Blue Screen of Death Problem

Hi, I have a Toshiba Satellite L455D-S5976 with Windows 7 Home Premium and a 32-bit operating system. I've been having problems with getting BSODs for well over a month now (I was out of town for most of it), sometimes within a couple minutes of restarting it. It has even occurred in safe mode, and after I tried a system restore. I downloaded Blue Screen View to see if I could find what the problem was, and I got different results for various crashes. It says that the first one was on 03/26/14, which I don't really remember, and the next ones were on 05/09/14 and 05/10/14, before I had to leave, and upon returning, it began happening everyday. The most common file is easily ntkrnlpa.exe, which seems to be present in almost all the crashes, though there are several other files. I understand that I probably need to update or replace those drivers somehow, but I don't know anything about replacing or updating plugins. Can anyone provide any help?

  • Persistent blue screen of death problems on Toshiba laptop pc; need help

    hey, guys,
I was hoping you could help me out here.  I have been experiencing persistent blue screen of death problems on my Toshiba laptop since December 21 of 2014.  The first two times I started having theses persistent issues, I downloaded a bunch of redundant programs and games onto my computer, some of which were virus infected.  I had these programs on my computer for a while before my laptop was taken in for repairs.  I eventually uninstalled some unnecesssary programs from my pc, hoping it would have fixed these issues, even tried windows update.  I didn't have a clue that my problems were due to virus infections/malware until the two most recent times my computer was taken in for repairs; I had always been thinking it was a defective driver.  My laptop has already been in for repairs at least twice due to these perpetual BSOD problems; I had Norton Internet Security installed on my pc before the Geek Squad team (who repaired my computer and found 312 traces of malware in my system during the virus test; I was told by them that I had mistakenly downloaded infected web browsers onto my pc) switched me to Webroot SecureAnywhere (they said it was better at detecting viruses/malware than my NIS), but even after my pc has been through repairs twice in a row, I am still experiencing blue screens (this only seems to have happened once each week, and on one occasion, I went through almost two weeks without it occurring).  I am pretty sure, that I haven't downloaded anything onto my computer infected with viruses/malware (each of the scans done by my Webroot antivirus have found nothing), I have only a few games/apps installed on my pc, and what I downloaded all came from Microsoft's official website.  I can't afford to be wasting any more money on repairs, and I am desperately searching for any possible way to fix this myself.  Any help would be appreciated.  I have a copy of two of the memory dumps from my most recent crashes (I also have the dump reports from my most recent crashes dating back to March 6; I got these from an app from NirSort called Blue Screen View, if you need those)  I also have my system specs:
    http://1drv.ms/1I6AsaE
    http://1drv.ms/1Qdsb7T
Note that many of these earler dump reports (the ones from March) came from viruses.  The ones from most recently as last month, I am not sure about.

Thrashing about this way gets us nowhere.
Best to restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents.
Settings > Change PC settings > Update and recovery tab > Recovery tab > Remove everything and reinstall Windows
Use the freshly restored machine for a day or so before any installations of hardware, software, or updates of any kind. If you get no crashes, the problem is not likely due to hardware.
Then add updates and other things slowly, keeping track of them. If you get crashes after that, give us the corresponding dmp files.

  • Will the BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death) problem ever be fixed? iPhone5s

