Boot Camp not recognizing disc

Alright, so it seems as though I have had problem after problem trying to setup my Windows 7 boot camp. Normally I don't actually create new posts but with this issue I have not been able to find any solid answer yet.
I have tried multiple times to burn my Windows 7 iso file. Each time I attempt to burn it on my Macbook, it says the burn was successful but then after putting the disc back in- it says it is blank. The discs I am attempting to use are CD-R. And yes- for every burn I have been doing, I have verified the disk. Each time it comes out successful- but nothing appears to be on the disc when I insert them into my MBP.
So I thought maybe it was the disk type so I searched my room to find a blank DVD-RW. Whenever I try to put it into my MBP- it idles with it and then spits it out. No errors or anything. So after all that I did more research and kept finding that maybe it was my disk drive. So I grabbed my Mother's laptop and attempted to burn the Windows 7 iso on her laptop. It completed successfully and when inserting the disk back into the laptop (my Mothers laptop) the files appear to be on the disc. So naturally I put the freshly burnt disk into my MBP and it appeared to be blank?
Out of curiosity I put all the disks that I attempted to burn inside my mothers laptop and each one had the boot files and everything all burnt on- so I am kind of at a stand still.
I am quickly running out of ideas to try with this. It seems that I am not able to use the iso file by itself in boot camp so does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
And the reason I am having a hard time beleving that it is the disc drive- is that if I put in a CD with music on it, or put in a movie- it runs perfectly?
Thank you in advance.

Well I normally hate it when I search a problem and find someone who has the same exact problem- but they never posted an answer.
The solution to my problem was simple- it was the software I was using to burn my iso. I ended up using Roxio Toast Titanium to burn the iso and it worked like a charm.

  • Boot camp Not recognizing my xp pro cd? very frustraiting please assist

I don't get why this just wont work. I have a Win Xp Pro cd. Works fine when I insert it on my windows. But when im in boot camp and click "start installation" i get a pop up that says "No Installer CD found. Its mounted on the destop so it is there. I put it in the wondows computer loads up fine. But i dont get why Boot camp wont recognize it. This is very frustraiting ive been waiting forever for something just like this to come out. Anyone have any advice.
Note: I have the Win XP pro disk with SP2 the disk that im reffering to above is a buned disk. I had 2 copies just incase i ever lost one since its a pretty hefty price to pay for another. That could be the problem. But like i said It works just fine when I insert the disk in my windows. So i need a work around or a way to get Bootcampt to freaking read the disk for me.

Bryan, I have had a similar problem; I have a major problem installing Virtual PC / windows on my new custom Power Mac Pro: I bought a copy of Virtual PC for the Mac, containing windows professional, specifically to use on my new Intel Mac (having bought it as an upgrade from POWERBOOK G4) but of course it won't load onto the new Mac system running Boot camp (this, I thought supposedly allows windows and the Mac system to co-exist on the same hardrive) and calls for the"windows installation disc). Virtual PC for the Mac, as sold by Apple with the won't run on the Power Mac Pro loaded with MaxOSX 10.4.6 and hangs up and won't load the Windows professional!!!. Any ideas gratefully received as I am disinclined to send Bill Gates anymore money just to get functionality I thought I paid for in the first place (especially as I am ****** off at having ti use any windows-based software in the first place!!!).

  • Bootcamp error: not recognizing disc

I have a macbook pro 13" with OS X Lion 10.7.5. My main objective recently is to get my CAC card reader to work and actually be recognized on my mac. I tried everything i could think of to get it to work. Nothing. SO...since the CAC card reader is mainly for Windows i found out that i can run windows on my mac and decided to do so.. Blah blah...
So i downloaded an .iso file of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and used disk utility to burn it to a DVD. It said it was successful. I went into boot camp, downloaded the support software, success.I reinserted the DVD and for some reason i got the pop up stating that the disc I just inserted was blank when i knew it wasnt because i double checked and disc utility tells me that its not. Well when i got to the install part, bootcamp came back with a message stating "installer disc could not be found." I would like to know a few things:
If you can help get the CAC reader to work i'd appreciate it.but
What windows do i need? 32- or 64-bit? Can it be an iso? Or do I have to convert it to a bootable DVD.? Ive read the boot camp instructions but they really werent any help.
Most of my questions are based on things i found while searching for answers only to get more questions.Anyone? Step-by-step would really help. And possible things i may encounter with solutions. Ive been at this for days and I'd rather not beat around the bush anymore, if you know what i mean.

