Boot Failure following itunes install on vista

Hi all,
As a new ipod owner, just installed latest version of itunes. It downloaded and installed correctly but following the requested restart, pc failed to boot. Reset BOISS to defaul values, also tried all the safe mode options but no joy! It siply goes to the next stage and hangs with a black screen and a mouse pointer. Specs:
1 Samsung NP R20
2 Windows Vista
3 Standard ipod 80gb
The only strange thing during the install is that I left the ipod turned on and connected during the process. Any idea if this would have an impact? How do I get out of this one?
Cheers,
Al.

I had the same problem and this is what I did to fix it.
go to your control panel
User accounts and family safety
User accounts
You should now be at the make changes to your user account menu
Go to the last choice of turn user account control on or off and uncheck use User Account Control(UAC) to help protect your computer.
I did this and the installation worked like a breeze and we got our Itouch Ipod up and running immediately.
I hope this helps you out.

  • Boot failure following Windows 8.1 update. shows reason: irql_not_less_or_equal

    Hi,
I have the dreaded BSOD with irql_not_less_or_equal boot failure.
The PC was running Vista when bought, which was subsequently upgraded to Windows 8. This was done via an online purchase & download of the Windows 8 Upgrade, so I do not have any installation media. I have also updated (again online, so no physical media)
    to Windows 8.1
I have recently had to shut the PC down (it usually stays on all the time), but now it refuses to boot, going straight to the new style BSOD, showing 'irql_not_less_or_equal', which then restarts in to the system restore menu.
I have tried to remove some peripherals - removing the video card (now using the display adapter on the MoBo), a USB 3 card & a USB head-set dongle - which  has improved the situation a little - it now boots to the log-in page (sometimes), but will
BSOD after about 10 seconds, regardless of whether I am fast enough to log-in, or not.
I have tried (from the System Restore menu) to do a restore to a previous state, but it doesn't seem to be able to find the restore points.
Note, the BSOD occurs if I boot into 'Safe' Mode, or do a normal boot.
    The bottom line is:...
I can't boot to Safe Mode, get to any system maintenance tools, so I can't disable/uninstall any drivers.
Windows 8 & the 8.1 update were purchased online & downloaded, so no boot disk(s).
The recovery points I have made do not seem to be accessible.
Any advise on how to proceed?
    cheers
    Paul

now boots to the log-in page (sometimes), but will BSOD after about 10 seconds, regardless of whether I am fast enough to log-in, or not.
That should be enough time to get to the Shift-Restart option.   <eg>
Since you can see what you're doing you don't even have to do the backwards method that I was long proposing so that users who were trying to do this in the dark would be able to bypass their password field.   But maybe using a set of Backtab (Shift-Tab)
Shift-Space would be more efficient anyway?
Here is an example of an explanation of the technique:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/37eff8a6-74a3-4775-90d7-e0aa86c68424/windows-8-black-screen-at-boot?forum=w8itprogeneral#0dc40edd-4e3b-466b-b4af-37c532eb844a
    <quote>
In order to try to avoid hitting the Password field in this uncertain state I suggested using Backtab (e.g. Shift-Tab) to do the navigation. Fortunately, the pressing of Shift- would solve the problem of whether you were on the Lock screen or already on
the Login screen. So the iteration would be Shift-Tab, Shift-Space (Fortunately, the Restart item is at the bottom of the Shutdown menu.)

