Blurry Images in Screen Saver - My Pictures

Some of my pictures are not displaying "crisply" when the my pictures screen saver is running. I would say that 60/70 % display properly.
I justed open a picture in iPhoto that was displaying inproperly and it opens fine. It was interesting though, when the photo initially displayed it displayed blurry but quickly changed to very crisp. The screen saver is displaying the photos like when a photo is initially opened in detail mode. Make sense?
What could be the problem?

Winston Winston, I figured it out!  I am so excited!
Thanks for all your help!
First I reset my photo stream.
I realized after going to my photo stream there were actually no pictures in it.  I thought I had it all set up right but what I actually had was a file called photo stream in my documents I "sort of attached" that file to the actual photo stream, which at times showed photo's in the photo stream.
When I realized there was really no photos in the actual photo stream, through iCloud, I went to iCloud.com and looked up how to add photos to photo stream manually from my PC.
I am in the process of adding all my photo at the moment and I am so excited each time a new photo appears on my TV through Apple TV.
Thanks for your patience

  • Slide Show Screen Saver Superimposed Images Flag or Ball -- Bug?

    Hi,
I have searched and found two other archived questions on this topic, but no real answers. Please help!
I have the screen saver set to do a slide show from the Pictures folder, where I have lots of family photos. This works fine, but about every 10th photo or so, it shows the picture, and the next image is the same photo, with a weird low-res ("jagged edges"), blown-up (full-screen), icon-like image in the middle, superimposed upon my image. It's usually circular, often has a national flag or comic scheme to it, sometimes has a face, and always has effects to make it look round like a ball, which it usually is in shape (though sometimes it's not circular). When I look, my images have not been altered recently and don't seem affected, so the problem seems to reside in the system, right?
I'm not a techie but I have used Mac since 1985 and remember reading several years back in one of the Mac mags about such a problem -- whether termed a trojan or whatever. I do have all my old Mac data and apps in a folder on my mini, so it's possible it could have been pulled over from my last Mac and a remnant of some prior vulnerability. But I've never seen this behavior before OSX, neither Norton nor ClamXav finds a problem, and I can't seem to find ref to that article by net searching or here. What causes this, and how can I solve it? It really bothers my mother-in-law to see pix of her grandkids with weird flags superimposed on them, and I'm wondering if this is some Mac problem with more serious consequences not yet discovered by Norton or ClamXav. Thanks.
P.S. Here's the text of one of the archived messages:

Whenever the slide show runs from my pictures out of iphoto on my screen saver, other pictures appear occasionally on top of my pictures. They are usually other country flags or weird shapes with jagged edges. Any idea how to keep this from happening or where these other pictures are coming from? Thanks.
    Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

The problem is not with the screensaver but rather that the Pictures folder insists on having the iChat flags alias inside it. Since the screensaver recognizes aliases I have moved all my photos out of the "Pictures" folder and into another folder called "Pictures not screensaver". This is because the screensaver will show ALL pictures in the Pictures folder regardless of how embarassing they are. That leaves the Pictures folder for just aliases to pictures or folders of pictures. This allows me to control exactly what pictures are shown on the screensaver. It is an area of OSX that needs some improvement.
Regarding the superimposed images, that is normal. Those iChat icons are transparent, while JPGs are not transparent. Screensaver piles newer pictures on top of older pictures. If it piles transparent images such an GIF or PNG on top of previous pictures they may be transparent and cause an alarming effect.
I have imagined this feature could be used in some cool way but have never seen anyone do it. For example, nice JPG backgrounds with semi-transparent PNGs on top with zooming animals. I suspect Apple will introduce such a screensaver in 10.5.

  • Is it possible to set screen saver preferences?

    Friends,
My screensaver has what I hope is a fixable quirk.  I have directed it to use pictures from my Aperture library for the screensaver, and it displays a slidewhow with the Ken Burns affect.  For some of the images the screen saver zooms into the middle of the image, and shows very little of the image.  For others, it shows the image normally.  Is there anything that can be done to alter or correct how the screensaver displays the images?
    Thanks!
    Steve

When you set up the screen saver in the System Preferences -> Desktop & Screen Saver, click the "Options" button. Here you can set five parameters and decide to keep the slides centered or to allow "back and forth" movement.

  • Iphoto 08 and screen saver

I use my iPhoto library to run randomly as my screen saver. This has worked fine until I updated to iphoto 08 and now some of my photos are blurry on the screen saver. They are fine in iPhoto. Anyone know how to fix this.