Ok my mac needs 32 bit and i think I can just do ultimate. CD will not work at all. Ever. USB is for the support software, i cant take windows from it and use it to put windows on my mac. Boot camp requires a disc of some sort.  How do i burn the DVD at the lowest possible speed in disc utility.?

  • Boot Camp 4 - Installer disc not recognised

    Hi All,
I am trying to create a Windows 7 partition on my Macbook Pro (late 2009) running OSX Lion 10.7.2 with Boot Camp 4.
Clicking on "Install" button to create the partition and install Windows with the disc in the drive gives an "The windows installer disc could not be found" error. The disc is a downloaded Windows 7 installer disc image, unpacked so it looks exactly like a standard Windows install disc with all files (i.e not a single ISO or image file).
Could the content of the disc be an issue, as to why the Mac cannot read the disc? I have read in another support thread that the solution to this is to burn an Windows 7 ISO as an image (DMG?), so would keeping an ISO file on the disc work?

    miguel.loff,
Your instructions were so helpful! I was struggling with this for a few days. I tried multiple times to burn the .iso file onto the DVD and this was the only method that worked. Bootcamp Assistant replied with "installer disc could not be found" for all other attempts. If you are downloading Windows 7 from the internet (from your school or something), then DEFINITELY USE THIS METHOD BECAUSE IT WORKS.
Heres exactly what I did to get Windows 7 running on my Mac:
    A. Download Windows 7 file; if file is an ".img" change it to an ".iso"
    B. Follow burning method from "miguel.loff" YOU MUST USE A DVD not a CD
    1) Insert blank CD
    2) Open Disk Utility (Applications>Disk Utility)
    3) From the File menu, choose Open Disk Image and select the .iso that you want to burn
    4) In the list of volumes (at the left of the window), you will now see an item representing the .iso file. Select it.
    5) Click on the burn button and you're done.
    C. Open Bootcamp Installer on your mac and follow instructions. Download Windows 7 support software to an external hard drive. THE EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE MUST BE FORMATTED TO MS-DOS(FAT) (idk what that means but its easy to do.) In order to preserve the mac portion of your external HD, create a Windows partition for you your external hard drive [MS-DOS(FAT) ] in the same disc utility used to burn the DVD
    D. Insert Windows 7 Disc; Partiton your computer's HD, and then Windows installion will begin

  • Boot Camp "The installer disc could not be found"

    Hi,
So i'm attempting to load win7 onto my MAC. Thus far i have downloaded the .iso image off MSDN (throught my university, for all intents and purposes should be as legitimate as an off the shelf copy)  and burned it to DVD as a bootable disc image. however for some reason when using Boot Camp im told "The installer disc could not be found"
There is data on the disc however when i go into the disc via finder it appears empty (no icons)... even though it is not (get info > xyzMB used)...
I know most people use parallels etc but if anyone has successfully accomplished a win7 install and knows where im going wrong it would be greatly appreciated... thanks

All op needs to do is make a bootable USB thumb drive.
    on mac http://blog.nightlionsecurity.com/guides/2011/07/burn-iso-to-bootable-usb-flash- drive-in-mac-osx-terminal-via-command-line-diskutil/
on windows its easier you can just download the microsoft iso tool or use pendrive linux to create the bootable usb from the iso (downloaded from msdnaa)
Your comment is uncalled for. And you give the wrong info on installiing Win 7 on a Macbook Pro in a Boot Camp Partition.
It can only be installed from a DVD drive installed internally in the system. Apple has limited the installation of Windows 7 from only that drive. Can't install from USB thumb or DVD drive connected by USB port.
    Thanks, BUT.

  • Why does Boot Camp not recognize Windows ISO image(s) ?

    Dear friends,
My intention is to install Windows 7 on my Mac
(I've several Windows OS .iso images)
in the "BOOTCAMP" called partition, created by Boot Camp 3.0 application, on my internal drive.
This is a 32 GB partition, being FAT32 formatted,
but any version of Windows 7 (when installing)
will surely want to be on an NTFS volume and reformat it.
I've already burned 3 ISOs, with Toast Titanium 10.0.7 (speed : 2x, less not possible), on 3 DVDs :
    — 1 DVD -RW with W7 Enterprise x64 (with folders and strict ISO 9660 names) ;
    — 1 DVD -RW with W7 Enterprise x86 (32-bit) with one unique ISO, alone ;
    — 1 DVD -R with W7 Ultimate x86 (32-bit) with one unique ISO, alone.
*Boot Camp doesn't recognize these discs as Windows installation DVDs*,
and so does nothing but wait.
I'm sure that something is missing on the disks to be recognized
    as bootable Windows installation discs,
but I absolutely don't know what (setup.exe, for example, or another .exe file ?).
Do I have to do something with the burning options
(strict ISO 9660 naming, Mac names authorized, Hybrid Mac and PC,
Joliet names or not, folders or not, etc.)
Do I have to do something with the ISO image (any ISO I have), and how, and what ?
I've also activators and many other things (.exe files),
but I think they have to be used AFTER installation.
Thank you very much in advance for your help !
    With my kind regards,
    Olivier Herrbach