I bought my iPhone5s in NYC. On the third day, BSOD came up, and restart. This continued for 2 days, making the phone impossible to use.5s because they said iPhone5s came out with this problem and many people experienced it.
I Live in France and a couple of months ago, i had the same problem. Went to a Genius Bar in London and they changed my iPhone for a new one (again). I had to wait 2 weeks for it to arrive from NYC and had it shipped to France once it got to London.
When I got my THIRD new iPhone5s, as soon as I opened the package and connected it to iTunes, BSOD and Restart problem continued.
On Monday, I went to another Ganius Bar appointment in Nantes, France and they actually did nothing for me, they told me that the only thing they could do is give me another new iPhone by ordering it again from NYC. So now, i have to wait another 2 weeks for my FOURTH NEW iPhone5s and hope that i don't have the same problem again.
Its actually unbelievable that loyal Apple customers (like me) who not only own an iPhone but a MAC, iPad and iPod are getting such a horrible customer service and product reliability. Whats goping on with Apple's product quality? I am really upset an frustrated because I seriously CAN'T be going to a Genius Bar every single time I have the SAME PROBLEM.
¿WILL APPLE FIND A SOLUTION FOR THE iPhone5s BSOD & Restart PROBLEM?
4 iPhone5s and the same problem on EACH ONE. #Shameful

This happens with jailbroken and physically abused phones (very rarely to defective phones under warranty).  The solution is to not jailbrake or allow physical damage.

  • Blue screen of death - 5.0.1. solve this?

I keep getting the blue screen of death everytime I load my computer (Thanks Apple!). Seems either going back to 4.9 or up to 5.0.1. are my options. So my questions are:
    1. Does 5.0.1. solve the blue screen of death problem (which I believe is something to do with my anti-virus software).
    2. If I do go back to 4.9 will I lose all my song information like number of times played, stars etc.

    hi Mike!
I think i'll give 5.0.1. a try and if I still get the blue screen 4.9 it is.
the standard BSOD problem with 5.0.0 was to do with a conflict with a certain kind of antivirus driver. this post contains the relevant details on how you go about fixing it:

  • BLUE SCREEN of death - solution

I think I found a problem to the infamous Blue Screen of Death problem that many of us XP users (particularly Dell laptop users) are having...the problem that happens when you take a photo on your iPhone, plug it in, and it gets recognized as a "Digital Still Camera" and then boom! BSOD. Sound familiar?
Go to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs
Find the Logitech Camera Driver and uninstall it.
This did the trick for me. Finally -- I had tried all kinds of other things. After I did this, the iPhone still got recognized as a "Digital Still Camera," but no BSOD. What happened instead was that another balloon popped up that said "Your hardware is installed and ready to be used." It then synced with iTunes as usual.
The next time I took a picture on my iPhone and plugged it in, it brought up a list of Camera/Photo programs (Canon Capture, Picasa, etc.) for me to choose from, but again, no problems with syncing to iTunes.
Hope this helps. This work for anyone else?
Dell Inspiron 9300   Windows XP   SP2

I had all of the same problems as you describe and my Dell also has a Logitech Camera built into it.
My solution was to upgrade the Logitech driver to the latest version from Dell support (Drivers & Downloads). The latest driver is v10.5.1.1125 dated 02/08/07.
After upgrading the driver, when I docked my iPhone, I got the "Digital Still Camera" and thankfully, NO BSOD, but like you, received "Your hardware is installed and ready to be used." In Device Manager under Imaging devices, I now see "Apple iPhone #18" (don't know what the 18 stands for).
    See driver detail list below:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\LVMVDrv.sys
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\dirvers\usbscan.sys
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ptpusb.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ptpusd.dll
    Provider: Logitech Inc.
    File version: 10.5.1.1125
iTunes sync'd up and also there was a prompt list of camera/photo programs to choose from, and being a user of Kodak EasyShare software, I choose this and checked the box "Always use this program." EasyShare was then launched and allowed me to configure for sync/transfer with this software, which I selected.
I can now take pictures on my iPhone, place in dock, sync with iTunes, sync/transfer photos to Kodak EasyShare, and have photos removed from iPhone by EasyShare after the sync/transfer is complete.
Finally, I think, this issue is resolved for me.

  • Same problem everyone else is having with Blue screen of death

Only I have a dell dimension e521 brand new computer have had for about 3 months now and my ipod worked fine until today. I plug it in the usb port and in about 5 minutes my computer will go to the blue screen of death. If I unplug the ipod I can work on my computer with no problems but the 5 minutes after plugging in the ipod the computer goes to BSOD. I am also working off of Windows Vista. Any fixes you can think of will be greatly appreciated. I saw other people where having similar problems but I didn't see anyone working off a dell.
    Thanks!

