Brand new T530 issues. (Defective FHD panel/dead pixels)

Just received my T530 yesterday, and honestly I've got to say it's a great machine, but I have noticed a couple of minor problems with it, along with a factory defect.
1. The battery is too loose.
2. The keyboard has no caps lock indicator, yet the mute button has its own indicator (can't complain there)
I bought the FHD screen, which is absolutely exceptional, except for the fact that it has about 4 DEAD pixels on the middle right..
Also I bought this unit brand new on eBay, but my warranty status says it has expired before it ever started. What's up with that?
One final thing, when I opened up the box, the power adaptor, was in its own little compartment, unprotected, though it works fine, but is a little scratched, not sure if that's Lenovo's fault, or if the seller accidentally removed packing material when including the recepit/invoice.
Looks like I'll have to send this unit in, I assume Lenovo's warranty covers factory defects with the screen?
Thanks.

I ended up getting a full refund, and now I am ordering directly from Lenovo.
Thanks everyone!

And if you have this issue with a brand new (one week old) iMac? Do you also have to do al these things trying to fix it? Or does Apple take back the 'old' iMac and immediately changes this for a new one?

  • Brand New Vizio TV defect

On October 6, 2013 my husband and I bought a brand new Vizio LED Smart TV for $649.00.
The connector on the back of the TV where the Co Axial from the wall should be connected fell off when we tried to connect the TV.
We have been told by the store (Minnetonka) that we have to bring the TV in to the store for them to determine weather or not this can be fixed.  The TV was 7 days in our home when this process started.  We can get no assurance from Best Buy that this can be rectified.  We did nothing to cause this connection to fall off, only tried to connect the TV.
Am I missing something here, are we really supposed to bring the TV in without assurance that the broken co ax connector in the back of TV can be fixed and furthermore no assurance that we will not be charged for this?
We also contacted the manufacturer and they said it is the only part on the TV that is not covered by warranty!  Can this be right?
I am truly baffled at the way this is going and extremely disappointed in Best Buy's lack of interest in getting this resolved.

    Hello King4mim-
Thanks for reaching out to us!  It's always disappointing to have issues with such a new purchase, so I can understand your concern.  In cases like these we're unfortunately unable to make any guarantees prior to inspecting the unit, which is why you were advised to bring the TV to your local store.  However, although we can't make any guarantees that would be our best option for you at this point, so I would recommend for you to bring the TV to us at your earliest convenience.
    Thanks,

  • Brand New MBPr Issues From 1st Boot

    Morning all,
Just purchased the top of the range 15" MBPr, (1TB SSD 16GB RAM) and have had issues with it from 1st boot.
I'm hoping I can sort these (just switched from windows) as I will have to return it if not.
On 1st power on the setup ran and locked up for 30+ minutes when trying to enable the icloud drive.  It eventually completed, and after enabling FileVault (this was enabled by default) I had the issue where it kept asking for the power adapter to resume encryption even though it was plugged in.
I ended up calling Apple support who advised me, to erase the disk and reinstall OSX Yosemite from the recovery partition.
After waiting 4+ hours for the downloads to complete the reinstall had issues with drawing the pages, for example if I clicked back, the text on the page didn't change, but the dialog boxes did.  I ended up powering it off and restarting the setup which did go OK.  I have now enabled FileVault and sat babysitting it whilst it encrypted to ensure no issues.
I then installed the latest OSX update (10.10.1) and now shutdown takes a lot longer, the background greys out, and I get the spinning iPhone style icon (not the beach ball).
I'm really starting to lose confidence in the machine, and after spending over £2000 on it I feel it should be performing better.
Has anyone got any tips on what I do to improve things, or have they seen this before with a brand new clean build before I give up and return it?
    Thanks
    Darren