    Dear baltwo,
Thank you very much for your feedback.
I'll go there immediately. It's obvious for me that only one .iso file, alone on a DVD, can't be sufficient, comparing with +(but I don't know what)+ is on a Microsoft Windows Install DVD.
    With my kind regards
    Olivier Herrbach
PS : I didn't have any time to reply to anyone, when I asked "How can I move something (copying it) without leaving original in it's place ?". Someone had the answer : "Drag and hold down cmd while releasing mouse". OK, it works, but you have to have good nerves, because folders open when doing that (I changed delay in Finder Preferences to the slowest), and there's also another inconvenient : I don't trust in copy (I want a one by one byte result), so I have to write what Get Info says BEFORE, and compare it after that with what Get Info says. In this case, I prefer to return to my old habits.
PPS : I observed, and I will tell it somewhere when possible, that *Get Info gives false informations*.
For example, I copied a folder with 58 items inside. Get Info didn't give me the same number of bytes for the copy as for the original. So, I did Get Info for *EACH of the 58 items*, wrote the results (in bytes) on a paper, and after adding *all the bytes of the copy*, found THE SAME NUMBER *as the total size of the original.* That's how I waste my time !
Good evening, hoping to read you somewhere soon.

  • Boot Camp not able to install Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit!!???

Guys I'm using Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 & I'm having a problem installing Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit through boot camp. When I insert the windows installation disc it creates the partition but as soon as it restarts to proceed the installation, it hangs up there saying 'No Bootable Device. Please Insert Installation Disc and press any key to continue'. But when i was previously using Mac OS X Snow Leopard, I installed Windows 7 using the same disc and it proceeded without any issues. Can any body give me a solution to it please because I want Windows 7 in boot camp and I do not want to use it in any virtual machine like parallels desktop!!! I AM USING iMAC 2010 so its quite new!!!!!!

I am having the same problem. I have a very recent 27" iMac 3.4g i7 and I am trying to install Windows 7 64bit upgrade. Also running OSX 10.7.2. It also stalls out after expending files reporting that there are missing files with a error code 0x80070057. I was trying to install a fresh complete version but had bought the upgrade.. I had vista on another machine but had taken it off and was going to use the key for the upgrade. No windows had as of yet been installed. I later tried to install Vista as a way to upgrade to Win7,which went ok, but when I tried to upgrade to Win 7 64bit, I couldn't. I have tried this multiple times without success and have removed the boot camp partition after each failed attempt... Any Suggestions?? Thanks in advance

  • Boot Camp Mac Driver Disc Error

    Hello,
So, I got through most of the Boot Camp process but right at the end I had an error. I originally burned the driver disc onto a CD. After installing windows and starting it up I popped in the driver disc and it started downloading the drivers. Then all of a sudden a window pops up that reads:
    Feature Transfer Error
Error: -1603 Fatal error during installation
Consult Windows Installer Help (msi.chm) or MSDN for more information.
So, I figured it was an error with the driver disc. I figured I would create another by logging onto OSX. I tried restarting the computer from Windows and everything just froze. I ended up having to manually restart my iMac. I then logged onto OSX and this time burned the drivers onto a DVD. Well, I got the same results. Same error at the same point in the driver download into Windows.
This is just reminding me how frustrating Windows can be. I am stumped on what to try next, and Windows still freezes when I attempt to shutdown or restart.
    Is anyone else experiencing this?
    Thanks!
    -Matt

Error 1603 is a generic machine-specific issue. One or more of the following fixes resolve the error.
    1. This error is known to occur on computers that do not have enough disk space for the installation.
    2. The Temp directory is not clean.
    3. A certain file on the machine is locked. To fix this, close all applications running in the background. Reboot computer and run the installation again.
    4. Use Microsoft Windows Installer Cleanup utility by clicking on the following link: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301 to remove traces of previous installations. This utility does not remove files installed by the installation, which may need to be removed manually. Go to the following Microsoft link to download the Microsoft Windows Installer Cleanup Utility.

