Booting FCP Studio in different computer from cloned drive

Search was not my friend.
I have a cloned drive of my MBP. I booted it on a Macbook Air to see if, and how well, Motion would run on an Air. FCP and Motion asked for serial numbers. I input them correctly, but was alerted that it was an invalid license. It is not an invalid license.
Is this because I'm attempting this on an Air? Or because I simply can't run FCP or Motion from a cloned disk on a computer that it wasn't registered on?
Thanks for any brilliance.

If you're getting a serial number error message, then it's just about the serial number and not the fact that you're trying to run it on a MacBook Air (that's another issue entirely).  Remember when you enter a 1 (number 1) it could be an I (uppercase i) and an 0 (zero) could be an O (uppercase o).

  • How can I transfer my old music files to my new iPod using a different computer from that used on the old iPod?

I got a brand new iPod and wanted to put the music files on my old iPod to the new one. In addition to this I would like to know how to sync my new iPod to a different computer from that of the old one. Is it possible for me to accomplish all this with music rescue?

Put everything on one computer and sync to that computer.

  • Downloading online content (extra titles, menus, etc) to a different computer from where Premiere Elements 13 is installed

Can you download online content (extra titles, menus, etc) to a different computer from where Premiere Elements 13 is installed, and then transfer it to the offline computer where PE13 is installed?
I purchased a new computer and installed Premiere Elements and Photoshop Elements 13 while I had the computer connected to the internet.  I no longer have the computer online, so can I download the extra content to a different computer, then transfer it to the offline computer where Premiere Elements and Photoshop Elements are installed?
Thank you very much for your time.

The Content download is only from within the opened project/program (disc menu display - customization area) and requires an Internet connection.
When it comes to Content download, you should be able to transfer the Online Folder (with all its content already downloaded) on computer 1 to a USB Flash Drive and use that USB Flash Drive for the replacement of the existing Online Folder in computer 2. Please see details...
    http://www.atr935.blogspot.com/2013/05/pe11-no-content-disc-content-downloads.html
This all depends on the content in Online Folder from computer 1 being downloaded from within the program. All the blue bans in the upper right corner of the display thumbnails gone before transferring Online Folder from computer 1 to USB Flash Drive.
Please let me know if you have further questions on the above or need any clarification.
    Thank you.

i just had a new hard drive installed. After loading everything back on my computer from external drive, i came to the "select wireless network screen. I've misplaced the WEP password for my internet. Is there anyway to find it on another computer?

Maybe. What kind of other computer are you talking about? What operating system is it running? What kind of wireless router are you using?
Your best bet may be to just reset the router and set it up again.
Just so you know, WEP is a very old security system for wireless and is considered insecure. If you have it available, use WPA2.

  • Working on a mix on a different computer from the FCP project.

    Hi,
I'd like to know the best way to work on a different computer with a multitrack project sent from final cut.
Marking Collect Audio Files will do the trick?
    thanks in advance!

A third option is having the movie on an iBook or PowerBook and use Firewire Target Disk Mode at school:

  • How to transfer to computer from flash drive?

I've installed the flash drive and it appears on Finder. I've been told that just need to select all and copy and paste. But I have no idea how to do that.Sorry for the novice question.

It sounds like your flash drive is formatted as NTFS? (A Mac can not write to these).
Plug it back in, highlight its desktop icon and press ⌘I.
Then look where the resulting window says Format.
Windows usually uses either FAT32, exFAT or NTFS. A Mac can only natively read and write the FAT variants.
If that is the case copy everything from the drive to a temporary location on your Mac and reformat the flash drive, (if you have any individual files over 4GB in size you'll need exFAT). Once formatted check with a PC that it's all good before deleting your temporary files.

  • Installing FCP on a different computer

I quickly (but too late) realized that a MacBook is not really up to FCP, so have decided to get a Pro. Can I install the FCP (Academic version) on the new machine if I wipe it off the old? Will there be id recognition issues? Licensing issues?

Thanks, drew. I should have been more clear that I am going from a MacBook to a MacBook Pro, so if there were any issue, it would be with having it on two notebooks. But, as you noted, my intention is to have it on only one computer in the end.
To be clear: is it true that irrespective of any limitations on number of computers I am allowed to have with a single copy of FCP at any given time, I should be ok if I have it on only one computer at any time, even if it was once on another computer. Is that hopelessly confusing?

  • Fcp studio importing different size frames

    Hello All,
    here is my workflow:
I imported a clips from an ipad and iphone...
i converted clips in compressor to apple prores 422 lt
I did not realize until after all was done (rookie mistake) that some clips were 24fps and some were 30fps and some were
1080x1920 and some were 720x1280  I thought they were all the same coming from ipad and iphone?
my titles i made in photoshop at 720x640
everything looked good upon export as a quicktime movie...
then i made a droplet in compressor to convert my quicktime file for youtube...
upon viewing in youtube my video was stretched out.....
anyone know if my first issued was my size of my clips imported?
do i have to do this whole thing all over again?
    thanks

    Hey Nick,
Thankyou sooo much for your response...  this is what I have
motion files     960x720  I just went with default settings not thinking about frame size in my fcp timeline
    ipad video      1080x920
    iphone video   720 x1280
photoshop      720 x 640 your right.. I do not know how I came up with this..I don't know what I was thinking?  This on I can fix in photoshop.
I am guessing that when I transcoded in compressor that the fps changed on me?
So I have the most of  720x1280 clips
intended delivery method... youtube  (is that what you meant?)
Thank you  Thank you  Thank you

  • How can I use a different computer from the one on which the initial setup was run for my iphone 3gs?

