Boot camp how to delete osx and merge partitions for  windows 7?

Im installing windows 7 through boot camp but without a dvd. Im using a installer from my university. I can only install it on a partition becouse i dont have the disc. It is done over the network. I have tried deleting the mac osx partition in windows and expanding the windows one, but osx is on the left of windows so it will not expand. Is there any way possible to delete osx and expand a windows partition to the entire drive? i know its not possible in windows but mabye some third party tool. I would preffer it to be free but anything is less than the 200 dollors i would have to spend getting another liscense.

Thanks again for replying, but I dont think you understand. I have boot camp assistant and all drivers installed. I will explain a little further why i can not do xy&z. This is my installations process.
1.  I go to campus and plug in my computer to the schools ethernet.
2. Login to the university's server and download the university's custom bootcamp installer.
3.My university's custom installer creates a partition on my mac and images that partition over the network with windows 7.
4. The whole time ive never seen a dvd, iso, or microsoft, apple anything. Its all done automatically and i have no option of downloading the image myself and doing it manually.
5. I create a account and password in windows and im stuck with windows on a partition on my mac.
So as you see above i dont have a dvd to pop in my computer or the ability to create one in order to delete the hdd and install windows only.
I need a way of deleting osx after windows is already installed. Becouse osx is to the left of windows in windows disc management this is(for all i can figure) impossible with just a repair disc, disc utility, and windows disc management. Im looking for a possible third part tool that can accompilsh this.
I even tried making a image in windows and re imaging with a repair disc, Low and behold, windows recreated the evil partition with a 190 unalocated gigabites of space to the left of windows. i wanted to pull my eyes out.

  • Does Boot Camp Ruin iPhoto on OSX Side of Partition?

I installed Windows 7 with Boot Camp v3.0.01 on my iMac (OSX 10.6.4, 24"). I experienced some difficulties downloading the drivers to connect my Apple wireless keyboard and mouse, but the problem was resolved using the updated Boot Camp v3.1. Windows 7 seems to be working fine.
Since the installation, the following features don't work in iPhoto ('08, v7.1.5):
1/ iPhoto preference under Events: select double-click [main] Event photo [to show all photos in Event] (I double-click on the main Event photo, no thumbnails appear, though scrubbing shows other photos under the Event).
2/ iPhoto preference under General: select double-click to magnify photos (once photos in an Event are shown as thumbnails, I double-click the thumbnail, no magnification occurs).
3/ iPhoto Help: select Search (no cursor blinks, I'm not able to type in a topic for the Help function).
4/ Shutting down iPhoto occasionally generates a crash message, even though the application successfully shuts down.
Has my iPhoto application been compromised by the Boot Camp partition? Or have I configured iPhoto in such a way that I lost functionality? Could this have something to do with my mouse configuration?
    Can anyone help me out?
    Thanks.

