[SOLVED] Blank screen after SLiM login
Hello everyone, I'm very new to Arch as of a few days ago and I have been attempting to set it up in just about all the free time I can spare. I think I've spent about 20 hours total trying to get things up and running.
I am attempting to run Arch with LXDE, openbox, and SLiM. I finally managed to get SLiM up and running where I can login without receiving any errors. However, after I try to login I'm brought to a blank screen. Now.. I'm new to this and have followed all the Knowledge Base Documentation on how to get these three running but I guess apparently I'm missing something somewhere...
Keep in mind I have to type this manually as I do not have any Internet program installed. Maybe if someone can point out my error or make an additional recommendation, that would be great. I really hope I'm not asking too much, even a link to something that may help I would greatly appreciate.
I'm pretty sure it's something stupid I'm missing.. again, I've read through the Knowledge Base Documents numerous times and simply cannot find out what I'm doing wrong (I have the ATI Open Source driver installed).
~/.xinitrc (I have this setup for ~/ and /home | this is also set as executable)
#!/bin/sh
#~/.xinitrc
#exec ck-laungh-session dbus-launch openbox-session
login_cmd exec ck-launch-session dbus-launch --sh-syntax --edit-with-session /bin/bash -login ~/.xinitrc %session
/etc/rc.conf (skipped to the DAEMONS section)
DAEMONS=(hwclock syslog-ng network netfs crond slim)
If you need any more information I'd be glad to provide it if anyone is willing to help..
Thank you.
EDIT: Fixed typos..
Just another note. I can see my mouse after I login from SLiM and if I press alt+ctrl with any arrow key I can see the workspaces window pop up.

Just to be clear slim.conf should contain the following with no reference to lxde.
login_cmd exec ck-launch-session dbus-launch --sh-syntax --edit-with-session /bin/bash -login ~/.xinitrc %session
.xinitrc should contain:
exec startlxde
And ensure that dbus is in rc.conf. Place it after netfs.
I made the changes you suggested, now what happens is when I login to SLiM with my end-user, the screen goes black for a moment, then right back to the login screen.
EDIT: changed "--exit-with-session" to "--edit-with-session" in /etc/slim.conf
EDIT 2:
Is the ~/.xinitrc supposed to be setup like..
login_cmd exec startlxde ck-launch-session dbus-launch --sh-syntax --edit-with-session /bin/bash -login ~/.xinitrc %session
or is it simply supposed to be
exec startlxde
Hope I'm not asking too much.. I just don't want a broken system..
EDIT 3: Apparently it's "horrible typo day" for me. I had --exit-with-session before. I just typed it wrong in my post. Changed it back.

I have blank screen, after windows 8.1 upgrade on HP Pavillion 15-e005sv.
I have blank screen, only mouse pointer working after
windows 8.1 upgrade on HP Pavillion 15-e005sv.
Any help please.
This question was solved.
View Solution.First of all you need to get into safemode
for that press f8 or del key while starting the computer
then you will get many options there you must go to safemode
Secondly ,after getting to safemode go to 1.control panel ->2.Device Manager->3.Disable AMD HD Graphics
Thats all
then restart your computer to get into normal mode
May be if you upgrade your amd hd driver your black screen problem will be gone -
Login Problem: Blank screen after the login window?
I have a user who has a 2008 MacBook Pro 15" Intel laptop running 10.5.4. It is bound to AD, with managed mobile account on the laptop (cached user credentials). The user is off the LAN right now on a road trip and is having problems logging into the laptop. When she logs in with her user ID and password, the login window takes a long time (15 minutes!) to authenticate her, and then when the login window finally goes away and the user's profile starts to load (expecting to see the Finder, Dock, menu bar UI etc), nothing happens - the screen sits at the default desktop picture and the user's account never loads.
Her AD password has not expired. She is a local admin on the laptop too.
Other local user accounts can log into the laptop without problems.
I have 100+ other identical users who dont have this problem.
I assume that a user-specific file has been corrupted. Any guess on which ones?Due to the number of problems with "upgrading" to this OS level, I suggest you try the very clean and very forceful AutoLoader OS Reload:
http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-10-OS-Device-Software/Upgrading-OS10-devices-using...
Beware that it is completely destructive...the device will be "like new"...no data, no apps, no accounts, etc. Be sure you take a full backup first, as well as make full manual documentation of all apps, accounts, configurations, etc. Sometimes a restore reintroduces the very corruption one is trying to eliminate, and manual reconfiguration is necessary.
You can also use this to fall back to a prior OS if you desire...you can install any OS level for which you can find an AutoLoader. (Hint...search over on the CB site!)
Good luck and let us know!

