Border around photo

How do you put a simple 1 pt. border around a picture or graphic in Photoshop Elements 10?

Cyndy,
After you have finished editing, place a blank layer at the top of the stack of layers in the layers palette
Go to Select>all
Then, go to Edit>Stroke(outline) selection. In the dialog enter the width for the stroke, the color, position it inside.

  • Getting rid of white border around photos when using iphoto to iweb

    Hi there,
Am creating web pages in iweb and importing photos from iphoto. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of the white border around my photos (image frame)? Hoping to enhance some of the templates with my own images. I also have photoshop elements and have been having the same problem there. Sure appreciate. Kim Strouble

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The link to the site is broken. There is a fix for some of the strange goings on since the MobileMe conversion. See Wyodor's post in this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1605665&tstart=0. After applying the fix to iWeb I found I might have to republish a second time, occasionally a third and make sure I cleared my browser's cache.
If you're using Firefox 3 that's a different solution that can be found here: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7486799#7486799
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Finder List View and White Border around photo image files (icon preview)

Hey everyone, just curious if anyone knows how to remove the stripes from list view in the finder window? I tried a method that worked for Leopard but no luck with Snow. And for photos, the icon previews have real thick white borders around them, can these be removed (or at least inverted)? They are so distracting when looking through hundreds of images...
    Thanks,
    Jason

I just found an app that will get rid of the white borders and preserve the original date in the photo's EXIF data. It is CocoThumbX and can be downloaded from http://www.stalkingwolf.net/software/cocothumbx/.

  • How do I print multiple (4) photos on one page with a border around each?

How do I print multiple photos on one page with a border around each? I've gone the contact sheet route and adjusted the number of columns but there's only outer margins and very little white space between the photos down the middle of the page.

    Ok, now I feel stupid! I always thought I was printing 6 x 4 but now I realise I can't have done!!
The photos that I used to print are approx. 5.2" x 4" (i.e. 4 fitted nicely on a page & I had to cut the boarder off).
I guess I just need to play with different sizes under the 'custom' option in order to get the biggest possible picture!
    Thanks for the help

I am making a graduation video for my cousin using Final Cut Pro. I have photos layered over videos, and I was wanted to find out how you can add a border around the photos so they stand off of the video. Anyone know what I could do?

You would need an image editor to edit the images and add a border to the image first before importing them into Final Cut.
Cheapest and very good image editor?
    PIxelmator.
Located in the Mac App Store. $14.99 USD.
Here is the Pixelmator website to give you an overview of the app.

I am doing some photo restoration. I have a very very high res image that I want to print out at 4x6 and 8.5x11. I need it to have an even white border around it.
How can I do this in Photoshop CS5.5? I try to import it into inDesign it the dimensions don't mesh with the border. Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

If you want to add the border to the image iteself you could use Image > Canvas Size to increase it accordingly.

  • How do I put a property line border around ariel photo of a property?

I'm trying to put a red border around a property in an black and white ariel photo. I can do it with the pencil tool but I want to do it point to point for straight lines?

    Butch, I agree with you.
I prefer to utilize the line tool because it facilitates color selection for the outline, which Hank needs, and also there is a style selection option. In addition, as one uses the tool incremental layers are generated. If needed, one can then make adjustments with the move tool, or delete a layer and replace it with a correction.
Both get the job done - personal preference.

  • Is it possible to put a border around a photo, without opening in photoshop

I'm wanting to upload a web gallery. I've imported a load of imagines and want to put a border around them before uploading. I know how to do this in photoshop and will if necessary sort them all out that way and re-create iPhoto events to be uploaded - however there must be a way of producing a border without doing this. Any help much appreciated!

    happy kayaker
Not in iPhoto, there isn't. However, there's no need to recreate the Events to be uploaded if you set PS as an external editor.
You can set Photoshop as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop, and when you make your changes ands save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically.

  • How to add a Border around an ImageView

    Hi all,
I'm adding a row of photos in my application which are being resized to fit into some constrained space with Preserve Ratio true. They are put in a TilePane, with a Label below each photo.
Basically, I give all my ImageViews a fitHeight of 120 pixels, and let them determine how wide they will become themselves in order to preserve the ratio.
    It looks great.
However, I would like to add a Border around these images, as they sometimes fade too much into the background to clearly see the edges. ImageViews themselves donot support borders, so I'm forced to wrap these ImageViews inside another container.... but, no matter what container I use, the container itself refuses to resize itself to fit exactly around the image -- it seems to be completely oblivious of the real size of the Image -- with some parameters the ImageView will simply render itself outside the edges of its container, and with other parameters the container is wider than the ImageView leaving a gap on the right side.
This is yet another instance where I want my ImageViews to resize themselves to fit the available space, resulting in a huge struggle to force these components into their proper straight-jacket. Anyone got any solutions for this?

I'm afraid that also won't work, as the Image needs to be scaled, and the dimensions you are using are from the unscaled image.
I've however am now using this class to get what I want, together with a stylesheet to specify the border it works and I get nice borders.

  • White Border Around Template Images

I recently created a "page layout" document from a template. This is my first attempt to use a template and it was all going well. Until I hit "print." When I print the document, the images that were already part of the template are printing with a white border around them. It looks fine in Pages and when I go to Print Preview, but it comes off the printer looking funny. What's the deal?

Thanks for the clarification. I had a hard time selecting that white border around the photos. I couldn't even figure out what it was for awhile. I think the printing problem is related to that white border which is an image, photoBG_triple.png, that is behind the photos & their masks & on top of the lined paper image, notepaper.png. I think all that layering looks nice on screen or PDF, but could be a printing nightmare. How does it look funny? And what kind of printer are you using?

