BO Publication - PDF format doesn't show Chinese/Japanese language characte

Hi All,
When I try to Publish a report to PDF the Chinese/Japanese language characters disappear. Same report when published as Excel shows all the language characters.
Any suggestions to resolve the issue?

I am not expert in these, but please check out the following things and see whether it would solve your issue. (All these changes can be easily rolled back in case I'm wrong :). So make note of what you do)
As per your httpd.conf, you have chosen an automatic configuration of Apache by OWCI installer itself. What it does is create an imageserver.conf file in a separate directory and these settings will be included in your httpd.conf as you can see in the first line: Include "C:/bea/alui/plumtreeconf/".
If you check the imageserver.conf in that location, you would find a line like: Alias /imageserver/ "C:/bea/alui/ptimages/imageserver/". This aliases the original path "C:/bea/alui/ptimages/imageserver/" to /imageserver"
To confirm whether this is done right, check the following:
1. Acces 'http://<server ip / server name / localhost >/' from your browser
This should display the Apache home page (as per your httpd.conf, it uses the default port 80; so no port number required)
2. Access 'http://<server ip>/imageserver/' from your browser
This should display the directory structure (if its not disabled) inside your 'C:/bea/alui/ptimages/imageserver/' folder. Also confirm that all the subfolders are accessible.
3. If all the above is right, it means that your imageserver settings are right. Please check your portalconfig.xml for the correct settings: For example, <setting name="HTTPPort"> should be 7001 in your case. If its something else, change it and restart Weblogic for the settings to take effect.

Reports in PDF format does not show up on solaris box

Hi,
I am trying to generate a report in pdf format.
This shows up a blank page.
But i could see that the cache file is generated for the report.
This works fine in Win 2000.
I have fixed the IE adobe issue.
IS there anything special i need to do while
generating this output.
Your help will be highly appreciated.

I did all the config as mentioned on adobe site. It seems to me the dataset problem.
I am running 2 reports one for which i have more data and for the other less data.
The one with more data comes up properly on browser. But the one with less data is showing me blank page.

Safari doesn't show Chinese characters in a specific site?

Hi all,
I've just found a weird thing that Safari doesn't show Chinese character in this site.

It works in Firefox (Mac and win), Chrome (mac and win), IE 6-9, Safari for Mac, but not Safari on Windows.
However, when I browse other websites like Yahoo hong kong and Apple HK. There is no problem.

My best guess is that the site may uses some fonts (CSS3 @font-face?) that safari did not support.
Anyone knows what happened?

That's a bit odd ... I'm getting the opposite effect at the moment on my XP SP3. I'm not seeing the text in IE 8 (I don't think I've got the International character sets installed for my XP Pro), but they show fine in my Safari 5.0.2.

PDF attachment doesn't show in opened e-mail to open it. Adobe reader is installed on my iPad.

You don't need any third party app at all in order to view a supported file in the mail app. It should be viewable even without Adobe Reader.
You do see a paper clip icon to indicate that there is an attachment but you don't see the opened PDF or the PDF icon in the body of the email? Did you swipe all the way down to the bottom of the screen? Is this just happening in one email or does it happen everywhere in the mail app?
Quit the mail app completely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the mail app icon. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Launch mail again and see if the PDF opens or appears. If it doesn't, close mail again and restart the iPad and then try again.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

While in PDF format it is showing some starting fields only

I created sample report and build Layout template in word doc.
I uploded RTF template into Report & given output format in Exel&Pdf.
When i view the output for Exel format is OK
While in PDF format it is showing some starting fields only
(I can move downword direction but i can't to move Right direction ie X-axis)
How can i solve this prob.

Make sure you are designing the template while in the Print Layout, not Web Layout (View menu, or switches in the bottom left hand side of the Word window). In the web layout (which Excel uses) the page can expand to the right, while in the print layour (which PDF uses) only those fields will be seen that fit into physical page size.

When calling report from forms, only html format report can show chinese characters

To all experts,
When I run report by calling run_report_object() in forms, only html format can show chinese characters. If I choose pdf format, garbage characters were shown instead of chinese characters. My settings on server are as follows:
NLS_LANG=TRADITIONAL CHINESE_HONG KONG.UTF8
FORMS60_REPFORMAT=PDF
Do you know why? I hope to print report in PDF format as PDF turned out to be more regular in format. Is there any additional settings required?
May experts here broaden my mind?

You have two different ways of generating Japanese PDF files from Reoprts. One is font aliasing and the other is font subsetting.
<font aliasing>
You will need to have the following entries in uiprint.txt (example).
[ PDF ]
.....JA16SJIS = "KozMinPro-Regular-Acro"
"MS UI Gothic".....JA16SJIS = "KozMinPro-Regular-Acro"
You may need to download and install Japanese Font Pack from Adobe's web site (if your Acrobat is non-Japanese version).
<font subsetting>
You will need to add C:\WINNT\Fonts (or wherever your TTF/TTC fonts are installed) to your REPORTS_PATH.
You will also need to have the following entries in uiprint.txt (example).
[ PDF:Subset ]
"Andale Duospace WT J" = "Aduoj.ttf"
"Albany WT J"="AlbanWTJ.ttf"
"MS UI Gothic" = "msgothic.ttc"

PDF option doesn't show up on iBooks on my iPAD

I upgraded to the latest version of iBooks once again and although it shows screenshots of an ipad with Ibooks and PDFs in iBooks, it doesn't every show up on my ipad.
Is something wrong with my iPad/software/etc? Or am I missing something here?