    MadisonP & Terrence:
Your help is greatly appreciated (as is your patience with my ineptitude).
Terrence: I tried your suggestion to plug in another mouse and try to see if my iPhoto (clicking) preferences were applied. I deleted com.apple.iPhoto.plist (Home > User > (my hard drive name) > Library > Caches), created a new iPhoto Library and then loaded up a number of test images. I then swapped a corded, USB mouse (Logitech M110 mouse, left/right buttons, scroll wheel) for my Mighty Mouse. To make sure, I reset all of my iPhoto preferences.
When I performed my test, the new Logitech mouse couldn't click on an Event photograph and produce thumbnails or all the photographs saved under the Event; or magnify photographs already showing under an Event (I arrived at these individual photographs by selecting "Photographs" which showed all photographs saved in the Library). The new mouse couldn't function under my pre-set preferences.
I don't believe my problem is related to the physical mouse that I'm using.
MadisonP: First, I admit I'm a bit of tech-challenged dork. I didn't look in the right file for the iPhoto plist initially (as you can see from the above paragraph, I finally looked in the correct files). Sorry.
As for your suggestion, I deleted com.Apple.iPhoto.plist several times - (a) deleted plist before accessing the new iPhoto Library that I created (see above), (b) deleted plist before accessing the original iPhoto Library, (c) deleted plist and restarted my iMac before accessing the new iPhoto Library and (d) deleted plist and restarted my iMac before accessing the original iPhoto Library. In all of these cases, I still couldn't click on an Event photograph and produce thumbnails or all the photographs saved under the Event; or magnify photographs already showing under an Event.
Although, I'm not tech-savvy, I'm inclined to think my problem is related to underlying driver for my Mighty Mouse. It must of been updated (intentionally or unintentionally) when I employed Boot Camp (and Boot Camp update v3.1) to partition my iMac for a Windows 7 installation. I say this because the functionality of my mouse changed after the installation of Windows 7.
I could have altered my Mighty Mouse driver unintentionally. After I installed Windows 7, I experienced connectivity issues with my Apple (aluminum) wireless keyboard and Mighty Mouse like many others. At one point, I did download the Boot Camp v3.1 update and saved the file on my OSX desktop for future use (at the time, I didn't realize that I had to save the downloaded file on the Windows side of the partition). I do not believe I ran this Windows update in the OSX environment (couldn't run anyway, right?). I deleted the file when I fixed the connectivity issue on the Windows side of the partition.
At the moment, I cannot even double-click on a file like, "Caches," to open it. To open the file, I have to "right-click" the file name to open a drop-down menu that includes the option to "Open" the file. I never had to do this before. The kicker is that I can left double-click on, say, the iPhoto icon, and the application will open and run. Needless to say, this is driving me nuts.
I know you're going to ask this: I checked my preferences for my Mighty Mouse under System Preferences.
My most recent attempt to fix the problem involved the download and installation of the SteerMouse application. The application was recommended by the staff on the Apple website (Downloads) to address certain functionality issues with my mouse. That application didn't help solve my mouse problem.
I'm tempted to bag the partition altogether and use my Time Capsule backup files to revert to my original iMac configuration.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Mac Challenged

  • How to create rescue and recovery partition for my thinkpad edge 11

    Hi,
I'm using thinkpad edge 11 with win 7 home Premium 32 bit.
Before, i tried to restore to factory setting, there is a drive partition of rescue and recovery in my thinkpad.
But, when I was trying to restore to factory setting, I missed the steps and made the drive partition of rescue and recovery formatted.
So, now, I don't have it again in my thinkpad.
Then, after that, appeared another drive partition  in my thinkpad with name S: Sytem, beside C: WIndow7 and D: Data.
So, I need the solution from you all as knowing more about thinkpad edge in this forum.
    1. How I remove the unkwon drive, S: System from my thinkpad?
    2. How I can create again the rescue and recovery partition on my thinkpad(wih Win 7 Home premium 32bit installer inside plus all the drivers)?
    Thanks...

    Hello mate,
To restore the Q: partition you have to use the Lenovo Recovery Discs. Hope you burn them before erasing the partition, otherwise you have to order them from Lenovo.

  • How large should I make the partition for Windows XP?

I am mainly using it for light gaming, the partition means how much of the hard drive is used for windows and windows-based programs/games it can use, right? What does Windows alone need, and what would you suggest? I have about 100GB total disk space left on my macbook.

This will in part depend on the copy of Windows XP you are using to install. If it is the absolute latest copy you could get it should come with SP3 built in, which will reduce the amount of space necessary. If it is Windows XP SP2 or earlier, you will need significantly more space. I suggest 4.5 - 5 gb just for XP alone, especially in the latter case. After that, find the maximum space that your programs can use on installation, add it all up, and add at least 10% to that. Next, take your amount of physical RAM and add at least that much to your previous total (this accounts for the pagefile). That would be your bare minimum to allow for Windows XP. As long as you don't expect to store significant amounts of data via Windows, that amount can be all you need.

  • Boot camp probl"back up disk and use disk util. to reform as single MAC OS.

