Bridge- get photos from camera... no valid files found

I am using Photoshop CS3 on a laptop with Windows Vista and a Canon 30D camera.
When I go to Bridge > File > Get photos from camera > select Canon EOS 30D, I get the message 'No Valid Files Found'
What are the possible causes? There are raw files on the CF that have not been downloaded yet. This is my first attempt at downloading the photos through Bridge. I normally use the Can EOS Utility.
Thanks for the help.
Dale

edit: first answer deleted because this way of copying files was stated in your original post already, sorry.
If you are able to copy one way or an other the RAW files to a folder on your PC then point Bridge to this folder and that should be working, Try also to purge cache for that folder and renew Bridge preferences.
I use Mac and don't know the correct way to install ACR on a PC. Have you checked the plug in info in PSCS if your ACR version is shown in the list?

  • Bridge 'get photos from camera' stopped working and Bridge won't recognize my DNG files anymore

So, I've got Bridge set up to get pictures from mem.card whenever I insert one in my laptop (win. 8.1). A week ago I installed Sony's PlayMemories. Without asking me it hijacked Bridge's task of getting pictures from my cards. What's worse, I tried to fire the 'get photos from camera' function manually from Bridge. Bridge starts working, but nothing happens. I uninstalled PlayMemories and reset Bridge, also told my laptop to run Bridge whenever I insert a card. Still nothing happens and I still can't get the 'get photos' function to run manually from Bridge. Anyway, I can still rund the DNG converter to get my pictures, but today Bridge won't recognize my DNG files - worked fine yesterday. I downloaded CS6 from this link https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/cs6-product-downloads.html  and tried to run the installer, but it doesn't seem to do anything. Maybe I need to do a full uninstall off CS6 for it to do anything..?  Anyway, if any of you guys could help me with my Bridge/CS6 issues I'd be grateful.  I've got 3 sets of concert photos and a snowboard comp. shoot I need to finish this week

  • Get photos from camera option in Bridge CS5

I really would like to use the "Get photos from camera" option in Bridge CS5, as it would save me a few steps in my normal workflow (dowload images from my Canon 40D with EOS utility, convert to DNG, delete CR2 files, update metadata with copyright information), but when I try with with a large number of images, some RAW images are not downloaded and converted. All jpg images are downloaded. So I would get e.g. images 1.dng, 1.jpg, 2.dng, 2.jjp, 3.jpg - in othere words the 3.dng file would not download. Any help would be most sincerely appreciated.
BTW - when I use the Canon EOS Utility, all files get downloaded, but then these are all cr2 files.
I use Windows 7 64-bit as my OS.
    My thanks in advance.

On further testing, it appears that the download function works fine as long as the "Convert to dng" function is left unchecked. So the file loss occurs during the conversion process. I have looked but cannot find an answer - is there a way to batch convert downloaded cr2 files to dng from within Bridge? Or does one have to load up the DNG Converter separately?

  • Bridge CS4  Not enough room on destination disk, when Getting Photos from Camera

When trying to "Get Photos from Camera" after the 2nd or 3rd photo has been moved to folders I receive a box that states:
The backup destination folder is low on disk space, and could not obtain all files from the device. (which is a compact flash card) Please select a different folder or cleanup disk space and try again.
Please note there is plenty of space available on both drives that the photos are being saved to.

    what Ramón says,
I use Downloader on a daily base and don't have troubles with it. And yes it is not a very brilliant piece of software but it does work.
I would suggest that you go to the user library/ preferences and in here find the downloader plist file. drag this to the trash, restart photodownloader (now at factory settings, you need to reset it again to your wishes) and try again.
    btw
in an other thread Scott showed an other application for image ingestion. It looks very great but you need to pay a small fee for it :-)

