Bose QC3 Headphone Modification a piece of cake

The Bose QC3 has a small rubber ring area just at the top edge of the connection pin. Took an exacto knife and cut around this ring down to the metal pin, then a sidewise cut so it could be removed. That ring seemed to be exactly the right amount of rubber that needed to be removed. Jack fits snuggly into phone. (For what its worth, these headphone's EQ has always been a bit bottom heavy and treble light, so I'm using the "treble Boost" EQ setting.)

No. The Bose headphones use the standard 3.5 mm stereo plug and should work without problems. I would carefully compare  the plug of the Bose headphones with those a of a pair of headphones that do work.

I am using Bose AE2 headphones. The music quality is far superior when I listed on a PC than on the isphone5. Also, the volume is also considerably less. Is it something that I am doing wrong.

There are quite a few possibilities.
The quality difference may simply be the lower volume. Hearing is not linear with volume.
How much power do the headphones require? Possibly your computer can provide greater power output than the iPhone.
Some Bose headphones have a volume compensation switch somewhere. On my QC3 its on the adapter plug at the headphone end. You have to unplug it from the headphones to find it.
Do you have volume limits enabled in the iPhone settings/Music?
Are the equalization settings the same on your computer and your iPhone?
Do you have Sound Check enabled on music that is synced to the iPhone?
Have you checked "Convert higher bit rate songs..." in iTunes on your computer?

  • What is the best iTunes Equalizer settings for Bose QC15 Headphones?

What is the best iTunes Equalizer settings for the Bose QC15 Headphones? An image of those settings would be great.

I'm a bit of an audio geek, so I can tell you that YES whatever sounds right is what you want, but NO those settings are not very good. The general setting is "OK" but the values are extremely out of range. Take that setting and reduce the distance between the sliders and you're getting there. Look for example at how the other iTunes presets are made, the don't go that far from the horizontal middle, and for good reason.
When you play a recorded song, the song has usually been put through an extensive process of mixing, EQ and mastering before you got it, in order to get the best balance of all frequencies, to ensure the best sound accross a wide range of speakers and headphones, and to ensure the most important details and instruments are audible when played together.
All speakers are different, and that's where the idea of an EQ for the listener is introduced. The idea is to tweak the overall sound from your music player (iTunes) to compensate for the strengths and weaknesses of your speakers. Which to be honest, is a bit much to expect form a typical music consumer.
The iTunes EQ has a set of horizontal lines representing 3dB (volume steps) each. In my experience you should not boost or cut more than 6 db at the most - and that's a lot! I stay at around 0-4dB. The extreme options are there to cut noise from bad recordings or emphasize a detail you can't hear very well.
    So here's basic EQ lesson:
The EQ represents the range frequencies in sound that the human ear can hear. Actually they go beyond that - most people cannot hear the far left and right frequencies. The range of frequencis start at "deep" or "low" frequencies at the left (bass) passing through the Midrange (midtones) in the center, to the (treble) at the right.
Your speaker has a limit to how many frequencies it can play at once before it starts to lose detail - meaning one sound will drown out in order to make room for another. So don't over-EQ your sound or it'll ruin it.
    How to tweak an EQ:
    1) Start by playing a well-produced piece of modern music  - it'll most likely be well mixed and employ a wide range of frequencies. I'm into heavy metal but for this I'd probably go with some average pop music, because metal is so noisy it gets hard to pick out the details.
    2) Set you EQ to FLAT - zero all accross the board. It'll sound pretty flat and boring unless your speakers are very "flavoured" or "colored" already.
Sliding any of the EQ bar up, will increase or boost the volume of the frequency the bar represents. You can't really add frequencies that aren't there already - you're just adding noise in that freqeuncy and that will "fill up" the available frequencies on your speaker, causing that "drowned out" effect I was talking about.
Instead, slide them down from the center, and you're cutting the volume instead. This is better because it'll leave more "room" for the other frequencies. You can always use the Preamp slider at the end if you're worried about loudness (but I wouldn't).
    3) Start by tweaking the 500 and 1K slider. This represents the middle of your ears' range of hearing and the most noticable change. It should most likely go downwards - this will take the "canned" sound out of your music and that'll be apparent quickly. Go ahead and slide that down as far as -6dB.
    4) Now work outwards from the center forming a "v" shape, where the top tips of the V end at the 64 slider and the 8k slider. The very far left and right sliders (32 and 16K) should dip down again to about 0bB. Trust me, these are almost non-important in most music. You can tweak thos last if you feel it's needed.
    5) now it's time to start playing round with the V shape. Go ahead and try sliding the sliders a little up or down between 125-250 and 1K to 4K. You may find that some need to move a lot out of the average "V" shape before the sound is good. This is what my iTunes EQ settings ended up looking like for my Motörheadphones "Motorizer" headphones:
    Hope it helps.