  • Problem with white border around images

    Hey guys,
I'm new to the creative suite and have just finished running through all of the video tutorials, etc. I'm having a small problem which can be seen in the sample site I'm fooling around with here:
    http://www.andrewedunn.com/gsd/
I'd like to get rid of the small white border around the "GS" logo. It is an illustrator document.
Basically I put the letters in place, converted them to paths (so I can resize it) and dropped it in my GoLive document as a smart object.
A google such suggested rasterizing, but I couldn't get it to work after fooling with it a little bit.
Further, if I wanted to add a drop shadow to it, how can I do it so that it is transparent on top of the background images in golive? The one time I tried it, the drop shadow was placed on top of a white background.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Are your background images always going to be displayed left-aligned on a black background and always the same size, so that the left half of the logo will always be over the photo and the right half will always be over the black? Or will the size or placement of the photos vary?
Are all of the photographs in approximately the same moderate tonal range, or will some be bright and some dark?
If the background will be consistently as you show it, you should be able to anti-alias your logo against a medium gray on the left and black on the right for acceptable results. If the background is more varied, you are not going to get good results with either GIF or JPG format.
    See this related thread:
    http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx/.3bc38b6e/3
    > Further, if I wanted to add a drop shadow to it, how can I do it so that it is transparent on top of the background images in golive?
Only by exporting as a transparent PNG, but then older browers won't display it properly.
If you are really needing to have a logo that casts transparent drop shadows on top of a wide variety of images, you might consider going the Flash route, even though you aren't planning animation. Flash has very good transparency handling, and there are Flash player plugins that are compatible with browsers that won't display PNG images.

  • IPhoto adds ugly black border around imported screen grabs

When I grab a picture of an application screen (using cmd + shift + 4 and then hitting the space bar over the application), I get a screen grab that opens fine in Preview, but when I drag/import it to iPhoto, it adds an ugly thick black border around the whole picture. Why? Is there any way to stop this from happening?

    Old Toad wrote:
Missed the Command....... I have used that command and don't get the border except when viewing the file as an thumbnail in the Finder.
Do you have a MMe account? If so upload the screenshot file to the Pictures folder and use the following code to add it to a post:
You'll get this: Click to View Photo. It's a screenshot of the screenshot and it's presentation in Safari.
So, I can see immediately from the photo in the link above that you have not used the key combi I am talking about - was that intentional?
Anyway, here's the link, and you can quite clearly see the drop shadow.

  • Export from FCE to iDVD, results in black border around movie

    Here is the problem....
I have edited a movie in FCE where all of the footage is 1440 x 1080
I export it using: File -> Export... QuickTime movie
I choose "self contained" movie and "audio/video", plus "chapter markers" in the pop up menu.
I then take this into iDVD amd all looks ok in the preview, but once burnt to DVD, there is a large black border around the entire movie.  It is almost like it is a smaller movie which does not fill the screen correctly.
Any idea why this happens and how to overcome this. When I lok at the exported movie from FCE- it is 720-x576 and not the full size- is this the problem?
    Thanks for any tips.

    Hi
    Is it widescreen ?
Did You in Your browser window set sequence and material to anamorphous. To me it was a revelation that the Browser window was exstendably to the right with lot's of columns - and one of them was Anamorphous.
Did you start a WideScreen project in iDVD - First window that opens after You clicked Start a New iDVD project (top button). At bottom this new window You set 4:3 (SD format) or 16:9 for WideScreen.
In iDVD You also need to go up to Project and down to Projectinfo
then set 16:9 here TOOO !
Proportion - Change it to 16:9

    • Encoding
    • Brand and type of DVDs used

    • Chapters
How to go from FCE/P to iDVD I do
    • Disable Screen and Energy saver
    • IMPORTANT --> FIRST in FinalCut - Mix Down Audio under Sequence Menu / Render Only / Mix-down
    • Export out as a QuickTime .mov file
    • Select with Mark - Chapter Mark
    • Not as Self-Contained (not important but saves time and space)
    • NO QUICKTIME CONVERSION (IMPORTANT)
This QT.mov file I import into iDVD from within iDVD.
Free space on Start-up hard disk
I set a minimum of 25GB (for Mac OS and iDVDs temp files)
    Encoding
    • I use Pro Quality encoding
Brand and type of DVDs used ( Important as cheap brands DO NOT WORK )

Import this into a new Movie-project and now You are free to set C-Ms where You want
them except at very beginning - still)
    Material used to build movie
    • video - I use streamingDV (or convert all other to this e.g. .mp4, .avi, .wmv etc)
    • audio - I use .aiff 16-bit 48kHz or from Audio-CD (44.1kHz) - no .mp3 or direct from iTunes
    • photos - I use .jpg - no .bmp etc
Problems - then Trash iDVD pref. file and run Repair Permissions - and have a re-try.
    from post ??
May not be relevant, but I had the same problem with iDVD, where burned DVDs showed a green screen. It was cured by quitting Quicksilver and Quickeys as well as disabling sleep and screen-saving

  • White borders around photos with IOS7

Since updating to IOS7, why do my photos have white borders around them even in landscape? I have looked in settings and anywhere I can think of and can not fined a way to get rid of it. This has to be something that I am overlooking. Any help is appreciated!
It doesn't matter if the picture is taken in portrait or landscape, it has a thick white border around the picture.

No, the white borders do not appear in iWeb. As far as the browser, sometimes I can export the site and it renders fine, other times the white borders appear.
Like I said before, the graphics with the borders aren't consistent. Different fraphics have the white border if I re-publish the site to a folder.
Please note... unlike other questions posted in this topic, my white lines do not disappear when the page is loaded. They stay there... and ONLY on the index page.