  • DNG conversion fails sporadically with Get Photos From Camera

    Camera: Canon 40D and 5D
    XP SP2
    CS3
    Bridge 2.1.1.9
    ACR 4.4.1
    DNG Converter 4.3.1
Importing my files to Bridge using the Get Photos from Camera (GPFC) option results in sporadic DNG conversion failure. There's no pattern, just a lump of files that don't get converted at the end of the process. It's very frustrating because I have to manually go back and find the files that failed and use GPFC option again. Even then sometimes it fails again!
I'm attached to using the GPFC option instead of the standalone DNG converter because GPFC lets me automatically make a backup file to another disk and adds a template. But even when I use DNG Converter to import the files off my card, DNG fails for some of the files. Purging the cache only works half the time and for some of the files.
Is there any solution to the GPFC problem? I've seen people have similar problems, but with no real conclusions...
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

    Ramon,
No, I have tried purging/refreshing before and it doesn't help, because the un-converted CR2 files are just skipped over and put in the same destination folder as the successfully converted CR2 files (to DNG). I thought it might be a memory issue, but I never have any other applications open. As a test, I purposely opened some other applications to see if MORE CR2 files would be skipped, but the amount of files skipped was still random.
My "DNG Conversion Settings," accessed through the Get Photos From Camera dialogue, is set to:
    Jpeg Preview: Medium Size
    Compressed (Checked)
    Preserve Raw Image (Checked)
Embed Original Raw File (UN CHECKED)
Could some of my Edit>Preferences>Cache options be overloading things and causing skips? I use the default settings because I wasn't confident with messing around with the cache.
    Thanks

And to diversify the use of that port, you could get this specialized adapter:

The cost of admission is modest - at $79 - for what all that it does.

Try disabling Norton and syning.  If that doesn't help try uninstalling iTunes and all of its components by following this guide: Windows XP or Windows Vista/7, then reinstall iTunes.  You must follow this guide exactly or it will not be successful.  Note: uninstalling iTunes will only remove the application; it will not touch your iTunes library or data.
If you continue to have trouble you can use an app like PhotoSync to wirelessly transfer your photos to your computer while you continue to try to troubleshoot this.

  • "Operation not supported by backend" while getting photos from camera

    The situation is as follows:
I'm trying to copy photos from camera using a file manager (thunar in this case). The attempt fails with a message "Operation not supported by backend".
    Configuration:
    uname: Linux xxx 3.9.6-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri Jun 14 08:12:55 CEST 2013 x86_64 GNU/Linux
    libgphoto2 2.5.2-1
    gphoto2 2.5.2-1
    gvfs 1.16.3-1
    gvfs-gphoto2 1.16.3-1
    thunar 1.6.3-1
    mount info for this case:
    gvfsd-fuse on /run/user/1000/gvfs type fuse.gvfsd-fuse (rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime,user_id=1000,group_id=100)
    What is known:
Everything was fine on 2013/06/13 - I was performing successfull copying operation on the day.
The exactly same message started to appear on a different machine running Arch, with both unupdated Nautilus from 2.x line and latest pcmanfm. No other machines were tested.
Only copying and moving files/directories via file manager doesn't work. I can browse the camera and delete files and directories with no problems.
I can copy the files using cp (via gvfs mount).
I can grab the files using gphoto2 from command line.
Applications are able to open the files with no problems (via gvfs mount).
Downgrading gvfs, gvfs-gphoto2, gphoto2 and libgphoto2 to versions from before 2013/06/13 doesn't fix the issue.
    Logs are clear.
First I suspected that something is wrong with gvfs or libgphoto2, but I'm able to use them with no problems, as long as I don't try to copy a file via file manager. This could mean something is wrong with the file manager, but the issue suddenly affected three different file managers on two independent machines. And the logs remain silent. I have no idea how to deal with the issue.

mpan wrote:Usable workaround, not requiring additional tools, was posted in the first post: use cp on mounted partition or gphoto2. The problem is not how to retrieve the files, as this is obvious, but how to copy them using file manager or how to trace source of the problem.
Stupid me. Yes, you mentioned that. Sorry.

  • Get photos from camera: custom folder setting?

When I use Bridge to get photos from my camera, can I tell it to put them in specific folders according to the date the photo was taken? For instance, instead of telling Bridge to download photos with a filename mask like YYYY-MM-DD could I tell it to download to /Pictures/YYYY/MM/DD ?

