Boot Camp Beta has Expired...

And now I'm finding that I no longer need/want Windows on this MacBook Pro which is still running Tiger (10.4.11) and want the disk space back for the Mac OS (i.e., I'm making it a dedicated "Mac" machine). Can't run Boot Camp Beta because it says its "expired". Is there any other way to do this... repartition the drive such that it's all Mac again, or am I gonna have to get up to Snow Leopard?
Thanks.

The Beta (version 1.3 and 1.4) expired on October 26, 2007 when OSX Leopard became publicly avaiable.
Version 1.2 or earlier of the Beta expired on September 30, 2007

  • Boot Camp Beta has Expired, do I have to upgrade?

I have a Mac Pro which I have been running for about 3 years.  Recently, I have encountered a problem with my Windows XP partition and need to re-install it.  However, I discovered to my surprise that Boot Camp has "expired" and will no longer run.  I have not upgraded or changed my operating system since I originally installed Boot Camp, so I do not think there have been any changes that would have rendered it inoperable.  After a brief look at the threads on this site, it seems a different version of Boot Camp shipped with later versions of MacOS.  Is upgrading my OS the only option available for me at this point?  I realize that Apple doesn't want to continue supporting my old version forever, but I haven't made any changes, so it seems to me the old program should still function...

There is a forum for Boot Camp.
You don't mention but BC beta ended 12/31/2007 right after Leopard 10.5 came out.
So you are still on 10.4.x but you might really want to add that and other details.
The only source are drivers on OS X DVD, there are none you can download, and your option is pretty much the $29 SL 10.6.3 DVD to get them.

  • What difference does it make if you have boot camp beta and it has expired

I have an imac w/OS 10.4.11--when i purchased it several years ago i had it partitioned and had windows xp installed. when i purchased this several years ago, they were using boot camp beta to do this.
recently i found out that the boot camp beta expired. the problem is i don't see how it has affected my windows or my mac. i don't see any difference.
the only problem i have is that i can't access the internet from the windows xp--*is this something that upgrading my OS and using the full bootcamp would correct?*
if not, then why should i upgrade the OS to Leopard using the final version of boot camp--what will i be able to do that i can't do now _from the WINDOWS XP perspective?_ ( i assume there are advantages from the Mac perspective, but nothing i can see that i need there--i look at the internet, play games (not action games), and write documents).

    hi iatrosm,
Yes, i had internet access from both windows xp and from mac for about a year and a half, and then one day the windows access 'disappeared'
i had a microsoft certified technician (son of a friend who also works in the field) come and look at it.
we could only find that for whatever reason the modem was not receiving the signal any longer from windows. the windows showed that the modem was receiving it.
    That's indeed very odd.
naturally apple said it was a windows problem and microsoft said it was an apple problem.
my personal feeling is that it is a hardware problem--but the issue is receiving from windows.
the modem works fine from my mac side.
Is this a dial-up modem or part of DSL ?
And how is it connected (ethernet...) ?
Has it some sort of self-test feature or the possibility for a full reset ?
While hardware can break, it usually breaks completely, not OS-dependent.
Is the modem shown in the Device Manager of Windows (Control Panel - System - Hardware) ?
Any system updates you have installed in Windows prior to the failure of the modem ?
    Any Firewall settings changed ?

  • Can professional software and 3D graphics be used in Boot Camp Beta 1.3?

I am using professional equipment that normally operates on a Windows OS with software using .NET Framework 2.0, DirectX 9.0c.
    - If I am to use this software do you think it will work in Boot Camp Beta 1.3 using Windows XP Pro (2)?
    - The software has a 3D imaging feature hence the DirectX 9.0c so do you think this will also work?
    - Does Apple have a service where they can answer these questions other than this forum?
I am new to Apple and not at all computer literate so please keep this in mind when sending your replies. Really apprecaite any help that you can provide.

Running Windows on a Mac via Apple's Boot Camp is absolutely no different than running it on any other PC, as Macs are PCs. So if it works on your current PC, it will work on you Mac.
Further questions regarding Boot Camp should be posted in the Book Camp discussions:

  • Boot Camp Beta for Tiger users

    Hey there
My dad owns a macbook 13" that is around 2 years now and at that time the included os was Tiger. He wants to run windows on his mac beside Tiger, and he don't want to upgrade it to leopard. The thing is that i cannot download Boot Camp Beta any longer. What can i do, can i still finde it somwhere please help, this is so important for him.

    Yes.
You would need to get a hold of the Leopard Installatin Disk. Extract the Boot Camp application from its utilities folder onto to your Tiger running Mac. Run the boot camp application under Tiger and partition the drive. Install Windows. As soon as Windows is installed then you would install the boot camp drivers version 2.0 from the Leopard disk once again on the windows side.