  • Bose Mie2i headphones not working

Hi - I have an iPhone 4s and a pair of Bose mie2i headphones. All has been good today until i plugged in the headphones, played a song and the sound came through the phones speakers rather than the headphones. Have tried plugging and unplugging the headphones, switching the phone on and off and even doing a settings reset - no joy. The only way of getting the sound to come through the headphones is to hit play on the song and then quickly push the in line mic on the headphones.
    Any ideas?
    Billy

I don't know about that particular product personally, but the Apple EarPod headphones work with 4th gen shuffle, but not the 3rd gen shuffle.
I Googled "Bose MIE2I manual" and found the PDF
    http://worldwide.bose.com/library/assets/pdf/guides/headphones/mie2i_headset/en/ owg_en_mie2i_headset.pdf
It says the 3rd gen shuffle IS compatible.  But the compatible list looks somewhat dated...

  • Bose bluetooth headphones pairing issue

I have an iPhone 5 32Gb and an iPad 3 32Gb.  I had both running iOS 7.1 and my Bose Bluetooth headphones worked exactly as they should.  One of the great features of these is that they can pair to the iPhone and iPad at the same time, meaning that I can watch a video on my iPad and when the iPhone rings, it rings through the headphones and pauses the video.
Since upgrading both devices to iOS 7.1.1, I can only pair to one of them at a time.  Let's say that I am paired to my iPad, but now want to use my headphones to listen to music on my iPhone.  I now have to go into Bluetooth on my iPhone, have it forget the Bose headphones and then repair.  If I want to go back to my iPad, I have to go through the same process for the headphones to work on that device.
Has anyone else come across this issue?  From briefly looking at this forum, Apple seems to have made a mess of Bluetooth in this iOS release.  Any ideas on a fix?

I actually did both iPhone and iPad tethered to iTunes. I favour doing this instead of OTA.  The iPhone was a replacement from Apple and immediately updated through iTunes to iOS 7.1.1.
@Peter Gillespie, are you using an iPhone and iPad with your AE2?

  • IMac: How to use internal built-in microphone when Bose mic-headphones are plugged?

    Hi there,
I use my  Bose AE2 for Lync conferences in my iMac, but the problem is that, when the headphones are plugged I seem "obliged" to use their  made for iPhone/Mac mic.
The problem is that, however, the sound through this Bose's mic is terrible so the others in the conference can't properly hear me. So I just want to use the internal computer's mic, and it seems not possible when the headphones are plugged.
In that situation, Sys Preferences > Sound > Input, only shows "External microphone" and "Line in".
Meaning, what normally is "Internal microphone" automatically, when plugged, turns into "External microphone" and that's it. It's not possible to use the internal mic anymore if mic headphones are plugged.
Do you know any way to workaround this?
My OS is 10.6.8 (it's work's iMac), but I'm afraid this is not different in 10.9.X.
    Many thanks in advance!

Hi, I plug in the headphones set with a regular  headphones jack plug. They don't go with USB.
    Thanks for answering

  • Bose bluetooth headphones jumping on music

i have just bought a pair of Bose sound link bluetooth headphones for use with iphone 6 but they have an annoying habit of jumping during songs, maybe once twice or more during one song maybe not at all. It only hapens with music player and not on utube, Amazon instant or on any other Bluetooth device including when I turn Bluetooth of on phone and plug a Bluetooth transmiter in and play music through that. It's doing my head in, Bose can't explain it. Help me please someone.

  • IPad no longer pairing with Bose bluetooth headphones

I have a iPad  with iOS 8.2. Suddenly I am not able to connect to my headphones. I rebooted the iPad but still no luck. I am able to connect the headphones to my Blackberry so do not think problem is with headphones. Will appreciate any help.

Make sure that the headphones are put into "Discovery Mode" before trying to connect. Check the user guide for the headphones.