  • Brand New Airport Express-Green Light Wireless, Dead Green Wired

I just bought a brand-new airport express device. I have a cable modem connected to a dual band AirPort Extreme base station in my basement. My house is wired with Cat5 Ethernet cable. In a far bedroom, I am replacing an airport express-N (previous model) that was hard-wired to the Extreme. Always worked perfectly in extending and supplying 2.4ghz band wifi to that part of the house. I bought the brand-new AirPort Express to utilize the dual band bridge.
After many hours of trying, this new airport express will only work properly if I do not plug in the Ethernet cable. It seems to be performing well, but i was under the impression that an ethernet cable should be used to physically connect the AirPort devices each other.
Currently, in this wireless setup, I do have both bands available. I feel that if I used the cable, I would have much stronger better signal.
Interestingly, when I do ether-connect the airport devices together. My AirPort Utility looses all of my AirPort devices and shows (with a yellow dot) that my Internet (modem) is not available. At the same time, all of my AirPort devices continue to show a green light. I am unable to connect anything with any of my wireless devices.
Also, when everything seems to be working fine, my AirPort Utility does depict the wireless set up with a dashed line between the two AirPort devices representing that it is wireless connection.
With my last AirPort Express, a wireless set did extend the range, but only while slowing everything down. An ethernet cable, when introduced, made everything work perfectly, during which time the AirPort Utility depicted that setup with all solid line indicating wired connectivity.
I would appreciate any feedback from anyone who might be able to tell me why when I introducing ethernet to the new AirPort Express, it takes down the entire wireless network.
Hi, of course, try all of the normal troubleshooting suggestions. I recycled all devices I have rebooted everything.

It's always a good idea to do a complete power recycle when switching out network components ...
Try the following, in order, checking for Internet access after each step, until resolved:
    1. If the modem has a reset switch, use it to reset the modem. Wait at least 5-10 minutes for the modem to initialize.
    2. Remove power from the modem. If it has a backup battery, remove this as well. Wait 5-10 minutes. Replace the battery, and add power back to the modem.
    3. Perform a complete power recycle of your network components as follows:
    Modem/Router Power Recycling - Quick
o Power-off the modem, 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn), & computer(s); Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the modem; Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the AEBSn; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
If this fails to get the modem to "recognize" the Internet router, then try the "Full" version.
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling - Full
o Power-off the modem, AEBSn, & computer(s). (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
o Power-on the modem; Wait at least 15 minutes.
o Power-on the AEBSn; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
    4. Contact your ISP to have them perform a "modem reset."

  • New 80Gb iPod MP4 player with dead pixels!!!

I just bought the iPod few days ago. I did not realise the iPod that i bought has dead pixels until i watch a movie where the dead pixel is visible on black screen. It has around 10 dead pixels! Does apple cover warranty for dead pixels?

You can't fix it yourself unless you want to possibly destroy it and void your warranty. You will need to contact Apple support for your country/region or take it back to where it was purchased for an exchange.
    Good luck!

  • Brand New T410s Arrives Defective - I have to fix it myself - Don't pay the premium for Lenovo

Don't pay the premium for "Innovative and Professional Grade" Lenovo products.
I purchased a Lenovo T410s with an onsite warranty. It arrived and would not boot because of a bad hard drive. I called tech support and they had no record of an onsite warranty. I was put on hold and transfered to Customer Service. I provided my customer and order numbers but they could not find the onsite warranty either. I was required to fax my receipt to prove that I paid for the onsite warranty.
I was told I needed a second case number for the system software. Then I was told I would need to reload the machine myself. The system restore disks will take 3-5 days to arrive. So much for next day onsite support. Then it was recommended that I just fix everything myself because I could do the repair at my convenience.
I was very frustrated and regreted the purchase so I asked to return the laptop. The sales department's floor manager offered an RMA with a 15% restocking charge. I was told that it is company policy to require a re-stocking charge on defective products that technical support could fix. I asked multiple times for reconsideration and the floor manager said that was the final word. I asked to escalate my problem and the floor manager responded that I would not get a different answer because he was quoting company policy. I asked for confirmation that company policy was to penalize the customer if they want to return defective product and were dissatisfied with the support. He would not agree to that statement. He kept insisting that this problem was a minor inconvenience that tech support could fix, which meant shipping me the parts to fix myself. I said this was an unreasonable response to a customer that paid $1500 for an innovative, professional grade Lenovo product. The floor manager responded by quoting company policy again.
What the floor manager did not know was that I am the EVP for a Point of Sale company that resells Lenovo products. I will be moving those purchases to a new vendor with a commitment to a better customer experience. Lenovo better spend my $225 re-stocking fee wisely because they are losing my reseller revenue.
The rant of an abused Lenovo Customer and Reseller.
    Kevin Struthers