It appears that iPhoto 8 now stores a low-ish resolution thumbnail of every (?) image -- I think your screensaver was grabbing those instead of the original-resolution images.
These appear to be scaled-down so that the largest dimension is 360 pixels, which will certainly look godawful as a full-screen screen saver. I'm guessing that these exist so that iPhoto 8's Events view has a known image resolution to quickly access when you drag over to get image previews.
The images are in the "Data" folder, inside the iPhoto library package that gets created when you convert your old iPhoto 7 library folder.
I managed to get what I think should be your old functionality by doing the following (not quite as elegant, but functional...):
    • Make a folder somewhere. e.g. "iPhoto slideshow folder"
    • Open the iPhoto library package by right-clicking on it and selecting Show Package Contents
    • Make aliases of the "Modified" and "Originals" folders
    • Put the aliases in your new "iPhoto slideshow folder"
    • Then open up System Preferences and point the screen saver to this new folder.
It should resolve the aliases to find your normal images, without seeing the Data folder that has all the low-res images in it.
Ideally, the screen saver would have a setting to reject images below e.g. a certain resolution, but this should be a servicable workaround.
    Hope this helps!

  • Screen saver from folder?

In OS 10.8.5 is it possible to have the screen saver show pictures from a folder on the desktop?
    I can't see that option.
You can do this with the desktop picture but thats not what I want.

When I go to the Screensaver tab in the "Desktop & Screensaver" pane of System Preferences, I can select a theme, i.e. Classic, and then in the right half of the window, there's a drop-down menu for "source."
Click "Choose Folder" and then select the folder you want.

  • Screen saver won't stay on photo library

Boy, lots of unanswered questions with the new OS 10.10.  I posted this question yesterday, got no responses, and now it is so far back I didn't get to it after adding More Pages over ten times - still at 4 hours ago.  I don't think anyone will ever see it again.
I have selected a folder from iPhoto to use for a screen saver - recent pictures.  It loads the pictures but the next time the computer goes to screen saver it use the National Geographic pictures.  Now they are beautiful but I want to see pictures of my grand kids! What am I doing wrong or what is Yosemite doing wrong?  This is very frustrating!

This seems to be working, at least for the short term, but it seems strange to be required to keep the system preferences open all of the time.  I am going to try there suggestion below from Linc Davis and see what happens.

  • Black Screen Saver & Fan Noises

My computer just yesterday started making loud fan noises. I've done some research on the computer and it seems to be quite a common problem with iMac, however, I have been unable to find solutions. It started after I watched a DVD on my computer and had to change the sleep and screen saver settings (or at least that's the trend I noticed). After the movie was over I shut down my computer and when I restarted it the next day, boom, loud fan. I was wondering if it had anything to do with the screen saver settings because that's all I could think of. Before, I had the black blank screen saver and now I can't find it on my computer. I don't want a screen saver with pictures, just the blank one--what it did before going to sleep. I've restored the energy saving settings.
Any ideas? I thought the DVD issues was related perhaps.
The fan (or what ever it is) noise is driving me crazy! As soon as the computer goes to sleep, the fan noise stops.

Yeah, I think that is this one...

Boot off your Install Disk while holding down the *d key*, (not c key), then run the extended Apple Hardware Test. Some disks require you to use the Option key at bootup to select AHT. Some models have a separate AHT CD.
Also, under the Apple icon at top left>About this Mac>More info...>Hardware>Serial-ATA, does it say "S.M.A.R.T. status: Verified"?

  • Desktop and Screen Saver in System Prefs hangs. Why?

I just migrated everything over perfectly from my old intel mac to my new one. when i go to "desktop and screen saver" in the system preferences and try to choose a folder of images for screen saver, sys prefs hangs and i have to force quit. i am trying to choose the same folder i used in my old mac but i have the same problem when trying to chose any folder. is there some "desktop and screen saver" file that could be corrupted that I need to delete? if not, why is it hanging?

I too am having the same problem as the original poster. I tried what was suggested as far as creating a new admin. account and still have the same problem with no iPhoto library showing up and the desktop/screensaver preferences hanging up and finally forcing a quit to close it.
I migrated everything from my old computer to this new one including the system software. It was suggested by someone else to reinstall the system software which I have done also with no change in the problem. (something to do with shared libraries I think????)
    Any more ideas?

  • MobileMe and RSS screen saver missing in Snow Leopard!

In Leopard, in Desktop & Screen Saver, under Pictures, There is a screen saver called MobileMe and RSS, which allowed you to subscribe to picture RSS feeds and would display them as a slideshow when the screen saver activated.
I found that screen saver option is no longer available in Snow Leopard. I thought I would just go to a Leopard machine and copy the screen saver file to Snow Leopard, but its not in the screen saver folder (Drive -> System -> Library -> Screen Savers).
Why did apple remove this functionality? Is there anyway to get it back?