  • Various boot failures following fresh installation / ISO generation

    Hello,
It would seem that fresh Arch installations in the last couple of days are providing quite a few errors / failures during bootup. None of these occurred before then, which also seems to affect ISOs generated over the last couple of days too. Having looked into it, the issues seem to be primarily related the automatic activation of dcpcd, ip6tables, iptables, and the krb5 (Kerberos) services. I determined this after comparing the systemctl outputs of an ISO generated a week ago to one I created today. The difference was that the former used WICD and the latter NetworkManager. However, I do not believe NM somehow activated these.
Also noticed failures related to nscd and WPA supplicant. At face value the nscd issue seems identical to a bug report made in 2005: https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/2697
    Relevant journalctl entries for nscd:
Aug 28 18:47:41 evo nscd[235]: 235 cannot create /var/db/nscd/passwd; no persistent database used
Aug 28 18:47:41 evo nscd[235]: 235 cannot create /var/db/nscd/group; no persistent database used
Aug 28 18:47:41 evo nscd[235]: 235 cannot create /var/db/nscd/hosts; no persistent database used
Aug 28 18:47:41 evo nscd[235]: 235 cannot create /var/db/nscd/services; no persistent database used
Aug 28 18:47:41 evo nscd[235]: 235 cannot create /var/db/nscd/netgroup; no persistent database used
Still looking into the WPA supplicant issue. Found some old bug reports for other distros (i.e debian and Ubuntu), but nothing yet for Arch. Relevant journalctl entries for WPA supplicant:
Aug 28 18:49:03 evo systemd[1]: Dependency failed for WPA supplicant daemon (interface- and nl80211 driver-specific version).
Aug 28 18:49:03 evo systemd[1]: Dependency failed for WPA supplicant daemon (interface- and wired driver-specific version).
Aug 28 18:49:03 evo systemd[1]: Dependency failed for WPA supplicant daemon (interface-specific version).
Bit of an odd one I am still puzzled about is the failure of dmraid during ISO bootup. Again, this was not automatically activated before, but is now, resulting in (unsurprising) failure. Installation and ISO generation methods have not changed in the least, so am a tad perplexed! Can anyone offer any insight while I continue to investigate? Well, other than the most obvious suspicion, which is services for installed elements now automatically activate.
    Much appreciated,
    Carl

I have the same problem on a fresh install.
After running systemctl --state = failed I get the following:
      UNIT                                               LOAD    ACTIVE    SUB         DESCRIPTION
    ● ip6tables.service                        loaded   failed      failed      IPv6 Packet Filtering Framework
    ● iptables.service                          loaded   failed      failed      Packet Filtering Framework
    ● krb5-kadmind.service                loaded   failed      failed      Kerberos 5 administration server
    ● krb5-kdc.service                         loaded   failed     failed       Kerberos 5 KDC
    ● mdadm.service                          loaded   failed      failed      MDADM Event Monitor
    ● systemd-journal-upload.service loaded  failed      failed      Journal Remote Upload Servic
In my case I could make iptables and ip6tables torn after reading the wiki and do the following:
    # touch /etc/iptables/iptables.rules
    # systemctl start iptables
    # touch /etc/iptables/ip6tables.rules
    # systemctl start ip6tables
As for krb5 I could not even solve the problem, the problem is in the configuration file /etc/krb5.conf but when I compare the file with another previous installation on another computer there is no difference between them. I have not found much documentation about this topic.
A side effect is that there is no way that achieves connexion via wifi. If I connect to a wired network no problem, but it is impractical to take a very long cable wherever I carry a laptop.

  • Boot Camp - Question after install of Vista

Hi, first time mac user here, just had a quick question.
I installed Vista sucessfully, so now when i boot into Leopard i noticed that i have 2 drive icons on the screen, the OSX and the Vista ( use to be called untitled but i changed the name)
My thing is can i remove the Vista icon drive or will that harm the partition? why am i seeing that on the desktop now if thats a seperate partition ?
Why would i need that on the destop of OSX ?
Thanks for the help and explanation

No harm - you aren't the first that wanted their desktop to be 'clean' of drives. You can put an alias of your Mac OS volume if you want.
Seeing your are new - and even if you weren't but wanted to get more out of it, strongly recommend at least one book to get started "Mac OS X: The Missing Manual"

  • Itunes installed to vista 64 bit issues

Ive installed itunes into my new HP with vista 64 bit...it seems to work but its appearance isnt quite there. All the letters from the drop down menu are dark and out of focus- ie file-edit etc(top left) the task bar up top is completely black and you can barely see the letters, same with the bottom and the minimize, maximize and close icons in the upper right.
    any ideas?
Ive installed and uninstalled it several times and its still the same.