SAP BPC 10.0 Web Client Blank Screen after login
Hi ALL,
We are using SAP BPC 10.0 Web Client with Adobe Flash Player 13.0.0.214 with IE 9.0 on Windows 7.0.
We face strange error where on only on certain PC, the BPC web client working.. On other getting Blank/Blank Screen after login (with "movie not loaded" on the adobe flash player).. Both PCs are having the same setting.
Even one of PC which previously working, starting this week suddenly getting the same error.. I have created OSS message and got feedback with also share this problem on this forum.
I have done several actions as mentioned on several SAP notes )1624267, 1664889, 1681147, 1694871, 1752971, 1798336, 1804221, 1806371, 1811218, 1820505, 1918631, 1968584), but still no luck..
If you have the same issue, kindly share..
Thanks and regards,
HeryYes .. Compatibility View also checked.. in several PCs, it is working well. both failed and working PCs have the same setting.
Just found another weird: in one working PC, 2 different windows local-admin users login to the same PC for BPC-web and getting different result (1 Ok ; 1 failed) ..seems it is related with the user profile and login-domain servers (we have multiple login-domain servers with load balancing mechanism).
Thanks and regards,
Hery -
PC fails to reboot and shows blank screen after automatic windows updates including SP
Pavilion- a1130n" WINXP ProfessionalC fails to reboot and shows blank screen after automatic install ing windows updates including SP 3
I would love to say that a refresh worked for me however it did not.It takes about 30 Minutes total I was able to trace part of the issue to a Registry Key that was tagging the processor. Because my BIOS manages its own temp gauge and windows is trying to
build on in I had to turn the BIOS one off as well as for some reason I get better funtionality with Visualization off.
I am still dealing with a lag but I was able to get ride of the freeze that made the computer completely useless. -

Hi,
On my DV6-3085 I sometimes power up by opening the lid and get a blank screen after a few seconds.
The screen will say Starting Windows, flash and then go blank. At this point the finger print scanner is still working and responds but you cannot obliviously see anything.
I fairly suspicious this happens after the laptop has not been used for a little while (overnight) after a lid close, so the Sleep light has stopped flashing and the laptop is in hibernate mode.
My guess is it is something to do with switching graphics adapters. I've not yet decided if plugging the power in first does or does not make a difference or being on battery or AC when the lid was closed.
I've got the latest drivers according to the HP driver update utility.
Anyone with the same problem or have a solutions?
Thanks,

When i'd been through all the steps, i got a loading symbol and ever since, all it comes up with is a blank, black screen and a mouse icon that i can move. I'm not 100% sure of the model though (appologies). What do i need to do??

Which Windows operating system am I running?
Is the Windows Version on My Computer 32-bit or 64-bit?

3rd gen iPod touch. I just get a blank screen (after a few secs of the apple symbol) when it is switched on or when connected for charging. I know the connections are OK. Suggestions/help please
I took the iPod to the local Apple shop. The guy put the iPod onto a docking station and checked it - answer "connections are OK". I have used the link before but have not gone through all its suggestions (although picked on the most relevant ones). I may have to go back. Thanks again for your suggestions
