointing to corrupt files. Does SFC through false positive like this?

[SOLVED] Black screen halfway through boot before login screen appears

I originally installed my Arch Linux 64 system on a quad core intel cpu with 4GB RAM and a Nvidia 9600 GT graphics card. Arch is installed on 2 500 GB HDD running on software RAID and LVM. A few months ago I decided I wanted to upgrade my machine to an i7-2600K with 8 GB RAM and a Nvidia 580 GTX graphics card. Since I was using pure software RAID I knew that I could just reuse my installation. So I popped in the drives into the new machine and glory glory Arch booted just fine. One thing I notied though and this has been bothered me since then. On my old machine I could see the whole boot process from start to finish. On my new machine I only see the first few seconds and then a black screen for few seconds and then I get the login screen (KDM in my case). Now I'm running a pure systemd system and I can see the boot process until
[ok] started loading random ...
and then the black screen sets in. Why does this happen? Why can't see if udev, samba etc. start correctly anymore?

Black Screen after W7 logo before login screen - HELP!

Hi,
When I start windows, after Windows 7 start logo, I get a black screen for about 20-40
seconds, then a black screen with cursor for around 1 and a half minute and then I get the login screen, thats around after 3minutes.
I am facing this problem for quite some time now, I also did a clean windows installation
after wiping out harddisk using diskpart. But it was of no use, still I get that annoying Black Screen at startup and I think my laptop is a bit slow too. When
I open windows in safe mode, I get the Black screen there too but for like 35-45 seconds.
I also ran Dell PC Checkup, everything is fine.
I'd be really grateful if someone helps me find out what exactly is wrong with my laptop
and how can I get rid of this black screen, thanks!

Did you make any changes recently before this issue? Have you looked into the event viewer for any related recorded information? regarding to reinstallation, are you using a offical installation disc or an image customized by yourself? Any 3 rd party seervices
lauched on startup?
Unplug all the external devices, except mouse and keyboard and then restart the computer.
You can use this small tool Autoruns to check what is launched on a startup

Black screen after boot but before login screen

Hi,
I have a windows server 2012 machine running ADDS, recently I installed new hardware in to the machine but when I turned the server on windows would not fully load, in Safe Mode nor normally. So I removed the hardware I had installed but it
was still like it. The only mode I can boot and interact with the login screen is in Active Directory Restore Mode
