Bluescreen of Death

Hello, any help would be appreciated.
The other night I was on my powermac g5 and it crashed. I restarted, it went to grey screen, loading icon, and then blue screen and just stopped. I tried starting in safe mode by holding down shift while starting up and then releasing shift after the loading icon on the grey screen but it just completely shuts down after that.
help!

Hi sssnole;
That doesn't sound good at all. It sounds like it is time to take it to the shop.

  • Bluescreen of death installing camera drivers

Hi! When I plug in my iPhone, the regular synch part works, etc, but for some reason, whenever I try to go ahead and let it install the drivers for the camera, I get as far as "This driver is not certified - continue?" dialog box, and shortly after I click continue, the computer dies with the bluescreen of death.
This is with Windows XP SP2 (not Vista)
Anyone have any suggestions? I'm unable to pull pictures off of my iPhone as a result of this...
    Andy

Do you by chance have a logitech webcam connected to the computer or software from a prior logitech webcam being connected to the computer?
If so either removing that software or updating it to the latest version from logitech may get you past this issue.

Two issues.  The driver verified crash was related to readyboost.  I would turn it off at least to test, the others were called BCC116
"It's not a true crash, in the sense that the Blue Screen was initiated only because the combination of video driver and video hardware was being unresponsive, and not because of any synchronous processing exception".
Since Vista, the "Timeout Detection and Recovery" (TDR) components of the OS video subsystem have been capable of doing some truly impressive things to try to recover from issues which would have caused earlier OS's like XP to crash.
As a last resort, the TDR subsystem sends the video driver a "please restart yourself now!" command and waits a few seconds.
If there's no response, the OS concludes that the video driver/hardware combo has truly collapsed in a heap, and it fires off that stop 0x116 BSOD.
If playing with video driver versions hasn't helped, make sure the box is not overheating.
Try removing a side panel and aiming a big mains fan straight at the motherboard and GPU.
Run it like that for a few hours or days - long enough to ascertain whether cooler temperatures make a difference.
If so, it might be as simple as dust buildup and subsequently inadequate cooling.
I would download cpu-z and gpu-z (both free) and keep an eye on the video temps

  • BlueScreen of Death + Bluetooth Headset

Hi there,I just got a new bluetooth headset - Bluedio T2S - to use with my laptop - Lenovo T420s, Windows 7 Professional 64bit.Everything was fine (I even tested Skype with a Test Call), but when I receive a real call, after about 5-10s, boom, a blue screen of death. This has already happened twice, and under the same circumstances, so all I can guess is that the problem is indeed originating from Skype.Any help would be apreciated. Thanks

Please,  run the DirectX diagnostics tool. Go to Windows Start  and in the Run box type dxdiag.exe and press the OK button. This will start the DirectX diagnostics program. Run this diagnostics and save the results to a file. Please, attach this file to your post. Be aware that you will have to zip this file before attaching it here.

  • IPhone 6 bluescreen of death

I just wanted to set up my new iPhone 6 (128 GB). I restored from my old iPhone 5 via iTunes, when the setup process asked me about it.
I set up the finger print and on the next step (choosing the "zoomed" or normale display mode) the screen suddenly turned completely blue and then slowly faded to black in a weird pattern. I immediately disconnected the USB connection.
I tried resetting the iPhone (holding the home and sleep/wake button for at least 10 seconds), both with and without being connected to the Mac.
No dice! I won't start or show any sign of "life".
Any ideas what else I could try, before sending it back to Apple?

