Blackberry 8330 - Automatically Close Unused Applications

I'm having a lot of trouble concerving battery life on my Curve 8330.
I have done all the usual recommended things to save the battery life.
I understand that one can do the ALT + ESC to view a list of open applications. However this can be cumbersome.
My questions specifically is...Does anyone know of any application or setting whereby applications might be automatically shut down when not in use, or when you navigate away without closing?
Ideally this would be someting that would only affect apps that you defined as not necessary to be running all the time.
Thanks!

Other than using the proper shut down of an app (Menu > Close or Exit), a powered on battery pull reboot will automatically shut down all processes running in the background.
I don't know of an app to do that for you. For instance, what if you want to allow something like Pandora Radio to run in the background, but the app you are looking for would automatically shut it down?

  • When demand is high does os x mavericks automatically close open applications?

    Hi,
I don't generally like to have lots of applications open but I do notice that even when I close some apps (such as iBooks or Preview) by clicking on the red dot, they are still showing as running in the Activity Monitor - Memory.
Will the OS automatically close them if I open other applications and the 'Memory Pressure' goes too high or will the MacBook just slow down until I mechanically quit them piecemeal fashion in AM?
NB: I'm am a recent ex-windows user so am not very familiar with macs.

To see which programs are running and to quit them, you can click on the Apple symbol in the upper left-hand corner of the screen and click on "Force Quit." Any programs that are open will show up in there.  To close them you can double click on them in the list and you will see the task bar at the top change to that program.  For example, if you see that Safari is open in the list, then, when you double click on it, the task bar will change at the top to show that you are now in the Safari program. To close it all you would have to do is to click on "Safari" and out of the drop-down box, choose "Quit", and it will close the program.
Or, you can click on the Apple symbol, and "Force Quit." Once the list pops up, select the one that you want to close and then click on "Force Quit" down below the list.  This will bring up a message asking you if you are sure that you want to close it, or something to that effect.

  • Automatically close unused programs...

I've been wanting this for a while but it's just something I don't see happening on it's own, so I wonder if anyone has any ideas. Is there something that will monitor my windows, and close certain ones after a certain amount of inactivity? For example, I sometimes open a few dolphins and once I'm done go back to chrome. Well it would be nice if after 10 minutes of not looking at those Dolphin's, that they would close on their own. Similarly with my pidgin buddy list, if it could close the window after a minute. Overall this would help to keep the task manager uncluttered but give me access to those things perpetually open like the music player and im client.

Other than using the proper shut down of an app (Menu > Close or Exit), a powered on battery pull reboot will automatically shut down all processes running in the background.

  • Can't mount dmg files, Applications button in sidebar automatically closes Finder, and Flash won't work in browsers

Although these problems don't seem to be related, they all started occurring at the exact same time. To reiterate
    1) Any time I try to mount a .dmg file, the setup window automatically closes
    2) Any time I go into Finder and click on "Applications" button in the sidebar, the Finder window automatically closes
    3) Flash player does not work in any browser
I have tried repairing permissions and this doesn't work.

    Hello Esperts
I pose the following situation to be analyzed and included in future versions of SAP BO.
In companies that handle a high volume of manufacturing orders and how to make the consumption of materials and receipt of production is the production order option, but deproduccion bill, requires the user to manually have to close one by a manufacturing orders.
The application is a parameter that SAP incubated for the closing process orders en masse, that it meets the condition that the planned amount is equal to or lower than received.
This process automatically close the orders completed.
Please discuss this request to include the functionality of SAP, is highly requested by our clients.

    Hi Janice,
I don't think you can to close a number of open purchase orders automatically. However, you may try by DTW to close them. Otherwise, you need to use SDK.

  • How to automatically open and close an application at specific times?

    Hi,
I am trying to figure out how to open and close an application at specific times.
I have set iCal up to open it no problem...however, the application needs you to click yes before entering into it upon boot.
How do I do this and close the app. I tried creating a workflow in automator, but iCal simply opens the workflow and does not play it. This also does not solve the issue of needing the 'yes' button to be clicked.

