Boot Camp partition created but W7 did not install?

On a late 2009 MB running Lion 10.7.2 with 2.26 Intel Core Duo I used Boot Camp to partition the drive and tried to install Windows 7 Enterprise w/SP1 (x64 and x86).  The computer restarted in Lion and I can see the Boot Camp partition but I do not think W7 installed.  When I restart and hold the option key there are only the MB and Restore drives available.  Can I install W7 Enterprise?  If so, any suggestions on how to proceed?
I found this:
These Macs can use 64-bit editions of Windows Vista and Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Professional, or Windows 7 Ultimate:
MacBook (13-inch, Late 2009) and later
But I have never seen W7 Enterprise listed on either a compatible or incompatible list.
Thanks in advance,
Kyle

Thanks Hatter,
Actually figured it out and got it installed last night.  Using Explorer now.  What I ended up doing was inserting the W7 disk while in Mac.  Then restarted the computer.  At the chime I held the option key until MAC and Restore and W7 disk appeared.  I selected W7 and Enter.  It installed on the partition as intended.
I'm not sure why the Windows Installer didn't do this automatically?  And, everytime the INSTALL rebooted the machine I had to hold the Option key to drive it to restart in Windows but that was it.  And, when asked, I selected BootCamp partition, Format, and installed the x64 (not x86).
When the Windows Install completed I made a few tweaks in preferences then inserted the driver disk I burned during the Boot Camp partitioning process.  There was an executable on it that I OKed and all my drivers were installed.  Video, mouse, wifi...everything works like a champ.
I partitioned out 50GB because I wasn't sure.  That's at least 10 and maybe 20GB more than needed.  I don't intend to store much on this partition, just need it for access to some work sites and to try to teach myself C# (we'll see how that goes, the last programming I did was in Turbo Paschal).
I still haven't been asked for product keys.  I assume that is coming after some period of time.
Thanks for the reply.

  • Boot Camp Windows 8.1 Installation Did Not Install Network Card

I just installed a Windows 8.1 Boot Camp partition on a new Mid 2013 MBA. The install ran the support software and installed the drivers. However I don't show any network cards in my Windows 8.1 installation. I reran the support sw manually and it went through and supposedly fixed any driver errors but I still don't see a network card or have a network connection. It works just fine in my OSX partition, so it is definately a driver issue. *** do I need to do to get the network driver installed?

In Thehatters defence, this was initially posted in the MacbookPro forum and then moved to Boot Camp,
If you have any joy solving your trackpad device driver issue, feel free to post here (there might be a similar fix for my  wireless adapter device)

Reinstalling Mavericks depends on several factors:
if you erased your recovery partition
what OS originally came on your Mac.
I'll assume you don't have a backup available that you made before your mishap,  because you didn't mention it.
That's really the take home message here: have a backup!
If you still have your recovery partition:
boot into the recovery partition (command R at restart)
use the recovery partition to reinstall Mavericks. see: OS X: About OS X Recovery
if you do not still have your recovery partition, then it depends on whether your Mac originally came with installer disks or not.
If it originally came with installer disks, you would boot from the installer disks, erase your HD, and then reinstall the OS that is on the installer disks, and then upgrade as necessary until you get to Mavericks.
If your mac did not originally come with installer disks, but you managed to erase your recovery partition, then you can try to boot into internet recovery (option-command-R at restart), and use internet recovery to erase your HD and reinstall the OS that originally came with your computer, and then upgrade to Mavericks if you need to. See: Hands on with Mountain Lion's OS X Recovery and Internet Recovery | Macworld
(the reference refers to ML but it applies just as well to Mavericks).

    Hey Beata G,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. If you are unable to install the software update, you may need to plug the iPad Mini into a power source. If it is below a certain percentage in power it will require power to ensure that iPad Mini does not loose power when installing. If you still have issues the following article will walk you through that process and also if you want to update the iPad Mini through iTunes.

  • Boot camp: partition created can't install windows

    I created a 63GB partition.
and during the bootcamp install it rebooted but never opened again and the Mac mini just spun and spun for a while and I then just reset it. though, the screen is black but I can hear the Mac spinning...I reset but this time use the OPTIONS button and it brings me to choices:
My HD, My time machine, windows, recovery, and EFI?
So DUH I choose windows and the screen goes blank, and the system just spins and spins.....
CAn I restart the Bootcamp assistant and jump back in at the INSTALL WINDOWS step?
    thanks in advance
    WINDOWS-7-64
MACMINI 2011, ( just bought it a few weeks ago)
    created the windows support software