    Hey Florian Ziegler,
I have an article for you that will help you troubleshoot this issue with your iPhone a little further to see if it can be resolved:

  • IMAC 3.4GHz Intel Core i7 bootcamp  graphics driver error bluescreen

Purchased iMAC 27" 3.4 GHz i7 because I wanted MacOS as development environment and Windows for playing games - thought I'd found the dream machine.
Installed bootcamp, Windows 7, and finally bootcamp drivers
Checked and updated Apple / Windows until no new updates available
System operates fine under Mac OS, but frequently crashes under Windows 7 with bluescreen of death (graphics driver fault)
This occurs when gaming (Batman Arkham City, or simply using Google Earth, IE)
Updated driver for Radeon HD 6970M from ATI AMD website with same result.
Windows 7 now recognised a new driver was available for Radeon HD 6900 series and updated (this has the most recent release date being late last year)
System still has fault under Windows but driver appears to reset and continue without requiring a Windows restart (mostly).
A quick Google reveals I am not alone with discussions concerning the indentical proplem spanning several years and apple machines - generally pointing the finger at the lack apple SMC temperature control under Windows. Is this true? If so I not sure if I should expect a solution from Apple.
Is their a solution? I am reluctant to use third party software to control minimum fan speeds - mainly because I expect more from this machine (no matter which OS is running it).

    thanx Hatter,
I see InputRemapper had fan control added, not sure if it will be suitable for later machines. I'll see if I can find anything newer.
Last night used Windows for gaming - in the end the top edge of the iMac was to hot to touch - can't be good for the machine.
Wonder why Apple don't include a fan control function as part of bootcamp - it would seem a critical function to protect the hardware.
Is there a down side to running the fans harder (like wearing them out). I have been able tu use smcFanControl under OSX to raise the minimum fan speeds.before I reboot to Windows.
smcFanControl has speeds for ODD,HDD, and CPU. Does the iMAC graphics card (HD 6970M) have its own fan?
sorry lots of questions - to be honest kind of got hooked on Batman Arkham City ... and it runs very nicely, just a shame it cooks the hardware.

  • T400 Screen turns Black/Gray and System Freezes.

My screen turns black or gray and the system freezes.
The only way to fix it is to restart the system by opening all forms of power supply (adaptor and the battery).
Sometimes it works fine for a day or two, sometimes only for a few hours.
I think the problem has something do with my graphics drivers or some other driver from Lenovo.
I have used Lenovo Thinkvantage Toolbox to check for hardware errors and it shows that everything is working fine.
I have updated all drivers but still the problem is there.
I still have warrenty period left.
I bought my system 2 years ago and have never had any problem untill this one.
My system specifications are given below.
Model: Lenovo Thinkpad T400 2764 CTO
    BIOS version (Latest?): 3.18 (latest)
OS loaded (ex. Win 7 64bit): Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Lenovo default OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Basic 32-bit
    Updates from TVSU completed? Yes.
    Updates from Windows Update? Yes.
    Power Manager Version: 3.25
    RAM installed (brand and 1 x 4gb, 1 x 2gb, 2 x 2gb?) 2 x 2 GB
Model of discrete card: ATI Mobility Radeon 3400
    Any error notification? No
3rd party application installed for the graphic card? No.
Any particular application which is running on the time this issue arises? No.
Running on battery? AC? Docked on station? Error occurs in any state.
    Any solutions?
    Anyone had similar problems?
    Thanks.

My problem seems to be similar. Sometimes my screen also turns black unexpectedly and the notebook freezes completely! In some cases I see a bluescreen of death and in some very few cases it restarts automatically. If it does not restart automatically I have to hold down the power button for some seconds to turn the notebook completely off (so that the "power on led" left to the "battery led" is not illuminated any more). Thereafter it is possible to start the notebook again. So unlike user 400 I do not have to remove any connected power sources.
The issue seems to occur out of nowere and seems not to be related to the use of a specific software. My system is up to date with lenovo drivers and windows update, exept the BIOS, which I updated the system two times since the problem exists since more than half a year!!
I also give my system specifications below:
    Model: Lenovo Thinkpad T400 2767 WC8
    BIOS version: 3.16
    OS: Windows 7 Professional x64
Updates from TVSU completed? Yes. (exept newest BIOS)
    Updates from Windows Update? Yes.
    Power Manager Version: 3.25
RAM installed  2 x 2 GB (bought and placed by loenovo reseller)
Model of discrete card and integrated card: ATI Mobility Radeon 3400 and intel mobility 4 chip
Any error notification? yes, entry for bsod or kernel-power-issue in the system protocol (but no specific error)
3rd party application installed for the graphic card? No.
Any particular application which is running on the time this issue arises? No.
I use my notebook with AC connected, with battery and most of the time in the advanced mini dock! Since a few days the error never happened when the notebook was docked! So I thought it is a power issue or has something to do with the graphics card.
But now I found out, that the issue might be related to the wlan card! This is because I never had a wireless lan connection when the notebook was docked, since I use a LAN cable. But a few days before I had to use the wlan while my notebook was docked and the error occured after some time. Furthermore, as far as I remember the issue never occured when the wireless lan was switched off and not docked, but I will check that again.
The issue also never occured when I booted windows in safe mode.
    @400
Maybe you can check if it is the same for you with your wlan? Maybe together we can find out what the exact problem is. I want to find out what is the problem to get it fixed by lenovo. Until now they alwas said, that they had never experienced such an error.
    Please keep on reporting.
    Thanks for any help