  • Itunes install and Vista x64 ".ipg" registry permissions issue

Much like similar posts, I tried to upgrade to 8.0.2.20 x64.
It gets almost to the end (on iTunes piece, I think) and stops with:
    "HKEYLOCALMACHINE32\Software\Classes\.ipg\OpenWithList\iTunes.exe.
Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact blah...blah...blah"
I initially ran the install "as Administrator". I tried again by logging into the machine as Administrator. Checked permissions on the above Reg key. Uninstalled, cleaned registry. Tried re-install of 8.0.11. Tried the "Switch-less" installs.
NOTHING gets past this registry key. And, of course, I have no iTunes! Quicktime and all the rest appear to be fine.
Somebody smarter than me <everyone!> please offer some relative wisdom or simply a comforting assurance that Apple is listening and cares deeply about our sufferings!
    Thanks, h

    Well, I have an update.
I used RegSeeker (again) but this time removed every reference to Apple and it's products.
I then went to apple.com thru IE 64bit and redownloaded the 64 bit itunes.
This time - it gave the "QT is corrupt or not present" error.
I went back to apple.com thru IE 64bit and down'd the standalone version of QT. It crapped out on a CLSID registry error (I can post the actual, if anyone cares)
HAS ANYONE HEARD ANY OFFICIAL WORD ON WHETHER APPLE IS ADDRESSING THESE ISSUES!

  • PC won't boot with CDRom Drives hooked up after iTunes install

    Hello All,
After installing iTunes (initial, first time install on this machine) the computer would not fully boot. It would get to the Windows starting screen and the indicator bar would reach about 2/3 of the way complete and sit there. I tried rebooting in safe mode and it would still get stuck at seemingly the same point. After attempting several things to try and correct the issue, I finally stumbled upon that if I disconnect the CD drives the computer boots fine with iTunes installed. I've searched through the past records and saw some similar issues, but nothing quite the same and a lot of the fixes involved running diagnostics on the CD drives, but I can't do that currently as I have to have them disconnected to use the computer. Ideas? Help!
    Thanks,

  • Itunes install on windows - not enough space with 80 gig open, itunes install on windows - not enough space with 80 gig open

    Hi
had itunes installed (windows vista 64), after lots of errors and refusing to sync nor repair nor upgrade - I uninstalled. the next step was that it didnt want to reinstall due to older version... have now removed all with Revo uninstaller pro. Now i cant re install as it tells me I dont have enough space even though i have 80gig open? dont know what else to try.

Best to remove all music and re-sync from the Mac, which you can do without doing a complete Restore of the iPhone.  Assuming that you auto-sync music and not manually manage music on the iPhone:
While connected to your Mac iTunes, change your sync settings by un-checking the "Sync Music" option, then apply the change to delete all the music.
Since there seems to be some funny business with iCloud, where some music downloads stubbornly remain on the iPhone despite attempts to delete them, disconnect from iTunes and check your iPhone to make sure all music really was removed.  If you still see music, first turn off the "Show All Music" option (Settings/Music/Show All Music/OFF) since songs with a cloud symbol really aren't on the device.  If after doing that you still see music on the iPhone, go to Settings/General/Usage/Music and swipe left to right across "All Music" and tap Delete.  Hopefully that deletes past cloud downloads you may have done.  If not, I've had to change to manual sync mode, manually deleting remaining songs by navigating into iPhone via iTunes, backing up, restoring from backup, then changing back to auto-sync mode.
Re-connect back to iTunes and change your sync settings to allow music syncing -- either your entire library, or selected playlists, genres, albums, etc.
You mentioned that your library is "only 14 GB" but consider that if you have a 16 GB iPhone you don't really have 16 GB of storage, so perhaps you're running up against a real capacity issue if you own a 16 GB model, or have a larger model but other things taking up space.  So perhaps you can no longer sync your entire library as you expect.

  • Transferring albumn artwork/song ratings etc to new itunes install

I have windows XP installed on one HD and Vista installed on another HD on the same PC. I have spent a lot of time getting the album artwork, rating the songs etc on the XP iTunes install. I recently upgraded my ram and can now use Vista w/o Lag and I want to find a way to transfer all the settings to my new iTunes install on Vista.
All the music is stored locally on a 3rd HD on my pc so I don't need help transferring my library (I saw a LOT of posts about that topic, so I'm just being clear that I don't need help with that).
Also my iPhone is synched with the iTunes/XP and I don't want it to erase everything off the phone if I synch it with the Vista/iTunes.. I have authorized the new iTunes.. just wondering if that is good enough or if there's anything else I need to do to ensure I can synch to both versions of iTunes w/o a problem.