I would like to use my new MacBook to manage the information on my iphone.
Attempts to use any other computer other than the original one used in the initial setup generates a message that warns me that everything on the iphone will be erased? How can I back up the information and switch to the MacBook?

Copy your entire iTunes folder to your new computer (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527).  Then carefully follow the steps in wjosten's post here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/13356770#13356770.

  • Boot older G3/9.1 not from hard drive or CD?

I have an old ibook G3 w/ OS 9 whose hard drive crashed and the CD drive doesn't work, so can't book from a CD. I want to use my ibook g4 (w/ Mac OS X 10.3.9) to try to read and get files off of the hard drive. (Either boot the old computer using my newer ibook or just try to read the older hard drive from the newer ibook.) The G3 ibook doesn't have firewire of course - I can't connect via ethernet and boot could I?
Any other options? Could I boot from a flash drive (would be older USB 1)? Could I boot from an ipod over USB?
    Any ideas? Thanks!!!

    jbal77...
Sorry, but you lost me on the rational of using another computer to read a crashed drive? Doesn't dead mean dead?
You need some recovery service for the crashed drive not another computer. Also monkeying with a bad drive makes it less likely for successful recovery.
You didn't mention the "order" of failures with the CD and HD. If they both went at the same time there could be other mechanical issues such as the ATA controller that interfaces the 2 may of went bad. That may mean the possibility of a bad logic board.
I think you would be better helped by some professional that can get a hands on look to see what exactly is bad. I also would refrain from trying to interface a bad computer with a good one, as you may end up with 2 dead computers in the process.

  • MacBook Pro crashes on FCP X while seeking files from External Drive

I use FCP X and my MacB Pro crashes trying to load from my Passport w/ 5400rpm. How about firewire or the 7200 rpm. HD on Mac is not large enough and I need 2 to 3 Tb external for large video files.
         What are my alternatives?
Also is my MacBook 3.0 USB compatible. How do I tell. I searched the specs with no answer there.

If your MBP has had a kernel panic. log and post it for review.

  • Why do we need to have a observer run on the different computer

    Hello team,
Why do we need to have a observer run on the different computer and how to install & confgure it on that different computer.?pls help
    5.5.6 Managing the Observer
The observer is integrated in the DGMGRL client-side component and runs on a different computer from the primary or standby databases and from the computer where you manage the broker configuration. The observer continuously monitors the fast-start failover environment to ensure the primary database is available (described in Section 5.5.2.1). The observer's main purpose is to enhance high availability and lights out computing by reducing the human intervention required by the manual failover process that can add minutes or hours to downtime.
    Thanks

    Thanks Aman,
Do we need a same db binary & OS version for starting the observer on the different computer ?? here the primary & standby are liunx.
    Thanks in advance..
Regards,it does not have to be on the same platform or operating system on which the databases reside, and it does not need Oracle EE and an instance (which means no extra license).
    To configure check this.

  • I want to buy FCPX but I'd like to know if my FCP studio will stay in my computer                            does not disappear from my computer. Like it happened when I bought Motion 5. Motion 4 disappeared

I would like to know why Motion 4 disappeared from my system when I bought Motion 5. I want to buy FCPX and I don't know if m going to happen the same with my FCP 7 and Compressor 4. Please let me know if I can have both applications in my system.
    Thank you

The answer is definitely – you can have them on the same system.
Most easily done when FCS apps are already installed when the new generations of FCP, Motion, etc are downloaded from the App Store. The download and install process puts the FCS apps in a folder to isolate them…but they're still useable. Only restriction is you can't have both open at the same time.
So look for a FCS folder in Applications,

  • FCP Studio 2 on snow leopard software icons disapeard from Aplications folders

After finishing a video project in FCP 6.0.6, and exporting it as a QT mov. file, the next step would be to compress it in order to burn a dvd.
When I looked for Compressor in the application folders it wasn´t there anymore! Tryed Digital Rebellion´s Compressor repair, but nothing happened...
    And reinstalled Compressor...
A week ago, something similar happened but this time it was Final Cut Pro´s icon that had changed and did not boot with the message it could be damaged , this happening after compressing a project witch I was able to burn.
Tried Disk Warrior, it found nothing on this, Trashed preferences, final cut pkg files and reinstall Final Cut Pro, who seems to be working well now.
When I Get Info from the changed FCP icon, it stated it happened at 3:44 AM , an this is the console log in that day and time:

Sorry to bother with all this, it is probably my fault, somewhere, but I don´t get it and need to have my job done urgently...
Propably reinstalling all FCP Studio 2 ?

backup project and all other work files
clean install Mac OS (this wipes the hard drive clean)
install from installation discs FCP Studio
    reinstate the project files