So let me get this straigt, you went through the installation process for setting up windows7 using the bootcamp assistant.YES. IT CREATED A PARTITION AND AFTER IT FOUND THE WINDOWS INSTALLER AND DID IT'S THING IT SHUT DOWN.
i WAITED FOR IT TO WAKE UP AGAIN BUT THE SCREEN STAYED DARK BUT THE FAN JUST RAN AND RAN. SO AFTER 10 MINS. OR MORE I JUST HELD THE POWER BUTTON IN UNTIL IT SHUT OFF.
TURNED IT BACK ON WITH THE OPTION KEY HELD DOWN.
THE SCREEN OPENS WITH THE FOLLOWING ICONS: HD, TIME MACHINE, WINDOWS, EFI BOOT.
After the set up, you are not able to access windows7 when you start the mac holding down the option button at start up or reboot after selecting the windows os. WINDOWS DID NOT INSTALL.
I NEED TO GET INTO THE PARTITION AND INSTALL WINDOWS.
If you have not been able to acess win7 and have not had a chance to get it up and running with any personal info that would need backing up, just delete the win7 partion using boot camp assistant and start over. Yes, you will have to create your partition all over again, but all that is maybe on it is the basic install of win7.
Make sure you have installed the Windows support software.
WHEN I WENT BACK INTO THE BCA. THE ONLY OPTION WAS TO REMOVE WINDOWS-7. aFTER CLICKING CONTINUE....I SEE THE ICON OF MY HD TO RESTORE TO THE ORIGINAL SIZE...WHICH MEANS IT WILL REMOVE THE PARTITION AND EVERYTHING CURRENTLY ON MY HD NOW----RIGHT?
    THANKS FOR YOUR TIME MAN!

  • Can the boot camp partition be resized once windows is installed and running as virtual machine using vm fusion ware?

I have macbook air partitioned 505/50 and running OSX and win 7 side by side as virtual machines using vm fusion.  Can the partition size be changed without starting over?

Very helpful.  I started with vm ware to create a pseudo drive but could not import win 7 over home network.  mac has no immediate way to connect to network without adapter, and has no cdrom.  So i used boot camp to create partition, then made a bootable win7 iso file on a memory stick using win 7 usb/cdrom download tool from microsoft, and rEFIT to get mac to boot from the mem stick into the dos partition.  Then i ran vm fusion to import the win 7 partition as a virtual machine.  OSx and win 7 run side by side.
Seems from what you say that sizing cannot be accomplished without deleting partition and starting over.  If I start over and just run vm fusion to create he win7 virtual machine, not sure how I would bet the minimum win 7 os into the ac.  Perhaps vm will boot from the mem stick using refit.  Do you know?

  • Java-Applet-Plug-In shows up in Safari, but I did not install Java

    Hello,
in Safari, when you click on "Help" and then on "Installed Plug-Ins", you get a list of all Plug-Ins installed. Beside the Quicktime- and PDF-Plug-Ins there's also this Plug-In listed:
I wonder what this is, because I did not install Java on my fresh installed Mountain Lion.
Second thing I wonder about is this: By the fact that this Applet is listed under "Plug-Ins" what affect does it have, when I uncheck the Option for Java in Safaris securtiy options? Do I also need to uncheck "Plug-Ins", or can I leave it as it is? Same questions, if I pretend Java is installed.
Thanks alot for clearing that up! Again, there's a huge security issue with Java, as seen in recent news. And excuse my English.

  • Boot Camp partition deleted but still taking up space?

Specs: Mac OS X 10.5.8, 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2 GB memory
Recently procured a used 2008 MacBook Leopard from a relative before going overseas. They also gave me a DVD of Windows 7 Home Premium.
Thing is, I can't seem to partition it in Boot Camp Assistant. It's got 150GB, but only 100GB is actually available.
    1. Boot Camp Assistant gave me:
"The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved. Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) Volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using BCA again."
    2. Rebooted and held down Cmd/Opt/R keys. Only the HD drive was visible.
    3. Disk Utility. Only one volume: Mac OS Extended (Journaled). So I tried:
    First Aid:
No problems/bugs reported when verifying the disk, so there wasn't anything to repair.
    Erase:
Erased all free space and tried BCA again, still no luck.
    Partition:
Tried adding a new partition and resizing. Tried resizing the original partition. Same result: "Partition failed with the error: No space left on device". Then it just defaulted to the 150-GB sized drive with only 100 GB available.
    Restore:
Tried to restore from the external drive-based backup I made before erasing it the first time. None of the disks could be set as the destination.
I haven't got the install disk or the money to upgrade the OS, so any help would be appreciated!

Well even a good backup program costs something.
Disk Utility is free and can copy the system to another drive (RESTORE TAB)
5.8 is so old you should not be connected to the internet with it probably.
yours is like the 2,999th post of the same error and asking 'what do I do.'
you need contiguous unfragmented free space. Leo 10.5 is not as flexible as later to shrink a partition to help move files to consolidate that free space like 10.6.8 ($20) which is what I would go out and buy.
Carbon Copy Cloner older versions are free/shareware and great for making a bootable backup of your system to another disk drive. Use it!
Not sure what you used or did but to backup and restore you need to use a program that makes bootable backups (you can't just copy files by hand).