The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved.
Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again.
I am trying to install win 7 32 bit but before i partition my mac osx an error message pops up with the above wording...I went to disk utility and it is already a single mac osx (journaled). any help would be great and much appreciated..thank you for viewing.

The error message must be the title of 100s of threads.
Do you know how to backup?
It can't move files, some are fixed, the free space has to also be unfragmented contiguous chunk at the end of the drive.
Disk Utility Restore tab (and Help menu).
and of course external backup drive. And backup is step #1. There is a PDF you can save or print from the Boot Camp Assistant.
If you only have TimeMachine for backup you might want to install OS X anyway on a small 30GB partition (shrink partition size) or use your OS X DVD.
From OS X DVD go to Utility and then Disk Utility. Restore to another drive and that should be then bootable.
Or pick up SuperDuper or Carbon Copy to clone-backup and use one of those.
iDefrag $$ may be able to optimize the free space.
But it is wiser to first insure any data and files are backed up before changing or installing another OS, and before changing partitions around.

  • Boot Camp -No Drivers in Win and VM Fusion not Connecting to Win Partition

    Hello,
I am a new Mac user, but I have used PCs for about 20 years. I am having trouble figuring out a couple of things. Below is a step by step list of what I have done so far and I'll end with a couple of questions.
I have three drives in my Mac Pro - 1-Mac OS, 2-Win OS, 3-empty, 4-Data (two partitions. I went to install Win XP through boot camp and had some problems. For the record, Boot Camp never provided a dialog box that said would you like to burn a CD/DVD of drivers for Windows. All I saw was a screen that said, for drivers please use the Leopard DVD.
    1. Ran Boot Camp and selected Drive Bay #2 where I wanted to install Windows. Boot Camp went through the typical stuff (NOTE: It did not ask me if I wanted to make a Drivers CD, which is very strange).
    2. I went through the Win XP install and got to the selection of the partition. This was a nightmare because I could not tell the drives apart. They were all 500gb and Seagates, however the drive in Bay #4 was partitioned in half so I did recognize this one. The only way to tell the drives apart were by their letters, which meant nothing since there was no relationship to the names that showed up in Leopard. I saw drives C: E: F: G:.
    3. I did not want to screw up the Mac OS so I canceled the install and shut down the computer. I did finally figure out how to get the disc out of the drive and get back into Leopard. Nothing was affected.
    4. I came up with a brilliant idea after reading the message boards that I might be able to disconnect all the drives except the one that I wanted Win XP installed on to it.
    5. I removed Drive Bay #1-Mac OS and left the Drive Bay #4-Partitioned Data Drive in the system. Since it was partitioned it could be recognized in the Setup.
    6. I put in the Win XP Pro SP2 CD and went to town installing the drives.
    7. I selected the C: drive and formatted the drive. Everything formatted just fine and I was able to start the Win XP install.
    8. After I got into Windows I installed the software that I needed to run. I realized that I can not activate any of it because I am missing WIFI drivers and I look at the other hardware and I see a lot of question marks. That was too be expected. I put in the Leoplard DVD discs and I could only get one of them to read, which was the one that had Boot Camp. I couldn't find any driver information. I put in the second CD and nothing would show up with that CD. Yikes.
    9. I finished installing software and made sure all the discs were out of the drives and rebooted with the OPTION key depressed. I selected Mac OS and booted up successfully.
    10. I picked up VMWare Fusion to utilize the Boot Camp partition and I started that installation. After it was done I ran the program. I was informed of an update and downloaded and installed it.
    11. I ran VMWare Fusion again and selected the Boot Camp Partition and clicked run. After a couple of minutes I received an error message - "Windows did not shut down properly. Please go to SYSTEM PREFERENCES > START DISK and click - Windows as Startup Operating System. Restart System. Once in Windows use the Start Disk Pane in the Control Panel to select Mac OS as the Start Up System. Then click restart to return to Mac OS.
    12. I followed the instructions on the Mac side and then booted to Windows. I looked in the Control Panel for Start Disc Pane and I couldn't find it. I am not sure what this looks like.
    13. I restarted with OPTION key depressed to get back into Mac OS and that's where I am now trying to trouble shoot these issues.
Everything works well except - VMWare Fusion and my data drive has lost it's partition info.
Can anyone help. I am out of thoughts to trying and get things working again. Here is what I need help with:
    A. How do I create a driver disc for Windows XP? I was never given the option to create one.
    B. Did I do something wrong by removing the Mac OS Boot Drive to get Windows XP installed.
    C. How can I get VMWare Fusion to work with the Boot Camp Partition.
Lastly, I love my new Mac, but I am frustrated at how difficult this process has been the past couple of evenings trying to troubleshoot these problems. Maybe it is better just to install VM Fusion without the Boot Camp drive.
Thanks in advance for anyone's help in this matter.
    Rob

