Creating Disk Image for Solaris 8 Admin Pack
Hi,
When I download the zip files "Software CD Image" for Solaris 8 Admin Pack / Solstice AdminSuite 3.0 and "Documentation CD Image", I get a zip file containing the contents of an installation disk (ie files and directories) rather than ISO files for creating a disk.
lf I then burn these to a CD (in either UDF or 9660 format) and try to install, it fails for various reasons, not least of which is the fact that the top level installation file does not have X permission. I know that I could copy these files to the Sun, change permission and run from there, but for various reasons I also need to be able to install from CD.
Does anyone know either how to create a CD with the correct format / file permissions / etc, or alternatively where the correct ISO's can be retrieved?
Thanks in advance.Partition before installing, then try it. Alternatively, use something like Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! to put a bootable backup/clone onto the partition. That gives you something that you can immediately verify. A disk image requires restoring before you can be assured that it's viable. I've beta-tested Panther through Snow Leopard and have never made a disk image, only clones. Finally, creating the disk image takes much more time to create than does the clone. Just my 2¢. BTW, the image is useless unless you can successfully restore it. I have no idea why it's not working for you.

Pdf format book for OCP 10 Admin 2 study guide.
Is there any group or link from where i can download OCP 10 Admin 2 study guide by Doug stuns/Tim Buterbaugh and Bob bryla?
Are you talking about a free link? I would certainly hope not-- such a link would almost certainly be to a pirated copy which would be both unethical and illegal.
Books24x7 and O'reilly's Safari are pay sites that provide online access to many technical books (Oracle Press also has a similar site). There is a good chance that one or both of these sites carry the book you're after.

How can i get the service book Anworm TCP for all Network
Hi every body BB community, I need the book Anworm TCP for all Network, because some body else saidme thath is posible recive smn/mmn and sed, using this service book.
Tanks...Gotta say thank you — again. Sorry the posts were spread out over more than one location. I'll check and see if Third Party Software is considered a "peripheral", maybe that would have been a better single thread choice?
Definitely news we can use and the reference link is appreciated.
OT ~ We keep becoming more and more aware of how easy it is to lose one's bearings when it comes to keeping up with info tech. My husband and I are both official members of the geezer set and have been out of the work force for some years. You really do pick up so much just by being in the environment where people are using things to get work done. A couple of old MP3 players, PPC G5, and a vintage Inspiron 3800 that someone didn't want any more is about it. No cell phone, no iPod, no iPad, no home wireless network, no streaming media. Fixed income. So we do with what we can as long as we can. If we could get by without that Intel processor, we'd probably make do with what we've got. On the other hand, we've really wanted a notebook for a very long time and have to admit that needing to upgrade to accomodate my husband's project is pretty much just the "reason" we need. I really mean it when I say that we are beyond appreciative that users take the time to share info and patiently educate those of us who fall into the "slow tech" category. -
Some steps for configuring Network are skipped in installation Solaris 10
Hi everybody !!!
I'm a newbie in Solaris 10. I had some problems in installation Solaris 10:
I downloaded installation packet for x64/x86 (DVD) on site Sun.I want to install Solaris 10 on my PC AMD 2500+.I connect to internet through a LAN.
1)In process installation, some steps for configuring Network ( from 5 to 15 in Solaris 10 installation guide) were skipped automatically. It has been directly moved to 16-th step(setup Time and region). Then i tried to finish installing it. But in working with it, i recognized that Network card had been not found( i use NVIDIA nForce MCP Networking Adapter). I typed some command in console shell :
$netstat -in
loo...........
and received only one row like above.
i have tried some times , but not succeeded
2)Port USB is also not working
Please help me. Thanks a lot !!!hi Vantuan,
guess I just posted reply to your other post...
also check Sun hardware compatibility list for your network card here:

Book recommendation for Content Networking?
Hi,
Is there any books outhere on cisco CSS, GSS for a good readup?
I know there's a whole lot of docs fr univercd, but was wondering if there are actually books on these products?
Thanks.Thank you for your book recommendation. This sounds like an excellent book for learning Flash. From the description on Amazon, the emphasis of this book is on learning Flash with just a little information about ActionScript 3. Perhaps there is enough ActionScript 3 information in this book to get a good foundation with ActionScript, to learn the terminology and syntax?