  • Boot Camp not booting

Hi! I've just tried to install Windows on a MBA using a thrid party USB DVD-ROM. The DVD-ROM workes fine, and has external power. I just installed OS X using it, with no problems.
When I run the Boot Camp Assistant it says to reboot, and insert the Windows-CD. I do so, i reboots, and the Apple-logo appears. It stays for some time, and suddenly it changes between the Apple-logo, a stop sign and a folder with a quiestion mark on it.
Is it not possible to use third party DVD-ROMs when installing Windows?

See, How to use Remote Disc to share DVDs or CDs on a Mac or Windows-based.
The question mark indicates a problem with one or more system files needed by OS X during startup. First thing you can try is:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger, and 4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
However, if that doesn't work you will have to re-install OS X. You may be able to do this using Archive and Install so you won't have to erase the hard drive:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.
I believe you misunderstood the instructions for installing Windows on a Boot Camp partition. Once the partition is created you need to insert a Windows installer disc, but you don't reboot. Boot Camp will automatically run the Windows installer. Please be sure you read the Boot Camp documentation carefully as well as carefully follow the Boot Camp Assistant instructions as you proceed.

  • Boot camp not found

    Hello,
First of all sorry for my english.
I have a Macbook, i had bootcamp installed on it. After a full format et reinstall (ofc with orignial CD's) i have everything back as it was when i bought the mac EXCEPT boot camp. It's not on the macbook anymore, can't find it or a place to download it.
How to fix it / get it back?
    Thanks in advance,
    Agashi

It look like the good thing to do. But i have a problem at second step. I may type it in a wrong place, but it's named "Go to folder", so i think it's the good one, and when i type it, it says that the file is not found. Since there is no number on installation discs, i did it with both of them.
Can you help me once again?
    Thank you
    Resolution
To reinstall the Boot Camp Assistant from the DVD set, follow these steps:
Insert the Mac OS X Install Disc 1.
Select Go to Folder and type:
    /Volumes/Mac OS X Install Disc 1/System/Installation/Packages
Double-click BootCamp.pkg to reinstall the Boot Camp Assistant.

  • Boot camp not working cause disk needds repair

well. im trying to run boot camp but everytime i go to partition, it says failed to partition cause the disk needs to be repaired start up Mac OS X with start up disc and go to disc utility. ive done this numerous times and everytime i do it, it says the disc doesnt need to be repaired... so im not sure whats going on... so if anyone can help it would be cool.
    thnx

    Hi,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
If you haven't done this already, boot from the Leopard DVD (hold down 'C' after (re)starting your computer, until you are prompted to choose a language. Then wait until the installer appears.) *Ignore the installer.* Instead, move the mouse pointer to the top of the screen, wait for a menu to appear, then, from the Utilities menu, choose Disk Utility. Select your Macintosh HD, and perform a "Repair Disk".
In the unlikely event that this reports (or reported if you did this already) "no errors", as was the case for the original poster, then we have the interesting situation that your HD has a newer version of Disk Utility than the DVD, and the newer version is noticing errors but the older version is not. Otherwise, you can stop reading this paragraph. So the next thing to try would be to run the newer version of Disk Utility. Do this by going to the menu, and selecting Utilities > Terminal. Then type
    <pre>open -a /Volumes/Macintosh\ HD/Applications/Utilities/Disk\ Utility.app</pre>
and again select your Macintosh HD and click "Repair Disk".
If even after booting from the Leopard DVD to run Disk Utility you still get "Error: Filesystem verify or repair failed" then I don't know what to suggest next except that I've seen others highly recommend DiskWarrior for such situations. Unfortunately, DiskWarrior is not free; I think it is around US$100.

  • Boot camp not opening

I've got a early 2011 Macbook Pro 17 inch. I downloaded the latest support software and installed it. All of the drivers are functioning properly when I'm running windows, however when I open the bootcamp assist within windows to customise settings nothing happens. I downloaded the drivers from osx bootcamp and then tried downloading the correct support software again from Apple and still nothing. Any suggestions?

    david11717 wrote:
Well, my problem is that when I try using the boot camp assistant and try to download the "Windows Support Software" it says "Download could not continue. The Windows support software is not available." I read around the forums and saw that you can install Windows 7 x64 anyway but then put in the original discs that came with the laptop to install boot camp. The problem with that is that I don't have those discs. Is there a fix to get the boot camp assistant to download the Windows support software?
You didn't mention what version of OSX you have but ... if Lion you can download them using Boot Camp assistant, if Snow Leopard you can obtain a replacement disc from Apple (you'll need the serial number of your Mac), buy a retail copy of Snow Leopard ($29) or download them using Boot Camp Assistant.

