Boot Camp STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}

I was restarting my Mac Pro using Bootcamp and the following blue screen message displays:
Boot Camp STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x0000135 (0x00000000 0x00000000).
The system has been shut down.
I am running Lion and Windows XP - I have been using this setup successfully for months.
I have tried putting both the Windows XP disc and the OSX disc (Snow Leopard - upgraded to Lion from an App download) in the drive, holding down the 'c' key (to allow the machine to boot from the dvd drive) but it just goes to a black screen and switches off.
Any help to boot up my MacPro would be very much appreciated - I would be happy just to boot it up normally without Windows.
Thanks,
May

Upgrade to Windows 7 (or 8) is really a good idea if you want support, security, better use of resources.
You restarted into Windows (*Boot Camp does not run - anything)
Lion does not support XP but that just means you had it before.
No idea but I can't tell if XP And Lion are on the same hard drive (they should not if possible).
You should make bootable backups of your OS (both).
Pull your hard drives.
Boot into Lion Recovery.
Maybe you have a virus or hardware issue, it is impossible to know.

  • OK - sorry - STOP: c000021a Fatal System Error : Help me help my girlfriend!

Ok - you've probably seen this before.  Basically, my girlfriend was working at her laptop whereupon it suddenly gave her this error.  She doesn't know what she was doing immediately prior to this event, and now it gives her this message whenever she attempts to log on.  It seems to happen literally just before the box pops up asking for her login info. I'm basically trying to retrieve her files for her. (or salvage the entire thing - although this appears increasingly unlikely!).  Here is a list of what I have tried to do...
(This was originally intended as a letter for someone who is a lot better than me with computers, but the girlfriend forgot to drop the computer off last time she was in the city - we live in the sticks.)

    Computer gets fatal system error c000021a status of 0x00000000( 0x00000000, 0x00000000 )
Tried to load up through safe mode, etc, same blue screen.
Tried the restore cd but it said it was the wrong one for this particular machine. However, by validating with the restore cd I'm able to access the OS set up screen.
From here, I tried to do a windows repair. Repair seemed to complete successfully, but I still got the blue screen on boot.
I then tried going through the recovery console with the intention of copying her files to a memory stick before reformatting. It seems I needed to set a number of variables, (eg. allowallpaths and allow removable media). However, I was unable to use the 'set' command (eg. Set allowremovablemedia =TRUE) since set is disabled. It seems that the security policy needs to be changed, but that this can only be done through windows rather than the recovery console. You can change it through the registry if you can infact access and change registry values from the recovery console.
After this, I did a chkdsk /p which revealed some errors, which I repaired (chkdsk /r), but this still had no effect.
I also tried to do automated system recovery but it wanted the asr disk inserted into the a: which I don't think we have. I was expecting it to allow me to specify a drive to save a backup to (hence use a memory stick), but again, I think this might only be possible from within windows. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Other thing to note is she is running service pack 2 (she thinks).  I know this is SP3 forum, but I was pointed in this direction!
ANy help would be much appreciated.  I've been searching the web for about 3 days for a solution, and plus I can't seem to find anywhere helpful with the exact same error message.

that error code means Bug Check 0xC000021A: STATUS_SYSTEM_PROCESS_TERMINATED.  A restore wont fix it but a clean instal from the OS CD'S would.  Does she have the OS cd's?  Does she have a backup?  Can she boot into safe mode (F8??)?

  • Fatal System Error

I was downloading a program that wanted to also install a version of MySQL (I believe that this is the problem, although I don't know for sure) - as soon as it installed, this message appeared:
    "STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000034 (0x00000000 0x0000000)
    The system has been shutdown"
and the entire system shut down. When I restart XP, I get about two seconds before the error message appears and the whole thing shuts down again. I don't even know what's causing it, let alone how to get enough time to fix it. After a few restarts, Windows won't even load - it just goes to a black screen.
Also, the Boot Camp partition has disappeared from the Mac side. I can choose the Windows partition at startup, but it is no longer accessible from the Mac side.
Please help, I am at my wit's end, and I really don't want to wipe and restart the whole process.

Okay ... if you have your XP installation CD, you could try booting from that into the Recovery Console:
[Description of the Windows XP Recovery Console for advanced users|http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058]
That allows you a few diagnostic functions, although I'm not an expert in using those particular functions. A chkdsk /r might be worth a try, though, on the off chance that this is just a damaged file or folder (or piece of disk).

  • X301 displays fatal system error

Hello, Just got a new x301. Have only set up two user profiles and used internet once. After trying to start computor I get the c000021a fatal system error message. Thanks for any help.