Well I've tried PRETTY MUCH all of the suggested solutions. I really don't feel like going out and buying another SCI card for my laptop only to find out it doesn't fix the problem. Yes, I'm on a Dell Inspiron 4150 laptop, running XP and connecting the iPod through the USB port on the SCI card (it's a dual card, which also has a firewire port).
I also don't feel like going through the hassle of buying a firewire cable only to find out that it doesn't fix anything either.
I spent a good hour on the phone with Apple tech support and got nowhere. She had me uninstalling, re-installing, re-booting, running msconfig, turning off Norton, setting the iPod in "disk mode", uninstalling and reinstalling some more, etc. and in the end nothing made a difference!
I can get the Updater to recognize the iPod, but when I click the "restore" button I keep getting that "can't mount iPod" error. (And I know for a fact that Windows is installed on the C Drive, so that can't be the problem.)
This is so frustrating. The tech support lady said if the last thing didn't work (which it didn't) then to call them back and they would continue to try and figure out how to solve the problem.
It really shouldn't be this complicated, should it? Why don't they make an iPod that is pre-formatted for use with a PC??

  • Windows 7 - Memory Dump problem ! Blue screen of death !! HELP

    Hey guys,
I have an iMac 27 inch 2011  running Windows 7 home premium 64bit using bootcamp. My computer specs are
    I Mac OSX 10.7
CPU - Intel i7 3.4 ghz quad core
    RAM - (16 gb )
VIDEO - ATI Radeon HD 2 GB
I installed windows 7 on my imac using bootcamp today. It was working fine until i started installing things and i ran into the blue screen of death saying Memory dump. This message only shows for about 2 seconds and then restarts my computer. It randomly happens, such as internet explorer or just on my homescreen.
Thanks in advance for you help.
    Thank you

To locate any of the forums click the Apple Support Communities link in the upper left of this page, then type in the first word of what you're looking for.
As for returning the machine no, I suspect you just have an installation problem. Macs run MS Windows in Boot Camp better than most dedicated Windows boxes.

  • Blue screen of death (not iWork's problem) on 5s

I've heard of people having the blue screen of death before. But unlike others my 5s just went to a blue screen on the App Store. Then it shut off and when It turned it back on it just went to the blue screen. It faded from blue then white and then to green. It wouldn't turn on for a while. Eventually I got it back on. Why is this?

I'm having the exact same problem here. Except it seems to happen all the time now. As soon as I click on my java application I get the Blue Screen... Did you ever figure out what the problem was?

  • Iphone 5s problem, blue screen of death

So recently my phone started to show visible vertical lines from the bottom of the screen, blue screen of death, white flickering ring around the edges and it freezes and goes through this loop of rebooting.  At first I thought it was a bug so I got the phone to update 8.1 but the problem seemed to have gotten worse from then on.   I did a factory reset sso there's no apps or anything on my phone. Does anyone know any at-homes because my AppleCare warranty just espired.

    Hi,
    1) Background Information
I am advising based on my similar experiences. I have the same problem and coupled with blue, red screens for the past days. And still trying to find a permanent solution to it. But at least i found a way to "wake" my phone up when it goes into "hibernation" mode! This reply is going to be long, my apology in advance.
    2) My method to wake the phone up:
    * take out the SIM card;
    * leave it a side for about 10mins;
    * plug the phone to charge;
    * hold down the Power button till you see the apple logo, and leave it to re-start.
PS: if you don't see the apple logo, leave the phone again for another 5-10mins and try all the above again.
I hope someone has a better and quicker way to do it.
    3) The methods i have tried so far to solve this problem:
    a) Phone reset by holding the Home and Power buttons: It didn't work.
    b) Tried "Recovery Mode"; to restore to factory settings and then restore iPhone with my latest backup: It didn't work.
    c) Now, trying the DFU (Device Firmware Update) mode. I hope this will work for me permanently.
    4) Findings from the WEB:
    a) Apparently, quite a substantial number of users facing similar problem. (Apple is still observing...no action. )
    b) Some suggested that it may due to certain apps affecting this random iPhone re-boot issue or and it has a popular term in the web, "Blue Screen Of Death". Therefore try to remember what was the app you last used before it goes into reboot loop.
    c) Some also suggested to remove/deactivate/bypass the auto lock screen function, and also to remove the iCloud syncing,.
    Good luck!