  • Can I run a backup when iOS beta has expired?

    Hi,
I'm traveling overseas and have been unable to install IOS 6 after the latest beta. I was trying to backup my phone, but the Internet here is bad, so it kept failing.
Is there a way to still do a backup before restoring to the release version of IOS6?
I don't have my own computer here to backup with iTunes, (I don't know if that's possible after the beta has expired?)
I just want to know if there's a way to backup still, how I can do it before trying to restore to the release version.
I will try see if I can install iTunes on one of the computers at the office I'm working at here.
I like to have an iCloud backup too though, because in my experience the iTunes backups aren't always so good, often I have to go reinstall apps after restoring.
    Thanks
    Steven

I just went ahead and did it (shift click on update - and choose restore file downloaded from dev page)
And it worked fine it seems.
No need to restore from backup
    Thanks for the help

    Good Luck

i must have been one of the last people to download the old version of bootcamp before they updated it the other day.
still if you down load the new one.
you can install it over the old.
then burn a new drivers disk.
boot windows & run driver disk, this will update all to latest drivers, had to do this part twice as windows hung on install at one point. but now got it working.

  • Boot camp beta 1.2 to Snow Leopard

I've finally got around to updating Tiger to Snow Leopard (prep for Lion), which went fine, but I can't seem to update Boot Camp beta 1.2. When I try to run the boot camp assistant setup from the Snow Leopard disc in XP I get a prompt telling me errors were encountered, and that I need to try again later. XP is working ok with the old drivers. I know I could remove XP (SP2) 32 bit entirely and start over, but I'd rather not. Any ideas? Thanks.
Mac Pro 1,1 late 2006 with dual Xeons

In the same relative boat as you TNBriggs however I've a MacPro 1,1 2.66 with Snow Leopard OSX 10.68 with old Tiger-made Boot Camp Beta running Windows Vista Ultimate with about 160Gb partition (not big enough for me now) on an 1.5Tb triple partitioned drive. Also have upgraded original Radeon X1900 to a Radeon 3870 and that's where the probs started. Because I can't use any of the retail Boot Camps, I can't access graphics drivers for Windows Vista nor XP for the 3870 from AMD's site. They're all looking for newer Boot Camp resources to run all the graphic card parts of Apple's code. So snookered.
I also had XP 32-bit in another Tiger partition before that but since uninstalled as it would never take XP SP3. Only way I could ever get either Windows to work was to install drivers manually off original Tiger OSX retail DVD. I also have a Leopard OSX retail DVD but never tried its Boot Camp.
I also only want Windows on it for the rival R/C software - PHOENIX R/C 2.5 (now 3.0) and Microsoft FSX sim.
Was wanting to upgrade to the proper new Boot Camp drivers on SL OSX retail DVD but of course it didn't work.
    THE PLAN
As HD prices have sky-rocketed since the Thailand floods wiped out all the Hard Drive factories last year, drives are becoming scarer by the day, and it'll be at least a year before any of the factories are up and running again, so 2012 will be HD ****.
Am going to back-up my other two partitions on the Windows drive and then wipe the whole lot and start again (but with a bigger 2Tb HD). Will then let SL's Boot Camp Assistant do its thing and just buy a 32-Bit Vista Home Premium OEM disk this time second-hand. As far as I'm aware the SL drivers will then work when it comes the time to put in the disk once it's all in (cos SL's OEM disk doesn't allow you to put in one driver at a time like Tiger etc. OEM disk did).
There is a way to get Windows 7 32-bit on a MacPro 1.1 on other forums, but I think leaving it at Vista will be better than nothing as it all worked greated in Vista Ultimate 64-Bit before I upgraded to Snow Leopard and swopped out the Radeon card to the later Radeon 3870. Phoenix R/C and FSX both ran sweetly. But again, the underpinnings of the whole thing had Boot Camp Beta (from Tiger's days) running it all thus I couldn't access the later updates from Apple, thus the reason to have to go through all this nonsense again.

  • LR4 Says beta has expired, except I purchased it

I purchased a box version of LR 4 and placed it on my i mac and my mac book air, its been working fine on both.  well now I am in hawaii for 10 days and I get the message that the beta has expired and the program is closing.  What can I do to make it work.
    Thanks
    Joe

    Jim
Thanks for answering back, but I installed it on my macbook air (it has no CD drive) using apples disc share feature.  So I know I used the original disc and key code.  Anyway I also have LR3 I can use that and then reinstall LR 4 when I get home.  But even though LR 4 has only been out for a short while LR 3 looks so antiquated.
I was wonering if there was any way to retrive my key code, so I could download LR 4 and use it this week.  If I cant I cant
    Thanks

  • Boot Camp Beta - Vista

Will Boot Camp Beta work with Windows Vista?
Also, when I try to partition my start-up drive (for the second time) It wont allow me, saying that I have to use my Mac OSX install disks to repair my disk or something? Is there a way around that?
Or a way I can download my start-up disks since they aren't currently with me?
    Thanks.