You need to put your iPod in automatic sync mode and they will transfer automatically.
You can't do it if you are in manual update mode.

  • Trying to install itunes on windows vista and get the following error message:

Trying to install itunes on windows vista and get the following error message: An error occurred during the installation of assembly "Microsoft.VC80.CRT,version="8.0.50727.4053",type="win32",publicKey Token="1fc8b3b9a1e3b",process orArchitecture="x86"". A broken Windows Modules Installer then. It's a bit of an involved fix getting past it, but we've had success here with it in the past.
First, I'd strongly suggest setting up a system restore point.
Now try the Scenario III treatment from the following document:
Windows Update Error 80070424 in Vista
Head back into Windows Update and attempt to get updates again. If they still fail, this time with an 8000FFFF error code, try the following Microsoft document:
    Windows Update error 8000FFFF
If you get Windows Updates flowing again, stock up on any you're behind on (restarting the PC when requested to do so). This may take some time and may have to be done in several batches, depending on how far you've fallen behind. Basically, keep going back to Windows Update until it stops offering you new updates.
After the updates have been installed, restart the PC one more time (in order to ensure that any pending installs requiring a restart have been resolved).
Now try another iTunes install. Does it go through without the 0x80070424 this time?

  • Itunes install fails on windows vista

I had done an update to iTunes some time ago. It failed. I tried all the methods to fix it and in the end removed iTunes, Quicktime, etc. I have removed the programs. deleted the directories and cleaned the registries of the misc entries (using RegCure) rebooting in between each step.
the exact message is "Service 'iPod Service' (iPod Service) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.
I only have one user made on the machine - which is of course admin. I have tried changing ownership and permissions on the iPod directory after it is created all to no avail.
Please just don't link the the "remove iTunes from a windows vista machine" thread. I have run the MS cleanup utility also. I have tried all kinds of things people have suggested and so far none have worked. PLEASE help me.

I had used msconfig and aggressively turned off startups and services. I had not done it after a fresh uninstall and cleanup and reboot though. Just the reboot as part of applying the changes made and trying to reinstall iTunes. I had just completed that to no avail.
So what I just tried was as follows:
    1. Uninstalled all Apple software including QuickTime, Bonjour, Software Updater and Mobile Device Support using the Apple guide.
    2. Rebooted.
    3. Ran RegCure to remove misc registry entries no longer associated with iTunes, etc.
    4. Ran MS Installer Cleanup Wizard.
    5. Deleted any remaining Apple directories in c:\Program Files.
    6. Rebooted.
    7. Ran msconfig and aggressively deselected startups and services. Ensured iTunes and iPod where selected. Ensured selective startup was selected.
    8. Rebooted.
    9. Downloaded and reinstalled iTunes.
    10. Received the same failure notices - the failed to start one and if i tried to start the iPod service manually through the service manager, failed to respond in a timely manner message. The events log for the iTunes install error is "A timeout was reached (30000 milliseconds) while waiting for the iPod Service service to connect." and the event log for the manual start from the service manager attempt is: "The iPod Service service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion."
    11. Changed permissions for all entries in the permissions list to full control.
    12. Tried reinstall - failure.
    13. Took ownership of c:\program files\ipod directories and files.
    14. Tried reinstall - failure.
    15. To make sure I tried the install two times - once with my iPod connected and once without.
    16. Wrote this entry in the forums.
Previously I had tried the new admin user you had suggested.

  • ITunes will not work on Fresh INstall of Vista x64 SP1

I have a strange issue. I have a Windows Vista x64 with SP1 (Yes the DVD is a production DVD from Microsoft not a slip stream copy.) and I wanted to do a fresh install of Vista with SP1. Reinstalled OS and everything is running great but iTunes. When I start iTunes I get this error message about "mssip32.dll" being damaged or corrupt please reinstall the app. So I looked around good old Google and apple.com. I found several fixes about re-registering a set of dll files. So did them all, no change. Reinstalled Vista from scratch again, no change. So for the heck of it I reinstalled Vista with no SP1 installed and then applied SP1 and it works fine. I reinstalled Vista with SP1 and have been running it for over a week and everything on the system is tested and solid as a rock with no issues. The only program that will not work is iTunes. I have also tried all the way back to version 7.4 and no luck.
    Any ideas on this?