Database is SQLServer located on network.
Yes, the database responds (the software works correctly)
The problem is that I no longer get the "updates and extras" page (for lack of a better description).  On one of the machines updated from sp3 to sp4 if I repair the sp4 it will work a time or two and then it stops working giving a internet connection not detected.  It's like it tries to connect to the internet then it stops.  IT dept says that the computers are able to access the internet (which they are), and nothing is blocked (no restrictions).  We use MicroTrend and Websense is the filter.
On initial repairs (or just as soon as I finish the repair) and upon restarting Crystal Reports, Websense will give an error saying that businessobjects is blocked.  after 5 minutes or so I can restart CR and it will work fine.  Then later on in the day, it will stop working and show the internet connect not detected and then after several more minutes it will show the fatal system error.  But, the program runs and works fine and all queries respond with accurate data.

  • Installing drivers for Windows XP leads to "fatal system error"

    Hello,
I am trying to install the drivers for Windows XP on my new MacBook, using boot camp from my Mac OS X install cd (version 10.6.3). The option comes up for me to either "repair" or "remove" drivers. I clicked on repair, and after about 5 min of smooth installing, the screen went blue and said that there had been a "fatal system error".
I also tried removing the boot camp, and then repairing and the same thing happened. I was glad to find that everything on the Mac side of my computer is still working fine.
Is there anything else I can try to install the drivers successfully?
    Thank you!!
P.S. I just noticed that my MacBook is running OSX 10.6.4, but the install cd that came with my Mac says it's OSX 10.6.3. Do you think that could have something to do with the problem?

  • HT1461 after partitioning and hitting continue I get a message stating that boot camp stopped unexpectedly. Can not get passed this despite several attempts.

I am attempting to install Windows 7 and have launched Boot Camp. When I get to the screen that has me partitioning, when I submit continue I receive a message stating that Boot Camp has unexpectantly stopped. My options are to cancel, reopen, or report error. I have attempted this set-up several times without success. Any suggestions are most appreciated.

Windows will not boot from USB if the Mac has an internal optical drive. This is something that Microsoft implemented.

  • Boot Camp and Disk Utility giving Error for my Hard Drive Volume

When trying to partition my Hard Drive with Boot Camp, I get an error message after a while saying that it can't be partitioned because there is an error in the volume and that I should check it in Disk Utility. After running Verify Disk, it had told me that the file count was wrong and that I should repair my Disk. I have leopard installed, but only had access to a Tiger Install Disc, so after booting to that and apparently repairing successfully, I booted back onto my Hard Drive and ran Disk Utility's Verify Disk again. Now it said that my Volume Header needs minor repair. I still get the same message in Boot Camp. Running Verify and Repair Disk from the Tiger Install Disc tells me that everything is alright and the Hard Drive doesn' need repairing. I read on an Apple article that verifying a disk that's booted can produce inaccurate results, and that it shouldn't be worried about, but I can't install Windows because of this! What should I do?

    Hi,
you have to boot from the Leopard OSX DVD in order to repair the Leopard OSX volume on your harddisk.
Using Disk Utility from an OSX version that is prior to the one you want to repair can indeed cause more errors than before.
So, search for the Leopard DVD.

  • Does a partition for Boot Camp slow down your system?

I'm gonna make a partition on my disk for bootcamp. Does adding a partition slow down your system when using Mac OS? I assume boot camp assistant creates a partition wherever there is enough required free space. And if this free space is in the middle of the disk, doesn't the system have to skip back and forth over the partition to access data?
Or does boot camp assistant create the partition at the end of the disk?
    Thanks for your replies.

Boot Camp partition is generally created at the end of the disk so to speak. While the partition is created, files are moved and arranged so that there is a contiguous space for the partition.
NO it does not affect the OSx performance at all as long as you have enough free space in the OSx partition for it to perform satisfactorily.

  • Boot Camp: Windows installation never begins -- Error message: No boot disk

    Ran Boot Camp:
    -Partitioned HD for Windows
-Put my Windows XP Professional disk in (yes, it is an original, genuine, and completely separate [not bundled] disk...is it SP2? I dunno...it says 2002? Anyway, I don't know if that's the problem)
-The Mac starts to reboot, but...
    -It EJECTS the Windows disk
-Then says in dos-looking font, something like: No boot disk attached, insert disk and press any key when ready.
-I press a whole lotta keys. I put all kinds of discs in there. Nothing works.
Already checked boot camp manual and help -- said to try to re-partition. Did that. Nada.
    Any help?