  • Error 13 = Blue Screen of Death?

Thought I'd try this board and see if anyone knows anything about 'error 13' and Panther.
I have been plagued by this error message which pops up whenever I try to print from either of my printers or burn a CD. This all happened after I tried to load a demo version of Adobe Illustrator CS2.
Over the last day I have tried the following:
    * deleted the apple.com.print preferences
    * reset the PRAM
    * unplugged, unpowered and restarted the printers and their USB connections
    * deleted the printers from the print setup utility and tried to reinstall them (but there too I get the 'error 13' message. Printers won't load but they do show up as if they loaded. Just won't work, that's all.
    * tried logging in as a new user, and then the printer message is "Not enough RAM" to print.
    * repaired the disk permissions from the CD
Generally I've done everything I can think of... except to reload the OS, which I hesitate to do because I have to first load Jaguar, then the Panther update, then the other updates. Last time I tried that things didn't quite work out.
I do have an external backup drive, which also got corrupted as I tried loading the Adobe Illustrator CS2 on that disk too. Dumb I know...
So... anyone know what 'error 13' means?
Is 'error 13' the Mac equivalent of the Windows Blue Screen of Death?
    Thanks for any input...

    Hello Pawel,
I have looked over the service request you mentioned about acquiring 2 PCIe-6537 at 20MHz sampling rate on all 32 lines. In order to narrow down this issue, I think it would be best to try only acquire from both cards without doing any triggerring etc. Also when performing this test, I would only want to acquire from 8 channels on both cards to see if this reproduces it. If this works, we can slowly add more elements to narrow down what the issue is and make us more effective to solve the problem.
I also wanted to ask if you have tried this setup on another machine and if it worked.
Along with this, have you tried to create two Digital Tasks in MAX and try to acquire for the same amount of time to see if the issue reoccurs here? This would tell us if this problem is connected to the driver/computer or LabVIEW.

  • Windows Vista Crashing When Ipod is Plugged In. Blue Screen of Death?

A week ago, my computer suddenly started to reboot whenever I plugged my 5th generation 80 gig Ipod in to sync. A blue screen will pop up, and automatically restart.
I do not believe this is the blue screen of death that appeared 2 months ago. I have upgraded to Itunes 8.0.1 when it was first released, and I had no problems until a week ago. I haven't heard of anyone receiving the blue screen of death since the update to Itunes 8 was released.
I have also lost all of my music from my Ipod, so I am anxious to figure this out.
Here is what the blue screen (certain passages paraphrased, the specifics were copied directly):
A problem has been detected and windows has shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
    BADPOOLHEADER
If this is the firs time you've seen this stop error screen, restart yoru computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Make sure all hardware and software is properly installed
If it continues, disable/remove any newly installed hardware and software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shawoding. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 for Advanced Sartup options, then select safe mode.

Any help you have would be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried the troubleshooting advice in this article?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1502
Was a file name mentioned in the stop message? usually something.sys That can be a clue to the problem is the Apple advice doesn't help.

  • Blue Screen of Death When opening iTunes.