Solaris Networking - The Magic Revealed
Just in case you missed this...
Sunay has been in India for the past few weeks and has actually been working! He's just finished the treatise on Solaris Networking which will become a new section of the Solaris Internals book.
In his blog, Sunay has included excerpts to give us a preview of what's to come!
Check out his blog entry: Solaris Networking - The Magic Revealed at:

Best,
- CarolHello.
I was porting another network driver to Solaris and I used GLD, too.
I do not know which GLD version I was using. (I think not v3; module name is /kernel/misc/gld, not /kernel/misc/mac.)
The documentation I used was "Writing Device Drivers" in the "Solaris 10" section on Sun's documentation site.
All include files were present on Solaris 9/Sparc and OpenSolaris/x86 (I do not have Solaris 10 installed so I cannot tell you if the include files are present.)

How to connect my mac book pro to network printer Canon IR 2010f?
I'm desperate to know how to connect my Mac book Pro to network printer Canon IR 2010f. This printer has an independent system, therefore, no need a PC to be on, in order to print. But this printer is a network printer. Help me please.
The Canon UFR2 v2.20 driver for Mac OS X does not list the iR2010F as a supported model. The same is so for the Canon PS driver so I therefore believe this model is PCL5e only.
What you should do is open Safari and type the IP address of the iR2010F. This will connect to the internal web page of the copier and from the provided pages you should be able to see what printer languages are supported.
If it only lists PCL then you will be able to print to this copier using the Generic PCL driver included with 10.6.
So if you open Print & Fax, click + to add and then select IP > LPD for the protocol you can then enter the IP address of the iR2010F and leave the queue name blank. For the name you can change that to iR1020F and for the Print Using, select Generic PCL Laser Printer.
One note with regards to this driver. It is defaulted to 300dpi so you will need to open the print dialog when you do print and change the resolution to 600dpi to get better print quality. -
Hi All,
We have recently deployed OpsMgr 2012 R2 inparallel to our legacy 2007 environment.
For network device monitoring in the 2007 environment we used the xSNMP Management Pack on top-of the native capabilities.
On of the positive aspects of the 2007 set-up was that we were able to leverage the xSNMP Management Packs ability to expose the interface alias/description which our Network admins populate to identify the connection/purpose of an interface within the SMS
Channel format.
Basically, the Network Admins would give me a list of critical interfaces and using the combination of Path and Alias/Description I would be able to confidently enable interface monitoring and alerting for those interfaces.
In 2012, however, all that has been changed. Now, interfaces are identified by an Interface Name value that is not really meaningful or relevant to the way our Network Admins work. Wjat I also find problematic is the way that interfaces seem
to have been divorced from the the source device in such a way that the default email alert format doesn't even include the Path (source device) on which the interface generating the alert is associated with. This is even the case when trying to create
a custom monitored interfaces State view in that the Path column is populated by the MAC address rather than with the host device that the interface is on which is what really matters. Who deals in MAC addresses?
What we require is a way to expose the host device and Interface Description and Alias values as part of an SMS/email alert as that is crucial information that an on-call engineer being woken-up at 2:00 AM needs to know rather than scratching
their head with some guff about IF-20 without even the parent device of that interface given so that they can at least know what device to log-on to manually try and identify which interface connection/service is down even though they should not have
to do that.
I have already tried to customize the SMS Channel format from its default format to the following:
State: $Data[Default='Not Present']/Context/DataItem/ResolutionStateName$ $Data/Context/DataItem/ManagedEntityFullName$ $Data/Context/DataItem/AlertName$
using the list of alert parameters from Kevin Holman's blog but even with the $Data/Context/DataItem/ManagedEntityFullName parameter the information is not satisfactory.
For all the improvement in SNMP and network monitoring it seems that something that was actually good and useful in 2007 has now been lost because of the way interfaces/ports have been divorced from the parent Managed Network Node device.
Can anyone advise how I might be able to get sensible interface alerts in my email and SMS notifications that provide the host router/switch Display Name, and the Interface Description and Alias of the Interface?
Points given to all considered replies.
Kind Regards,
MichaelYeah, that's kind of a mess...
You can create a workaround to change the name similar like that:
http://www.vroege.biz/?p=746
But it needs some authoring knowledge and must run every time after a network discovery. Since this means a class property change it is a performance consuming workflow and should not run top often.

After this nothing happens for a really long time.
When starting the deployment I get in the beginning of kas.log two entries

but suddenly the second line disappears and the only message I get is the first entry. I need to break the deployment process and kill the processes manually.
When starting the application server I get two error messages:

Is someone familiar with this/these problem(s)?It seems you are deploying a very big application. Try to deploy this application with following command

It should work fine. It was a bug with iasdeploy command in iAS SP3 which had been fixed in iAS SP4.