    From the MS website:
    Windows XP Service Pack 2
    Release Date: August 25, 2004

I suspect you do not have the SP2 version if your disk is from 2002.
    That would be the problem.

  • Fatal System Error C200021A OCX C0000005

My T500 just started crashing this past Sat. It is only approx. 10 mos. old and had been working fine.
I boots to my logins. I login and after a minute or so it crashes. It will also crash if I leave it at my logins screen.
It can just be idle and it crashes.
I have had the hardware check ed and it is fine.
I would very much appreciate hearing if anyone has heard or seen this error before.
    Thanks in Advance

I started getting this error about 2 weeks ago on my Thinkpad T400. I am running Win XP. First time, it just blue screened in the middle of working. I ran the full PC doctor diagnostic from ThinkVantage (about 6 hours!) and no errors. I restored from a backup from mid. November. It worked for a few days and then happened again. I restored a newer backup and it crashed again on the first re-boot. Went back to the older backup and crash has happened now 2 more times, both after installing a Windows update in shutdown and then rebooting. I am also suspecting the Windows update, and since I am restoring an older Win version, it keeps trying to update.
My last resort is to restore from factory and rebuild the whole computer, but that takes days and I ma not sure it will even fix the problem...

  • Fatal Error Message Now when trying to use Boot Camp

I have a new issue that just cropped up. I have been using Boot Camp for some time when I just need to be concentrating on the XP Pro side of the system. However, I typically use Parallels and get in just fine. Yesterday, I attempted to use Boot Camp and go into the PC Side...the WIndows XP Pro emblem comes up duing the boot, and then I get a blue screen with the following message in white text...
    STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Session Manager Initialization system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc000003a (0x00000000 0x00000000)
The system has been shut down.
Now, I have not tried to boot up in this since I installed Leopard. So my guess is that could be my problem. Any thoughts? Please let me konw...I need help. Thanks.

I think what Hatter was getting at is OS X gets really cranky when disk space is low, that is, below 10%. Try freeing some space on your drive.
Similarly, windows also gets cranky if it doesn't have enough VM space.
In both cases, you will see at minimum, slowdowns, and at worst, crashes.
How much ram is in your system, and how much have you allocated to windows?
windows does not run efficiently with less than 1gb.
The windows boot CD is an installer.
You should not get a C:\prompt when booting from the CD unless you select the option have entered the System Recovery Console.
The recovery console is good for some things, but you can hose the system even more if you are unsure of what you're doing there.
The repair option will replace some files on your HD - problem there is if you have installed security updates (hotfixes, patches, whatever) the file versions on the HD and the file version on the CD won't match, the repair process will complain, disallow the replacement, or outright fail.
The stop error you received is a big clue. Go to support.microsoft.com and search for that stop error. You'll get lots of hits, and it'll be tedious, but you'll get there.
Also, if you can get back into windows, go to control panels, administrative tools, event viewer. There will be 3-4 logs listed.
Search the system log for the date/time the stop error occurred. 2x click that entry. There will be more info there that will be useful on the ms support site.
If you cant find it, resort by the event type column and look for sysdump. That'll be log entry for the bluescreen error.

  • Boot Camp installer updates crashing WinXP

    Hello
I installed WinXP on my iMac today (2.6Ghz i5 processor, 16GB RAM, 2TB drive, OSX 10.6.8).
After running Windows (all the updates were installed), I tried to update the Boot Camp. My OSX disc installs Boot Camp 3.0 and I Software Updater is not updating it beyond that.
From Windows (Safari browser) I located and downloaded Boot Camp 3.1 and 3.2 from the Apple Downloads area.
However, when I run the 3.1 installer (which needs to be done before 3.2), I get a blue screen and this error msg:
    "STOP. c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The windows subsystem process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x7c911629 0x00c5ebe0).
The system has been shut down."
I then have to do a hard restart to get back.
I did this several times and got the same result (am I Einstein or what?).
In short I cannot get Boot Camp software updated - and I know that I have to get to 3.2 which has the latest drivers for WinXP 32bit.
Any ideas on what I can try to fix this?
Also - WinXP only recognises 2GB of RAM - when I have 16GB installed ... how can I get Windows to use the full 16GB?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Perhaps some umwanted advice, to one who wants to save $$ be re-using ...
MS probably has disavowed the existence of XP, for all intents and purposes.
If I did load it on a desktop by itself, I would expect 3 days of downloading patches on even the fastest internet line.
Windows 7 has the best "production level" support MS has to offer currently.
