Book specifically for Mac using Photoshop Elements 4
Hello - I don't think this is the correct forum but I'm at a loss as to where else to put it. I purchased Photoshop Elements 4 a year ago and have yet to find a companion book that is specifically for a Mac. The books that claim to be for both are certainly not. Does anyone have a resource? I've checked Amazon and online resources with no luck. Thanks for feedback. Tami
Well, the editor is identical on both platforms, so it's mostly a question of substituting command for ctrl and option for alt and ignoring everything about the organizer.
You know, PSE 3 isn't that much different for macs (the big changes in PSE 4 were mostly in the windows organizer and the disabling of the ability of a lot of popular add-on tools), so you could go to your library and see if they have any PSE 3 books that cover both platforms. Most PSE 3 books did, since both platforms came out simultaneously back then.

My Adobe trial for Photoshop Elements 10 for the Mac was over and I wanted to buy the application. The screen message was "Your trial has expired...but the fun doesn't have to end! Buy now to continue using Photoshop Elements 10 without having to download or re-install. " and then the button "Buy Now". When I hit the Buy Now button I am put in a field to buy Photoshop Elements 13, with no way to change to Elements 10. I do not want to go through the hassle of reinstalling etc. In fairness, it's been over a month since making the decision to buy. Still, I consider this a nightmare. Any ideas on how to buy the app I've got withou having to purchase a whole new one? Thanks.
If worse comes to worse, will I need to uninstall the trial if I buy a new version? Can I use part of it lime download assistant?Adobe does not sell older versions of their software. If you wish to purchase an older version you will have to find and take your chances with a third party vendor.

I use photoshop elements version 11. I just bought a nikon d750. Photoshop elements can't read/open the raw/NEF-file.
Does a raw converter exist for this camera and where can I find it ?

erwing97792269You need Adobe camera raw version 8.7. Unfortunately your software pre-dates the camera. ACR 8.7 is only compatible with PSE13. But it is possible to download and install the free DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)

I have a Nikon D600 and D800 and I shoot everything in Raw. I use Photoshop Elements 9 for processing but I have been unable to convert any RAW files to open in PSE. Says unable to parse the file. What does this mean and how do I fix it?
Since pse 9 can only use up to camera raw 6.5 and the d600 needs at least 7.3 and the d800 needs at least 6.7, you can use the
8.6 adobe dng converter to convert those files to dng copies, which then pse 9 should open.

Can I use Photoshop Elements images to illustrate a book I plan to sell?
If I were to use Photoshop Elements images, background designs etc and cut and paste, copy and use in collages to illustrate a book I plan to sell, am I breaking copyright laws?
Yes, you can do this. Adobe is concerned about people who reverse engineer the programs, not about people who use them as intended. Of course, for any additional styles, shapes, etc, it would depend on the developer's license terms. But there is no restriction on using PSE to create things to sell, no more than on PS.

I'm looking for software to help me in the Fashion Design Industry. I want to use it for my sketches. I am a beginner when it comes to Fashion Design and have no experience using Photoshop software. I had read somewhere that Photoshop Elements is a less expensive version of Photoshop. I read that it does 90% of what Photoshop does without the higher end pre -press printing capabilities. I also read that there is a book that will help you with the other 10% to achieve the full Photoshop capabilities.
1a. I would like to know is anyone using Photoshop Elements for Fashion Design?
1b. If yes, please explain in details what exactly are you using it for?
2a. Is there more than one version of Photoshop Elements?
2b. If so, what version do you recommend?
3. How easy is it to use?
4. Do you know of any books you can recommend that will help me with using the software for fashion design?
5. If you don't feel Photoshop Elements is the best choice, then what other software would you recommend?
ThanksI've never used PSE for fashion design, but there is only one flavor of elements, not a variety of different versions. I would wonder about using it for this because it could make a lot of difference if you need to create output in CMYK form (for print) or to softproof (neither of which is available in PSE). You also can't create composite layers in Elements.
I like Elements a lot, but I would not say it's 90% of Photoshop, more like 70% and I would expect that people would use Illustrator rather than PS for most things to do with creating illustrations. Also, there is no book that can make PSE into PS, although you can extend what it can do, but Adobe has deliberately crippled certain features in PSE.
I would say we need to know what you need a program to do to be able to give you any useful kind of advice. If you need to be able to draw vectors and paths, PSE is not a good choice. If you just need to sketch, it's fine. -
I am using Photoshop Elements 11. Do all .jpg formatted file have to be retangular in shape? I want to create an oval .jpg picture to insert into a book. Haven't been able to do so. It would work if I could make the area outside the oval completely transparent. Can anyone help me here?
JPG does not support transparency, so even if you create an oval with transparent background, the saved JPG will have white background. Instead, save it as a PNG, TIFF, or GIF which preserve the transparency.
Here is one of many ways to create your oval:
Create a new file the approximate size of the oval. Add the oval with the Custom Shape Ellipse tool, and simplify the shape layer.
In the Layers Palette, Ctrl-click the oval to select it and copy the selection to the clipboard (Edit > Copy).
Then do File > New from Clipboard. This creates the oval with transparent background cropped to the oval size.
Then save it as one of the file types that support transparency (and also supported by the application where you are sending the picture to).
Note: Is is not even necessary to do step 2. That is only if some reason you want the oval to be tightly cropped. It is sufficient to delete the Background layer in step 1 (or turn off its visibility) and save the file. The oval will appear correctly in the book with either version. -
I got iPhoto '11, version 9.2.3 and want to edit photos using Photoshop elements 10. I have put P'shop 10 as the preferred editor... but when I click on the photo in iPhoto the Adobe p'shop 10 program opens BUT the picture does not open for editing. What the heck... I did fine with the old iPhoto and "Shop elements 6... .

For that Nikon model you need ACR 8.3 that means CS6 or CC. Or you can download the DNG converter convert your Nikon RAW files to Adobe RAW files. And then process the Adobe RAW files with CS5 ACR version 6.7

When I have resized and saved an image in Photoshop (CS, version 8.0 for Mac) using image size, why is it so large when I open it in preview or another image viewer? Has it actually saved according to the size I specified?
You want to view the image at the Print Size, which represents the size that shows in the Image>Resize Dialog.
View>Print Size
Since screen resolution is almost always lower that the print resolution (somewhere between 72 and 96 usually), images will always look bigger on the screen, unless you view them at print size.
(apple Retina displays have a much higher resolution than normal screens, closer to the average print size resolution)