  • Blackberry 8330 Freezing Issues ( Need Assistance )

I have a brand new Blackberry 8330. I got it about a month ago. Its has a One ( 1 ) GB memory card and I've downloaded about a dozen apps to the phone, using the device memory. The phone displays an hour glass icon and freeze. I usually have to take the battery out ot get the phone working again, but to be honest, its a little annoying. I was wondering how I could upgrade my Blackberry 8330's device memory or if I could fix the problem by getting a bigger memory card? I tried to go thru my carrier's support system but, to be honest, it sucks. Any help you could provide me would be appreciated.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
There are three types of potential memory on a BB: 1) Application Memory, 2) Device Memory, and 3) Media/SD Card Memory
Application Memory -- This is the most crucial; it is the protected (not user accessible), dedicated, and fixed (in size) space that is available as the destination for the installation of applications (plus some application storage, overhead and such). You cannot touch AppMemory. You cannot improve the maximum AppMemory that your BB has. It is what it is. Applications can only install here...there is no option.
Device Memory -- This is space on your BB that you can touch to store files, pictures, media, etc. Typically, it is not terribly large, but it is available to you.
SD/Media Card Memory -- This is what it says...your SD card, for you to store files, media, pictures, etc. It can be as large as your BB OS can support...see this KB:
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB05461
The ONLY memory space you can increase is the Media Card -- all others are fixed at the factory. But, increasing Media Card Memory does nothing to help with your situation.
On some devices/OS levels, you can only see "File Free" (Options > Status), which I think is equivalent to AppMemory. On other devices, you can see all three memory usage levels (Options > Memory). Here are some guidelines to use:
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB15345
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB14320
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB14213
Lastly, it is always important to properly close applications when you are done with them. Using the Back or the Red key will not do this -- those leave it to the app to decide what to do...and some will leave themselves resident in memory, consuming resources on your BB, slowing the overall performance. Rather, to close an app, press and select "Close" or "Exit"...that will force the application to be closed, freeing up for your new use the resources it was consuming. Some apps will always remain running (typically -- BBMessenger, Browser, Homescreen, Phone, and Messages)...but, you should still close them properly - especially the Browser...if it is left on an active web page, it will not only consume extra resources but battery power as well.
Further, anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure. Some have taken to doing this on a regular basis as a preventive measure...some as frequently as once per day. Others have obtained the QuickPull app to automate a simulated Batt-Pull.
    Best!
    Good luck!

  • Acrobat XI Pro automatically closes itself with no messages etc. after few seconds

    Greetings all,
I don't know why but my Acrobat XI Pro (11.0.0) automatically closes itself (with no warning, no messages etc.) after few seconds. I installed the AXI as a part of the CS6 Master Collection on my Windows 8 (x64) laptop. Just as suggested at some other posts in the forum:
I checked the "security settings (enhanced)" tab but the protected view option is already off.
I searched for the eula.exe under the "Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 11.0" folder but there is no eula.exe. May it be not present because I installed it as a part of CS6 Master Coll. package?
I am using Eset Endpoint Antivirus as a third party Anti Virus Software.
    The problem occurs when:
I open up a pdf file from outlook etc.
I manually open a pdf file from windows explorer
I open adobe acrobat with no file to view
As I mentioned above, I see no error messages or warnings during the closing down. It acts as if I clicked the close button on the top right corner. I know that there are a lot of posts in the forum about this issue, but none of them helped me to solve my problem. I would be glad if you can help me with this problem.
    Thanks,

Hey i was having this issue also with Adobe Acrobat pro... it only seemed to be affecting one program that produced PDF output automatically. When the processes finished the PDF is supposed to be displayed and instead it would rapidly flash across the screen and close. THen i would have to hunt for the PDF to review its content. I tried a couple of things like deleting my preferences for acrobat C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Local\Adobe\Acrobat\10.0. You might have to show hidden files. In the explorer window select Organize-> Folder and search options-> once that opens view -> check show hidden files, folders and drives. then navigate that path above. Make sure adobe is closed then delete everything in there or move it off to another folder if your worried it will break it further.
That did not fix the problem though. I opened the application and ran my process again same results (adobe closes pdf auttmagically). so i opened adobe acrobat and navigated to Edit -> Preferences -> look under the General tab and click the select default PDF handler and that seemed to fix my problem. I also disabled the enhanced security look further down in that list under security enhanced. then a reboot so it is possible that the enhance security setting was the cause i think i will play with that for a minute to see if it was but i think my issue was the default handling. good luck

  • I have multiple iPhoto libraries and when I selecting which library to view (hold down 'option' key and launch iPhoto from the dock) it automatically closes another open apps window eg. Chome, Word. 1 app closes every time I launch iPhoto this way.

I have multiple iPhoto libraries on my Macbook Air 10.7.5 and when I am selecting which library to view (hold down 'option' key and launch iPhoto from the dock) it automatically closes another open application window eg. Chome, Word. 1 app closes every time I launch iPhoto this way.

If you're pushing Option at the exact moment you're clicking the Dock icon, it's supposed to do that. Wait until just after clicking it.