I am at a loss. For the past six months I have been trying to figure out why my computer has a blue screen of death and then restarts "nearly" everytime i open iTunes. The "nearly" is what's driving me nuts because every once in a while it will open ONCE and then start crashing again. I don't even do anything to help it open it just miraculously works every now and then. It even craches the comp when starting iTunes in safe mode. The blue screen error says "Page Fault in non-paged area". iTunes worked fine for months before this randomly started happening. I have tried every solution I have seen, even ones that weren't for my problem. So far I have:
Manually uninstalled iTunes and QT and reinstalled the standalone QT then iTunes.
Disabled itunes helper and ipod service before starting.
Disabling all other services and start-up items.
Installed current bios and drivers (as far as I can tell)
    Installed current windows installer.
    Updated microsoft products including .net
    Updated Java runtime environment
    Replaced ram
I have a pentium 4 1.6ghz with soyo mobo and a RAID card(mirrior) set-up. 1 gig of pc133 ram. I can ul the minidump if needed.
I figured out how to load my podcasts on my ipod manually but I want to get a video ipod so I need itunes. PLEASE HELP!!
      Windows XP

there's a few more things worth checking on. but let's also capture a minidump of the crash and send it to someone who can interpret minidumps.
To set up your machine to capture a minidump, right click on "My Computer", select "Properties", select the "Advanced" tab, select the "Startup and Recovery" Settings button, select "small memory dump" from the popup. When it crashes, look for the MiniDump file. It's usually in the folder "C:\WINDOWS\Minidump" and is called something like Mini<number>-<number>.dmp.
send it to this email address
in the email, put the URL to this discussion thread, so that whoever gets it has some context. Also give as much information about the context of the crash (in the email) as you can.

  • Blue Screen of death - now can't load Windows (even in safe mode)

Last night laptop (Satellite L500 19Z; Win 7 64 bit) crashed whilst playing CIV4. Got a blue screen of death; before I had chance to read any of the error messages on it the machine rebooted.
It loaded windows in safe mode fine then, and informed me as it had loaded safe mode OK the problem will be related to some recently installed software and I should uninstall programs I'd installed until it would load normally. As it was late last night I shut down and thought I'd sort it in the morning (in retrospect this may have been a mistake ....).
Today, when the machine tries to boot up it attempts a Startup Repair; unfortunately this fails every time and it says "Startup repair has tried several times but still cannot detemine the cause of the problem"
I looked at the log it produces but it passes all the individual tests.
I also can't access the advanced options for system recovery & support, which appears on the Startup Repair dialog box as it demands I be logged in, which apparently I'm not (presumably as the machine never got to the windows login screen before trying the startup repair). The error message reads "you must be logged in to access system recovery options. If you are having trouble logging in please contact your computer administrator for assistance. please click OK to restart the computer."
I've had a go at booting into the various advanced options (safe mode, safe mode with command prompt etc. but the outcome is the same).
I also tried the Repair your Computer option from the advanced boot options screen, but after the screen where it asks you to choose the language and keyboard, I get the same login error mentioned above.
Is there a way to repair or even run the hard disk based windows recovery (haven't got the recovery DVD with me as I'm away from home for a couple weeks) without logging into windows? I would have expected there to be but have yet to figure out how to do it.
(there are no disks in the disk drive, no other devices attached to the laptop - I've tried it with mains power and with the battery and have not noticed any differences)
    Thanks
    James

Normaly the reinstall data is on a separate part on your HD, not in Windows.
The register is only used for Windows.
If it doesn't work you can always try to reinstall from a DVD later.
It does mean all your data on C:\ will be gone. If you can hook your HD on an other PC you can try to safe your work with a recover prog.

  • Blue screen of death on Toshiba P755-S5375 with ADOBE ENCORE CS6

I recently purchased a new laptop and installed Adobe Master Collection CS6.  I purchased the laptop for video capture and editing, as well as for blu-ray authoring.
Unfortunately, although the computer and software works fine for video capture and editing, I am unable to author a blu-ray.  For authoring, I am using Adobe’s Encore CS6.  After checking and previewing my creation, I attempt to build to disc using Encore.  About 2 seconds after clicking the build disc in Encore, I get the “blue screen of death” (BSOD).  This happens every time I try to build to blu-ray (only blu-ray has this issue; I am able to build to a DVD).  I am using an external blu-ray drive on USB 3.0.

