Bracket keys for increase/decrease on brush size don't update display settings - any workaround?

I’m a PS user new to Illustrator (CS6). In PS, using the bracket keys [] to increase/decrease brush point size will simultaneously update the data displayed in the tool panel at the top.
While I can use the bracket keys in Illustrator to change the appearance of the brush stroke, it is not being updated in the tool panel input or in the stroke window…so I can essentially have (2) 3 pt strokes created with the same brush that don’t visually match but whose display properties DO match. Because I will be doing lots of editing I certainly don’t want to work this way.
Is this just one of those glitchy things? Anyone know an alternate method that works?
TIA,
Kim

Hi Kurt-
Not the blob brush, just the basic 3 pt round paintbrush tool.

Eraser tool in Photoshop CS4 acts as if it is transparent when on brush or pencil mode. Block acts like its not transparent at all but there are no options for opacity, flow or brush size. Whats wrong and how to I make the brush and pencil eraser erase completely without having to go over it multiple times?
It started randomly about two weeks ago and I thought it was a glitch that would just go away. But now I am getting sick of using only the block eraser on one size. Help?

The easiest thing to start with is to reset the Eraser Tool.
Right click on the Eraser icon in the tool options bar and then click on Reset Tool.

I upgraded Elements but now it does not recognize Option key for Clone Stamp, Healing Brush etc.

Quit the editor, then relaunch it while holding down command+shift+option. Keep holding down the keys till you see a window asking if you want to delete the settings file. You do.
It wouldn't hurt to repair permissions, either.

  • Not able to set custom shortcut for increase/decrease brush size in Photoshop CC 2014 on Win 8

I am using Windows 8 and PS CC2014 and the issue is that I can't assign custom shortcut to the dot. I have been using , and . as decreasing and increasing brush size and it has worked well in every photoshop, even cc2014 in win7 but not in win8 it seems. It lets me to change the , and just tells me that it is in use in somewhere else but i can still change it. But I can't do the same with . as it complains it being used by an application although I have cleared that from the original place and left it empty, photoshop still recognizes it if I press it although it would be empty but I can't assign that key to anything else either.
Small thing but drives me crazy as I had to assign it to another keys and I am using the shortcuts from muscle memory mostly and end up changing the brush when I had an intention to increase the size. I tried to google this but couldn't find anything similar solution.

I didn't manage to get it to work :c Restart won't do anything and I tried to reset the preferences by deleting manually the file with keyboard shortcuts. I managed to get them to the factory settings but that was about it. Everytime I try to assign "." to somewhere (including to the place where it already is), it gives the red x and says "the shortcut is not valid. It is being used by another application." (not sure what it is in english exactly, I happen to have my PS in finnish unfortunately ). Plugin disabled mode did nothing either.
I have changed that shortcut many times to different versions earlier and this is first time I see that message or am not being able to change the shortcut. And I installed the photoshop yesterday from fresh and first thing I did was making the shortcuts and it gave the error from the first use.

  • Bracket keys for circle size

Why don't my bracket keys increase or decrease circle size in CS5.  All I get is a small plus sign.

Oooops!  Caps Lock!  Of course, that's what I was thinking of when I mindlessly wrote "make sure you don't have the Shift key locked", which is sheer nonsense.  Thanks for the timely correction, guru Cox.

  • Problem in Account Determination for Increase/Decrease in stock FG

When we procure bought out material from outside and inward the material in plant 4000 for the trading purpose then... the balance sheet FG account increases but the P&L inc/dec account of FG does not change although it decreases when the sell of this part takes place. Thereby creates extra figure. But the same works fine for my 1000 Plant it updates both the Balance Sheet FG Account and P&L Inc/Dec Account for FG
Now .. what can be done to solve this problem.

    Hi,
    Please check the Following path.
IMG > Logistics - General > Material Master > Basic Settings > Material Types > Define Attributes of Material Types
In this node, check whether the valuation area 4000 permits Value update to GL Master record. Please check your relevant material type.

  • Liquify brush size increment sluggish with CS3, Intuos 3/window 7

    Hi
I have encountered a strange problem with liquify filter using Intuos 3 tablet pen after installing CS3 on my new Window 7 machine.
I always assign the shortcut keystrokes [ and ] to the pen buttons for increaseing/decreaseing the brush size. In my old Vista computer, everything was all good, the brush size changes continously and quickly when i press the buttons. But now the brush size only changes an increment by 1 pixel (should be 10 pixels?) by clicking it once and it no longer increases or decreases the brush size continously by holding the button.
I thought it was Wacom drivers problems but i un-installed and re-installed their latest and oldest drivers and the problem remains. I wonder if it is CS3 glitch with Window 7? I have installed all Adobe updates for CS3. I would be very grateful to any advice.

It is Intuos driver problem. I downloaded the old Vista tablet driver to run on the Window 7 and problem  solved.

  • Photoshop Liquify Brush Size increase/decrease with alt+crtl drag don't work anymore...

    Hi :-)
I have installed the last Update to Photoshop CS6 13.0.4...
Now I can't increase/decrease the Brush Size in the Liquify-Dialog anymore (before I installed the update, it works fine with alt+crtl and drag)...
If I press alt+crtl, the "Cancel"-Button is shown as "Revert", but the Brush resizing don't work... :-/
    I use a Mac on OS X 10.6.8...
But it seems it has to do with the system... beacause at home I use 10.8.3 and there works everything fine with the 13.0.4 Update!!!