  • Boot Camp, Partitioning, Windows (but which version?) and FrontPage

    Hi there,
I have an iMac purchased in August of 2009. I need to install Windows in order to use FrontPage for updating websites. I tried partitioning the iMac using Boot Camp, and I installed WindowsXP, SP2, 32 bit, but it was a copy of an original install disk. When installing XP, only one partition was recognized, and that partition wasn't labeled "Boot Camp." I then proceeded to have all kinds of problems, such as getting a black screen with a message reading insert bootable disk and press any key. Using the forums, I was able to solve that problem and all is well again, although still no Windows on my iMac!
I called customer care, and a very helpful senior technician (Amy) told me that my problem was that I was not using an original install disk. A copy of an original install disk would not work. She also said I should use a NON OEM version of a Windows XP, Vista or 7 install disk.
I have several questions that I'm hoping someone can help me with:
    1) *Has anyone else successfully used a copied install disk to install Windows on an iMac using Boot Camp?*
    2) *Has anyone else successfully used an OEM original install disk to install Windows on an iMac using Boot Camp?* I'm finding a lot of original Windows operating disks for purchase from places like Circuit City, etc., but everything is OEM.
    3) Should I just spend around $200 and buy Windows7 and go from there?
All I really need Windows on the iMac for is so that I can continue to use FrontPage for updating websites. I am willing to consider moving to a program that is Mac based. However, iWeb is way too basic, and DreamWeaver is way too complex (to say the least). *Does anyone have recommendations for Mac based software for website design and publishing?* I've looked at RapidWeaver, but I'm not sure this is quite robust enough for my needs.
    Thanks!

  • Boot Camp 2.1 Update: Error, would not install

I tried to update my Boot Camp to 2.1.
The reasoning being, that my dimmer button, my volume button, etc does not work on my Windows Vista Ultimate Side.
Other short cut keys worked (i tried): ie: Print screen via 'fn'altF11, etc
However, when I installed it, the following message appeared.
"the installer encountered errors before Boot Camp could be configured.
To retry these operations at a later time, please run th installer again.
Click Finish to exit the installer."
How can I install the Boot Camp 2.1 updater?
    Please advise.
    Many thanks.

First, backup. Files and system with Ultimate's build-in programs or 3rd party.
run chkdsk for starters. you may want to dabble even more with msconfig and look at your logs, see if there are errors, what startup items and services are running.
I could not install BC 2.1 64-bit even though I have 64-bi9t OS and hardware, maybe because older Mac Pro has 32-bit EFI.
I'd look at uninstalling and reinstalling BC 2.0 and leave well enough alone and focus on just the small issues for now.
Oh, and WinClone is another method and free for backing up NTFS partitions from within OS X worth looking into.
I have not read of the error you got, off hand, that I recall reading.
I really think we need a BC 2.2 at this point in time.

  • Boot Camp 3.1.3 Update will not install

I have a new MacBook Pro 13-inch mid-2010 model, and I noticed that when I am in Windows 7 and try to use my headphones through the audio jack, I get no sound. I looked online here, found the 3.1.3 patch which claims will fix headphone sound, downloaded it, but when I went to install it, I got this error:
"The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch."
This is frustrating because I DO have Boot Camp 3.1.0 installed, which I assume is the version needed to upgrade, and Boot Camp IS installed. I also downloaded the 32-bit version as that is the version of Windows 7 I have, and just for jollies I tried the 64-bit version but that yielded the same error.
What am I doing wrong here? How can I install this patch? I would very much like to be able to have functional headphones. Thanks in advance.

Ok, so I installed drivers from the system restore disks that came with my laptop, and the error message changed, still doesn't work, but progress is good, right?
    Now it says:
"The installed product does not match the installation source(s). Until a matching source is provided or the installed product and source are synchronized, this action can not be performed.
Contact your administrator or product vendor for assistance. If there is a matching installation source, type it below or click Browse to locate it"
Now, what on earth does that mean? In the test box, the default path is "C:\ProgramData\Apple\Installer Cache\Boot Camp 3.0.0\", which doesn't exist on my computer. When I click "browse" it lets me look for a .msi file, which I cannot find and do not know where to look for.
If I click OK, another error pops up saying:
"The file 'D:\Boot Camo\Drivers\Apple\BootCamp.msi' is not a valid installtion package for the product Boot Camp Services. Try to find the installtion package 'BootCamp.msi' in a folder from which you can install Boot Camp Services"
Please, please, please, if anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this, Iwould be very obliged. Thanks again in advance!

  • Boot Camp Beta 1.4 - Windows XP not installiing

I successfully installed Boot Camp on my MacBook. However, when I try and install the Wondows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 2, I get a generic error message basically saying the install needed to be stopped to protect my computer. I have enough room on my new partition to add windows. Can anyone help? I don't know why this is happening. I thought it might be because I have the wrong version of Windows but I do have the XP Home Edition. I believe it is the required 32 bit version but couldn't locate the info in the info provided with the software.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