  • Blue tooth on win 7 boot camp not working.

I'm running Win 7 ultimate on a mac book pro purchased a couple of months ago.
after many different attempts and rough hours shouting to the heavens the hate i feel for this demonic device i managed to have to running Win.
I can deal with extreme penalties of becoming an apple customer in terms of no HDD common access from both Os`s, keyboard and track pad non responses etc... i can figure out for the life of me why cant i make the blue tooth devices pair !? maybe i got spoiled using a dell notebook for many years and i'm used to things working for the way i want them to and its a different package i should have bought from apple (aside for care and shmare )
Anybody feels like giving a hand here ?

When you completely uninstall all video drivers Windows will fall back to a very basic (it's like it's 1995!) video driver. As the thread starter says 800x600 is the resolution.
So this morning I did fully uninstall all drivers and got the 800x600 in the center of the screen and rebooted with the stretched 800x600. Once I logged in Windows did install a driver (ATI Mobility HD 4850 (Microsoft Corporation WDDM1.1)) I forget the version of it though. Anyway it was buggy (I think but it was not band-y ). So I ran the boot camp 3.1 update. When I rebooted everything looked great.
My driver version though 8.641.1.0 (8/24/2009)! So now I'm older then 8.661 BUT no banding and no constant crashing. I did get the split screen issue where the top is on the bottom and the bottom is up top. This was at the login screen though and once I logged in my desk top was ok. My card is also identified as ATI Radeon HD 4850, I thought it was the mobility version though.
And that was not as simple as I wrote.. There were MANY rollbacks and uninstalls and trying to manually pick the driver to install. Even got the black screen at one point and had to boot to command line to delete that ATI file. So maybe set aside an hour or two...
    STO played fine as well!
Now to rock the boat and see if Windows wants to update me...

  • Option Key for Boot Camp not working with New iMac Keyboard

Hi, I own a early 2006 Intel iMac. Recently, my wife complained that the keyboard was getting dirty. Basically I think she liked the new keyboard on the new Aluminum iMac better. We purchased it back in August and everything worked great. Oh I also had the beta version of Boot Camp installed. Everything worked great, hold Option down on boot and could choose which OS to go into.
Fast forward to now, purchased Leopard and love it! Decided to wipe the system and do a fresh install. Everything is installed (Leopard, Boot Camp, Windows XP) and working great, that is except when I press and hold the Option key at start up. If I have the new keyboard installed, the Option key does not bring up the boot manager. However if I plug the original keyboard in and hold Option, it works!!!
Ok I could see a problem if the new keyboard was NOT an Apple product. But it is and frustraiting as I can use the control panel to choose. This is a long round about method and does not make a happy wife with me. HELP!
    Jhan Jensen

Thanks for the info! I was about to call myself and I may still do so. I am hoping if Apple gets enough of these calls then maybe it will spur them on to get it done sooner. (Apple are you listening) I will do the same with the KB swapping, she will be happy at least she can still use the new keyboard. She types a lot and has be really happy with the new keyboard and its response.
    Thanks again for the help!!!

  • Boot camp not recognize keyboard and mouse when installing windows 7 pro 64 bit

    Hi,
I have some issue when installing windows 7 pro 64 bit using boot camp. after done partitioning the windows drive and when boot to windows installation process, i've got stuck in the first screen when choosing the language. it seems that the keyboard and mouse are not detected.
i'm using boot camp ver. 5.0.
does anyone have similar problem with me?

I have finally successfully installed Windows 7 x64 on MacBook Air 13.3" (2013) thru Bootcamp.
Problem:  After Windows 7 install thru BootCamp, I got to the first login screen and not input devices (Mouse, keyboard, USB) worked.   I tried to boot into Windows Safemode, but I received the error  "Windows can not complete installation in Safe Mode".
Cause:  WIndows 7 does not have native USB 3.0 drivers, included on the install images.
Resolution:  I downloaded the latest device drivers with thru BootCamp and copied them to the USB Flash Drive that had my bootable Windows 7 x64 install on it.  The second option in BootCamp is "Download Support Media".  This does more than just download drivers.  It creates a file called "autoattended.xml".  This is key as it tells Windows during the install process to use the device drivers that you download.  Otherwise, you need to do it manually, which you can't because you have no mouse or keyboard.
NOTE:  I had no need of a super drive because I had all the files on one USB flash drive.  Therefore, I don't think it matter which side of the MBA the USB drive was plugged in, as other solutions suggested.