  • Changing brush size while erasing with adjustment brush.

I have search around and have been unable to locate the short cut keys to increase and decrease the brush size while erasing. I use the bracket keys to change the brush size for the brush itself, but when I press the alt key to switch to the eraser, I can't figure out any short cut keys for changing the size of the eraser. It works to go over to the panel, but that is a pain. There must be a short cut for this. Thanks, Eric

That's what I was afraid of. Hopefully in the next version. Thanks, Eric

  • Change brush  sizes using [  ] too slow

I've recently swapped from Windows to Mac and I'm glad to be on Mac now. But whenever I'm changing brush sizes using the bracket keys the response time is way to slow.. I search the forum but found nothing on this. anyone have a fix for this..
Running Leopard with OS 10.5.4 three internal harddrives and 10 gigs ram.
All updates and patches were installed prior to photoshop.
    Machine is one week old.

I completely remove Photoshop and did a clean install. Before changing anything I opened an image and tried increasing and decreasing my brush size using the bracket keys and everything was fine. The brush changes as soon as you hit the bracket key.
But as soon as you highlight the info palette top right corner and make it active then come back over the picture and try changing the brush size I'm getting a one second delay. If I hit the bracket key three times quickly the brush completely disapears and then reapears at the appropriate size.
This is a clean install with no plugins, no new fonts, no new nothing.
I then downloaded the latest upgrades.. Reset disk permission, ran the chron scripts and I'm getting the exact same reaction from photoshop when attempting to change brush size with the bracket keys.
Can anybody else reproduce this buy highlighting the info palette??
I called a buddy who also recently purchased a new Mac Pro and his machine is doing the exact same thing.

  • CS6 brush size keyboard shortcut?

Just started working a bit with the CS6 beta. I'm used to CS5.1 where I can use the ' * ' key to increase / 'SHIFT' + ' * ' to decrease the brush size which does not work in the CS6 beta (Mac).
So: What's the new keyboard shortcut to change the brush size?

Check to see if they are still set in the Keyboard Shortcuts window.
    Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts
    Select "Tools" from "Shortcuts For"
Scroll down until you see Increase/Decrease Brush Size.
That will allow you to set the shortcuts.
If that fails, you may want to reset preferences. http://forums.adobe.com/message/4209421#4209421

  • Brush size bug?

For the last three versions of Photoshop the shortcut keys [ ] for brush size stops working. Why is this not fixed??? The other shortcut that shows brush size in red just sucks.

I have had the same problem since, at least, CS 5.0.  ( did not upgrade to 5.5, but went directly to CS6).  The problem is not specific to Wacom tablets.  It can occur with both wireless and wired mice and, for me, has ocurred under both Win 7/64 and win 8/64.  Don't remember whether this was an issue with Vista, but I doubt that it is os-specific.  If it is an os issue, this would still be something for Adobe to resolve with the os vendor.  It is reasonable to expect CS5 and CS6 to work with Win 7 and it is reasonable to expect Photoshop CS6 to also work with Win 8.  The problem doesn't happen all the time.  In fact, it is unpredictible.  The workaround for me is to click at the top and change the brush size by dragging.  After that, the bracket keys work again, at least, until they don't.  I am not a Comcast subscriber and do not use Constant Guard or Norton.
I don't consider myself to be among the busiest users of Photoshop and believe that, if I have encountered the problem, then it is very likely that at least one other person has brought it to Adobe's attention.

  • Brush size

Although my question might seem silly, for some reason I cannot fix it. I am open to any suggestion.
I am using Photoshop CC on a Mac computer. Photoshop CC is up to date. The problem I am having is; for example if my brush size is 800px the active area in the brush is only 100-150px. I can't seem to be able to increase the active part of the brush. Any idea how to fix this issue?
Can someone email me the answer to [email protected]
    Thank you
    George

    Hi R_Kelly
Thanks for replying, I am using the latest version of OS X version 10.9.1
The brush hardness is set to 100%, if I increase or decrease the hardness the active area of the brush follows. Also, if I increase or decrease the brush size the active area of the brush increases and decrease accordingly. It's very small in the center.

  • Always display brush size in millimetres.

    Hello.
I know in the brush options panel you can enter a brush size in millimetres, but is there any way to permantly make it display the size in mm?
I need to know how thick some lines are in mm, and even after going to options and changing all diplay uints to mm, it still shows up as pts.
I've attached a picture of exactly what I'm referring to below.  (The "Size" field currently showing "15 pt". I need that area to display mm).
    Thanks a lot.

    Hi cofeebot3000,
It looks like this dialog is not honoring the gloabl preferences setting for Units. Can you please log a feature/enhancement request at https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform

  • Update Key for Target Data Store

    Hi all.
I have a little problem with a data integration scneario.
We have Progress as a target database for an ETL interface. The data structure is very old, and the tables does not have primary keys. It's not a good idea to create physical constraints for this old structure right now.
In order to use this database as the target I need to provide an update key for the tables. Since I don't have physical primary keys, I'd like to know if there's a way to provide only a "logical" update key for the purposes of the ETL.
    Thanks
    Denis

    Hi,
    A/ First solution:
To create one or more logical key:
1/ In constraint view of your datastore, click Add a key
2/ In the box, give a name for your key
3/ In columns, choice columns for your key
To use it: in your interface, click on the target datastore and choice your key inthe datastore properties.
    B/ Second solution
Directly in your interface, click on your column. In properties, click on "Incremental key". The problem is that this key is specific to this interface.