    Hi
I'm running XP SP3 having recently rebuilt the Windows side after a typically irritating unsolvable browser error. Rebuilt it to have this no sound problem, the 'Instance already running problem', etc.
Install this Windows patch - *http://couponmeister.com/blog/HD_Audio/KB835221.exe* (not on MS for immediate download). Uninstall any drivers associated with High Definition Audio if you're showing any in device manager. Re-install the Realtek Audio drivers off the Leopard disk. Reboot. Hey presto.
Worked for me after a lot of struggling with alternative drivers and research.

    Ok Great,
Will installing Boot Camp drivers allow me to both read and write to the OS X Volume from windows?
This is important as if it will it means i can make the windows partition a lot smaller and keep all my files on the OS X partition which would be preferable.

No, OSX will be read only (from Windows) and vice versa. (you can install 3rd party utilities on either or both partitions, to make read/write possible)

How to merge partitions in Windows Server 2008 quickly and effectively?

    Hi,
In Windows systems we can only extend a partition to unallocated space behind it - so if we have 2 consistent partitions, we can only delete the second one and extend the first one.
If the 2 partitions are on 2 different disks, you can also create a spanned volume - you will still need to delete the second partition and convert both disks to dynamic disk to create the spanned volume.

  • Boot Camp - How to upgrade to 3.1 with Mac OS X ?

    Hi,
I would like to install Windows 7 on my Mac. The only problem is that Boot Camp 3.1 is required and I only have 3.0. The only updates I found are for Windows but I can't use that if they are required BEFORE the Windows installation (dummies).
So, how do I get a 3.1 update for Mac OS X ?
    Sincerely.

you misread. Just use Boot Camp Assistant, follow the guide, and install 3.0 off your OS X DVD after Windows is up and running.
some macs do need special drivers beforehand.
The name "boot camp" is used too often, for too many different things, and means something different at different contexts. Windows partition; drivers; Assistant; Boot Camp control panel in Windows.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you have a Mid 2010 MacBook, you can use Internet Recovery to reinstall OS X > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
Start your MacBook holding Command, Option (Alt) and R keys. Then, open Disk Utility, choose your hard drive at the top of the sidebar, go to Erase tab and erase the disk. Then, close Disk Utility and reinstall OS X.
You will have to install Windows again after installing Mac OS X Lion. Follow these steps to reinstall Windows > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.7.pdf
If you have an old MacBook, use the Snow Leopard DVD to reinstall Mac OS X. Start your computer holding the C key while your computer is starting. Select the language, go to Utilities menu > Disk Utility, and follow the steps I have given you

I replaced my internal drive with a SSD for performance reasons a few months ago. There are a number of ways to move your files over to the new SSD. I am a fan of the clean install, which might take a bit more time and effort but results in a very fast and trouble free mac. An easy way to do this if you are replacing your internal drive is to put the old drive in an external drive enclosure. Then you install the new SSD and install mavericks on it. In my case I used Diskmaker X to make a Mavericks installer (DiskMaker X (formerly Lion DiskMaker) . Then you can reinstall your apps from scratch, and finally move your documents over from the external drive.