Also, when I try to partition my start-up drive (for the second time) It wont allow me, saying that I have to use my Mac OSX install disks to repair my disk or something? Is there a way around that?
No. You have to boot from the Installer DVD that came with the computer or an external drive that contains a bootable system (meaning one that will boot the MBP.)
Or a way I can download my start-up disks since they aren't currently with me?
No. You cannot download the discs that came with the computer.

  • How do I upgrade my "expired" boot camp beta?

I haven't used bootcamp... ever... since getting my mac 2-3 years ago. Recently, I've had cause to want make a windows xp partition, but when I install and start Boot Camp Assistant, it says Boot Camp 1.3 beta is expired, so I try to upgrade to 2.0 or 3.0, but the update is a windows file, making it quite difficult to upgrade.
How do I get Bootcamp on my computer again?

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
with OSX 10.5 Leopard BootCamp became a part of OSX.
So if you have OSX 10.5.8 installed on your Mac (as your signature states) then the BootCamp Assistant (in the Applications/Utilities folder in OSX) should be updated as well to the non-Beta version.
If you are still running OSX Tiger on your Mac, then you have to install/upgrade to OSX Leopard to use BootCamp.
Furthermore the OSX 10.5 Leopard Install DVD you have contains the 2.x version of the BootCamp Windows Driver package.
Once you have Windows installed with the BootCamp Assistant you should insert the DVD while in WIndows and the Driver Setup usually starts then automatically.
    Regards

  • Help, Boot camp beta, wont partition!

Hey guys, ive done tons of research, called apple, they directed me here. Ive already searched all over the internet.
So i have a mac book pro 10.4.10, with bootcamp beta installed.
I dont care whats on my computer, i just want one partition of mac osx leapord (i have tiger right now, but the leapord cd).
Ive put my date back before sept. 2007 to run boot camp manager, but whenever it says that the windows xp partition has been restored, and i restart the computer, it isnt gone!
I dont no what to do, should i mess with disk utility? Everything is grayed out on there.
    Help me out!
    THANks

I am having a problem with bootcamp and my partition and stuff I will say what it is now because i need help. I had the partition for a long itme and i want to resize it so i did what everyone does and set the date back to 2007-2008. even before i wanted to test something out and converted the stuff to from fat32 in windows to NTST.
Now when i go too boot camp to use the utilities such as superduper or CCC and disk utility so i copy the partiton i am confused how to do so. it keeps saying i have to reformat it to something else and disk utility is the only way how it is driving me nuts in all three. help please.

  • Upgrade Boot camp Beta 1.4 to 2.1??

How can I get a Boot Camp update 2.1 without having to buy Leopard OS?
I run Tiger on my MBP and apparently the Apple SU for BC2.1.exe does not run unless you have BC2.0, which is only available through Leopard OS.
I understand the marketing tactics, but please....

You are updating the BootCamp / Apple drivers and services.
Like any OS update/patch, plan for the worst, and hope for the best. And no, you aren't looking at a full reinstall. However, it is my opinion, that Leopard is more significant than some thought; that the partition tables have changed which now allows for resizing and creating partitions, does have some risks.
Some had minor glitches: Option key didn't show Windows; or it didn't show OS X (never both!), or one system didn't show in Startup Disk.
I'm big fan of "backup and reformat your drives with the new OS version of Apple utility" and don't do OS X update in place or even Archive Install. If you have Leopard working fine, you're over that hurdle.
Can't hurt to take a couple hours most to use WinClone so if needed, you can restore Windows back to how it was. I would, having just spent 2-3 days on Vista. Took a full day to upgrade Vista to SP1 plus all patches and updates, along with all the applications, and then a day of backup sets etc.
BootCamp. Assistant to partition. A control panel in Windows. A set of features. A set of services and drivers to support motherboard chipset and such.
Windows doesn't run inside or under BootCamp, though installing using BootCamp Assistant does add MBR support to allow XP to be installed - and that is likely the only place that matters.
Some people have had trouble upgrading BootCamp 2.0 to 2.1. Can say the same about most every OS X update, even Safari 3.2 (see MacFixit) has caused trouble for some, as can any security update, or 10.5.5 or any other update or upgrade or software (like iTunes 8).
What it is suppose to do and what can happen, and what preparations to take, and how well you keep and maintain your system and backups, is up to you. But I also think there was less planning and QA.