  • Bootcamp 4, Windows 7, Time machine disk

    Hi,
I'm currently having an weird issue with Windows 7 x64 on my Macbook Pro.
I'm getting a bluescreen of death each time my USB Time Machine disk is connected.
Any other HFS+ disk doesn't make Windows crash, it's only the Time Machine disk.
I've try with Bootcamp 3.2 and i'm getting the same issue.
The only think I can see is the upgrade of Lion who modify my Time Machine disk.
    Cheers,

The version you have downloaded is an upgrade one, and you need a PC with Windows to download and burn it to a DVD or USB drive. You can't do it with your Mac, as it's a EXE file. Also, you can't use it legally unless you have already Windows on the computer

  • Generic Guide to fix Thinkpad issues.

Hey there. This is a small guide I threw together to help solve some generic issues that are encountered on T series Thinkpads:
No audio/choppy audio: Reinstall audio driver
No video out/improper resolution and no video acceleration: Reinstall graphics driver
No wifi/bad connection: Reinstall wifi driver, mess with channel settings on your card and router for better results.
Poor battery life: Use a recalibration tool, or charge up completly, then let it die COMPLETLY, meaning disable hibernaiton on low battery and let the computer DIE! This my help. If not, it is likely that you will need a new battery.
Bluescreen of Death!: Probably caused by a recent installation of a software program or driver. Boot into safe mode, and remove the newly installed driver/program. In rare occasions, it may be a hardware failure such as hard drive or RAM failure. Worst case scenario, you may have to reinstall the operating system.
Long Boot Time: Usually, make sure IBA is set to AFTER your hard drive, unless you need a PXE boot device on your network.
Missing Operating System/ blinking _: Windows/Linux/Mac OS X86 has been either wiped off the drive. You must reinstall the operating system, or the partition has been deactivated. To reactivate, boot of the windows XP/Vista/Linux cd and fix the MBR, or manually set it active using these commands in command prompt:
    diskpart
select disk x (where x= your hard drive number, usually if your laptop has only one drive, the x value is 0)
select partition y (where y = your OS partition number)
    active
    exit
    exit
reboot the computer, should be fixed
Beeping on boot: Thats never good at all..... anything other than 1 3 3 1 usually is a bad motherboard. Its gonna be a costly fix. 1 3 3 1 means no ram/bad ram. All you have to do is replace it.
Help i don't remember my password! I can't boot into my computer anymore!: Don't ask for help here. If you bought the computer or stole it, you'd better **bleep** have that password, or else you have a VERY expensive paperweight. Thats how IBM/Lenovo design their systems to discourage theft.
No power to computer AT ALL: Sorry to have to say this, but your computer is dead and gone. The motherboard is fried, and there is no way to fix it on your own. It will be very costly to fix, and better to move on to a new thinkpad.
    Txx Specific issues:
T30: May have defective RAM slot, hence the system will not boot. Repair costs around 50$. If you get a 1 long beep, and 2 short beeps on start up, just throw your machine away, as it has a dead motherboard, and is not worth the amount of money to repair it.
T40/T41/T42/T43: If you get NO VIDEO and NO BEEPS on startup, this is likely due to the fact that the video card contacts have broken off. A temporary fix is pressing down on the keyboard, or putting post it notes between keyboard and video card. Long term solutions:
    Reballing: $50+
    New motherboard: $150+
USB 2.0 ports functioning as USB 1.1, or not working at all!
    Motherboard issue. Must be replaced.
I hope that this guide will help most people with generic issues! Good luck to all! Suggestions welcome!