    Kevin,
I'm just guessing, but I think the warranty for your specific machine (via serial number) can be checked at this webpage:
    http://www.lenovo.com/support
in the warranty section.  I believe the warranty is activated at the manufacturing and starts when the product is shipped (that's pretty much industry standard).  Perhaps the manufacturing plant didn't activate the correct warranty and so it didn't show up correctly.
To the best of my understanding, if the hard drive turned out to be dead, they can do an on-site repair/ replacement if you do have on-site warranty.  I am not sure, but I don't know if the replacement of the drive includes the factory installed software on the drive.  (probably fine print somewhere says if it does or not).  If the machine is DOA, right out of the box, I don't see why they wouldn't just cross ship a replacement machine to you.  Did they give you this option?
I think I would call them back and ask for a customer satisfaction rep to step in.  And this time, tell them who you are.
    Hope that helps.
    Walter

  • Brand New 30g Video Ipod...dead right out of the box

So I take my new ipod out of the box and it wont turn on. I plug it up to the outlet charger and the screen lights up but says nothing and does nothing. It makes a little humming noise and gets very very hot also. Plugging it up to computer hasn't helped, it doesn't even light up with it. Anyone have any ideas?

    Welcome to Discussions!
Have you tried resetting the iPod by holding the Menu and Center buttons?
If that doesn't change anything, it sounds like you received a defective iPod.
You can 1) return it to the store or 2)fill out a service request here: http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod

  • Brand new battery issue....installed myself, still depleting power quickly

    Good morning everyone.
I have one of the original Ipod Classic 160's. Its been a wonderful item thus far. The battery started losing power a little bit quicker than normal. I probably would only get about 10 hours out of it. Not too bad, but that's on all low settings.
I figured I'd go ahead and take a crack at opening it myself and put in a new battery (side note: you have to be really gifted and have the right tools to not damage the body of the ipod slightly).
The new battery is in. It immediately read only half power, so I plugged it into my home player to charge it. It charged really really quickly. I started playing it, and it started losing a little power quickly as well. I charged it again over night, and on my 40 minute trip to work this morning, it lost a little bit of power.
Obviously, one of my options is that I got a bad battery, BUT...a bad battery is usually a more dynamic problem then just the little discharge its doing. Plus, its discharging almost exactly like my old battery did. So, although Its still a possibility its a bad battery, I've got a theory that maybe there is a hardware or software issue????
That's my main question: Are there hardware and/or software issues that could cause a battery to drain, no matter how good the battery is?
Any other thoughts are welcome too.

I apologize for bumping my own question here, but I figured it would be best to share my experience for others to read.
I am sending this as a buyer beware. If you have the Classic 160, your battery should be 850 mah at minimum. This place I bought replacements from advertised a 550 mah as for the Ipod classic 80/160...not true.
Just an FYI. I know this is a rare situation, but just in case there is that one person that runs in to this. My initial battery from Apple was definitely dying, and it just happened to be coincidence that the new batteries didn't have enough "juice" to run it properly, so I continued to think it was me. 3 batteries later, its sorted.

  • Please help - Brand new X1 Carbon defective out of the box - is this normal? what should I do next?