Give it a pdf and those options should appear. Just drop one into the itunes library and then sync the ipad.

I am trying to make space for iOS 7 and discovered that I have over a gig of a pdf file apparently on my iphone.
The file shows up ONLY in the "On this iPhone" category under Books when the phone is plugged in. It does not show up in the Books sections or iTunes or in iBooks on the phone. It will not allow me to delete it. Help!

You can't without restoring the phone as new.

Excel spreadsheet export doesn't show chinese characters properly

Hi all.
I've created the excel export option following the steps in Bex's book, and it's working fine, but I'm not able to export results in UTF8. I'm facing problems when the dDoctitle for some documents is in chinese.
So far, I've tried adding the charset <$setContentType("text/csv; *charset=UTF-8*")$>, but it doesn't seem to work. I've also tried setting different content types and charsets without success.
Any idea?

Yes, I have it and I can see other chinese websites. Moreover, in Content Server, I see correctly (in chinese) the dDoctitle field i'm trying to export. In fact I've written some titles in chinese just to test it. It's in the csv file where I see the strange characters.

PDF document doesn't show personal images

Hi all guys!
I'm trying to add some fields in my PDF document headers connected to my dashboard pages.
I usaully follow these steps:
Dashboard Page--> Page options --> PDF and Print Control Properties --> Include Header: Edit
Well, if i add some custom fileds (eg: data, time, author, custome images) I got no problems.
I got some issues when i try to insert an image of mine.
The code for the filed is the following:
@{fmap:meters/alert/lg/MyImage.png}
I've added MyImage file to the same directory where i found the custom images, but, even after having restarted all the services, I can't see my image in the PDF document produced by Printer Friendly.
I can see my image only in the preview box where you can choose which one you want to add in the field.
Does the image need a specific format or dimension limits to be shown ?

Thanks for the reply.
My image has always been in those 2 directories you wrote.
But, the first time I had this issue, I tried to scan my HDD just to find the custom images that i see in the PDF document.
Example: "01_green_alert.gif" is in this directory:
{OracleBI}\web\app\res\s_oracle10\meters\alert\lg
So I've tried to add my personal image file in this folder, but the only result I got is that I can see my image in the preview box where I can choose which image I want to add.

Firefox preview for pdf files doesn't show certain Cyrillic scripts.

Since pdf preview support was added in Firefox I can't find a solution for the missing Cyrillic letters in the preview of the pdfs which the software in my company generates.
Other pdf software/browsers with preview don't have issues with the Cyrillic script regardless of localization and OS as the fonts are embedded in the pdf.
Can you please help with finding some documentation to use as a reference point for finding the solution for this issue?

In order to change the default reader for PDF files (to not open PDF files with Firefox's internal PDF reader), follow these steps:
#Go to ''Tools'' > ''Options'' (or ''Firefox'' > ''Options'').
#In the Options window, select the ''Applications'' tab.
#In the ''Search'' field, type ''PDF''. You should find ''Portable Document Format (PDF)''.
#On the right handside you should find an ''Action'' column. Use that to select your favorite PDF reader. In order to view PDF files in Firefox, choose ''Preview in Firefox''.

Converting Word to PDF: text doesn't show on top of image

I have a word 2013 document with text on top of an image. When I convert to PDF with Acrobat Standard XI the image covers the text.
Here is the page in Word:

Any help would be appreciated!

I have only used Acrobat Pro, not Standard. Does Standard have a Content Pane? If so, I would try selecting each content element on the page till I found the image, and drag it above the text elements in the content order.

Works fine on my machine. My only little point is that one of
your
directories has an apostrophe in it (pdf's), which may be
causing some
discrepency somewhere? Apart from that, try clearing your
cache.

PDF document doesn't show filled in text in Windows.

Hi I made a PDF document with fill-in fields in Acrobat Pro 9. When I fill-in that document, by using Acrobat Reader, I can see the text on my Mac, then I send it as a PDF to someone else, then they can't see what I typed in the fill-in fields.
They did send it back because they thought is was an empty form, but when I look to the form my Mac mail I can see what I typed.?!?
Did I do something wrong with the making of the formfields?
I Noticed when I want to fill-in the form using Acrobat Pro, the moment I tab to another field, the former field is not visible anymore, but it is visible on my Mac when I open it in Acrobat Reader.
Any suggestions what the problem is?

This is typical when you use the Preview application on the Mac to fill-in and save a form. Are you sure this was not done? Preview should be avoided at all costs when working with PDF forms as it corrupts them in a number of ways.