X41T: Dead from a power surge during a BIOS Flash!

what is reballing and who does it for $50?
I've been doing FRU swap-outs for a while, but now have two T40s with the symptoms you mention - no beep, no video, and no disk activity, so I'd like to try these "diy" fixes. I have the T40 HMM, but don't know where the video chip is - is there another resource for that?
lastly, the lcd in one working T40 with a sxga+ display is flashing on an off when I move the pc or the top panel - I can get it positioned where it stays on solidly, but I'd like to get it fixed - I can stimulate a flash by gently squeezing  the bexel jus above and to the right of the left hinge (right where the cable goes thru...
Thanks in advance for any suggestions

this was the greeting when i logged in some minutes ago ... this brings me to another thinking: the only thing archlinux cannot support are "bluescreens of death" (those, who changed totally to non-windows-os and forgot: = the nice screens that apear when your (windows)kernel is in panic) ... well, you can simulate simmilar things with fortune
    to the subject:
i wanted to install a 3rd OS on my notebook (besides the 2GBwinXP and arch), after removing finally SuSE 8.2 --- now, arch is my prime OS, winXP is kept only because of compatibility --- when someone wants to do something only a windows is able to (e.g. to crash the OS when you dont expect it to crash --- while clicking the most important button on such an OS ).
Now the thing is: i wanted to install something totally new (like i did about a year ago with arch while using SuSE) just to try to enhance the possibilities you can have with a A31p-Thinkpad (the 4kg must be worth something) --- i was searching on the internet for long, but i cant find anything better than arch (for my needs = stability, easy upgrade, clean /etc, latest packages, easy way to build packages, package-management with dependences-tracking)
gentoo --- maybe when it becomes mature, great docs!
sourcer --- maybe when it becomes mature, and cleans up
slackware --- not modern enough, but my favourite for years
SuSE --- >7.1pro are not longer "linux", sorry (but great package-repository)
RedHat --- Toys are nice, but this is not an OS, sorry
Mandrake --- very nice installer (i wish i have such a installer on archlinux --- not the GUI, but the possibilities (NTFS- resizing, ...)), but the system is to much "newbie-like" planed
FreeBSD --- the logo is ok, the system not up-to-date
i tried to build a generic, source-driven, linux (do it your self - linux), but the dependences make you crazy after the first weekend :-)
-> i'm going to install a 2nd arch on this drive ... it will become the backup-system
-> if someone can tell me another linux distro i should try i didnt already ... i'm hearing...

What do you mean by this?  I just scrapped a working up-to-date FreeBSD install for Arch Linux.  In my opinion the only thing FreeBSD was missing was good browser plugins and a good jdk.
    Jeff
-> JDK is too old (as you also saw)
-> some hardware are not supported (i cant watch TV over my USB-Hauppauge-card :-( ) ... the linux-kernel is better from this point of view
as i need JDK 1.4 and sometimes i like watching tv, it's not a big desicion, not to use FreeBSD