  • Multi-angle is piece of cake, mixed angle is too much of a headache

When Keith Buckner asked me "Can you take that off?" (referring to the 3D soundscaping footage in the left half of the split screen in the Music of Engineering DVD), it gave me an idea: give a little usefulness to the Angle button by allowing viewers to see just the live concert footage or just the soundscaping footage. But I decided to do it just for Keith's piece, +Kinetic Energy+.
The DVD Studio Pro manual made it sound like I can just drop them on the timeline. But as y'all can already predict, a ton of GPO error messages ensued. Then I decided to make it a separate special feature, exporting the two angles and the sound as three separate files each lasting 5:26.65. Put them together in the timeline, change the targets of the relevant menu buttons, and everything ran smoothly. I didn't have to worry about I, B or P frames one bit, DVD Studio Pro took care of everything.
I wonder if DVD Studio Pro has a blade tool like Final Cut, and I'm certain it is possible to make mixed angle work. But I'm happy with the two separated angles being a special feature by themselves. Though I have yet to talk to Keith and ask him what he thought of it.

  • Bose MIE2i headphones stopped working with IOS5

They we're working just fine before the upgrade, now the volume and track choosing does not work, the music plays during phone calls  but the microphone works OK.  I don't think anyone will have an answer until Apple sorts out the software (but I am hoping)  but I have now lost heaps of the utility I need from the phone.

I eventually found the problem for me.  The Bose controls are very sensitive to moisture and it was sweat from wearing them in summer or down the gym that was causing the problem.  I took two pairs back under warranty but the third I have protected with a bit of cling wrap everytime I go to the gym.  It looks ugly, is really inconvenient etc but I dont think many headsets would have waterproof controls.
When moisture gets in them all the things described above happen, buttons dont work, voice control comes onrandomly, it dials out to numerous people in the address book (at 2am in the morning that leads to calls back from concerned friends).
    hope this helps.

  • Piece of cake!

I have been watching the bounds for 2 days now and was getting worried about the IOS 5 update. Finally decided to risk it tonight since I figured the servers would get busy tomorrow with the new phone coming out. Updated my IPad first since I could live without it if I had to tomorrow and it updated without one problem!!! Got so confident that I decided to go ahead and update my iPhone 4 and the same results!
Maybe I just got lucky but I will take that any day.
Each update took about an hour each. All of my contacts and info from all my apps worked perfectly. The cloud seems to work great with calendars, notes, contacts etc. love the ability to make photo albums. I have a lot to learn but all is good.
Just thought I would give others some good news.
Hope everyone else has as good of luck.

same here mine went fine no real problem now come the hard part of figuring out how every thing works LOL

  • MacPro 8-core Leopard installed-Piece of Cake

Leopard upgrade installed fine. All my programs work fine. love it.
    Thanks Apple.

    So here's an update...
I tried once again reinstalling only booting without ANY audio drivers loaded. Still the same thing.
So I thought to myself: Hey, lets call the colleges in the other studios where I know they use Logic. I called 5 studios distributed over Germany (This is where Logic has it's broadest clientele. 3 of them said - "Since Logic 8 came out we had to switch to Protools. Another said" I had to switch to Digital Performer as Logic was just too slow and gave me NO performance compared to prior versions. The last one was still on Logic and as I asked him about the screen slowness he started breathing heavily. And said "This is killing me, Logic used to be so fast and now with every new version it gets slower and worse. I am tired of waiting and have already gotten quotes on a PT HD|2 system."
So it seems that I am NOT the only one thinking this is annoying. I called 5 studios who smiled at me 3 years ago when I left Logic as main DAW for PT... Today, they have or are about to switch to different DAWs.
That sums it up pretty much for - I am heading back to L7 - until I have converted my about 250 songs that I still need to produce. Then Logic will probably be removed from my CPU - unless of course they pull up some magic stunts from DAW bag of trix
Thanks to you who took the time to reply

  • Piece of cake to crash Essbase

Has anyone run a simple excel addin query, with text in 1 cell (merged or not) that exceeds 500 characters and have it run successfully? We have a problem in our 9.3.1 environment whereby retrievals on such queries cause the database to generate an XCP and restart. It is 100% reproducible and a pain in the *&^ to deal with. A very simple report that simply has a section labeled "Comments" will cause us so many headaches. Has anyone seen this and identified if a patch is available to address?
Oh, in ASO database - XCP is generated. In BSO database, Excel crashes but no XCP.
    Many thanks to you all.

If you can easily reproduce it have you raised an SR with Oracle, there have been a large number of fixes in 9.3.1 and maybe one of the patches address the issue you have.
    Cheers