    Hello all,
So, as a loyal Lenovo customer I decided to purchase the X1 Carbon 2nd Gen (non-touch, I5 version).
Last week I finally received it.
Unfortunately, the first thing I noticed was a defective touchpad - very loose, the right bottom corner was not solid
enough and made a weird noise while clicking it. It drove me crazy since I am used to the top build quality the Thinkpad series offers.
I took to the local Lenovo service center, they actually replaced it on the spot and it made it better, not great but better. I still think there is something wrong there, since the bottom two "buttons" don't feet and sound as good as the upper ones.
    But that I can tolarate.
The thing that really pissed me off was this: To me demise, after using the laptop in a dark room I noticed this massive screen bleed :
(apologize for the ling stream of pics, didn't know how to thumbnail them)
My question to you guys, is this okay? is this an acceptable bleed? or should I do whatever it takes to get it repaired/replaced?
I just hope they will know how to handle this here at local center, as from my experience dealing with computer reps here, the local Lenovo agent (which is actually the importer)  will not replace it for me (their excuse is that it wasn't bought in this country)
This is amazing, in one year Lenovo has lost it's entire reputation over the 2nd Gen X1 carbon.
Please help me. what should I do?
    Thank you very much.

  • Brand new iphone4 was working now completely dead. It won't even turn on.

I just got a new iphone4 and it was working fine. Syncing it up was great. I was using it and it was working fine.
Then I went to use it  30 minutes later and nothing....
    I tried to reset it...nothing.
Even though I knew it was charged I plugged it in and nothing....it didn't even show it charging.
I plugged it into itunes and it did not automatically open itunes.
I held down the on/off button and opened itunes. It told me it needed to restore so I am restoring it but the screen on the phone is blank.
I'm assuming I have to just take it in but if anyone has any suggestions or this has happened to them. I would appreciate some advice.
    Thanks!

  • Brand new Wifi issue

Immediately after I updated to OS4 my iPhone (in the UK) WiFi connection was connected as normal... except nothing would work. E-mails would not download, Safari would not work, Twitter app etc. all displayed their standard no internet connection errors.
I switched the phone on and off, same problem. Wifi shows it is connected (with 3 bars) yet no actual connection seems to be working. I then slide wifi on and off in the options and it works perfectly, as normal.
I then turn the phone off and on again and the process restarts. Wifi will not work until I slide the option on and then off even though it is connected and shows full strength.
Anyone else having this problem? I'm reading various tweets from people who say they have no wifi connection after the update and a few who say that wifi is connected and showing yet the iphone is using 3G etc. to download data and not the wifi connection. I do not have any other data service activated as i'm on pay-as-you-go, so I wonder if my iPhone is trying to use 3G or EDGE etc. even though wifi is active and connected like some people have reported.

My WiFi is no longer working as well. It used to find tonnes of APs, now it can't even find the one it is 10 feet from. This is crap.

Bought a MacbookPro at the apple store in Santa Monica,CA as a gift for sister in law who lives inNepal. When we got to Nepal and she started the computer for the 1st time, the display was ghosting, everything that was gray or blue was red tint, & every highlight was red.Ranthe Hardware test & showed everythingis fine. Would like to exchange for a new machine, but it is so far and dont know when we coming back, any suggestions for repairs, what the problem may be?
    Appreciate the help.

It looks like a graphics issue. Download gfxCardStatus and try switching graphics mode once. You might get it to work in one of the modes until you can get it repaired or exchanged.

  • Just got imac back, two new dead pixels

I just got my iMac back from a repair (the hard drive crashed) and now there are 2 new dead pixels that weren't there before. I am totally bummed. I know they don't replace the display for a couple of bad pixels, but come on! They repaired one thing and broke another? I don't get it.

My brand new iMac shipped not with a dead pixel but with a spec of dust, underneath the glass... A spec of dust... (or maybe a defect in the glass itself). My iPhone only has tiny dust particles because it stays in my pocket. This was fresh out of the factory. If it was Steve W. building them in Steve J's mom's garage, it wouldn't seem careless. But since this came from a high quality factory, it seems careless. The tech-support guy laughed at me. I said "would it be that hard to lift off the glass, clean it, and put it back on?"
Apparently it's not in the "threshold". Apple's customer support has gone to s* since I first got a G3 iBook.
I'm being pretty picky, but when you have such a large, beautiful display, every defect stands out. At least I only notice it when it's against a solid color lighter than it (usually only white).