  • BootCamp, MacDrive and Gaming

I recently got a mac book pro, I am looking at installing boot camp for gaming. I want to keep the windows partition as small as possible i.e. have only the OS on there to allow for maximum flexibility. So i was thinking that i could simply install Windows XP on a 5Gb partition, then use MacDrive to allow installation of windows games on the main (MacOS hfs+j) partition. My question is, is this possible? i.e. does MacDrive allow for the installation of programs on a mac formatted drive? Particularly Steam?
I have searched all the web and have not been able to find an answer, if anyone has had such a setup working/not working your input would be greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't recommend it. I have been trying on my MBP and everything's up to date (10.5.2 + Vista SP1). I have been using Macdrive7 and yes it does allow you to install games on your Mac Partition(s) although I have had three vista BlueScreens of death and my external (HFS+J) has been "Damaged" as Leopard and Vista have put it and have had to back everything up and try again twice but it seems that if Windows has a tantrum and your drives don't get disconnected properly it will leave them read only and you have to reformat them. All of the BlueScreens have happened while installing to the Mac formatted drive. A few installs worked fine. I'm currently trying to find out why it's happening which is why I've buggered it a few times. I haven't tried installing on my Mac boot volume because I don't want to damage that.

  • BSOD Windows 7 32/64 bit - I will never buy a sb again

Creative knows the problem for years! And they are not able to fix the problem. What problem? The bluescreen of death you get when activating hw 3D audio in special games under Windows 7 32/64 bit. First I used the x-fi xtreme fidelity (2003) card under windows xp without any problem, than in 2009 I switched to windows 7. When playing my favourite game I got BSOD each time? I enabled the creative driver. I was searching for solutions, I read a lot and found out that many other x-fi users have the same problem. I had the hope that I could get rid of the problem by installation a newer x-fi card (titanium 2007, pci-e). But it didnt help. For 2 years I had to play in stereo mode. I thought all the time that creative will release a driver update. But nothing happenend. 2 days ago I had enough of playing in stereo mode, not being able to locate other players in game by their noices. I bought an Asus Xonar DS (not the newest card, from 2007), installed it, enabled the HW 3D audio settings with eax effects. No BSOD anymore! You know what, the sound is even much better. I can hear audio details I never noticed before in the game. Best 5. system I ever had.

I'm having BSOD under win 7 (64) with my x-fi gamer AND my old audigy 2 zs
It happens more when listening to music on youtube then when gaming and it sometimes happes on boot up.
I've checked all the other compontents to make sure it wasn't something else.
PC has been running smooth with onboard sound and neither of the cards gave any problems under XP or Vista (64)
Also the audigy 2 zs is working fine in my old pc.
Not sure where the problems is, ill give the beta drivers a shot. But it seems that alot of people are having problems with creative cards and windows 7

  • H77MA-G43 BLUE SCREEN in XP Pro

    Today I did build a computer to a customer, I used H77MA-G43 and Intel Core i3 2100 3,1Ghz, 4Gb corsair 1333Mhz memory.
When trying to install XP Professional on the new WD Blue-500G-drive I recieve bluescreen of death before the installation starts where Im able to format the drive and continue the XP-install.
I know XP is OLD but the customer did not want to buy WIN7 at this stage.
Tried with WIN7-install and it continues to the format-drive part (ie works fine), I did not continue there...

hi, have you solved the problem? I'm too interested to know more about your problem (I'm searching an m-atx board for a win xp installation).Let's hope someone will reply, in any case please if you find a solution please report if you understand what the problem was.
    many thanks
Not solved at this time, (will try IDE-mode on the drive).
Try H67-chipset instead when looking for matx-board...

  • Problem with Windows Installer package.  A required program couldn't be run

    Hello -
I have a problem re-installing iTunes on my Windows Vista computer.
This is my exact message - note NO Error Codes included:
There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.
Other similar problems to this that I've seen from Google searches have error codes included or different wording. This is exactly what I see.
Leading up to this, my printer had unexpectedly uninstalled itself (card readers were Drive H) and my external hard drive (which used to be Drive G) and the printer's card reader swapped drive letters all by themselves so now the printer/card reader is Drive G and the External hard drive is Drive H.
then I found that iTunes and QuickTime had also uninstalled themselves and I was getting BlueScreen of Death crashes.
I had to manually delete as many iTunes and QuickTime folders, shortcuts, etc that I could find since I couldn't do a proper Uninstall.
Now the computer is absolutely perfect (no more BlueScreen crashes) except I cannot reinstall iTunes and QuickTime - I get the message above.
    Can anyone please help me?
    Thank you!