We need to know the Stop code on the blue screen. If there is a file name mentioned, we want that too.
You can prevent the rapid disappearance of the blue screen during a normal boot by choosing this at the F8 Startup menu.

  • Blue Screen of Death -- Datebook gone, Addressbook in danger

Having some major addressbook/datebook issues with HotSync. I am using a Handspring Visor (the original, old model), Palm Desktop 4.0.1, Windows XP Home. I have not updated any of the hardware/software lately.
A couple days ago, when I synced my Handspring Visor, I got the dreaded "blue screen of death." I rebooted my computer, and then found that the Palm Desktop program wouldn't load. It gave me an error saying the addressbook database could not be opened. The sync log also gave me a series of messages like this:
"Some handheld records were not copied to your PC. Your computer may be full or you may have reached the maximum allowed records on the desktop. To correct this situation, delete some records and perform a HotSync operation again." (Below, I've pasted in the full log from the last couple days so you can see exactly what I mean.)
This morning, I synced the device again, thinking that perhaps the addressbook file had become corrupted and that a sync would clear things up. The answer was ... anything but!
I was able to get the Palm Desktop software to reopen by renaming "addresss.dat" to "address.dba." However, two major problems:
    1) The addressbook on my computer is totally blank. There are three files in the "Address" folder with these extensions: .aba, .dat, and .bak. All of them are only 1 or 2 KB in size. However, this isn't a total loss because my addresses seem to be intact on my handheld.
    2) My datebook has lost ALL data I've entered since roughly January 2008. All my previous years of calendar entries seem to be unaffected. This is the scary part because my handheld AND my desktop both have this problem. I tried the solution of renaming the datebook.bak file to datebook.dba (and giving the current file a .old suffix), but that did not fix the problem. Both files are 355 KB in size. I've also tried setting up a new users and copying over both these files one at a time, but that didn't fix the problem either.
Sadly, I was a fool and didn't backup my Palm files after the blue screen of death the other day; I didn't do it until AFTER that second sync this morning where my datebook data got lost.
Basically, I'm pretty sure I'm screwed about the datebook files. However, I would like to make sure my addressbook doesn't get erased from my handheld. Before my next sync, I feel like I should set the HotSync conduit prefs for addressbook to "Handheld Overwrites Desktop," but I thought I'd get some feedback from y'all before I did that. I am also really curious why I'd lose SOME of my calendar data but not ALL of it? That's the weirdest part to me.
Many thanks for any help you could provide.

When you sync the device to Palm desktop a file is created on the first sync with the extension .dat. When you sync the second time the data in the .dat file is copied to the .bak file. The process is cycled in that order. Each time you sync, the files are overwritten. If you sync once and notice the data is gone, don't sync again because the .bak file should have the recoverable data.
When you rename the files to recover your data you need to rename the files in the following order.
Close Palm Desktop, rename the .dat to .old. Next rename the .bak file to .dat. Reopen palm desktop and see if the data is there.
Try this and see if you can recover the data.
Here is a method for saving your data in a seperate location in case you lose data again.
The best way to preserve your data is to export the data in each category in Palm Desktop to a seperate folder on your PC.
Create a new folder on your PC somewhere that is convenient. Name it something like Palm Desktop Data. CLick on the link below and follow the instructions on that page for the export procedure.

With the data saved in the folder you created, make a copy of that folder and save to a flash drive, cd-rw or external hard drive. Anytime you make a change in Palm Desktop, export the data that was changed to that folder and save again to the external media.
With this process you can always import the data back into Palm Desktop anytime you have a problem with the data in Palm Desktop or if your computer/hard drive/device crashes.