Sorry, I get it now. My issue was similar but not the same as yours. I have never subscribed to picture-only RSS feeds so I guess I can't address your issue. As I said, I was trying to have other peoples' MM galleries show up in the list of screen savers, which I was finally able to do using my instructions (you don't need to belong to MobileMe to do this by the way, all you need is the username of a friend who does subscribe and has set up a MM gallery - for example, my username is "rbarline" in case you want to check out my "public slide show" gallery as a screen saver ... :~)
Now I am curious about picture-only RSS feeds and would like to try one as a screen saver. Can you send me a feed URL to try? Maybe there is a way after all?

  • Chinese Symbols over my iPhoto on screen saver

My screen saver is pictures that I have in my iPhoto. and all of the pictures that I have on iPhoto are fine. HOWEVER, When it goes to screen saver some of the pictures are covered with this odd chinese picture thing. A bunch of different odd digital looking pictures. Does anyone else have this? and what is it, and how do I get rid of it?

    Hi.
I have a very similar problem. It started around July 2010 possibly after I copied some photos from a relatives camera. I am wondering if some sort of virus was copied over. ( Could be a coincedence tho'.)
I am not currently running iphotos as I have lost the disc after a Hard disk re-format!
    Good Luck!

  • Screen saver images over pictures

I have a couple of questions. When my Mac goes to the screen saver mode it uses random photo's from iPhoto. Occasionally some design, maybe a smiley face, a heart, or something, will be over top of the photo. Any idea's as to how to get rid of these?
My other question is about the same screen saver mode. I have photos coming up that I have deleted from my albums but they still appear on the screen saver.
    Thanks for any help,
    Jim

I am having the same problem. So far, the superimposed flags and faces are endless.
I sure do hope there is a solution. This is not a new problem to the imac. In a google search, someone was describing this same thing a couple of years ago. Any help is appreciated!

  • Why does iPhoto Screen Saver say "The selected source contains no pictures"?

After upgrading to Lion, I noticed that I can no longer use iPhoto albums as a screen saver. At first when loading the Screen Saver preference page, the iPhoto Screen Saver doesn't show up at all. After a bit, I can see "iPhoto" as an option, but if I select it I see a message in the preview pane that says "The selected source contains no photos. Please choose a new source that contains pictures or add images to the source." There are of course plenty of images in iPhoto already. Any ideas?

I have had some similar problems.   I think mine were cause by "interference" from my Apple TV.   By any chance do  you have an Apple TV?    I first notice the problem after viewing photos on my Apple TV as a screen show.   When I was finished I just changed my TV back to the cable box, but did not do anything to the Apple TV.  When I had the problem I went back to the Apple and switched it to something other than photos.   Now my sceen saver shows photos again.    I am guessing that the Apple TV some how locks the file such that the screen save can not get to it.
    Good luck.

  • Screen Saver "The selected folder contains no pictures"

    Hello,
I recently had my HD replaced on my IBook after thermal damage took out the old one, and the good Apple Store folks recovered and replaces the date from the old fwinky drive.
However, tweaking the configuration back into place, I noticed that most of the "Slideshow" style screensavers are now broken, with the following as patt of the error message:
"The selected folder contains no pictures"
Where the HECK are the insalled screensaver images stored? I would bring them over from the G4 tower, if I knew where to find them... Is there a way to reconnect the screensavers to the images if they are still on the drive?
I was able to find the screensaver files in:
    System/Library/Screen Savers ...
But no sign of any images. Clicking or opening the file just launches the "Desktop & Screen Saver" preferences panel.
    Mildly Baffled.
    Kurt

That appears to work. The pictures are indeed actually there. It seems the slide show screensaver functionality is somehow damaged.
Testing the screensaver on a new folder with some of my one images in it only shows a black screen. The problem apparently lies elsewhere.

  • Pictures screen saver.  My "best" photos look granular. Why?

Hello. I have a number of photos saved on my mac. Some were taken years ago with a cheap digital camera. Some were scanned in recently using a scanner. Others were taken using a more expensive, good quality, slr camera. I refer to the slr pictures as my "best" pictures for this particular question.
When I view these photos through iphoto they are excellent. When the play through the atv as a screen saver, they look excellent. Yet, if I select these photos to play as the screen saver "one at a time" type of mode (i.e. not the collage mode), the "best" pictures look granular or blurry. While the old photos all look great.
I've played around with the options in the screen saver and it didn't do any good. Just cropped or otherwise move the photos around and they didn't look any better.
What am I missing here that would cause these otherwise great pictures to look bad in the screen saver on the mac?
    Thanks.

Just curious to know how your pictures look in Picture Viewer? Select actual size and if they come close to filling your screen and look fine I don't know why they wouldn't look ok in Screensaver. If they show in Picture viewer as being small this might be one of the cases where the dimensions are actually small, say 4 by 5, but the resolution is high, say 120 to 300. I think that it is this type of picture that doesn't scale well at all. They would look ok on a tv but why they would look good in iPhoto I don't know.