  • JVM 1.5.0 error on close of applications

I recently updated to the 1.5.0-Beta version of the SDK. When I recompile and run my old applications everything runs fine until I close the application. When close the application I get:
    # An unexpected error has been detected by HotSpot Virtual Machine:
    # SIGSEGV (0xb) at pc=0x420734c0, pid=9581, tid=1097338048
    # Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (1.5.0-beta-b32c mixed mode)
    # Problematic frame:
    # C [libc.so.6+0x734c0] __libc_free+0x70
    # An error report file with more information is saved as hs_err_pid9581.log
    # If you would like to submit a bug report, please visit:
This only occurs when running applications in the 1.5.0 VM. I can compile in 1.5.0 and run in the 1.4.2 VM and I get no errors.
The most annoying aspect of this is that an error log file is generated every time I close the application.
Does anyone know how to fix this or what to do to keep the .log file from being generated automatically?
    Thanks

It seems that the crash occurs in a libcfree call, i.e. when VM runtime frees a memory.
    The bug is known

  • Blackberry Torch 9860 becomes unusable

    dear friends,
my Blackberry torch 9860 becomes unusable after three months of service. i have just used memboo memory booster on it, and it restarts without reopen. each time i pull the battery, when i place it again, it starts an never finish to load to pass the loading step to open.
what can i do or what Blackberry can do for me please??

    Hello Brandohn
    1) Make sure you have Blackberry Desktop Manager installed.
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/
    2) On your PC, go to Start > Run and copy and paste the following line exactly (meaning with the quotation marks):
    "c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader\loader.exe" /nojvm
    3) The Application Loader Wizard will appear -- click "Next."
    4) In the "Connection:" drop-down menu, you should see "USB-PIN: UNKNOWN". Click the "Next" button.
    5) You should then see a list of applications ready to be installed for your Blackberry. Hit Next and Finish and you are well on your way to getting your Blackberry back to life. Congrats! Just don't disconnect anything and let the lengthy process finish completely.
NOTE: If you do not see a list of applications mentioned in step 5 and instead see the message "The Blackberry Desktop Software does not have Blackberry Device Software for the device that you have connected to the computer. Contact your wireless service provider or system administrator," then you must download Blackberry's Operating System for your carrier and device.
    BlackBerry Device Operating System downloads:http://www.blackberryforums.com/blackberry-device-specific/
Just select the appropriate device model from the list and download the latest version. Install this download and follow the above steps again and you should be on the right path.
IF the above does not work or help, You will need to use JL_Cmder to wipe the device and subsequently load the OS to the device. Follow the instructions here:
    Download JL_Cmder http://www.blackberryforums.com/rim-software/18789-jl_cmder.html
    or download BBSAK http://bbsak.org/download.php
If JL_Cmder does not work, you can try this:
    KB10144, http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB10144
    and this: KB20371 http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB20371
    Additional information:
http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB24395 "Error 523", "App Error 523", or "JVM 523" appears on the BlackBerry smartphone

  • Blackberry 8330 and Mac Ical

Can anyone explain to me what I am doing wrong.  I cannot get Blackberry desktop manager on  a mac to populate my ICAL application on my mac with the events from my blackberry calendar.  It used to work fine with PocketMac, except it often doubled up all of the events.
I select the calendar I would like to be synced, It says it is done, no errors. but my ICAL never gets any of the dates.  I am debating going back to pocketmac, even though it often doubles up all my contacts often.
IS this just an issue b/c I have an 8330, and its an older model BB?  I love my BB but I am in real estate and need my contacts and calendar to be synced throughout all my devices
If you can help I would greatly appreciate it.
    Josh

My client is having precisely the same problem with the Blackberry 8330. She can't get calendar events that have been created or added on the Blackberry device to sync to iCal. It seems that calendar events created in iCal on her computer to sync to her Blackberry device properly.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thank you!

    Hello Group,
my name is peter stewart. i have a blackberry 8330. the problem that i am having is that when i go to profiles to try to change my ringtone setting, for some reason the voice activated dialing initiates when i did not even command it to. the two questions that i have are the following; 1. is there a way to fix this without taking it in for repair? 2. is it possible to remove the voice activated dialling feature without damaging or crashing the blackberry? if so how?
    thank you,
    Peter Stewart

    Hiya!
Voicedial is not removable from the device or the DM. It is actually incorporated into the application (that is why it doesnt appear in the applications list, but has its own menu item under options)
    " Blackberry x.x.x Core Applications"
there is an app that can remove core applications, give me a moment and I will try and find it.