You can't do so with Bridge, you might want to use scripting for this but
that is way out of my nowledge.
But to be honest, I don't see the benefit for this. I know that there are
near as many workflows as there are users but with the current filename
options you can use quit a bit of characters in a file name.
My normal name convention is using date, short subject and sequence number.
For you picture this would get the name: 20091103MyPhoto01.jpg
With this naming you will always have your files sorted regardless how many
there are in one folder. You can either use Bridge and\or Photodownloader to
use the sequence number (up to 9999) when having the same subject on same
    day)
And you don't have to dig that deep in the folder tree to reach the files
    you want when needed...
Thus if my photo was taken on 2009-11-03, I'd like to be able to tell Bridge
to put my photo in a folder like "Pictures/YYYY/MM/DD," which would result in
    this:

  • Getting Photos from camera

I am using Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.2 with Canon A700
Why are some files not displayed when getting photos from my camera? I know there are 113 files, but it says 73 selected. I did not select any, but each one displayed has a tick displayed against it. I would like to see all the files!
    Keith

    Hi,
    There are few possibilities
    1. If you have already downloaded few photos then those files are detected as duplicate and are hidden in Photo Downloader.
    2. By default, audio files are not shown in Photos Downloader. You can choose to view audio files from the toolbar in Photo Downloader.
    3. If there are few files formats which are not supported by SE (such as raw files) then those files won't be shown.
    4. if you have manually copied few files onto cameras then those might not be visible over PC Connection.
Have you tried taking out card from camera and using card reader to connect card to PC? How many files are shown?
Please let us know your observations.
    Thanks

  • "Get Photos" from camera function will not reopen

I love the new "get photos" function in Bridge CS3. However, I try to use the function to retrieve some photos and send to a folder, then wish to reopen it to send more photos to a different folder (photos from different events on card). The function will not reopen without first shutting down photoshop and bridge (and sometimes rebooting the computer). How do I get this function to work properly?

Don't know if I do it properly, but I use the autoload function of the USB port. So I send some pictures to a folder, and then to send other pictures to another folder I unplug card reader and replug and start over selecting files. Kind of retarded, but don't do it too often so get by.

  • "Get photos from camera" advanced dialog sort order

    Hello All,
I'm having a problem with the order of the photos in the advanced dialog when there are photos from more than one date. The import dialog orders the photos by decreasing date and increasing time. For example, a series of photos with the date/times (in order of being taken):
    10/20/11 11:30 PM
    10/20/11 11:31 PM
    10/20/11 11:34 PM
    10/21/11 01:03 AM
    10/21/11 01:04 AM
    will display as:
    10/21/11 01:03 AM
    10/21/11 01:04 AM
    10/20/11 11:30 PM
    10/20/11 11:31 PM
    10/20/11 11:34 PM
Now imagine say one or two thousand photos taken over three or four days and wanting to rename them. Right now I have to load the group associated with each day, and then keep adjusting the index number so that the naming scheme will make any sense. This was asked in the previous post: http://forums.adobe.com/message/2981895#2981895 and has not been answered. The photo order really makes no sense to me. Surely there is some way of fixing this?
    Many thanks in advance,
    Chris Jones

OK, here is the situation as I see it.
Took another round of pictures on day two.  Used the same method as outlined in post # 7.  The day 2 photos show up first and then day 1 photos.  This is in the same order as the pictures are shown on the card, with the newest pictures at the front.  So if using advanced rename it starts the rename at the first picture on the card and works down, in this case newest to oldest.
Now I took the same card and pictures and used the method I always use.  Short date + custom name.  In this case since you are not renaming the pictures, it uses the camera name and therefore the pictures are labeled from oldest to newest.  This is because the camera labels in an advancing sequence starting at the first picture.
So the easy way to avoid the problems you are addressing is to download the pictures to Bridge using the camera name, use the correct sort order, or manual sort to order pictures, and then do a batch rename.  As the batch rename starts at the first pictures and works its way to the last picture in sequence.
If you feel this is awkward for your workflow I would suggest you submit a feature request to have a sort order on the photo downloader for some future update.  If enought people submit the same request it may get done.
Let me know if this answers the question satisfactorily.
